Anne-Marie Slaughter doesn’t know what hasbara is

Some fun commentary on Chris Hayes’s MSNBC show of yesterday:

@TheDersh:

I guess @upwithchris couldn’t get @SlaughterAM for tomorrow’s show, so they went w/ @natsecHeather [Hurlbut] who is just as beholden to hasbara. #yay

Anne-Marie Slaughter, ‏@SlaughterAM:

@TheDersh I don’t even know what hasbara is!

Slaughter used to work for the State Department. Hasbara is Hebrew for explanation. We use the word a lot here, as do Israelis, as a synonym for Israeli propaganda. Thanks to Max Blumenthal.

Saw and listened to Hurlbert at the Univ of Colorado conference on international affairs. She tows the line for Israel and the I lobby. To think she was on the Clinton non negotiating team. On Hayes program when asked about the direction of things she totally steered clear of one of the most core issues ..the illegal settlements in the West Bank and illegal housing in E Jerusalem. She seems to be part of the let’s see how long Israel and the I lobby can drag out finding a real solution team.

Just for the record, especially for those who rely on disinformation provided by the NY Times, NPR, CNN, etc., 100% of East Jerusalem is occupied by Israel. It is redundant to say “illegal occupation”, when “occupation” all by itself is illegal.

Important to use “illegal” when it comes to Israel’s occupation whether it is “redundant” or not.

She probably doesn’t know what it is, I doubt the hasbara description has ever surfaced on the other planet of the DC wonk world.

In defense of AMS, Google search is not of much help:

hasbara: About 682,000 results (0.47 seconds)

hasbarah: About 317,000 results (0.32 seconds)

hasbarat: About 9,730 results (0.25 seconds), top hit

Israel’s propagandists shoot themselves in the foot as they shoot off …
link to gregfelton.com 30, 2009 – That’s right: I’m talking about “hasbarats,” zionist trolls who infect the Internet … If you’ve come across a hasbarat, on-line or otherwise, you have …

    ——-

Alternative explanation: AMS thinks that it is a vulgar word.

Ann Marie-Slaughter is a liberal humanitarian in the bad sort of way. Chris Hayes had her on weeks ago, when they were discussing the sanctions on Iran and one of the other guests said that the civilian suffering caused was our fault. Ann Marie-Slaughter was shocked that someone would think that. Her expression was priceless–I wish I had a link, but I’m not going to search for it. She wasn’t faking–she really does live in that universe, where people like her are automatically presumed to be good and can therefore advocate or impose policies that cause suffering to innocent people and it’s not her fault. It’s the fault of the bad people who won’t do what she wants them to do. Terrorists think the same way, or so I gather.

And Anne Marie Slaughter is a major game player. In the last few years she made a comment about just starting to realize that much of the anger towards the US is partially a result of US support for Israel no matter what they do. She tried to act like she just became aware of this. Such hooey

She is also an obsessive liar about Iran. She has repeated unsubstantiated claims about Iran on numerous MSM outlets. Most recent time was when she was a guest on Up with Chris Hayes

When the Mears/Walt article, or maybe the book, came out, AMS moderated a debate at Town Hall in NY, featuring Tony Judt and Rashid Khalidi in the affirmative, and Dennis Ross and Martin Indyk in the negative. Stage a debate on the Lobby and its two biggest creatures show up to profess themselves shocked, shocked that anyone would speak of such a thing. AMS spent 10 minutes flagellating the issue over anti-Semitism, against which Tony Judt spoke, before letting the discussion proceed on its merits. AMS acted like a courtier pledging the king, or a priest crossing himself, before hearing treason or blasphemy.

Anne-Marie Slaughter is just like Molière’s Bourgeois Gentilhomme, who is surprised to learn he’s been speaking prose all his life.

You say that hasbara is Hebrew for what is she doing for living?

In any case, she does look nicer than Pamela Geller. I would need to ask ladies here if Kristol is good looking, some slugs definitely look better, but these are pretty nice slugs. On a slug slime actually looks good. In any case, AMS has this thoughful well-meaning look like Elisabeth Warren.

Yesterday I noticed this cute character in Times of Israel: Rachel Sabath Beit-Halachmi. She wrote a lengthy op-ed how life is a central value in Judaism in general and IDF in particular, how important its and so on and so on and toward the end she comes up with a very bright idea: perhaps it would be even better, even more perfect if IDF would be killing fewer children and women etc. Something that Bar Refaeli expressed in a brief tweet. She is a rabbi-hasbaratt (a Senior Fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute) but otherwise quite sweet looking woman. I once classified hasbara as forte and piano, this is pianissimo.

That’s OK, she highly likely doesn’t know who the Palestinians are, either.

“That’s OK, she highly likely doesn’t know who the Palestinians are, either.”

I’ve been chortling about that line since it appeared. It’s great. It reminds me somehow, of a the anti- Zionist Dozens.

It was more important for her to write that she doesn’t know what it means than to simply look it up, if she really didn’t allready know? How innocent. LOL.
