Slaughter used to work for the State Department. Hasbara is Hebrew for explanation. We use the word a lot here, as do Israelis, as a synonym for Israeli propaganda. Thanks to Max Blumenthal.
Saw and listened to Hurlbert at the Univ of Colorado conference on international affairs. She tows the line for Israel and the I lobby. To think she was on the Clinton non negotiating team. On Hayes program when asked about the direction of things she totally steered clear of one of the most core issues ..the illegal settlements in the West Bank and illegal housing in E Jerusalem. She seems to be part of the let’s see how long Israel and the I lobby can drag out finding a real solution team.
She probably doesn’t know what it is, I doubt the hasbara description has ever surfaced on the other planet of the DC wonk world.

Alternative explanation: AMS thinks that it is a vulgar word.
Ann Marie-Slaughter is a liberal humanitarian in the bad sort of way. Chris Hayes had her on weeks ago, when they were discussing the sanctions on Iran and one of the other guests said that the civilian suffering caused was our fault. Ann Marie-Slaughter was shocked that someone would think that. Her expression was priceless–I wish I had a link, but I’m not going to search for it. She wasn’t faking–she really does live in that universe, where people like her are automatically presumed to be good and can therefore advocate or impose policies that cause suffering to innocent people and it’s not her fault. It’s the fault of the bad people who won’t do what she wants them to do. Terrorists think the same way, or so I gather.
And Anne Marie Slaughter is a major game player. In the last few years she made a comment about just starting to realize that much of the anger towards the US is partially a result of US support for Israel no matter what they do. She tried to act like she just became aware of this. Such hooey
She is also an obsessive liar about Iran. She has repeated unsubstantiated claims about Iran on numerous MSM outlets. Most recent time was when she was a guest on Up with Chris Hayes
