Princeton students ‘come out’ for Palestine to overcome shame attached to issue in U.S.

Beautiful video out of Princeton. A bunch of students from diverse backgrounds “come out for Palestine,” so as to remove the stigma that the issue has in the U.S. These students speak of human rights, the end of the occupation and the blockade, and the right of return. Very moving.

Tumblr has the script. Here’s the start:

In order to ensure peace and justice in the Middle East, it is necessary that Palestinians be afforded their universal human rights. The phrase “coming out” which originated in the LGBT community has been used in a variety of contexts to describe the self-disclosure of a person’s potentially shameful identity or beliefs. In the political climate of the United States, expressing sympathy with Palestinians can be the cause of this kind of stigma. We hope to change that on Princeton’s campus.

And look, Al Quds has covered it.

Wonderful video.

Princeton heroes. Bravo!

Nothing like righteous indignation from students from a school that houses the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and Int’l affairs….but at least they’re a step up from their Ivy league brethren from Harvard that only chirped anonymously……

For the Israeli independence day parade, there were major cities where thousands came out from rabbinical schools, etc. In comparison, there were several dozen people commemorating the Nakba at the event. It looks like Palestinians themselves are relatively suppressed on this issue in America. The balance of participation is not weighing in their favor, I’m afraid, and it hurts them from telling their sad story.
