Video: Israeli sniper kills Palestinian protester in Hebron

Israel/Palestine
on 18 Comments

This video captures the moment an Israeli sniper shot a bullet into the heart of Nader Mohammad Edrees, 40, during a protest in the Bab az-Zaweya area of Hebron on Friday. Doctors performed heart surgery but were unable to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead hours later.

The video appears to show that Edrees posed no risk at all to occupying Israeli forces. Also note the brave older man near the end of the video waving a green cardboard rocket on his arm, in apparent support for Hamas’s actions in Gaza, right in front of soldiers’ guns.

Edrees was buried today in Hebron.

Edrees was one of three Palestinian men killed in separate protests in the last few days being held in locations across the occupied West Bank where Israeli military forces open fired with live ammunition.

Ma’an News reports at least 50 Palestinians were injured by shots of live ammunition rounds. The International Middle East Media Center (IMEMC)reports that along with being shot by the live rounds, gas bombs and concussion grenades were also used to disperse the demonstrators.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been demonstrating in the last month, in solidarity with their people in Gaza, many of whom have been slaughtered in massacres by the Israeli military.

    What would Adorno Horkheimer say?

“We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children,” she said. “But we can never forgive them for forcing us to kill their children.” Golda Meir / CBS Bob Schieffer

” To understand — and ultimately confront — the outbreak of contemporary Jew-hatred, a sociological theory provided by two German Jewish philosophers carries great explanatory power. Theodor W. Adorno (1903-1969) and Max Horkheimer (1895-1973) argued that post-Holocaust Germany was contaminated with “Guilt-defensiveness anti-Semitism.”

In short, they argued, many Germans sought to purge their guilt by blaming the Jews for the Hitler movement. The Israeli psychoanalyst Zvi Rex captured this outlook in one sarcastic, ironic sentence: The Germans will never forgive the Jews for Auschwitz.”

New MW comment rule needed: accusations of anti-Semitism but be proven on the spot or will not be published.

How very brave. But yeah, being the most moral army in the world, what choice have you got?

    @ Annie,

Who shot the close-up of the rifle at the beginning of this clip?

I ask, because no Palestinian would be allowed near an IDF marksman and his team [s/he would be very dead].

It would be a funny skit if people were not being killed for protesting, or simply for being there–that guy with the greed cardboard rocket wrapped around his arm?

On and on and on this Israeli unbridled killing of innocent people. No U.S. humanitarian aid lifts to Palestinian people in Gaza. No talk of arming them so they could protect themselves.

Kerry “hell of a pinpoint operation”
    Netanyahu “proportionate, just”

Annie/all been reading a bit about the Palestinian children being sent to Caracas Venezuela. Orphans? Is this a new way to get rid of future generations of Palestinian children. Kill their parents send them away.

On Saturday NPR’s Jackie Northam reported about an Israeli border town to the Gaza Nativ Haasara and Gaza tunnels. So lop sided. She had the sound of Israeli kibbutz kids splashing in swimming pools and said nothing about Israeli control of water. Israeli swimming pools not far from Gaza. Never hear anything about whether the land that this kibbutz is on was stolen land, the site of a Palestinian village. Not finding much on the web about that particular kibbutz. Annie, Phil think you might be interested in that NPR story. Never anything about how Palestinian people in Gaza get much needed supplies through these tunnels.

Interested in where these tunnels led to.

Most of the tunnels went into Egypt to bring back supplies for the basics of living.

Over at Informed Comment Prof Cole has some truth zingers up. Prof Cole ” Humanitarian Mission may sound good to American ears, but there is not way a few food drops can make up for what the U.S. did to Iraq.” For several decades. Hundreds of thousands dead, millions displaced, more than likely a million Iraqi people injured. You never hear Chris Matthews etc use the term “genocide” for those U.S. actions.

Israel’s IDF thugs…murderers…of so many helpless Palestinian civilians and there it is for the world to see…over and over…the trigger happy IDF thugs at it again…a daily routine chore. Just looks like their damn routine zionist Palestinian/Arab target target practice day/moment. Its business as usual…no remorse…no feelings…no humanity…at all…killing/murdering non-jews is their game!

These killers have no worries about going to prison for murdering Palestinians/Arabs/Christians/Muslims regardless of their age…

Israel’s IDF NEVER go to prison for committing such atrocities… Yep…not for one hour…NEVER!!!

I don’t really understand this video. It seems to be of two events; one where the streets are empty and one where there is a demonstration. There need to be subtitles to explain what is happening.

Will Israel’s government go with their ever predictable response: there will be a military investigation regarding this event. I know these types of incidences garner virtually no attention in the American mainstream media. Bob Schieffer can offer his journalistic acumen to explain that this individual deserved to die. He is getting his monologue straight from Ministry of Propaganda in Israel.
