‘Just in case he wins…’: Royal Jordanian takes jab at Trump’s ‘Muslim ban’ in Election Day advertisement

Jordan’s national airline carrier has posted an advertisement that takes a jab at presidential candidate Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims by offering an Election Day sale of fares to locations in the United States while Muslims are still let into the country.

“Just in case he wins…Travel to the US while you’re still allowed to!” the advertisement on Royal Jordanian’s Facebook account said. Flights to Chicago, Detroit, and New York are listed for around $1000 for round trip fares.

Responses to the politically charged tagline on social media were mixed. Some cheered on the airline for its creativity in spoofing Trump’s December 2016 statement where the candidate called “for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”

Others admonished the state-owned airline for a lack of professionalism in weighing in on the election of another country. This is the line Jordan’s King Abdullah II took when CNN asked his opinion of the Muslim ban last January.

“You’re into an election cycle, so I don’t think it’s fair for you to ask a foreign leader to, to express his opinion on candidates in your country running for election,” Abdullah said.
