On September 24, members of Jewish Voice for Peace and interfaith allies gathered inside Sheldon Adelson’s Venetian casino in Vegas to hold a Tashlich ceremony. The group sent a prayer for reconciliation and healing in the Middle East and also for a return to a fair and democratic political system (government for the people, not the profits) in the US in the face of excessive campaign spending and super-PACs.

This was a community ritual of casting off as we reflected upon the year gone by and dedicated ourselves to the new one before us. We symbolically cast off transgressions of occupation, of Islamaphobia, and of anti-Jewish oppression as we prepared ourselves for the coming year in which we take them up again, in a renewed commitment to pursue justice.

For the record, both parties (democrat and republican) support the colonization of Palestine by Israel, it’s hardly a Romney/Adelson thing
