Video: ‘Tearing Palestine down– Veolia!’

Veolia built the light rail system that connects East Jerusalem colonies to West Jerusalem. Here’s a great boycott anthem (set to the Kinks tune Victoria) from Dave Lippmann:

I wonder if it would help if I started ending all my comments with Israelo delenda est? You know, I think it would. It lends them a certain watchamacallit, or “cachet”. It has sparkle, snap, and is just like Mother makes. Anyway, it couldn’t hurt.

The video also showed the Veolia garbage trucks that are used to haul untreated settlement garbage to be dumped on Palestinian villages on the WB.

Veolia pulled a fast one last year for the benefit of the Saudis that were feeling the BDS heat. It sold its shares in the company building the Jerusalem Light Rail to Israel’s Egged Bus Company to show that it no longer has any interest in the building of the apartheid rail line, and then turned around and signed a management contract with Egged to complete the line and manage it. So on paper, Veolia no longer had the 5% ownership in the line and was no longer building it.

    instead of “…… delenda est”,

i prefer another ceterum censeo: …..occupationem esse finiendam!

This year, Veolia pulled another of its ownership transfer stunts, EI talked about it:

“The French corporation Veolia says it has sold the Tovlan garbage dump in the Jordan Valley to the nearby Israeli settlement of Masua. But the company is still involved in the dump as a supervisor and consultant. On its official website, Veolia Australia gives some details of the sale in a comment to the blog Illegal Dumping of Waste:

Veolia / TMM (a local subsidiary of Veolia Environmental Services) sold to Masua Village its entire rights in the Tovlan landfill on June 26, 2011. As a consequence, we are no longer the registered owner of the site. In order to comply with applicable laws as well as the sale agreement, TMM will act as an active supervisor and consultant for a transitory period to ensure the fulfillment of environmental protection standards and applicable law. These services will be provided until Masuaa is capable of independently undertaking all such obligations in full itself. At the end of this transitory period, TMM will be released from any obligations regarding the landfill operation and will no longer have any control whatsoever over the operation of the site.

The Tovlan landfill serves mainly the needs of the Israeli population in Israel and in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank. Moreover, three Veolia subsidiaries in Israel hold permits to transfer waste from Israel to the Tovlan landfill – including TMM – according to the occupation watchdog, Who Profits.

International law prohibits Israel from using occupied land for the sole benefit of its own civilian population. In Resolution 63/201 of 28 January 2009, the UN General Assembly called on Israel to cease the dumping of all kinds of waste materials on occupied Palestinian land.”

  6. MRW says:

Veolia owns the following municipal water systems in the USA: (Source: Blue Gold: World Water Wars, available for free via google search)

Veolia was called Vivendi (privatized Paris water since the time of Napoleon-Rothschild owned-returned to public hands in 2009 for first time in over 200 years)

Veolia has privatized the municipal water supply of the following US cities.
    Atlanta GA
    Chicago IL
    New Orleans LA
    Grand Canyon AZ
    Tampa FL

That means it can rob the water table to sell water in bottles on the open market, in addition to charging more than the municipality would for public supply and with no controls for safety, as Atlanta found out.

P.S. NYC’s water supply is now privatized. It’s owned by the transnational co. Suez.

  7. Further to MRW’s USA List, it should be noted that in the UK, Veolia is quite literally a household name.

Millions of people have their garbage collected by the company, which has contracts with lots of local governments. Some of the representatives who sit on the committees overseeing these contracts are quite sympathetic to Palestinian rights. If enough Britons wrote to their local authorities complaining about Veolia’s record in Palestine, it might seriously threaten some of their UK contracts.
