Israeli president: ‘we shall stop’ Syrian refugees at border

The “ever sanctimonious”* Israeli president Shimon Peres was interviewed by CNN:

CNN: What will happen if Syrian refugees try to cross the Israeli border? Will you help them?

PERES: No.

CNN: Will you stop them by force?

PERES: First of all, until now, none of them asked to come in.

If they will come in by force, we shall stop them by force. If they will come in without force, we shall stop them with the way any country defended her border, with civilian means.

I mean, if it will not be refugees, but a military invasion, we shall stop it.

CNN: Well, we’re not talking about a military invasion. We’re talking about Syrians who are trying to escape bloodshed in their own country.

PERES: If they want to escape, they have to first appeal, ask for permission. None of them did it. I don’t anticipate that any of them will do it.

*Wait, who called Shimon Peres “ever sanctimonious”? Sasha Polakow-Suransky, in his wonderful book The Unspoken Alliance, in which he describes Peres’s support for apartheid in South Africa even while publicly condemning it.

Polakow-Suransky now works at the Times Op-Ed page. Will his view of the Israeli president be reflected in the pages of the New York Times?

Will the Syrian refugees go back to their land..the Golan Heights? Will Israel use white phosphorus to stop them. You know like the chemical weapons Israel used on the Palestinians

Those nasty Syrians have over a million Iraqis refugees living in Syria, sunni and shia, while the kindly Peres will not allow any refugees into Israel, probably because although not cancerous like the Africans, they have terrorist sounding names.

And why did the British turn away Jewish refugees from Palestine in the 1940s?

First of all, until now, none of them asked to come in.

“we shall stop them with the way any country defended her border”
Please don’t insult half of the world’s population. It, people, it. Israel is an “it.”
