More in the disgraceful double-standards department. Oh and Israel lobby in the Washington Post department, too. A column in the Post by Ruth Marcus lamenting sexist practices in Israel warns that they pose a “national security issue” because American Jews won’t like it. This piece feels like it was written in 1970. The selfishness! Not a word about Palestinians or occupation. Excerpts:
Israel is and should be a Jewish state. Religious entanglements that would be unthinkable and unconstitutional in the United States — establishing the Sabbath as an official day of rest, requiring that kosher dietary laws be observed in state-owned establishments, maintaining a separate system of state-funded religious schools — have been in place since Israel’s creation…
As Israeli officials well understand, the treatment of women in Israeli society is not a matter of purely domestic concern — it is also a national security issue. American taxpayers, and American Jews in particular, will not tolerate Jerusalem as Riyadh-lite. A truly Jewish state must accommodate the full rainbow of its citizens, not simply take dictation from a black-hatted minority.

She says:

“Riyadh-lite” – So how do we describe Israel’s treatment of its non-Jewish citizens, the Palestinians? And the Palestinians it lords over in the occupied territories?
“full rainbow of its citizens” – Except Palestinians.
“black-hatted-minority” – And look, she ends on an antisemitic note! At least, antisemitic by the editorial standards of Zionist trolls like hophmi, DBG, and Mr. Who-is-and-who-isn’t-a-Jew, eee.
Oh, boy is this woman’s thinking blinkered.
One of the main problems with the so-called “Abrahamic religions” is the seeds within them that flower into treating women in a barbaric fashion. So she has to take the bad with the “good.” Want to have it as a “Jewish state,” Ruth, then prepare to be considered less than a full person, woman.
And if that bothers you, perhaps you need to rethink the whole “Jewish state” thing or, at the very least, consider how 1 out of 5 in de jure Israel and 1 out of 2 in defacto Israel views the issue.

Meh, I don’t ultimately care how American Jews sever from Israel, it just matters that they do. All of these changes, the drifts toward extremism in Israeli society, are an inevitable consequence of Zionism and the Occupation — which, frankly, are inseparable.
Look for eee or jon to come around and fight tooth and nail to defend the direction Israeli society is tilting toward.
