Also on hand at the convention: John Mearsheimer, Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota, Jeremy Ben-Ami of J Street, Donna Edwards (the smart new congresswoman from MD), and an Arab member of the Knesset. Oh my. I told AIPAC to get Mearsheimer, but they didn't listen.
By the way, Mearsheimer spoke at a mosque in Detroit on Saturday night and made a strong pitch for the Muslim community to get behind the two-state solution and ally itself with the individuals and groups in the American Jewish community who favor that outcome. Only with such strong alliances, he said, could President Obama put pressure on Israel to accept the idea of creating a viable Palestinian state. Which, he said, is the only good alternative on the table.
