It’s Friday, and March madness is upon us. So here’s some pro-Israel iconography for your viewing pleasure as we get ready for the weekend.
I saw this image of Tzipi Livni wearing a blue crown on a J Street facebook page. I must admit it leaves me cold. (Maybe because Livni always reads as tough, and she had such a hand in the Gaza slaughter.)
More, better. Yesterday the National Lawyers Guild said boldly that Northeastern University was deferring to big pro-Israel donors in its cowardly decision to suspend the Students for Justice in Palestine chapter there. NLG specifically called out the school’s dependence on Robert Shillman, an electrical engineer and entrepreneur from Massachusetts who supports the Israeli Defense Forces. NLG said Shillman is
an NU alumni who paid for the construction of Shillman Hall (and, presumably, the prominently displayed statue of himself and his cat).
Here’s that sculpture (per the Northeastern newspaper).
Here is another version of the statue in Israel (at the Technion institute in Haifa, according to Wikipedia).
I bet Shillman has a couple more up his sleeve. Maybe we could get one at the new Technion in New York City?
This one is for popular-culture types. I had to look up Blair Underwood (actor, LA Law), testing out Israeli military equipment in Israel, per the IDF‘s twitter feed.
And also from the Israeli Defense Forces, a Shabbat message. And not in Hebrew– so it’s for us over here.
I have a lot to learn about Shabbat!
Oh and this just in from Ronnie Barkan‘s facebook page. With the post below.
For several years now, Israel has been at war with my darling niece.
Those who are responsible for her education have taken up the task of destroying any chance of her growing up to become a decent person, by indoctrinating her into an ultra nationalist and militant way of “thinking”.
The picture was taken at a well regarded kindergarten in an upper middle class suburb of Tel-Aviv, apartheid Israel.
Thanks to Ofer Neiman.
I don’t roll on Shabbos

Shabbat Shalom- with the guns- it’s nuts if you think about it.
But Bots aren’t encouraged to think, are they ?
Is this what our British cousins refer to as “sick-making”?
Re the Livni image, is this a makeshift suggestion of the crown on the Statue of Liberty?
On a related note, Israel will pay Israelis living in US (dual citizens) to come home: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/178756#.Uyxz01zEPwI
The amount of money the Israeli government has allotted to budget this enterprise is about the same as American taxpayers give Israel directly per year.
“Shillman believes in the Jewish philosophy of Tikkun olam, and sits on philanthropic boards of The Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous and the David Horowitz Freedom Center” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_J._Shillman
Tikkun Olam (repair the world) for whom though? Is it a self serving (group serving) meme?

MY COMMENT: ¡Blair Underwood es muy macho! As are many homophobes.
