Noam Sheizaf reports on the absurdity of Jeffrey Goldberg and JJ Goldberg slagging the New York Times for running Sarah Schulman’s great Pinkwashing piece on Israel back in November– when Haaretz picked the piece up this weekend in Hebrew! Sheizaf notes that the pinkwashing piece, which said that Israel is using its general freedom on gay rights to try and mask human-rights abuses, was also the last straw claimed by Netanyahu in declaring to the Times that he would never darken its sheet again! (Apologies to Groucho Marx on that one). Once again, Israelis and Palestinians are able to argue issues the U.S. can’t stomach.

Or more to the point, Jeffrey Goldberg and JJ Goldberg hold a line here that they don’t worry about when Israeli media cross. And why? Because actually they don’t believe that Americans would stick by Israel if there were an open debate on the matter…

Meanwhile Tel Aviv has been named the best gay city for 2011. Oh, the outrage indeed. Not fair, Ramallah was robbed. After all the Palestinian are far more tolerant towards gays than Israel is.

Simple hatred nothing more, nothing less and such a superficial argument I might add. Sheizaf and the rest of the haters look at Israel through a single lens: one that shows Israel to be a purely evil entity, everything Israel does is somehow connected to its inherently evil nature. If Israel exhibits any whiff of liberalism, or kindness – it is nothing more than a smokescreen to cover for its genocidal, racist ways. Sheizaf and his ilk are plain sick, they believe it is literally impossible for Israel or Israelis to do anything admirable outside the context of the conflict. As I mentioned already this is pure hate and the irony is, It is the exact opposite of the liberalism these haters profess.

Israel has every right to promote Tel-Aviv to gay people like every other city that chooses to do the same, your assumption that Israelis manipulated the poll only proves what I wrote above to Shmuel was correct.
If there is something I enjoy, it is knowing that Gay people in Israel are free people period. Can you say the same about Gay people in the west bank or Gaza? Thought not.
