Israel continues wave of West Bank housing demolitions in East Jerusalem

al-Khalayleh House Demolition, 12/6/11

Following the violent demolitions in Qalqiliya yesterday, and in Beit Hanina and Silwan Sunday, Israel continued its displacement of Palestinians throughout the West Bank today in occupied East Jerusalem.

On the day Israel announced a plan to forcibly remove 2,300 Palestinians from their homes, a demolition team arrived in al-Khalayleh, a small village in East Jerusalem.  Two homes, an animal barracks, and part of a hardware store were flattened within hours.  Palestinians watched as their homes were lost leaving 6 children and several adults homeless.  Armed military and police guarded the area as bulldozers destroyed the structures.

One woman was visibly crying during the demolition of the second home.  When asked if the home was hers, she answered “no, my uncle’s.”

The ethnic cleansing of non-Jews from Palestine began in 1948 during the creation of the State of Israel.  Sadly it continues today through housing demolitions, apartheid laws, and the refusal of Israel to observe the Palestinian right of return as guaranteed by UN Resolution 194 Article 11.

This is truly horrible. I feel for those people, this is nothing but a land grab.

That said, I don’t agree with everything mentioned in this short article. Namely, there isn’t really any Palestinian right of return guaranteed in UN Resolution 194. Additionally, these Beouins won’t be ethnically cleansed from Palestine, they’ll be moved. Now I am not defending what is happening here. Merely criticizing the journalism.

The RoR is protected and guaranteed in the UN Resolution actually. You just have Zionist blinders on.

Just like the Communists who looked past inconvenient facts b/c their cause went beyond things like human rights.

No, I’m quite sure that UNGA res 194 doesn’t guarantee RoR for Palestinians.

First of all, the resolutions more complex than the OP makes it seem. For example, it refers to all refugees when it says that they should be allowed to go home, including Jews as well. So while the author tries to make it seem as though Israel is ignoring a guaranteed right granted to the Palestinians, in reality there are several other related issues.

But that is very much besides the main point, which is that 194 is a General Assembly Resolution. Meaning it is just a suggestion. It doesn’t “guarantee” any rights to anyone. It can’t. It can’t demand, enforce or guarantee anything at all actually, much less return rights following a civil war and massive population exchange.

I can write a document saying that the Palestinians should get a right of return also. But just like Res 194, it doesn’t serve to guarantee anything.

Now what is it you were saying about inconvenient facts?

It appears that Israel is accelerating its destruction of Palestinian homes in the West Bank. One house at a time and maybe nobody in the west will notice. This sounds like those supporting the “transfer” option in the Israeli government are pushing their agenda. After all, where will these displaced Palestinians live? My read is that the current Israeli government is getting desperate.

Perhaps it is part of the plans for attack on Iran. Most sensible observers agree that such an attack will create a major international crisis. Is Israel setting up an international war that will cover up a big ethnic cleansing operation?

As long as the Palestinians remain inside Israel, their demands for justice will be heard.

The Israeli govt is not stupid. They know the end is near and sooner rather then later they will be forced to make a deal with the Palestinians. Consequently, they began accelerating home demolitions and evictions to create as much facts on the ground to ensure they retain the lands already settled in any future deal. Which of course will render the deal overwhelmingly in Israel’s favor

They WILL continue demolitions in East Jerusalem.
No amount of the UN paper-Resolutions will stop them from doing that.
Thats’ a big part of grandiose plan.

Palwatch?? Really? Would you proudly cite to a site called “Jewwatch” or worse?

“Its the PA who wants ethnic cleansing.”

Unlike the Israelis, who would never do anything like that, say, for example, like liquidating the Moroccan quarter… Oh, wait..

“PA TV honors Sbarro pizza shop terrorists”

And the ‘yahoo praised the King David Hotel terrorists.

LMAO. It’s like someone trying to make a point about how America is a “white” country by pointing to an article written by the Klan.

how exciting, 18 month old article on how Jerusalem is for the European Jews coming to reclaim their city. Even your dopey brethren, like Homphi, would find this article quite unsatisfactory.
      I esp like this:
Even body language, often said to tell volumes about a person, reflects the importance of Jerusalem to Jews as a people and, arguably, the lower priority the city holds for Muslims:
      • When Jews pray they face Jerusalem; in Jerusalem Israelis pray facing the Temple Mount.
      • When Muslims pray, they face Mecca; in Jerusalem Muslims pray with their backs to the city.

That was some laughable material for your colonial occupation. But I would consider taking your factoids about Jerusalem and selling it to the American Government and it’s congressional Sodomites. All you need to do is grease them some campaign cash and you’ve got yourself a stooge for hire.
