“The Intersection of Political Influence and Journalism” was the topic on the Diane Rehm show this morning. Jane Mayer, author of The Dark Side, was the guest. She spoke about her article in The New Yorker about PBS bending over backwards so as not to offend the rightwing Koch Brothers, and went on to broader questions:
Diane talks with Mayer about the questions her article raises about the influence of big money on public media outlets.
At 48:00 Jim from Newport Township, Illinois, had a question:
Jim: Thanks for some very high quality journalism, I really appreciate that. My comment is that the US taxpayer and US government is the only foreign government in the world that directly funds Zionism, and the entire question I believe is avoided by public broadcasting for the same method of rationale that this program is discussing, and I–
[Jim gets cut off]
Mayer: Well it’s not really what I was writing about, so I don’t feel capable of responding to that, because I haven’t really looked at that issue.

Jane Mayer has written about campaign financing and about ‘Big Money’ (according to Wiki, relating it to ‘both conservatives and liberals’) – and she has nothing to say about Israel and Zionism?

Thanks to Phil, Adam, CODEPINK and many other brave activists the cat’s out of the bag on the Israel issue. I was ignorant for over forty years. People are finally learning the truth. Go figure that people forced out of their homes at gunpoint simple want to go back. It’s not about religion.

I was Diane Reemed last year for bringing up the Netanyahu – Krytron smuggling case in the most appropriate forum – the Friday reporter roundup.

I think it says something about the absolute weakness of the other side’s arguments that gatekeepers like Diane usually cut off such questions, though she is occasionally magnanimous.
