Rightwing Israeli group accuses human-rights orgs of ‘emasculation’ of soldiers

Im Tirzu image
Im Tirzu image

This image was posted by the rightwing extremist group Im Tirzu on its Facebook page. Why is the European Union in the window scolding the valiant Israeli soldier? Why are his hands bound– in the face of Palestinian resistance? And by whom?

Ofer Neiman says the Hebrew caption reads, “Down with the Emasculation!” On the handcuffs: the names of human rights groups B’Tselem and Yesh Din and the American pro-democracy group, the New Israel Fund.

Neiman says that the image is aimed at human rights organizations that have provided cameras to Palestinian activists to document Israeli responses to demonstrations, incurring global disapproval. (I am aware that B’Tselem has provided cameras, I don’t know whether the other two orgs have.)

Neiman points to a related story at Electronic Intifada:

One soldier admits that the presence of cameras – presumably in the hands of Palestinian and other videographers – inhibits the soldiers from being even more abusive:

‘T. says the cameras on the ground undermine the forces’ efforts. “A commander or an officer sees a camera and becomes a diplomat, calculating every rubber bullet, every step. It’s intolerable, we’re left utterly exposed. The cameras are our kryptonite.”’

Occasionally crimes by Israeli occupation soldiers and settlers are caught on video.

And AIPAC is on the side of Im Tirtzu. As is the ADL.

Jewish land trumps Jewish values and universal human rights every single time

    What a disgusting fetish.

  2. amigo says:

The IDF and their morally emasculated supporters think they are “The untouchables” no matter what the crime.

Truly astounding, but that is Zionism.

Hardly fits the term “Light unto the Nations”.

Israel is sterilising Ethiopian Jewish women. It is far darker than just im tirtzu.
Jews wouldn’t do that part 567

The revelation that Israel is sterilizing Ethiopian women adds to a shameful history of abuse of powerless women and communities.

Its bad enough without exaggerating. But its not sterilization. It’s long acting reversible hormonal contraceptive birth control . Forced, uninformed, long acting birth control. Feh!!

As always I try to imagine the outcry if the shoe were on the other foot. How would bots like Syd or theADLrespond if New York City decided to inject Hasidic white Jewish women with birth control against their will.
Or is it different for brown people? The Rassenschande of brown babies in Yishai’s white man’s Kosher* Shangri la

      • Cliff says:

wow reversible hormonal contraceptive birth control!

yea, that’s like a whole different category of bad

lets not compare this to Nazi sterilization guys

        keyword is Nazi, not sterilization

because if it’s Nazified, then it’s special

if it’s Israel or Zionist or other related terms ‘doing’ the ‘bad’ thing, then it’s just a ‘bad’ thing or otherwise BLAND flavor of evil

nothing ever rises to the exotic uniqueness of ‘Nazified’

      • Shegetz says:

If someone forces me to take, unknowingly or not, a long acting contraceptive that prevents me from having children how is this not sterilization for all practical purposes?

As long as these people are in the power of the Israeli authorities, they will never procreate. Ever.

        Is this an exaggeration?

One wonders who else is getting shots and for what.

Does this mean Israel is anti-semitic, since it is preventing Jewish women from reproducing?

The reaction in Israel to viral videos showing IDF “weakness” shows Israelis only care about what they look like in the West Bank, and not why they’re there to begin with. But of all the reactions, Israel’s Foreign Minister had the last laugh once again.

It’s been a bad week for us occupiers. Caught by the natives with our pants down. Twice!

watch the videos and note israeli society reaction. this was what inspired lieberman to say “It is unacceptable that Palestinian police slap and punch IDF soldiers and stay alive.”

    Interior Minister Eli Yishai said:

“In my opinion IDF soldiers should make maximal use of all weapons at their disposal if there is a threat to their lives, and they need to know they will have full support and understanding from all authorities if they have to do that.”

so there should be no surprise a teenage soldier killed someone yesterday.

    • dimadok says:

Teenage soldier, as the Marines or any other 18 year-old conscripts? Sometimes I just watch in awe your ability to distort the facts, to get another slur at Israel direction.

      • i’m really not understanding how that is any kind of distortion dim,and if anything it works in the girls favor. i don’t think it’s an altogether negative thing to imagine many of these soldiers as kids. when i met some outside bethlehem as we were skirting the wall, they really seemed young.

plus, did you even watch those videos? my comment was about societal pressure. she was a young girl. if you want to divorce the kind of propaganda this post is about ‘emasculated soldiers’ (compared to emasculated palestinians!), the occupier as as being in handcuffs? it’s very easy to imagine a young mind being more influenced by this kind of rhetoric that dehumanizes ‘the other’, than a mature adult. (read liberman’s statement again!)

      • as the Marines or any other 18 year-old conscripts

no, definitely not as any other 18 year old soldier. israeli are brought up taught they are the masters of the land, and those they will be task with supervising are their neighbors whose land they are taking.

that is definitely not like ‘a marine’. there’s a chasm of difference psychologically. a chasm. which is not to whitewash the war crimes of fallujah or anywhere else, but it’s not the same. definitely not.

      • Woody Tanaka says:

What is awe inspiring dimmy, is you attempt at casting aspersions at Annie, out of whole cloth. Yes, all around the world, governments wrangle stupid teenagers to be their gunmen, because they know they’re stupid and scared and can easily be manipulated by idiotic propaganda, like the nonsense you people vomit forth. A few years later, they gain wisdom and courage and more apt to question the stupidity than are teens.

      • eljay says:

        >> Sometimes I just watch in awe your ability to distort the facts …

When it comes to distortion of facts, nothing approaches the Zio-supremacist’s ability to justify and defend as moral, just and noble the oppressive, colonialist, expansionist and supremacist “Jewish State” – born of terrorism and ethnic cleansing – and its 60+ years, ON-GOING and offensive (i.e., not defensive) campaign of aggression, oppression, theft, colonization, destruction and murder.

      • seafoid says:

It is so easy to slur Israel. dim. You just have to link to the article. No need to comment or anything.

It must look great in Hebrew, I imagine. But “if you slap the IDF you deserve to die” translates very poorly into modern languages linked to functioning justice systems that are not Bible based.

        • dimadok says:

You slap any soldier in the world you’ll be dead at instant-why Israel would be different then? And staying on the subject, Israel is different, since the amount of people dead vs. the amount of attacks on soldiers, police officers and security forces, is quite low.

        • Woody Tanaka says:

“You slap any soldier in the world you’ll be dead at instant”

Nope. No professional soldier would react that way. Of course, the barbarians you stuff into israeli uniforms react differently.

        • eljay says:

          >> … Israel is different, since the amount of people dead vs. the amount of attacks on soldiers, police officers and security forces, is quite low.

Just imagine how much lower the amount of dead people – and the amount of attacks on soldiers, police officers and security forces – would be if Israel, at a minimum:
          - immediately and completely halted its occupation;
          - withdrew to within its self-declared borders; and
          - entered into sincere negotiations for a just and mutually-beneficial peace.

As always, Zio-supremacists are content with digging for the bottom:
“Israel: We may not be as good as the best but, hey, at least we’re not as bad as the worst!”(c)

        • Mooser says:

“You slap any soldier in the world you’ll be dead at instant”

Absurd! Many of the soldiers who have accrued domestic violence charges have averred that their vis-a-vis slapped them, precipitating the cross gender fisticuffs, and most of those women are still alive!

        • sardelapasti says:

“You slap any soldier in the world …”

And the reaction will depend on the S.O.P. of that army (for instance, with mass murderers like the US forces you may expect exaggerated murderous reactions while a civilized soldier, say a Swiss, may not even slap you back.) In the case of the Zionist entity, it’s not “any soldier in the world” because his/her very existence, and whatever it is supposed to protect, is still illegal.

Besides, there was no slap. It was deliberate murder, execution-style, as we have now come to expect from the Zionist entity pirates and bandits.

I leave it to others to do the socio-politico-psycho-sexual analysis.

    • Mooser says:

“The Hebrew caption is better translated as “Enough Castration!”

Wow, the anti-circumcision movement is really vociferous in Israel! They should stick to the facts.

    • Well, as no one else has yet taken up this challenge…

Among other things, Zionism has always been a movement for the “re-masculinization” of the Jewish male, perceived as emasculated in “exile.” The gender-role system of the pre-modern Jewish ghetto, while extremely patriarchal in its own way, differed from the gender-role system of the wider Gentile society in one important respect — namely, the military virtues (physical strength and courage, fighting skill) played no part in defining masculine status, talmudic learning substituting for them. With modernization and the integration of Jews into the broader society, Jewish men whose masculine status was not questioned within ghetto society started to be measured in terms of the military virtues and found wanting. To varying extents they internalized the negative judgment and also regarded themselves as not being “real men.” At the extreme this led to the Jewish self-hatred of Otto Weininger, who took the matter to its logical conclusion by killing himself.

Another response by Jewish men was an attempt to restore their masculine status in their own and others’ eyes by acquiring military virtues. This response was not confined to the Zionists and I don’t think it need be viewed in a wholly negative light. For example, self-defense groups were organized to defend communities against pogroms. But Zionism took this response to its extreme.

In the Yishuv and then Israel, a most unusual pattern appeared in which people deliberately raised their children not in their own image (as people do in almost all cultures) but rather to be as unlike their imagined selves as possible. We “old Jews” were timid and polite, so let us bring up our children to be bold and rude “new Jews,” let us encourage and take pride in their unruliness. The Israeli character is built on this deliberate negation.

I have slipped from talking specifically about Jewish men to talking about Jews of both sexes. The changes that Zionism brought about in the socialization of the Jewish female are very complex and self-contradictory. The “re-masculinization” of the male had as its logical complement a “re-feminization” of the female. But although there was such a tendency it was limited by the rise of feminist ideas and also by the sheer power of the impetus to re-masculinization, over-spilling from men to women. So even Israeli women try to be “macho.”

The old patterns to which the Zionist-Israeli macho is a reaction have now receded into the past. Present-day American, Canadian, British, French etc. Jews bear little resemblance to the ghetto Jews of the past. Should this not weaken the reaction? The reason it does not, I think, is that the image of the old ghetto Jew is artificially kept alive in the “education” and ongoing indoctrination of Israelis as a point of contrast to the counter-image of the new Jew. A psychodrama that bears no relation to present-day reality and should be firmly relegated to the past is instead re-enacted over and over and over again — until we manage to silence it.

      • Mooser says:

“The reason it does not, I think, is that the image of the old ghetto Jew is artificially kept alive in the “education” and ongoing indoctrination of Israelis as a point of contrast to the counter-image of the new Jew.”

Stephen, I can’t help wondering (as well as you explicated the ones you described) if any particular manifestation of it is as harmful as the fact that it’s so supposed to much more fungible than is (to my way of thinking) healthy. I wonder if any one aspect of it is as harmful as the idea that it should shift, and we can shift it so easily. It leaves you with nothing, eventually. Can Jews have it all?

  10. RE: “This image was posted by the rightwing extremist group Im Tirzu on its Facebook page.” ~ Weiss

MY COMMENT: More specifically, Im Tirzu is a rightwing extremist group supported by the Houston Jewish federation, the Jewish Agency, and “Pastor” John Hagee!

SEE: “Houston Jewish Federation, Jewish Agency Fund Im Tirzu’s Assault on Israeli Universities” ~ by Richard Silverstein, Tikun Olam, 3/17/10

(EXCERPTS) What do the Houston Jewish federation, the Jewish Agency, John Hagee, and Im Tirzu have in common? They’re all either directly or indirectly funding a major assault on academic freedom on Israeli campuses. . .
. . . The Israeli finance website, Calcalist, reports that John Hagee donated $120,000 to Im Tirzu in 2009 through the Jewish Agency. The money had been transferred to the [Jewish] Agency by the Houston Jewish Federation as part of an overall $5-million gift. $3-million of that came from [John Hagee's] CUFI and went towards its largely pro-settler Israel philanthropy. Hagee passed the gift through the Agency in order to qualify for a U.S. tax deduction. . .
. . . A second article in the Calcalist makes this important point:
“The Jewish Agency [funded by the Jewish Federations with the help of John Hagee & CUFI ~ J.L.D.] supports organization’s from the Israeli lunatic right, which are attempting to destroy the values of academic freedom in Israeli higher education.”

The Agency, a body whose mission it is to bring new immigrants to settle in the Holy Land, instead transfers very large sums to poisonous organizations which seek legitimacy in attacking academics who’ve actually done something in their lives, having not just written propaganda exposes divorced from any reality.
The columnist concludes by noting the absolute insanity of the Jewish Agency [funded by the Jewish Federations with the help of John Hagee & CUFI ~ J.L.D.] providing funding to an organization that wishes to unleash the thought police on Israeli universities. . .

I love the way the soldiers is drawn in handcuffs, but still has his beloved US-supplied automatic rifle complete with loaded magazine.

  12. pabelmont says:

Why might the outside world intervene (for Palestinians and, as some see it, against Israel)?

Human rights groups (listed above and unlisted) and human-rights witnesses make possible the intervention of the outside world on a humanitarian basis. The outside world might also intervene on an international law basis (that is to say, the existence of settlements and the wall are known and do not require H/R witnesses any more). The cameras, especially, make possible the intervention of the outside world.

And we know (and Im Tirzu knows!) that it is in the intervention of the outside world that progress toward human rights, national rights, and respect for international law and humanitarian conventions is to be found.

So (Oh! Happy day!) all are in perfect agreement — except that [1] Im Tirzu and the GOI and AIPAC and so on do not want any outside intervention, because they prefer the immunity and impunity that the USA has for so long granted to Israel and [2] the outside world also doesn’t want to act (for, if it did, it would have done so by now).

But it smells like change is in the air.

  13. Ha, the worship of brainless machismo seems to be a fundamental part of the invention of the Israeli nation. Any threat to this testosterone-fuelled use of violence without restraint undermines their collective sense of how ‘powerful’ they are, built as it is on such a flimsy premise. Sharon, Yahoo, the whole lot of them worship at the altar of brute force, the kind of power which fears any cracks in the steroid shield of fantasy they have built. It’s not ‘emasculation’ they fear, such a telling phrase, it is humanisation, which is what the recognition of human rights entails. Machismo doesn’t just damage the victims of its hysteria, it damages the people who hide behind it, insecure, paranoid and cowardly, when the facade crumbles. And laughable reactions like this show how weak it actually is.

  14. W.Jones says:

This reminds me of an article by a liberal student who did research at an Israeli university claiming that the low rate of rapes of Palestinians by soldiers meant the soldiers were being racist against Palestinians by holding back.

Yes, I know that does not make sense at face value. But sometimes “liberal Zionism” can be confusing too. Oh well.

  15. Avi_G. says:

The Hebrew word that appears in the poster above actually translates to “neuter”, as in giving someone a “vasectomy”.

    It’s ironic.

I guess it’s perfectly acceptable when Israel physically does it to Ethiopian Jews.

    • sardelapasti says:

It appears from your post that you know Hebrew well. There is however a catch: “to neuter, neutering” does not mean a vasectomy but, as translated, “emasculation”, i.e. making the guy into a eunuch.
Is the interpretation correct / any other people knowledgeable in both Hebrew and the terminology?
A good idea in itself, by the way.

  16. Mooser says:
