Romney’s battle in FL was to show Adelson he is OK on Israel –TNR

Your Israel lobby at work. Noam Scheiber reports at the New Republic that Romney’s big goal in Florida was to convince Sheldon Adelson to drop Newt (whom he and his wife have given $10 million) and come over to his side. So Sheldon Adelson is the prize. I remind you that Adelson has said all he cares about is being a good citizen of Israel, he regrets wearing the American uniform, and he wants the U.S. to attack Iran because of his fears for Israel.

When are the liberal media going to report openly on the Israel lobby’s workings in our politics? TNR:

Which is why, as he pulled away from Gingrich in the polls these last few days, Romney’s mission became less about winning Florida than impressing Adelson. Actually, the mission was twofold. First, Romney needed to win by a big enough margin that no one, not even the staunchest Newt dead-ender, could keep alive fantasies of a Gingrich presidency. Second, he needed to persuade Adelson that he was “alright,” as the Vegas wise guys would say, when it came to Israel. Romney needed to make a play for Adelson’s head and his heart, in other words, either one of which could have moved the mogul to cut another check.

We won’t know for several days whether Romney succeeded. But my hunch is that he did. If the results hold, Romney will have outpolled the combined Santorum-Gingrich total, albeit narrowly (46-45). That plainly undercuts the argument that a single conservative candidate could overtake Romney by consolidating the party’s right-wing. As for Israel, it’s hard to believe Romney didn’t have one eye on Vegas when he said things like, “This president went before the United Nations and castigated Israel for building settlements, he said nothing about thousands of rockets being rained in on Israel from the Gaza Strip,” as he did in Thursday night’s debate. (The other eye would have been on Florida’s Jewish population, of course.)

But the biggest indicator of Romney’s success at sidelining Adelson may have been Gingrich himself.

romney has to prove his israel firstness to america’s (better, the world’s) most prominent & powerful israel firster? will mr. adelson certify him as a loyal and trustworthy israel firster, and then will progressives (of other than the pep brand) hound him for putting israel first? same goes, of course, for president obama. if he stays the course towards an iran war, shouldn’t he too be called for what this represents, israel firstness to the max?

That plainly undercuts the argument that a single conservative candidate could overtake Romney by consolidating the party’s right-wing.

Ron Paul vote doesn’t count as party of the party’s right wing?

By the way, David Frum was really trying to discredit Ron Paul during the first hour of the Diane Rehm Show this morning. He argued, because of the newsletters, Ron Paul is either (1) a racist or (2) an unprincipled opportunist out to create a business for his whole family.

“This president went before the United Nations and castigated Israel for building settlements, he said nothing about thousands of rockets being rained in on Israel from the Gaza Strip,”

…said Romney. Blah, blah, blah. I’m no fan of Obama, but if he had said something about the firecrackers from Gaza, the Israel Firsters would be up in arms about how he made a “moral equivalence” between two. And the Nakba rolls on.

Paul Jay interviews Max Blumenthal (01-Feb-2012):

About the election and: Sheldon Adelson (R) and Haim Saban (D) – (Both Zionists) and their support for each their party.

Did they flip a coin to decide who has to support whom?

“What does it mean when you feel like a friend is possibly playing both sides of the fence and you don’t think they’re being loyal to you?”

-It means what you think it means.

-Confront them honestly with your concerns or cross them off of your friend list and move on.

Zionist strategy in the US is not ‘divide and conquer’ it is ‘unite and rule’

A casino boss no doubt has a whole lot of experience in gaging whose soul can be bought. Let’s just say that a man who has proven himself to be repeatedly morally and ethically challenged is a sure bet while the other is riskier.

I agree that Romney is courting Adelson’s bank account, but Adelson expects a lot in return, not just the typical hasbara, but something along the lines of: invented people and bombing Iran.

Can someone with a lot of money to invest in the future of America FIRST put this up on billboards across the country: “…Adelson [a Zionist operator] has said all he cares about is being a good citizen of Israel, he regrets wearing the American uniform, and he wants the U.S. to attack Iran because of his fears for Israel. ”

Americans need to know what these Israeli firsters are up to. It will change the political landscape real fast.

When are people going to get it? Ron Paul represents freedom from Zionist occupation and Israel First.
