Chicago Reform temple welcomes rightwing rabbi from sexist group — why?

Two days ago Rabbi Shmuley Boteach planted trees in occupied territory of Palestine, signalling his militant American opposition to Palestinian enfranchisement. Tomorrow the Chabad rabbi is the keynote speaker at BJBE, a big Reform temple outside Chicago.

What would get a Chabad rabbi to step foot inside a reform temple led by a woman rabbi? Well, because of Zionism – the glue that holds the Jewish community together. Rabbi Karyn Kedar surely detests his misogynistic community and he has no respect for the “Reformistim”. After all, BJBE is dedicated to gender diversity/equality:

welcomes people living all lifestyles, married, single, same sex commitments, interfaith and interracial, people with diversity of needs and personal priorities.

And to intermarried couples too:

full scope of beliefs, levels of observance and varying histories

Kedar is willing to set aside these principles for a higher one. One thing we can all agree: We Stand with Israel. The event that will honor both Boteach and Kedar is sponsored by StandWithUs, a rightwing pro-Israel group.

another narrow-minded an bigoted statement from illustrious author PW. Putting thoughts in Keder’s mind about what she must surely “detest”. and assuming that Chabad is sexist in the worst way possible. If this is true then the entirety of Islam is equally as ‘sexist’ as Chabad.
maybe pw is just miffed that an esteemed reform temple would open its doors to listen to another perspective from a fellow Jew.
BTW-the reform organization just the other day embraced new rules making all reform services, seating, pro-nouns, etc. including bathrooms in temples gender neutral in a broad acceptance of lbgt rights. Maybe pw should be praising a ‘right-wing’ rabbi for having the open mindedness to speak to a reform congregation.

the only ting correct about this is that Israel is definitely the “glue” that binds Jews from many stripes together.

“What would get a Chabad rabbi to step foot inside a reform temple led by a woman rabbi? – “

It was shear fright! They threatened to stand him up against the Wailing Wahl.

I am no fan of Boteach, nor of the attitude he displays regarding the occupied territories, but to infer that his offense is that he belongs to Lubavitch, this displays the zealotry of Phil Weiss, only concerned with his corner of the Jewish community, but at large offended by the idea of letting a Lubavitcher (Chabadnik) speak at a Reform Temple.

Weiss Sez:
“Rabbi Karyn Kedar surely detests his misogynistic community and he has no respect for the “Reformistim””

BJBE has a new building that can accommodate the droves of people who are excited to hear Rabbi Boteach. Stand By Us Chicago is a proud sponsor.
I have met and have spoken with Rabbi Kedar several times and I can tell you she despises BDS and the Israel hatred that you – Weiss spews and the Israel hatred that Mondoweiss spews.
Yes, there are issues that Rabbi Boteach and Rabbi Kedar disagree, what unites them though is their love of Israel and their care for the Jewish people throughout the world.

Let: Reformist Islam exist. Let: Reformist Islam sit at the same table as misogynistic Islam. Let: some nonIslam condemn Reformist Islam for such breaking of bread. Prediction: Phil Weiss would condemn that nonIslam for Islamophobia.
