  • UCLA prof reprimanded for linking to website advocating boycott of Israel
    • God these stories of academic censorship, intimidation, never end.
How about this for a video title [Israelism?]:
Rev. Sam Clarke encourages Christians to defeat anti-Semitism, anti-Israelism
      link to youtube.com

  • Woman removed from Air France flight for not being Jewish
    • Anti-gentilism, anti-nonsemitism, gentilephobic, endless possibilities for a new hate word a la anti-Israelism the new anti-semitism.

  • Define Orientalism (Palestinians make heroes of people who kill civilians)
    • "even when their crimes have involved killing Israeli civilians"

Wikileaks: "According to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Anti-Defamation League, a total of 1,194 Israelis and foreigners were killed and 7,000 wounded between September 2000 and August 2010 by Palestinian terror attacks (most of them during 2000–2005 Second Intifada); while more than 3,000 Israelis have been killed and 25,000 have been wounded as a result of Palestinian violence and hostile enemy action (without including wars) since the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948 until today."

4000 prisoners, 3000 civilian deaths since 1948, or roughly one 9/11 in 64 years. Tragic though these deaths are, the article makes it sound like most prisoners are killers. Just one look at the numbers reveals how exaggerated the tragic but relatively low death toll is, and how small the minority of prisoners with blood on their hands must be.

  • Israeli celebrity says she enjoyed video of IDF attacking Danish activist because he looked like a Nazi
    • Israeli racism never ends. To many, every non-Jewish European is a Nazi or a terrorist. She needs to go cool off, watch some Inglorious Basterds. It's obviously Israeli policy to indoctrinate their kids to believe the whole world are anti-semites just waiting to wipe them off the map. The film Defamation illustrates it brilliantly on the trip to Auschwitz when the girl is overcome with fear & loathing at the site of a couple of harmless Polish pensioners, imagining the hate filled venom they are spitting at her in indecipherable Polish.

And yet Israeli's are applying for second passports at record rates, Berlins Jewish population is booming. Maybe the cats out the bag. Maybe, Jews dont need Israel anymore.

  • Munayyer: Liberal Zionist sympathy for Palestinians generally ends at the green line. This is moral and intellectual cowardice.
    • Except there aren't sizeable Native American populations, who within living memory, were cleansed from America and are living in camps in Mexico and Canada, dreaming of a return. And who is asking Israelis to hand over everything they own? Only to return what they have stolen. 'Jews from all over the middle east' settled Israel? Talk about rewriting history. They were encouraged (to put it kindly) to join their saviours only after Europeans, predominately, had started the colonisation project. Palestinians ancestral land is... Palestine. 21% of today's Israelis are immigrants from Europe and the Americas; 70% are up to third generation, born & bred Israelis - Olim. There are no records of significant Arab immigration into Palestine, so I suppose they must have arrived from out of space.

  • New additions to the Mondoweiss comments policy
    • Aside from Ron Paul, there's Scot Horton (wouldn't want to categorize his politics - libertarian?), many writers for the American Conservative: Phillip Geraldi; above mentioned Patrick Buchanan; and god bless google, who do we have here... why its this sites humble personage - Philip Weiss! I see there's already been some crossing off the divide, Mr Weiss is on the case.

Then there's Lew Rockwell: link to lewrockwell.com

I'd be interested to know of any more Conservative/Libertarian media outlets and personalities that give a fair voice to Palestinians, they need to be promoted as much as possible.

    • Just the facts... I think that this site may sometimes attract a certain 9/11 truther type, and some of them go way over the line. I've come across haters that still claim no Jews died on 9/11, when it is so ridiculous and has anyway been debunked over & over. Unfortunately, when discussing I/P, inevitably haters will use some articles as ammunition, will weave truth into their lies. Especially when its a Jewish voice - they think it gives them authenticity. Unfortunately there is a certain truth in the claim made by the Dersh, that criticism of Israel gives ammunition to haters. But that is no excuse to censor ones self, for fear of stoking a tiny minorities lies and hate.

So Newt Gingrich isn't welcome (I'm sure he's an avid fan), as denial of Palestinian existence is surely the same as Nakba denial. It's a prerequisite, there were no Palestinians to expel. btw, I've seen many 'conservatives' repeat this line, how has conservatism become so contaminated? Seems like true Conservatives e.g. Pat Buchanan, are wary of foreign ventures, influence, and should be all for Palestinian self determination / liberty. I hope Mondoweiss will promote those Conservatives voicing opposition to war w/ Iran, those few that speak out on Palestinian rights. Those of a Conservative persuasion need to hear dissenting voices from their own ranks, preaching to the choir can get you only so far.

  • Bombshell: Israeli intelligence posed as CIA to recruit terror group for covert war on Iran
    • Do you think the Israelis are crazy enough to believe that a 'limited targeted attack on military targets' would have no Iranian civilian casualties? Any attack on civilian nuclear power installations is a terrorist attack, never mind the 'collateral damage'.

Your question should be - do you think Iran is likely to stoop to Israels level, respond in kind by attacking Israeli civilians. I hope they'd retain the moral high ground. It can be argued that Israel is already at war with Iran and if they strike Iran, thats an act of war. Iran would have a right to strike back. btw, I'm sure plenty of brave souls will volunteer to be human shields.

    • Perhaps Israel has signed US/Iranian Amir Mirzaei Hekmatis death warrant. Of course Iran will be ultimately responsible if they carry out the death sentence, but there's bound to be blow back from Mossad posing as Americans? Same as using European, Australian passports for their dirty work in Dubai. These actions put 'allied' lives at risk, never mind the wider Palestinian injustices. The Muslim world has enough justifiable grievance to aim at the US/UK. Israel continually provides more and more ammunition. They seem to purposefully blur the lines between Israeli and Western covert actions. These days MI6 claims not to engage in direct assassinations; the CIA has its quasi-military drone program, JSOC kill & capture missions, and probably supports all kinds of violent non-state actors, but to direct individual targeted assassinations, on a developed countries (even Iran) civilians, just doesn't sound like the CIA's MO. Admittedly its hard to know the true MO of secret services, but ever since the drubbing the 'rogue elephant' got in the Church Committee hearings, they seem to have resolved never to be humiliated like that again through reckless Castro-style plots. 9/11 may have provided the pretext to take off the gloves in the 'war on terror', but dealing with nations is very different. The CIA is also more transparent than most of their counterparts, including MI6. More likely to try and pay off a scientist, offer him/her the American Dream. How long will the West continue to carry Israels water? I'm sure there is plenty of disquiet from Western Civil Servants - diplomatic, military, intelligence - unfortunately politicians wont listen, they cant see past the next election. I cant see a UN resolution condemning these terrorist actions, as Iran rightly demands. Israel is a rogue elephant rampaging out of control.

  • Ron Paul on Israel
    • Paul has said the least possible, casting his isolationist, libertarian stance, as good for Israel. The fact he's the only one against war with Iran, and is not revelling in the Iranian scientists serial killings a la Sanitorum (link to bit.ly
among other things, means he is an enemy of the Israel lobby. As much as some Zionists will claim they dont want American aid, they'd rather cut the weak reigns that keep them, at least cosmetically, on a path to peace, Pauls stance on stopping aid also makes him an enemy. He should stop the pretence, start speaking up for Palestinian liberty

  • Ron Paul's antiwar position is simpleminded
  • Weiner's progressive defenders blind themselves to the rightwing views that may now ensure his survival
    • Maybe, but there is one precedent - Chris Lee (R NY) - much milder shirtless photograph. Although, surprise surprise, he was just as 'aligned' as the rest of his colleagues - "I appreciated the opportunity to meet with members from the Orthodox Union and discuss a number of important issues facing Israel and persons of Jewish faith, including our shared desire to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran." Didn't save him. Maybe it was because his stomping ground was Craiglist (eew) not Twitter - increasing the seediness. His apology sounds familiar: “I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents.... I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness". And talking of apologies, I think I should follow these fine mens example - I sincerely apologise for being a racist, I hadn't realised until now, but isn't everyone - even just a little bit.

    • I think its mildly disgusting the support he is getting. In the street, this sort of thing is called flashing, and to a young women half his age. The sheer gall of thinking he can get away with it, a la Spitzer, shows he is a psychopath like most politicians, especially the kind that sell their soul to AIPAC.

A non-aligned WASP would be out on his/her ear faster than you can say Twitter

  • Obama's overflowing 'love' for Ireland shows up his rage toward Israel/the lobby
    • I think Mr O'Weiss is getting a bit carried away. O'Bama displayed much more enthusiasm for his own words, than he did when espousing his unshakable commitment to the Jewish State, but rage? anger?

AIPAC = more than anything, internal US real politiking, while his Ireland jolly combined pleasure with business. I mean who wouldn't enjoy a few pints of Guiness in an Irish pub, over an annual allegiance test.

I havent seen any rage from Obama, not against Netanyahu, not against the organisation that humiliates and degrades US politicians, whether they realise it or not. I know he's a great actor, but in the absence of actions, at this stage, words would speak louder than nothing. Unless the writer has mind reading abilities, I fail to see how he can justify the word rage or anger. If he was that angry, he would stray from the norm. Obama has forked tongue. He tailors his message through nuance and emphasis, depending on his audience and he ends up pleasing neither.

What would it take for the US to call out Israel, genocide? 13 peaceful Nakba demonstrators killed, not a whimper. American citizen murdered on the flotilla - nothing, etc, etc

  • Palestinian children betrayed by aid agencies
    • The perpetuation of the "they're going to wipe us all out" narrative is ridiculous. Its possibly understandable for the generation after WWII, but even then, American Jews have had no reason to fear wiping out anymore than say Catholic Americans. This narrative goes all the way back to the Torah and so every real or mythical discrimination since has been recorded, embellished and passed down. No American or Britain has any reason to fear being wiped out, its high time this delusion ended.

  • Why does U.S. soccer fall short?
    • Oh yeah, and now the USA is out, I hope all Americans are supporting your former colonial masters, your brothers in arms, your number 1 coalition partner. The country that gifted BP to your shores, whose bankers joined with yours in raping 'small people' the world over. No? all right, at least against Germany?

    • One of the reasons is that popular American sports are made for TV or have been heavily adapted for Americas commercial channels. Games are split up into periods no longer than, say 12- 15 minutes (I think). Football, rugby, cricket have long periods of play, not conducive to TV advertising and therefore not popular with networks. British commercial channels show 2 uninterupted halves (45 minutes each) of live football, unheard of in the US. Less TV= less money and development compared to other professional US sports. I think this is changing now though with the number of sports channels and bigger teams.

  • Israeli expo in NYC markets penthouses in settlements
    • It always saddens me that you cant have a heated debate about the rights and wrongs of modern day Israel without being branded an anti- semite because you dont know the ins and outs of Jewish history. It means that the majority of young people who have been to British state schools are by definition anti- semitic if they critiscse Israel, as their education was so crap. Maybe your asking for trouble if you use common parlance historical phrases, metaphors, analogies, like Judas= traitor; or if you yourself bring up historic events, but honestly. Many Israeli's take it as a given that the rest of the world believes in their manifest destiny or at the least respects it more than say, scientology? Many also assume that Jews should always be pitied for the horrors they have suffered, or those horrors should at least be factored in to modern events, when new generations see them getting on quite nicely, thank you very much. Another thing that cheapens the debate is resorting to 'grassing' people up to moderators, taking photographs of demonstrators and organised letter writing/ fake grass root campains and vilifications. Sorry in advance if I have offended any sensibilities, no doubt I've slipped up somewhere and will get reported.

  • I remember the real reason I hate soccer-- the power issues
    • I think sending off's should only occur when a player has either committed a professional foul- i.e. deliberately committing a foul to prevent the other side scoring- or has seriously, purposefully injured someone. The South African example should have been a penalty only. Many decisions are subjective, refs can have an almost impossible job, not helped by players that will quite happily dive- fake it. Englands first games ref has been branded a scoundrel and a cheat with no shame- in his own country, I thought he did a good job. link to guardian.co.uk

  • Jews in recovery (or why liberal American Jews might help to imagine a binational future)
    • Yoav Shamir's documentary, Defamation, was on British TV last night. Shamir, an Israeli, got a lot of access to the ADL and Abe Foxman, who seemed to have a bit of trouble finding a recent case of antisemitism for him to cover (some of the ADL's examples of 'modern' antisemitism were stretching it). The American ADL members, in fact everyone he speaks to, are very honest with sometimes hillarious and politically incorrect results. There are interviews with some of the usual suspects- Walt & Mearsheimer, Norman Finklestein, but what was most shocking was seeing an Israeli 'psychologist' preparing a group of Israeli teens for their trip (pilgrimage?, not sure of correct term) to Poland to see the camps by telling them that the whole world despises them. The kids are warned not to speak to any locals and when a pair of local old Polish geezers, sitting on a bench, enquire where a couple of the girls are from, or try to through the language barrier, the girls immediately assume they are being targetted by antsemites and are rightly outraged. These kids have been conditioned to believe that they are despised, not just by 'Arabs', but by every country in the world (Venezuela is especially hatefull say the ADL) and this conditioning seems to be a deliberate Israeli policy. Some of the kids seem to recognise that this focus on antisemitism could numb them to others suffering. Many of the adults recognise that it has gone too far and words like Nazi, antisemitism, Holocaust are being diluted by such regular and often synical use.

Anyway, I didn't mean to write a review, I just cant recommend it enough. Heres a link to Channel 4's on demand service: link to channel4.com

  • the reluctant radical
    • Sorry if this has already been linked. A very intelligent, if rather long and academic, analysis by Saree Makdisi of Zionist 'excavating of memory', especially with reference to Jerusalems 'Museum of Tolerance' (built on an ancient Palestinian graveyard). If nothing else, chapter 11 and 12 are very intelligent, contrasting Liebermans honest racism and main stream Zionisms 'denial of denial' of the other:
      link to fora.tv
Also includes Anthony Loewenstein. I wish the language of occupation and racism was decoded more often.

Respect to all the marchers, at least they can say they got off their arses and made their voice heard over all the propaganda. Egypts complicity is sickening, if not surprising.
