Let’s Get Cooking: The summer Mondoweiss fundraising drive

AFl

We depend on readers for support, and again and again you have come through. Well, now it’s time for our summer fundraiser. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today to keep the site going, and to keep changing the American view of the conflict. Please help us get better.

We are thankful to all those who have chipped in before. The last year has seen us continue to grow and gain more relevance in the U.S. scene and the world discourse, too. We’ve tracked the crumbling of the two-state solution and the changing views of Israel inside the American Jewish community and the battle against Islamophobia in our public culture. We’ve helped foster a conversation that would have been impossible to imagine just two years ago.

gazakitchenThe evidence of our growing influence is in the numbers — over 8 million page views in the last year. But more than that in our bylines. We have had contributions from over 60 different writers in the last month alone as we continue to diversify the site and make it more broadly representative, pushing ideas that have had little place or honor in the establishment media.

We do this on a shoestring, but we need your help to keep that string from fraying. It’s summer, and we have a wonderful gift for those who give $80 or more: a book of Palestinian cooking. Your choice, either Olives, Lemons & Za’atar: The Best Middle Eastern Home Cooking from Rawia Bishara, the owner of the legendary New York restaurant Tanoreen, or The Gaza Kitchen, the exciting compilation of Mediterranean specialties by Laila El-Haddad and Maggie Schmitt. Just what your grill has been asking for, not to mention your family and friends. (Books will mail out in July, but unfortunately we can only mail to addresses in the U.S. only.)

oliveslemonszaatarAlso we’re excited to announce that donors of over $200 will receive a book of their choice and be invited to join the Mondoweiss team for a delicious meal at Tanoreen in the early Fall. Please join us, we look forward to meeting you in person!

We thank all our readers for visiting the site and for all your contributions. We are only able to do such meaningful work because of you. For that, we are deeply grateful. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today.

Donation made. I look forward to getting Ms. Bishara’s book. :-)

A great way to raise money – I’m in.

Good stuff, but what and where is Tanoreen?
OK, I googled it. Phil et al, some of us don’t have the expertise you have in cuisine, nor the money for it, let alone the money to travel to it. Some of us who are regular commenters here are just average Americans. Please include us in your incentives to keep MW up and running and astute.

Thanks Citizen, and certainly understand. This is our first try at something like this, so we’re starting local. If this goes well, we can try it other places as well, including somewhere near you.

For the time being, the books that are being offered can be sent anywhere in the U.S. Hope that helps and thanks!

Even though I won’t be attending, I think it’s a great idea. I hope it goes well. :-)
