‘Caught on Camera’: Extrajudicial killings of Palestinians

A new report summarizing Israel’s Arbitrary Killings and its System of Structural Violence was released by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor at a press conference in Geneva on Friday. The release included the following video, “Caught on Camera: Israel’s extrajudicial killings,” illustrating the killings of Palestinian civilians involved in political protests during the last two weeks.

The report follows Euro-Med Monitor‘s October 10th Call on International Community to hault Israel’s extrajudicial executions.

Euro-Med Monitor Press Release: ISRAELI BRUTALITIES CAUGHT ON CAMERA:

While the Israeli government has to date escaped serious accountability for repeated human rights violations, “citizen journalism”—in which excessive acts of force are caught on camera—now is making it more difficult for the acts to be obscured or brushed aside, says the report.

“Thanks to the courageous acts of activists, family members and bystanders, Euro-Med has collected video footage and eyewitness testimonies documenting numerous, egregious abuses by Israeli soldiers during the last few weeks, which we believe is only the tip of the iceberg,” says Daniela Dönges. “In our report, we name eight of them, because they are not just numbers. They are human beings with stories that must be told.”

The eight cases called out in the report are:

  •          Thirteen-year-old Ahmed Manasra, who was run over by a car and beaten with sticks and metal pipes, then deprived of any medical care for 25 minutes. The Israelis claimed he tried to attack their soldiers, but video recordings show otherwise. Instead, he is seen lying on the ground, bleeding and calling for help.
  •          Sixteen-year-old Marah Bakri also was accused of trying to stab an Israeli soldier, but widely circulated photos calls that claim into serious question. In one, nine soldiers pointing guns surround the young girl, covered in blood on the ground. The authorities refused to produce its evidence of a crime.
  •          Israa Abed, 29, is another alleged knife-wielding attacker. Surveillance video footage shows only a terrified young woman who panicked when ordered to remove her hijab, a sign of her religion. She refused, but threw up her hands. Abed was shot by four bullets.
  •          Fadi Samir Mustafa Alloun, 19, another accused stabber, was actually chased by a group of enraged Israeli settlers. The police came to protect the settlers, not Fadi. Video recordings shared on Israeli websites show the settlers before the police shot him.
  •          Hadil Alhashlamoun, 18, was passing through a checkpoint when she set off a metal detector alarm. There are conflicting witness accounts regarding whether the girl had a knife, but photographic evidence and eyewitness testimony is clear that she posed no risk. While she was lying on the ground, two soldiers shot bullets into both knees, her right thigh, her pelvis, her abdomen, both forearms and her chest.
  •          Twenty-five-year-old Muhammed Bassam Amsha, also was passing through a checkpoint when he was killed. Soldiers claimed they had photos showing the young man had a knife, but refused to produce them.
  •          Tha’er Abughazaleh,19, did indeed stab a soldier in rage and frustration. But instead of then running away from police, leading them to shoot, photographic evidence suggest he was unnecessarily shot point blank in the head.
  •          Falah Hamdi Zamel Abumaria, 53, was shot and killed in his home when the Israeli military came to seize his son. Despite the official story that the Israelis were attaced by the older man, eyewitnesses tell the truth, that Abumaria was trying to defend his son—with a pottery vase. For that, he was shot three times in the chest.

“No thinking person with a heart can hear this list and not feel horrified and aghast,” says Dönges. “Yet up until now, Israel has escaped any kind of serious accounting beyond some talk. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor calls on the Israeli authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into these thinly veiled outright murders. However, because we lack any confidence they will do so, we also call on the UN special rapporteurs for extra-judicial killings and the Palestinian territories to visit the region to do their own investigation.”

Right. He didn’t stab soldiers, Ahmed Mansara and his cousin stabbed a 13 year old Jewish twelve times with their knives, outside of a candy store.

No Blah, what’s sick is that Euro-Med, Mondoweiss, etal are trying to turn this bloodthirsty child into a hero.
The 13 year olds I know, are repelled by violence. But young Ahmed had the blood lust to knife a 13 y.o. Jewish boy over and over with his knife.

After watching Ahmed’s knifing video, would you allow him near your kids?
        Be honest.

Please don’t worry, “Jackdaw”! When they are 18, it’s off to the IDF, and service in the occupation. They will learn to love it, especially if they heavily outnumber the woman or child.
Sure, 13 yr old Zionist kids may be “repelled by violence”(ROTFLMSJAO!) buit they won’t have that failing for long.

Watch the other little boy. Does he react as though right in front of him a boy is being butchered with knives?
And the young woman. She does not even look at the 13 year old who is supposedly bleeding from 12 stabwounds right in front of her. And another young man just keeps shopping and does not even turn his head towards the place where the stabbed boy supposedly lies bleeding on the pavement inplain sight. Try to make 12 stabs between the moment when the boy is still riding the bike and the boys are being chased away. You can’t.

This video just doesn’t add up.

In the Euro-Med bubble, and in the Mondoweiss echo chamber, no armed criminals ever attempts to flee, or to resist arrest. Caught red handed, all criminals simply drop their weapons and assume the position. Like on T.V.!

If YOU say so. No one here has. Welcome to the real world.

In the real world, humans have legs, feet, arms, shoulders that can be shot at from far far greater distances than alleged or even real knives can be thrown. Edging my three score and ten I can still hit a rabbit in the head at 150 yards with an antiquated .22 rifle without a scope. What are Israeli snipers if not f*cking useless.

This video released by the Israeli police seems to show that they maybe bumped into the boy on the bike, turned towards him for a second (to help him?) and then IMMEDIATELY ran off. I see no twelve stabs with a knife, in fact not a single one. The whole video is weird. You see the two cousins strolling in a relaxed way, and the captions say they were terrorists with knives on the lookout for a victim. When they are supposedly chasing their severely wounded victim (he does not look wounded at all) it seem more like they were running in the same direction by coincidence because they turn right when the man turns left.
In the last scene too it is totally unclear what is really happening.

These kids know that to perpetrate a crime means giving up your life . No doubt, they will be shot (unlike the Jewish terrorists, who sometimes are not even arrested), so it clearly shows they are fed up and desperate now. Abbas has no control over this. Whatever he says, or does not say, they are not going to listen, because they know at the end nothing changes. These kids are courageous in the sense, they know they are facing a well trained military force with the best weapons. Yet, they prefer to die than go on this way.

      || Jackdaw: … the video recording show otherwise’ Right. He didn’t stab soldiers, Ahmed Mansara and his cousin stabbed a 13 year old Jewish twelve times with their knives, outside of a candy store. ||

I condemn the crime and expect both criminals to stand trial and, if found guilty, to be held accountable for their actions.

So, just to confirm: If two Jewish teenagers stabbed a “non-Jewish” twelve times, you would be OK (you would not find it inappropriate, excessive or anti-Semitic) for non-Jewish security/Occupation forces:
      – to shoot dead the 15-year-old; and
      – to deliberately run over the 13-year-old and then deny him medical assistance, insult him and kick him.

There’s a picture of the perpetrator in hospital. why no pictures of either of the two stabbing victims? All we have is somebody’s word for those victims existing at all – there’s no useful evidence of a stabbing, or two, here.

jon, i read about that (1 soldier dead) and saw the video of civilians attacking a person on the ground with chair and metal bench. haaretz wrote http://www.haaretz.com/1.681069

An Eritrean asylum seeker was shot and wounded by a security guard after he misidentified him as a terrorist.

The asylum seeker, identified as Haftom Zarhum, 29, of Eritrea, traveled to Be’er Sheva to obtain a visa and was on his way home when he was shot. In videos captured at the scene, the asylum seeker is seen attacked by the people around him, including a soldier, after being shot. The people are seen kicking him, throwing a bench at him and pinning him to the ground with a chair.

from the haaretz report it sounds as though they were attacking an innocent person.

Shouldn’t the fact that an innocent Israeli civilian being basically lynched in the street prove that there is no rhyme or reason to Palestinians being attacked? If he was just going on about his business, and didn’t pose a threat to anyone, what other reason could there have been for an attack on him other than the fact that they thought he was Palestinian?

        This is modern day lynching.

Another innocent African migrant were killed by Israeli soldier who thought he was a Palestinian during the hysterical moments.

You obviously haven’t read the actual report which correctly states that two of the eight instances cited involved injuring rather than killing the alleged perpetrators. It is merely the headline to this article that is incorrect. And yes it does matter- Zionist apologetics can get away unquestioned with faulty logic, false assumptions, bias, exaggeration, distortion, and frequently blatant lies, but woe betide any anti-Zionist critique has which the slightest element of sloppiness or inconsistency: the defenders of Israel will sieze on this rather the 99% that is entirely fair and accurate to denounce the article as worthless propaganda.

Facts and context together are needed in order to tell the whole story. “Israelis and Palestinians are Living in Different Worlds,” http://972mag.com/israelis-and-palestinians-are-living-in-different-worlds/112934/ From the article:

Palestinians are rejecting the Israeli version of the recent stabbing attacks and police shootings largely because of the context: a long history of state — and civilian — violence against Palestinians, almost always without any accountability. From the Kafr Qassem massacre to the Jewish Underground to Beitunia to the deadly police shootings in Kafr Kanna and Rahat last year to the still-unsolved murder in Duma, Palestinians have no reason to believe that the State of Israel values Palestinian lives. It only follows, then, that there is no reason to believe Israel’s justifications for killing Palestinians.

Likewise, President Abbas last week gave Israelis yet another reason not to trust him and the Palestinian narrative when he claimed that Israel had executed a 13-year-old boy in Jerusalem. So when Prime Minister Netanyahu latched onto Abbas’s — quickly retracted — accusation, describing it as yet another case of dangerous and malicious incitement by Palestinian leaders, no Palestinians really cared. Perhaps it is because in gloatingly proving that Israel didn’t kill this 13-year-old boy, Netanyahu didn’t even mention the four other Palestinian boys under the age of 15 that Israel did kill this month (one in Aida refugee camp, one in Jalazoun refugee camp, and two in Gaza — one in a shooting and a second in a bombing).

Via Jafar Ramini’s fb page, a message translated by him from Bassam Abu Sharif (PNC council member, former advisor to Arafat):

“A European diplomatic source in Jerusalem said that Mr John Kerry and Neyanyahu’s [sic] will be meeting in Berlin, Germany this coming Wednesday instead of TelAviv was as a result of an exchange of frantic telephone conversations between Washington and Tel Aviv which the source described as ‘charged’. The source continued to reveal that the choice of Berlin as an alternative venue for the meeting came after the Israeli government refused to receive Mr Kerry in Tel Aviv knowing that his visit to Tel Aviv would be followed by a visit to Ramallah. The Israeli government refused this suggestion so as to prevent Mr Kerry from seeing or hearing about the behavior and conduct of the Israeli army against the civilian Palestinians in the West Bank. Furthermore, this refusal has come after Netanyahu has refused to receive a ministerial delegation from Europe and as a result the delegation cancelled its visit toTel Aviv and Ramallah.”

An Israeli journalist has leaked the news that Netanyahu, when asked by one of his ministers about the possibility of the USA criticizing or condemning the widespread penetration of the Israeli army into the West Bank said “I have total international cover and the United States of America, at this time, will not be able to criticize us with even one syllable” and when the minister looked at him askance, asking for an explanation Netanyahu said “It’s election time and there is a vacuum and at such times we rule America.”

“Never,” or so it would appear.

Mr. Obama, having already “earned” his Peace Prize, can leave that job to some future president. Of course, it won’t be done by anyone now running, to judge by their words. Which means we can harbor hope for sometime in the distant future, when Israel will have fully accomplished its goal–whatever that may be–and the hopes and dreams of any Palestinians alive today are mostly moot.

“U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will fly to Amman on Saturday for meetings with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and King Hussein of Jordan, in an effort to stop the escalating Palestinian-Israeli violence.

Prior to that, Kerry will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Berlin on Thursday.

A senior official in Jerusalem said that during their meeting, Netanyahu will not present Kerry with any concessions or good-will gestures towards the Palestinians. “The prime minister will demand an end to incitement and violence, and that the Palestinian Authority take concrete steps to prove it,” the senior official said. Netanyahu’s flight to Berlin could be canceled should the security situation further escalate, the official added.

In addition to Kerry’s efforts, the UN Security Council is expected to begin discussions Monday on a presidential statement regarding the Temple Mount and the escalation in Jerusalem.

Negotiations on the wording of the statement – a nonbinding document that requires consensus approval – are expected to conclude Thursday or Friday. Only at that point will it become clear whether the council backs a French proposal to station international observers on the Temple Mount to monitor violations of the status quo.

At the start of Sunday’s cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said Israel rejects France’s proposed draft of the presidential statement. “It contains no mention of Palestinian incitement or Palestinian terror,” he said. “We’ve already seen what happens to holy sites in the Middle East, where Muslim extremists are destroying each other’s mosques, Christian sites, heritage sites and Jewish sites.

“Israel isn’t the problem on the Temple Mount, but the solution,” he added. “We uphold the status quo. We’re the only ones who do this, and we’ll continue to do it responsibly and seriously. There has been no change in the status quo other than the attempt – by people organized by the Israeli Islamic Movement and other extremists – to bring explosives into the mosques and attack Jews from the mosques.”…”

Insist on peace and justice for the Palestinians or get out of the way, US. Why spend any time on the wording of a statement that is nonbinding and requires consensus approval of the UNSC? Say it out loud~ Israel is NOT the solution, and has never been! Israel has never sought peace with Palestinians. Israel incited this mess~ again. Netanyahu didn’t get his way wrt Iran, and lashed out at his usual innocent victims. It was a series of deliberate and planned provocations on the Occupied~ same as always.

Why can’t the US strongly criticize the occupation, and say it is the reason for all the rage and revolting by the Palestinians? This talk about achieving peace is simply a temporary fix, and it has been done before. Time the US changed it’s tactics and urged the occupier to stop the occupation and land grabs, it they want the violence from the Palestinian side to stop.

Nothing else is going to stop that. It is all in the occupier’s hands. There is no point pretending otherwise.

It will be interesting to see if the behavior of the civilians in the bus terminal will prosecuted. Their actions, after all, may have contributed to the death of another. Does anyone think they’ll get the same treatment as the men sent to prison for the Zada killing?

“He’s not sane”. Yeah, crazy – like a fox.

With presidential primaries coming up in the US there is indeed a sort of vacuum. No aspiring candidates are going to jeopardize their chances by angering Jewish voters and, most importantly, donors, by critizing Israel at this time, no matter how atrocious her behavior. As for Mr. Obama, he is so thrilled to have the Iran deal go through over Netanyahu’s tantrums that it’s unlikely he’s going to push his luck. And on the I/P issue, I think that, sadly, he has already given up.

    omg:

“U.S. Military Chief Pledges More Military Cooperation With Israel

Gen. Dunford talks Iran, Hezbollah and ISIS with Netanyahu during visit to Israel.

The top U.S. military officer pledged further military cooperation with Israel Sunday in meetings with the country’s leaders, amid increasing worries about Iranian involvement in the Syria conflict.

Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and they acknowledged that while the U.S. and Israel differ on the Iran nuclear agreement, the two nations must also deal with malign Iranian activities in the region. The seven-nation nuclear pact formally took effect Sunday, and could eventually provide Iran relief from international sanctions in exchange for constraining its nuclear program.

Navy Capt. Greg Hicks, a spokesman for Dunford, said the meeting at Netanyahu’s residence included discussions about Islamic State extremists, Iranian influence and Iran’s ties to Hezbollah.

“There’s no shortage of challenges, and I think that there’s common agreement that we have to stop this aggression in the region, but specifically the aggression that is aimed at Israel,” Netanyahu said at the start of the meeting. “There’s a lot to talk about — how to bolster our common security interests and Israel’s ability to defend itself, by itself, against these and other threats.”

Dunford, who took over as chairman on October 1, is on his first overseas trip as chairman. He said he made Israel his first stop, reflecting the important relationship the U.S. has with the Israelis. …”

And so it goes. When you hate Israel with an irreconcilable passion any murderous acts committed against Israelis can be justified. The Palestinians show it with glee, their other supporters tend to be a bit more circumspect.

Here is glee for you. I am re linking from Zaid comment above. Now here is the ugly truth that you find hard to admit to – to be so vicious over the shooting of a 5 years old is nothing but a snapshot of the hatred and viciousness that the occupying side has for it’s victims. Hasbara central must stop projecting and be realistic. If these Palestinians are not toeing the occupied line, it is because they are fed up of suffering and being abused by their occupiers. Time so called intelligent people in Israel realized the consequences of a occupation and land theft – the mice are roaring. The zionists must set them free or else it will go on.

” These people are attacking Jews with knives “

I know, they don’t even have pistols. I have never, ever in my life seen people as basically pacific as the Palestinians. Only when desperation is overwhelming do they strike out, and I think they are so unused to and disinclined to act violently, they cannot bring themselves to organized, planned violence. Amazing and inspiring.

BTW , “MaxNarr” you do know that none of this is taking place in Israel, right? It is taking place in areas illegally occupied by Israel.

I notice that you use the word ”Jews” twice in one sentence. A lot of hasbarists do. They’re warming up for the ‘anti-semitism” attack.

Tell me this: Would you also use the word ”Jew” to refer to Israelis behaving aggressively (as they so often do)? Would you say ”Jews murdered 500 children last summer”, or ”Jewish terrorists wiped out a Palestinian family in an arson attack” ? Or are Israelis only ”Jews” when it serves to reinforce their victim status, and would you cry ‘anti-semitism’ if anyone used the J-word in the above context?

      I bet you would.

This should support the narrative that the US aids and abets Israel. The best thing would be for an international presence on Temple Mount as proposed by France. The US prefers the occupier to keep killing civilians, and the death toll to mount. Shame. It would be interesting to see what other nations will support this, maybe Micronesia will not.

The narrative that the US is trying hard to broker peace, is neutral, and doing it’s utmost to achieve that peace. We know the reality is we send them gazillions in aid, weapons, ammunition to reload and kill more Palestinians, and will stand up to the entire world when it comes to doing Israel’s bidding. That narrative.
