Prop her up and grab the smelling salts, ethnic cleansing and #hasbaraFAIL
Israel and US media are thumping the Ultra Orthodox flurry in Israel to hide the division of the West Bank, and it is happening right under our noses, right before our eyes, right now, and we are sleeping. I know this in my bones. Listen:
Sometimes I go all roundabout getting where I am supposed to go on these excruciating efforts of journalism, so I'm going to try to cut to the chase, please hear me out. I knew, like any news hound knows, something was gonna come down this week. I was 'holiday preoccupied' for much of the last weekend, which was why I woke up at 4 am on Monday morning and started scouring the blogs, MSM and Twitter.
Although I can't recall how I first stumbled upon the story of 8-year-old Naama (background-- open that link!) but as soon as I saw the source (LATimes, no slouch) and video I realized it was old news and thought to myself, WTF and why now? I knew it was a distraction.
How does some anonymous blogger calling herself Mother in Israel happen to add subtitles to a TV show that aired Friday night in Israel and have that video land in the LA Times by Monday morning? And then the news just happens to spread like wildfire by Tuesday? Connections, that's how. And maybe huge (pdf) intention.

I caught Joseph Dana's tweets (and hat-tipped him). "bait & switch tactic used by the ‘liberals’ of the society". The Haredi thing was the bait & switch. The big news is this:
Both the Americans and the Palestinians claim that building in E1 would in effect cut the West Bank into two sections and make it impossible to establish a Palestinian state with any kind of reasonable territorial contiguity.
The big tamale. (Allison hits this angle in her post today on 70,000 Jerusalemites denied residency in the blink of an eye). This is what Norm Finkelstein was talking about (1:41:00 watch it!) when he said you can't have a Palestinian state if you cut off East Jerusalem from the West Bank. Referencing the annexing of 'settlement blocs' (note the distinction between settlements and settlement blocs) and Ma'ale Adumim. He says once Israel sets its mind on annexing certain 'settlement blocs' there is no chance for a Palestinian State. He's very clear:
There is no East Jerusalem unless it's organically connected with the rest of the West Bank. And there is just no possibility of a Palestinian State with this settlement bloc. It's not a matter of being stubborn or unreasonable, it's simply ..an objective fact.....if you don't have East Jerusalem as an organic part of the Palestinian state there is NO economy. There is no state.
There's no way our State Department doesn't understand this. No way. (read Alex Kane!).
The Haredi thing? That was so happening last fall. There were several videos available from the fall and I posted a sampling below. Plus, remember the parking lot fiasco? Huge riots every week on the street and nada zilch finito in the MSM here. Remember the woman who starved her child and the baby was taken to the hospital by the state!?!..Huge riots in Israel, nada zilch nothing here...Remember the school issue when the state stepped in and made them (aghast) integrate (w/another segment of religious..not ARABS or anything that radical!) nada zilch in the msm here.
So, for our holiday diversion pleasure while the US is being inundated with smelling salts over Haredi violence is damaging Israel's image, Israel is ethnically cleansing and NOTHING is being spoken shhhh here.
Here's the old news hauled out this week: Sep 8, 2011 Sep 6, 2011 Sep 25, 2011
There's a lot more at those YouTube pages on the sidelines.
Did the US msm even care until the week between Christmas and New Year's? NO, not one itty bitty iota. Why do they care now? To distract you! WAKE UP!

Thank you, annie. I noticed this too but it’s from this Haaretz article, not the Rosenblit article you link to above. You got the quote right. The link is wrong.
link to haaretz.com
This article is why I like you. You’re a Jack Russell with a smarter head on your shoulders. And you look for patterns while everyone else is taking the vapors over issues that either don’t matter, or are not placed in the correct context with verification. (Case in point: Lizzy Ratner on Ron Paul today without a word about his denial, or verifying where those newsletters were originally sent out from. P.S. I am neither for, nor against, RP.)
thanks a million mrw. i’m sized like a terrier too.
i’ll check out lizzy’s article. i generally love her writing tho, a lot-a-lot.
you’ve got the link i thought i used. thanks for the heads up..i will check my draft.
annie, if Lizzy Ratner cared about racism and all the other issues she raised in her OMIGODRONPAULISHORRIBLE post, she would be directing her outrage skills at the Republican Jewish Coalition, and she would have been doing it over the last five years, as I have done intermittently. The Rabbi (whom I respect) at jewsonfirst.org had the balls to do it. Where the hell was she?
mrw, perhaps you are unaware of lizzy ratner’s activism. link to dailymotion.com
she is also co editor of the goldstone report
link to mondoweiss.net
i’m not going to be commenting anymore about lizzy on this thread other than to say i am in full embrace of her as a sister in this movement and even the thought of having to defend someone of her integrity and nature is just, unimaginable. so i’m not going to be arguing about it. but this perfectly demonstrates exactly what i said in one of the earlier ron paul threads, he has the potential to pit people against eachother, people who would normally be aligned. and i am not going to engage in that. i’m just not.
also, have you read an extremist by any other name? to answer your question about where she’s been..i think she’s been busy fighting the good fight right beside the rest of us.
annie, I didn’t expect you to reply. I am familiar with both this
link to dailymotion.com
and this
link to mondoweiss.net
(the book is a given: I bought it).
Neither of these links show moral courage, merely internecine war.
When a man (or woman) is accused of writing something and says, I didn’t write it, I am guilty of not paying attention (and ‘I apologize’, if true) then I expect–at the very least–for that eventuality to be addressed. Not ignored. Not turned into something the utterer claims repeatedly is untrue.
I am not a Ron Paul supporter. But I was railroaded in court once. Significantly. By the likes of the Ratners of the world who think that their quasi-moral outrage (eloquently stated, I might add) is sufficient to stand in lieu of the boring desultory truth.
Organizations like Hiddush have been working hard to make this story pop in U.S. for some time, because they (genuinely) oppose religious coercion in Israel. Lo and behold, Hiddush folks were at the Union of Reform Judaism’s ‘Biennial’ recently, connecting and strengthening their ability to reach US audiences with stories from the religious wars inside Israeli society.
Of course, I’m not privy to any FACTS from this or that media outlet to prove it, but it seems more likely that this story is popping now because folks who care about it have been pushing for some time and finally got their ducks in a row. All the events that didn’t get press in the past help make the case to certain editors that they should finally pay more attention.
folks who care about it have been pushing for some time
really. did you read this somewhere or is this dinner table gossip?
You think it’s some kind of secret?
link to hiddush.org
secret? why would you get that impression? obviously i don’t think it is a secret, i think it is old news. i don’t know what you mean by “make this story pop in U.S.”. it’s not like american jews do not have access to media here. anyone could have written an article or published an article like the guardian did last fall. i’m not understanding how linking to a haddish website is making your point. this ‘folks’ lingo is not improving your point. i’m not talking about ‘folks’ i am talking about a story thats been around for a long long time, completely ignored my the US msm. and now hundreds of newspapers are addressing it. what, it just happened to spread like a virus over christmas because soem ‘folks’ from haddish have been pushing?
do you have a permalink your are interested in sharing from haddish or are you just sending me for a look see on their home page.
either you have something online indicating this ‘push’ within the US msm or you don’t.
either you have something online indicating this ‘push’ within the US msm or you don’t.
I don’t, but let’s hope Bibi is correct about the MSM’s motivation:
Netanyahu convinced Israeli media plotting against him link to haaretz.com
“Netanyahu’s aides think that the recent massive media coverage of various manifestations of violence and discrimination against women are part of a plot to topple him.”
They say that every cloud has a silver lining;-)
A key point of the Naama Haredi conflict articles is being missed.
We are supposed to sympathize with racist American Jews, who relocate to Israel possibly to live in a home stolen from Palestinians, probably on land stolen from Palestinians, and definitely in a country stolen from Palestinians.
Little Naama and her crooked American Jewish family should return to the USA, where at least in theory they could not get away with robbing non-Jews.
Yeah, in the video the mother was speaking perfect American English. That was galling.
GalenSword,
The child is wholly innocent. But as for the parents, you are correct. They are thieving squatters no different than almost any other of the Jews occupying Palestine. They should be condemned absolutely for their participation in the ongoing Nakba.
LOL. Because, once again, as we all know, stories always catch fire as soon as they happen, and never when there’s a human face to put on the story. No, it’s all a BIG CONSPIRACY!!!!
the human faces were there last fall hophmi. the msm just decided to put a little girls face on it friday night during hanukkah. a coincidence no doubt. you’re into coincidences aren’t you?
“you’re into coincidences aren’t you?”
You’re into proof, aren’t you?
Yeah, it’s just a coincidence that hophmi is here, trying to distract MW readers from every issue discussed on MW that somehow seeped through the Iron Wall of America’s MSM hasbara pushing Israel as worthy of so much sacrifice by Americans.
citizen. i always know i’ve hit the mark when there’s a rush on denial from the u know who’s. the added feature of screaming mocking capital letters is like a cherry on top.
;)
sure i’m into proof hops, especially when it’s in the pudding.
“No, it’s all a BIG CONSPIRACY!!!!”
Nice to see you admit you never read history, hop. Thank you.
There’s a complete lack of awareness of how this fact-less conspiracy thinking makes them look. Of course, I see the same kind of nonsense on the far right lists I belong to – like the accusations that Obama is conspiring to destroy Israel, etc.
For years, the Israeli right wing touted the meme that the mass media are simply liars. They use the phrase ’tishkoret’ a play on the word for media ‘tikshoret’ to suggest that left wing self hating Jews are behind every story that casts the settlers or the occupation in a bad light. Ditto of course for nearly all the foreign press.
This kind of thing isn’t quite as far out there – but it’s well on the way. It suggests a community that is in such a defensive crouch, it can’t distinguish between real media criticism (what FAIR does) and mere unfounded suspicions.
Next up: why does the media always pay attention to puppies and kittens? Could it be the MSM conspiracy?
Well said, Newclench. I’m really sorry to see this conspiracy-mongering on MW. And glad to see that there are people who see through it.
I mean, what is the idea here? MW, do you really believe that Mossad micromanages the American media so meticulously that they stage-managed this story about haredi fascism to provide cover to an Israeli land grab? Because that is what you are saying to your correspondent you are love-bombing with admiration right now.
I’m against the occupation, heck, I’m anti-Zionist altogether. But this kind of conspiracy-mongering just makes us look like fools and I find it a huge embarrassment.
The sad fact is, the Israeli government doesn’t need to provide cover for its land grabs. The American media is so cowardly and the Israeli liberals are so silenced and marginalized that the story will sink by itself.
Way OT but thank you for the photo of éthérée Delphine Seyrig (born in Beirut Lebanon).
link to youtube.com I think this is the only film with wardrobe, coiffure & maquillage actually by Coco Chanel herself. A nice break from I/P horrors.
yes, she’s stunning isn’t she. i’m glad someone appreciates the choice, wasn’t sure i would get away with it but she seemed so … can’t find the word.
Well I thought éthérée captured her pretty well, searching too as I was. Anyway, this site could use a little more of that.
link to youtube.com
wiki: Delphine Seyrig used her celebrity status to promote women’s rights. The most important of the three films she directed was the 1977 Sois belle et tais-toi (Be Pretty and Shut up) that included actresses Shirley MacLaine, Maria Schneider, and Jane Fonda, speaking frankly about the level of sexism they had to deal with in film industry. In 1982 Seyrig was the key member of the group that established the Paris-based “Centre Audiovisuel Simone de Beauvoir”, which maintains a large archive of women’s filmed and recorded work and produces work by and about women. In 1989, Seyrig was given a festival tribute at Créteil International Women’s Film Festival, France.
munro, unfortunately i don’t speak french and cannot understand your latest video but appreciate the info. i didn’t know that about Delphine Seyrig..but i suppose i sensed it, the quality surrounding her presence.
for full disclosure about why i used it..sometimes being in the midst of these kinds of horrors inflicted on us daily following the ethnic cleansing of palestine… i fear my emotions, which i find almost impossible to divorce from my writing and for that reason cannot hold private, could be interpreted by the reader as overly dramatic. but it feels drenched in real drama for me. and she captures the epitome here in this shot. so, i was just trying to be honest with the reader. when i finished writing the piece late last night i chose her because at times, i am her.
I understand the emotions problem. It’s a tough one.
oh and éthérée needs two ees at the end. what I get for being a polyglot.
fixed dear, the two ees at the end. one of the benefits of access. shh.
thanks for understanding, only a few will if even that many. it’s so so real
and i have not ever said this before, and it might not make sense..but there is a reason i sometimes don’t end my sentences with a period. when it is an open-ended thought.
“… éthérée needs two ees at the end”
My 2 cents: “l’éthérée”
Annie… you’re in LA right? Are you going to see Omar Barghouti at USC tomorrow? link to usacbi.org
“Last Year in Marienbad” is one of my all time favorite films. One I’ve seen at least five times over decades and read in 2 different subtitles and at least once in the original French (which I kind of follow – luckily – little dialogue in the films). It’s not to everyone’s taste, that’s for sure, but it is to mine (perculiar taste that it is).
Thanks Annie for reminding me of some good old days, before mad zionistas messed up a perfectly dysfunctional, if ever stylish, vision of the human condition. I miss my existential period something awful. Nowadays wallowing in pure angst seems like such a luxury. Who would have thunk?
You are on to something in your diversion theory. Not that the Haredi problem is not real or will not tear israel apart (in due course, which is not quite yet). But timing is everything, and the heart-wrenching story of little Naama’s travails has its timing impeccably perched upon the top of the news.
i so adore you danaa. you gotta know that. vision of the human condition. yeah, she’s so my era on some psychological level. all i have to do is look at her ..it’s not just her face it is her whole demeanor. i’m reminded that women of that era used to go in for shock treatments and were not taken seriously..politically or otherwise when the ‘emotional’ over took them. but damn it is emotional isn’t it? isn’t it? she swept me off my feet. naturally i don’t mind choosing an exotic exquisite beauty to portray my mental state. ;) but WTF? we’re teetering on a final solution here and nobody’s listening.
yes, of course the ‘Haredi problem’ is real, and it’s been real for a long long long long long (shall i go on) time. but this is prime time..this is holiday time. this is prime real estate time in the propaganda elite world of the msm. never forget that. this is gaza massacre time, this is distraction time, this is the grand tamale of positioning time. when the beebs said ‘we know how to move the americans’ (paraphrasing) he wasn’t not talking about the msm and the prime real estate.
and they are gobbling it up as well as all their munchkins
gag me w/a f’ing spoon. these guys are pouring their security resources into apartheid and worrying their lil heads about their religious fanatics. here is what they won’t do, they won’t pull in the national guard like we did in wako texas and burn their asses down. they won’t treat them like palestinians. this is so faux concern. they have the manpower there to end this in a nano second like they do at the drop of a hat in gaza. no, they won’t do anything like that.
they will suckle this baby all thru the american msm til we’re worshiping the pity party for poor israel while they are annexing the west bank.
what a friggin game plan man oh man. we’re dealing with professionals, if this wasn’t set up by a think tank…nah, it was. this has professional written all over it. and it’s such old news.
The “Transfer” begins.
Not for no reason is the Israeli motto by Way of Deception.
If you have ever read this:
link to jerusalemsummit.org
You will understand that Israel, being unable so far to carry out their Big Plan in one swoop, is doing it in increments like this.
1) Get Palestines out of Israel.
2) Get Palestines out of Palestine.
3) End Palestine refugee classification and funding so as to force other countries to accept them as citizens or have them be non person stateless.
4) Pay Palestines (with US money) to leave Palestine.
All this is presented as a “Humantarian Solution” for what Israel calls people incapable of governing and not deserving of a state. Israel hasn’t been able to get US or international backing or financing for their master plan so they are taking round about steps to accomplish it. The advances Palestine has made in international recongization of their plight and rights makes it even more imperative for Israel to step up some smaller moves in purging Palestines from Israel and then from Palestine.
You really have to read their plan and final goal to understand what the banality of evil really means…how the zionist gild their evil just like Hitler did.
The vileness dressed up as a moral solution will make you sick to your stomach.
thank you for the link american. i will check it out now.
Here’s something else for you to apply your rat terrier talents to annie.
Some more objectives from the Jerusalem summit. The ones aimed at ending UNRAW are for the purpose of ‘dispersing’ the Palestine refugees.
For two reasons; they would no longer be considered “Palestine” refugees and they would be truly ‘dispersed” which would present no political threat to Israel. Second, this de-classification would undercut any “right of return” claims.

And if anyone doesn’t think these people don’t have influence with and direct the Israelis in the US congress they are mistaken. Here are just two examples of the bills they have tried to get thru congress to stop funding of Palestine refugees, done by the usual zionist in our congress…there are dozens more similar bills .

What really will jump out at anyone looking into US legislation on refugees in general is the complete hypocrisy in their actions toward Palestine refugees as compared to their actions on other refugee groups.
This is US zionist, Israel and it’s lobby at work in the US getting the US to literally “erase” people. Just plain erase them.
It’s like the bleeding heart liberal cowboy lasso to rope the oppressed animals and give them greener pastures just does not quite extend wide enough to encircle the Palestinians herd. It also seems to be not quite big enough for Ron Paul’s foreign policy. Same reason. If anything call into question the purity of the traditional Jewish (& American) concern for the underdog, it’s every Palestinians born. Principles and virtues are tested by inconvenience, to say the least. Sort of like the purpose of the American First Amendment.
It’s a doozy (quaint reference 2 Duesenberg classic refined auto), Annie! Thanks, American–you always live up to your pen name, and for that, I am thankful. Annie too.
Agreed. American, annie, MRW, Citizen and whoever else make a great team.
Jesus, American. Your linked material is sobering. The Jewish Solution changed into the Palestine Solution. And Jewish Americans go along with this?
Or do they?
If they do: shame on them. Just, shame.
jesus. i’ve never heard of ‘the jerusalem summit’ before. who are these guys? there’s no about page. this is unadulterated ethnic cleansing to the max.
This group has been around for a long time but they don’t publicize themselves.
You will find people like Eliot Engel, Richard Perle, Gary Bauer, Pipes, Sen. Brownback and a host of other US based zionist in this group…in everything from political office to academics to press, media, think tanks, JINSA military members and on and on.
You will recognize the names in their board, their presidium and their members.

In the participants at their summits are numbers of US media figures as well as US zionist who have been in and out of US administrations and offices.
(Example: Sam Brownback, U.S. Senator, R-KS )
Update: Brownback was replaced by former Rep. Jerry Moran R-KS in the Senate. Brownback is now our Governor here in Kansas.
The secular Israeli academic director of the Jerusalem Summit has his own blog; there he says that the Jerusalem Summit is a small think tank endeavoring to maximize its impact by focusing its efforts primarily on three major strategic avenues:
• Reframing the paradigm for the resolution of the Palestinian Issue in humanitarian rather than political terms.
• Formulating a Strategic Diplomatic Initiative to confront the advance of global Islamism, primarily by exposing and underscoring the heinous aspects of Gender and Creed Apartheid which characterize this radical theocratic doctrine.
• Cultivating awareness of fact that the Evangelical Christian community is both a strategic ally and a strategic asset for Israel. link to martinsherman.org
Here’s some more on the academic director of Jerusalem Summit, Martin Sherman:
I am on the board of several organizations such as the HESEG foundation (which provided comprehensive study grants of lone soldiers serving in the IDF) and the Washington-based EMET, Endowment for Middle East Truth.
Recently, the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA), working with Congressman Doug Lamborn (R-CO), invited me to address a Capitol Hill briefing reevaluating the Arab-Israel Peace Process. A ZOA news release was issued after the briefing. link to martinsherman.org
Mr Sherman belives (as he told the ZOA) that further pursuit of a Palestinian state is futile and detrimental to Israel and the solution is to garb bribing (with US dollars) the natives out of what’s left of their country under a mask of humanitarianism & make other countries like (especially) the Arab ones feel guilty, and with US dollars make it profitable for foreign countries to take the Palestinians, who will come loaded down with US gelt, and those good educated Palestinian skills : link to martinsherman.org
It is a sly move to at last gain all of Greater Israel in a veneer feel-good way at US expense.
End Palestine refugee classification and funding so as to force other countries to accept them as citizens or have them be non person stateless.
The State of Israel didn’t want the Palestinians to be considered refugees, like the displaced Jews of Europe, so they helped draft the definition used in Article 1 of the 1951 UN Refugee Convention accordingly. The UNRWA has never been funded from the UN general budget. It’s always been supported by voluntary donations, so how exactly, would this group go about ending its funding? In any event, the UNRWA uses the same methods to classify refugees as the as the one employed by the UN Office of the High Commissioner. All refugee communities, whether those under the care of UNRWA or UNHCR, have their refugee status passed through the generations while their plight remains unresolved. link to ynetnews.com
P.S. the remainder of the agenda would encounter an insurmountable legal problems. See for example the principles contained in the UN Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness 1961. link to untreaty.un.org
The State of Palestine recently became a full member State of a UN specialized agency, so deliberately turning its inhabitants into stateless persons is a complete non-starter.
Tell that to congress.
The US is a lawless Zionist Jewish State now.
I imagine the next bill/step will be to declare the Palestine refugee camps terrorist havens and bomb them.
Whose to stop us or Israel?
No one has stopped them or us yet.
thanks for bring this to my attention american. rust never sleeps, these guys just keep plugging away day and night. i’d heard of it before..this defunding and campaign to end the refugee status but not really focused before. it deserves it’s own post. so much atrocious stuff so little time.
and thanks to citizen and hostage too for the info.
“… It’s always been supported by voluntary donations, so how exactly, would this group go about ending its funding?”
Very easy. Last year, Canada’s very pro-Israel government simply decided to get off the UNRWA program because it deemed there was too much Hamas involvement in it and stopped contributing its regular $20 million share of UNRWA’s budget of about $1 billion and to send its cheque instead to what it considers the more trustworthy PA. So Canada in fact, “unrecognized” the refugee status of the Palestinians. Between the US covering 25% of UNRWA’s budget and the Europeans 35%, it’s relatively easy to stop the program altogether as the Arabs, (apart from pleges to special projects like the rebuilding of Nahr el-Bared camp) cover a small fraction of its regular budget.
In the early 1990s, Lebanon refused an American offer of $20 billion to naturalize most of its Palestinian refugees.
Very easy.
The UNRWA was created to outsource the costs of Israel’s deportations. The US with a population of 300+ million could barely handle a comparable number of people displaced by hurricane Katrina. There will be nothing stop, and everything to compel, the neighboring states to encourage the refugees to return to Israel and Palestine. We witnessed something like that on Nakba Day.
“The UNRWA was created to outsource the costs of Israel’s deportations.”
For part of it, the other part was covered by the Oslo scam.
There will be nothing stop, and everything to compel, the neighboring states to encourage the refugees to return to Israel and Palestine. We witnessed something like that on Nakba Day.
met with bullets
I was there, Annie.
Thanks for the info. I am speechless at the heartless, selfish bastards who are so underhand about this. Israel and its little US cadre never cease to amaze in the depths they continue to plumb.
