   That is funny. But the words ‘we determine reality while the rest of you can study what we do’ (more or less) were likely made by Carl Rove to R. Susskind in 2004. He was talking about Iraq. He was bragging how he and his team had molded reality to their way of thinking in Iraq. It might be one of the greatest displays of hubris during that entire period.

   If no one has noticed, the US has subsequently taken a very painful bight in the ass from reality. Last month the last US forces retreated, in the middle of the night, in failure from Iraq. Netanyahu is definitely creating a new reality in Israel, but it is not one that he will like when it rears its ugly head.

   Funny note.
   Reminds me of one of my cousins, a little brat, always the grabby, selfish one.
   One evening left at home when the adults were out to dinner and having been warned not to raid the kitchen for snacks before the cook called us to dinner, we snuck in the kitchen grabbed the cookie jar and ran to our room with it.
   The brat knocked us over snatching the top off so she could get the first cookies …..except the jar we grabbed was the wrong one and she got a handful of lard.
   I hope someone with foresight pissed in Netanyahu’s water glass.

   Last autumn the Quartet gave Israelis and Palestinians three months to present comprehensive proposals on security and border issues. That deadline expires on January 26.

   At last week’s meeting, the first between the sides since September 2010, the Palestinians presented Israel with their proposal on borders and security, which calls for a full Israeli return to the June 4, 1967, lines, except for a 1.9 percent land swap.

   Israel, in turn, gave the Palestinians a 21-point document outlining the general principles it believes will need to be dealt with to reach an agreement. Israel’s position is that its comprehensive proposal on security and borders will be produced at the end of three months of negotiation, not the beginning.

   also, they want everything quiet.

   The officials refused, however, to discuss anything substantive about the meetings, saying they would only succeed if conducted without information leaking to the media.

   In keeping with the glass container metaphor …. I believe it was Ariel Sharon advisor Dore Gold whose said Sharon’s plan was to keep the peace process and Palestinian statement preserved in formaldehyde. That’s where it remains, and the Quartet serves as the glass container. It sits quietly on the shelf. Likudniks point to it with admiration. It’s really past time to bust open the Quartet. I mean, what do Russia and the UN really care about Israel and Palestine. In fact, the UN is powerless because of the US veto, if it had any power at all. The EU leadership should grow a spine and begin acting like the heavyweight it is, rather than the palooka it has allowed itself to become.
