Israel approves stop-and-frisk just as Mayor de Blasio arrives in solidarity

The news rom Ynet:

Government approves new ‘stop and frisk’ authority for police

New legislation allows police to conduct physical search of person and their belongings without probable cause; rights group: Law is selectively enforced against Arabs.

The [Israeli] government approved a bill on Sunday allowing police to conduct searches without probable cause, as tensions continue running high throughout Israel.

Bill de Blasio became New York’s mayor in part by campaigning against a stop and frisk policy in New York. Now visiting Israel, he said he is there in solidarity with Israelis, and he visited injured victims of “terror” in the hospital. He visited occupied Jerusalem and praised Israeli stewardship of the holy sites. He was selective and purposely vague in his condemnation of violence:

“We understand that any act of violence against a civilian is unacceptable and we have to condemn it and we have to stop it,” he said. “Because there can’t be peace when civilians are wantonly attacked just for going about their business.”

It is part of de Blasio’s “job description” to support Israel, he has said; but not evidently to support Palestinians. He tweeted today:

Tel Aviv is a diverse, inclusive city — not unlike our own! Inspired to spend time with Mayor

PEP, Progressive Except Palestine, is the Democratic political condition.

Thanks to William McGowan for this story.

“PEP, Progressive Except Palestine, is the Democratic political condition.”

They need to muddy the waters enough to get the Demo candidate through the election, without actually debating the salient points or changing.

PEP isn’t so easy, or sellable, when Netanyahu has aligned himself with the Republicans, and gets his strongest support from people who listen to Rush Limbaugh.

“Stop and frisk” is just” one stop away” from “stop and shoot” or perhaps we are already there.

I am no longer a fan of the mayor.
