‘Gentiles of the Year 2012’ include singer who performed for Israeli army benefit in LA

The tragedy of Zionism: Apparently the Jewish question that stymied Europe for hundreds of years has now become the Israel lobby question. And the category “Righteous Gentiles” — non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews from anti-Semitism in Europe– has become the category of non-Jews who protected Israel’s image from its critics in the west. By the Jewish Telegraphic Agency staff:

Thanks to Claire Danes, Americans have not only fallen in love with an adaptation of an Israeli TV show, but they’ve learned that Tel Aviv is the world’s “most intense party town.” Danes portrays the bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison on the critically acclaimed Showtime series “Homeland,” which had parts of its second season filmed in Israel

After music legend Stevie Wonder backed out of a commitment to perform at a benefit for the Israel Defense Forces in Los Angeles in December, bowing to pressure from pro-Palestinian activists, the Grammy Award-winning singer Chaka Khan took his place. Khan performed several of her signature hits at the gala, which wound up raising $14 million to support the well-being of Israeli soldiers.

We’ve never pointed out here that the New York Times magazine section did a huge spread on Clare Danes, “A Day in Tel Aviv,” last September. It included two shots from Jaffa.

Whether they made us cheer, pray for their salvation, wish they were Catholic, or thank God that they’d never convert, this year had plenty of Jews who played an important role in the Christian story. And what better time to highlight them in the Catholic Press Association’s ‘Jews of the Year’ award than now, during the Christmas holidays?

howz that sound?

$14 for tthe well-being of Israeli soldiers? Raised at a gala? Imagine how much MORE was spent by the participants! How much was tax-deductible? (Hint: not for the dinner, entertainment, blah.)

But seriously, folks, this cannot have been for the well-being of the Israeli milkitary, it must have been for the well-being of the DONORs who came to see and be seen as supporters of Israel (Yea, Team!), as flashy dressers (I’d bet), as big-money-folk (to be sure, $141M is not chopped liver).

And, anyway, Israeli military doesn’t need this measly $14M — not with the $3B+ they get every year from the ever-so-generous USA taxpayers (whose generosity is shown by cutting back on schools, police, fire, libraries, pensions, medical isurance — but never on aid to the least-needy: Israel and the USA’s own, its very, very own, DoD). When you talk “entitlements” in the USA, you’re talking (among other BIGs) BIG-ZION, BIG-DEFENSE.

a benefit for the Israel Defense Forces in Los Angeles in December,

gosh I just cannot remember when the last time any one in the USA did a benefit for US troops…

the passionate attachment……Washington would be proud…wouldnt he

Chaka Kahn? She is the one who stepped in for Stevie? Sorry to hear that and it fits.

Many years ago when she was just starting out on the big circuit, she was set to play at a venue in Manhattan. I was backstage in a reserved area for some reason. I was working there and waiting for a freind.

Chaka was set to go on. She was crying. Just sitting there, not aware I was there. I started to reach for a towel or something, anything to bring to her.

Suddenly one of her handlers came in and started screaming at her, using really vile language and calling her stuff no human being should bear. Then another came and started to hit her, pull her hair and really beat the otta’ her. For some reason she didn’t want to perform, I think.

I was besides myself and they didn’t care who wittnessed this. My freind heard my shouting and came in. Then they let her go. He was some kind of rock and roll reporter and refused to make a report or call the police. I was too intimidated, foolish and young I guess.

Somehow she went on and performed. Maybe she took something.

But since then I’ve had an adversion to much pop culture. I think about that night.

And now I read she stepped in for Wonder.

Who are her handlers now? I hope she is doing well.
