    • "Alexander (Alex) Ryvchin (born 18 July 1983) is an Australian Jewish writer, advocate, commentator, and lawyer. He was born in Kiev, Ukraine and migrated to Australia as a refugee.[1] He practised law at Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Sydney and Herbert Smith in London before serving as a spokesman for the Zionist Federation UK and being awarded an Israel Research Fellowship.[2] His writing on the Arab–Israeli conflict and Jewish history has been published in numerous international newspapers, including The Australian,[3] The Sydney Morning Herald,[4] The Guardian,[5] The National Post (Canada),[6] and The Jerusalem Post.[7] Ryvchin is a regular columnist for The Spectator.[8]

Ryvchin is the author of the book, "The Anti-Israel Agenda - inside the political war on the Jewish State" (Gefen Publishing House, 2017), a collaborative work with other prominent thinkers on the Israel-Palestinian conflict including Alan Dershowitz, Colonel Richard Kemp, Hillel Neuer and Professor Alan Johnson.[9]"

Jacko , you must be joking.

Ryvchin is a former spokesman or the zionist federation of the UK.
Dershowitz is a media hack and a zionist apologist whose book , "the case for Israel " was shown for what it is , an exercise in plagiarism.Finkelstein produced evidence of the word for word inclusion sections of Joan Peters book , "since time immemorial " , it self an exercise in fantasy and fake history.

Colonel Kemp is a paid spokesperson who sold his soul to the highest bidder.

Is this the best you can do.

Btw , this is the same source you used for your response to me upthread.

Do you really believe that we believe these lying toads.

    • Jacko.I now recall pointing out to you that the link you provided made no such claim as shown in your above post.i asked why you keep posting the same lies and who is feeding them to you.
I received no reply and here you are again posting the same lie just a week later.

Doesn.t it bother you being shown up as a serial liar.

    • Jacko. You posted this same trollope on oct 26th.It didn.t work then and it wont work this time.

Why do you keep posting the same bs on a weekly basis .Is that all hasbara central has to offer.

    • Seems to me this is somewhere between erroneous and untruthful.YF

" The elections were held in 2006 and the siege began after Hamas violently ejected the PLO from the Gaza strip exerting sole control over the strip due to their military actions, not as the duly elected Palestine Authority Legislative representatives but due to their military actions."

Here is how wikipedia reports it in summary:

" When Hamas won the Palestinian legislative election, 2006, Palestinian political party Fatah refused to join the proposed coalition, until a short-lived unity government agreement was brokered by Saudi Arabia. When this collapsed under joint Israeli and United States pressure, the Palestinian Authority instituted a non-Hamas government in the West Bank while Hamas formed a government on its own in Gaza.[23] Further economic sanctions were imposed by Israel and the European Quartet against Hamas. A brief civil war between the two groups had broken out in Gaza when, apparently under a U.S.-backed plan, Fatah contested Hamas’s administration. Hamas emerged the victor and expelled Fatah-allied officials and members of the PA’s security apparatus from the Strip,[24][25] and has remained the sole governing power in Gaza since that date."

Yonah , you erroneously and untruthfully forgot to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

      "Israeli obstruction

In the lead-up to the elections, Israel launched on 26 September 2005 a campaign of arrest against PLC members. 450 members of Hamas were detained, mostly involved in the 2006 PLC elections. The majority of them were kept in administrative detention for different periods.[16] In the election period, 15 PLC members were captured and held as political prisoners.[17]

During the elections, the Israeli authorities banned the candidates from holding election campaigns inside Jerusalem. Rallies and public meetings were prohibited. Also, the Jerusalem identity cards of some PLC members were revoked.[18] The Carter Center, which monitored the elections, criticised the detentions of persons who "are guilty of nothing more than winning a parliamentary seat in an open and honest election".[19]"

    • "Amigo, very funny, “Shakespeare was quoting Shylock”.jon s

Not nearly as funny as your original claim.

Author,s do not always express their own views through those of the characters in their plays. The Bard is no different and thankfully so.

What is really funny , or should I say , sad , is to see you scraping the bottom of the keg , looking for any residual sediment that might aid your fictitious claim of Jewish Nationhood.

    • "if only Jews came and settled there in sufficient numbers." jackduh

If I steal it . will they come.

      Correction !!.

      People hate alternate facts.

    • "Even Shakespeare referred to the Jews as a nation:". Jon S

Nonsense --Shakespeare was quoting Shylock, who thought, he was part of a nation.

In any event , Shakespeare was a lush.He was "Bard" from every inn , in Stratford -on -Avon and most of Warwickshire.

  • May, Netanyahu celebrate Balfour while Palestinian politicians call for UK to apologize, recognize Palestinian state
    • Let,s hope and pray that May,s government will fall and Jeremy Corbyn will occupy (no pun intended) number 10. I predict , one of his first acts will be to apologize to the Palestinian people and recognise their state. The House of commons can follow suit shortly afterwards.

So far the defence minister has resigned and there are (based on some reports ) an additional 35 Conservative Pols suspected of sexual harassment acts.Conversely , there are 5 Labour Pols in the same boat. One can see which camp would be most affected by a clear out .In an election , Labour would gain an additional 10 to 20 seats and that would would put the Conservatives out of the game and their DUP partners.

"Tory aides have compiled a list of three dozen Conservative MPs accused of inappropriate behaviour including being “handsy at parties”, it has been claimed.

The list, contained in a spreadsheet, reportedly names 20 ministers among those at whom the claims are levelled".

      http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/36-conservative-mps-spreadsheet-named-inappropriate-behaviour-sexual-harassment-westminster-a8026581.html

Labour pols are not entirely off the hook but the numbers are far lower in their case. Some 5 mp,s are under investigation..

This site is about Palestinian self determination which is what you oppose. If you wish to discuss Kurdish self determination , I am pretty sure there are hundreds of sites available on the web.Perhaps you can spend sometime demanding self determination for Kurds instead of opposing self determination for Palestinians here. Post a link or two and we can follow your progress.

    • " I’ve never been able to understand why western leftists have so much trouble just accepting that Israelis aren’t westerners."jeffy boy

Hmmmm, better tell that to them. They are the ones claiming , Israel is a western style democracy and society.Must be all those blonde , blue eyed Israelis of european descent who so desperately wish to be part of the EU .

Btw, I am sure circa 20% of Israelis don,t view themselves as Westerners but they don,t exist in your narrative , do they jeffy boy.

    • "Hannah Arendt and Albert Einstein weren’t Israelis" jeffy boy

Wait a minute. Didn,t you claim that ALL Jews are responsible for what Israel does, ergo their opinion must matter.

But not in jeffy boy,s selective zionist mind.Do I detect a fissure in the Tribal unity.

I stopped reading the rest of your post at that point.I find hypocracy a terrible bore .

    • "You still have state supported church schools. The constitution may forbid but that’s still an established church".jeffy boy

70% of school buildings are the property of religious orders--a result of British invaders policies of denying the Catholic Population spaces where they could get an education. The Catholic orders provided both schools and teachers and filled this need.

The Gov helps to maintain these properties from the religious orders in return for the right to use them as places of education.and is negotiating to buy some or all .In the meantime , the owners ( the religious) will not allow their property to be used as places of education if they do not have some input as to what is taught.. Hence , ending this arrangement is a long process , but it is being resolved.

As Ireland has become a secular and more democratic nation , where , for example , civil Marriages and divorces are available --unlike Israel --and same sex marriage are allowed--again unlike Israel---.The church in Ireland has no say in such matters so it is not the official state church or religion.

Israel on the other hand is going backwards where religious freaks --usually settler extremists have taken over the army and the Government which is unable to control the illegal squatters who are turning Israel into a nation based on religious laws and beliefs.

Don,t lecture me about not being finished and no , it is not an established church.

    • "One can support Catholic control of the education system, support the church’s influence or oppose either of those things without ceasing to be a supporter of the Irish Republic"jeffy boy

If you are the former, then you do not support the "Democratic Irish Republic."

Jeffy boy , Ireland is in no way like the zionist entity which breaks the laws of man ---even those not yet envisaged

"Let’s pick another example to make this easier. Ireland has for the last 150 years been slowly weakening their state church. " jeffyboy.

Good for us.Israelis ought to give it a try.

"The Irish constitution forbids ,, "Religion
Main article: Fifth Amendment of the Constitution of Ireland

The Constitution guarantees freedom of worship, and forbids the state from creating an established church. "

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Ireland#Religion

So your analogy is as usual full of zionist gobshite .Stay out of Irish history jeffy boy.

      "
      Laws about Catholic Education.

In the 17th Century new laws were passed in Ireland. They were known as the 'Penal Laws'. They came into force during the reign of King William of Orange who had been victorious over the Catholic King James the 11th at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.

The penal laws of 1695 made strict laws against Catholics because the rulers of Ireland at the time were afraid that they would become too powerful and rebel. Below are some examples if penal laws.

No Catholic could become a teacher.

To overcome this law, some Catholic school masters worked as under-masters in Protestant schools. A new law was brought out forbidding this in 1709.

It was illegal to send Catholic children to school.

It was hoped that by having no Catholic schoolmasters there would be no Catholic schools set up and that Catholics would send their children to Protestant schools which the government preferred.

It was hoped that children attending these schools would learn to be loyal to the crown of England, would learn the English language and would adopt the Protestant faith.

      Penal Laws repealed.

The penal laws were repealed in 1782 but many parents still continued to send their children to hedge schools up until about the 1840's. After the end of the penal laws these schools did not have to be such temporary dwellings in hedges. Some hedge schools were also in places like cowhouses, mud cabins and some were built of sods by the parents of the children. They were often damp and wet."

“The police opened a robbery case for one young person I worked with even though there was proof that he was not there,” Birsaw told The Times of Israel. “Then the police kept showing up out of the blue at his home to arrest him. The incident was not isolated and the past several days have seen years of frustration over lack of opportunities and charges of institutionalized discrimination across Israeli life boil into the open, climaxing Sunday night in an intense protest in central Tel Aviv that descended into a violent clash with police.

The protests were touched off by a video of a black Israeli soldier being beaten by police, but while the trigger for the protests was the attack, the demonstrators say they were brought into the streets by pervasive racism and discrimination resulting from their ongoing segregation from general Israeli society."

    • "Education system
Jewish and Arab teachers at Hand in Hand, a network of bilingual schools that aims to promote coexistence between the Arab and Jewish populations of Israel
      See also: Education in Israel

Israel is a signatory of the Convention against Discrimination in Education, and ratified it in 1961. The convention has the status of law in Israeli courts.[32] Israeli Pupils’ Rights Law of 2000 prohibits discrimination of students for sectarian reasons in admission to or expulsion from educational institutions, in establishment of separate educational curricula or holding of separate classes in the same educational institution.[33]

According to a 2001 report by Human Rights Watch, Israel's school systems for Arab and Jewish children are separate and have unequal conditions to the disadvantage of the Arab children who make up one quarter of all students. Israeli law does not prohibit Palestinian Arab parents from enrolling their children in Jewish schools, but in practice, very few Palestinian Arab parents do so.[32][34] The report stated that "Government-run Arab schools are a world apart from government-run Jewish schools. In virtually every respect, Palestinian Arab children get an education inferior to that of Jewish children, and their relatively poor performance in school reflects this."[35][36][37] In 1999, in an attempt to close the gap between Arab and Jewish education sectors, the Education Minister of Israel announced an affirmative action policy which promised that Arabs would be granted 25% of the education budget, proportionally more funding than their 18% of the population, and supported the creation of an Arab academic college.[38]"

Note , it never happened but the following did !!.

"A 2009 study from the Hebrew University's School of Education demonstrated that the Israeli Education Ministry's budget for special assistance to students from low socioeconomic backgrounds "severely" discriminated against Arabs. The study found that because there were more needy Arab students, but fewer Arab students overall, educationally needy Jewish students receive anywhere from 3.8 to 6.9 times as much funding as equally needy Arab students. The Education Ministry said in response to the report that a decision has already been made to abandon this allocation method.[39] The Follow-Up Committee for Arab Education notes that the Israeli government spends an average of $192 per year on each Arab student compared to $1,100 per Jewish student."

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_Israel#Polls

Sure , no racism in Israel. To suggest that the "Chosen people are not keeping their Promise to that Real Estate mogul in the sky , to be a light unto the nations , is a blood libel .Why , everyone knows that the chosen people are as pure as the driven snow and unlike Goyim , they do not need a place called hell.

    • "The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) published reports documenting racism in Israel, and the 2007 report suggested that anti-Arab racism in the country was increasing. One analysis of the report summarized it thus: "Over two-thirds Israeli teens believe Arabs to be less intelligent, uncultured and violent. Over a third of Israeli teens fear Arabs all together....The report becomes even grimmer, citing the ACRI's racism poll, taken in March 2007, in which 50% of Israelis taking part said they would not live in the same building as Arabs, will not befriend, or let their children befriend Arabs and would not let Arabs into their homes."[15] The 2008 report from ACRI says the trend of increasing racism is continuing.[16] An Israeli minister charged the poll as biased and not credible.[17] The Israeli government spokesman responded that the Israeli government was "committed to fighting racism whenever it raises it ugly head and is committed to full equality to all Israeli citizens, irrespective of ethnicity, creed or background, as defined by our declaration of independence".[17] Isi Leibler of the Jerusalem Center for Public affairs argues that Israeli Jews are troubled by "increasingly hostile, even treasonable outbursts by Israeli Arabs against the state" while it is at war with neighboring countries,[18]

Another 2007 report, by the Center Against Racism, also found hostility against Arabs was on the rise. Among its findings it reported that 75% of Israeli Jews don't approve of Arabs and Jews sharing apartment buildings; that over half of Jews wouldn't want to have an Arab boss and that marrying an Arab amounts to "national treason"; and that 55% of the sample thought Arabs should be kept separate from Jews in entertainment sites. Half wanted the Israeli government to encourage Israeli Arabs to emigrate. About 40% believed Arab citizens should have their voting rights removed.[19]

A March 2010 poll by Tel Aviv University found that 49.5% of Israeli Jewish high school students believe Israeli Arabs should not be entitled to the same rights as Jews in Israel. 56% believe Arabs should not be eligible to the Knesset, the Israeli parliament.[20]

An October 2010 poll by the Dahaf polling agency found that 36% of Israeli Jews favor eliminating voting rights for non-Jews.[21] In recent polling (2003–2009) between 42% and 56% of Israelis agreed that "Israeli Arabs suffer from discrimination as opposed to Jewish citizens;" 80% of Israeli Arabs agreed with that statement in 2009.[22]

A 2012 poll revealed widespread support among Israeli Jews for discrimination against Israeli Arabs.[23]"

"For the last 25 years, Israel has imposed increasingly strict restrictions on travel to and from the Gaza Strip. Those restrictions affect nearly every aspect of life in Gaza, including the ability of human rights workers to document violations of human rights and international humanitarian law (IHL) and to advocate for their remediation. While Israel makes exceptions to its travel ban for what it calls humanitarian reasons, as a rule, it does not permit Palestinian, Israeli and foreign staff of human rights organizations to enter or leave Gaza. Israel controls Gaza’s airspace and territorial waters and has prevented the operation of an airport or seaport for the past two decades, rendering Palestinians in Gaza dependent on foreign ports to travel abroad. It also severely restricts all travel between Gaza and the West Bank, recognized as a single territorial unit, even when the transit does not take place via Israeli territory."

    • More on the myth that Israel seeks peace and is willing to recognise the right of Palestinians to self determination.

"Netanyahu likes the status quo. His coalition includes those, like Minister Naftali Bennett, who want formal annexation of the majority of the West Bank. But all the Labor Party is offering by way of an alternative is an Israeli-defined “separation” plan that smacks of a “smarter” version of apartheid.

In other words, none of the Israeli political parties who are either part of the current ruling coalition, or who could feasibly lead an alternative one, support a solution based on international law and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, sovereignty, and return."

  • Occupation, in the details (Part II)
    • Settler Violence in Numbers: 1 January – 1 April 2015

Settler violence constitutes harm perpetrated against Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories by Israeli settlers. The Palestine Center has been diligently recording settler violence on a daily basis since 2004. From the start of January 2015 alone, we have found that there were:

      79 assaults on Palestinians, including:
      7 targeted hit-and-run attacks – including 5 children ages 5-16
42 assaults that required hospitalization as they were “victims of beatings with sticks, iron pipes and knives” and occasionally, gunfire and Molotov cocktails
11 instances of settlers opening fire indiscriminately into crowds
      5 attempted kidnappings of children
59 intrusions and assaults on Al-Aqsa mosque during times of worship
73 instances of destruction of property, including:
7,475 olive trees uprooted and destroyed
32 acres of private land leveled and destroyed
poisoning, running over, or stealing of livestock
48 instances of raids on homes and agricultural land

Since January 1, 2015, there have been 228 instances of some type of settler violence against Palestinians. This averages out to around 2.5 forms of aggression every day. A daily account of settler violence as well as military violence, raids, and detentions can be found here.

In response to these attacks, the Israeli military and police forces have done very little to curb settler violence against Palestinians. The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reported that only around 8.5 percent of investigations are brought to indictment, whereas around 85 percent of investigations are closed due to some type of “internal police error.”

"NAZARETH // The contents of a secretly recorded video threaten to gravely embarrass not only Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister but also the US administration of Barack Obama. The film was shot, apparently without Mr Netanyahu's knowledge, nine years ago, when the government of Ariel Sharon had started reinvading the main cities of the West Bank to crush Palestinian resistance in the early stages of the second intifada. At the time Mr Netanyahu had taken a short break from politics but was soon to join Mr Sharon's government as finance minister. On a visit to a home in the settlement of Ofra in the West Bank to pay condolences to the family of a man killed in a Palestinian shooting attack, he makes a series of unguarded admissions about his first period as prime minister, from 1996 to 1999. Seated on a sofa in the house, he tells the family that he deceived the US president of the time, Bill Clinton, into believing he was helping implement the Oslo accords, the US-sponsored peace process between Israel and the Palestinians, by making minor withdrawals from the West Bank while actually entrenching the occupation. He boasts that he thereby destroyed the Oslo process."

    • "Israel,s currency is lies and propaganda but it is being devalued everyday.

"Middle East peacemaking has been smothered in deceptive euphemisms, so let me state bluntly that each of these claims is a lie. Israel, not Hamas, violated the truce: Hamas undertook to stop firing rockets into Israel; in return, Israel was to ease its throttlehold on Gaza. In fact, during the truce, it tightened it further. This was confirmed not only by every neutral international observer and NGO on the scene but by Brigadier General (Res.) Shmuel Zakai, a former commander of the IDF’s Gaza Division. In an interview in Ha’aretz on 22 December, he accused Israel’s government of having made a ‘central error’ during the tahdiyeh, the six-month period of relative truce, by failing ‘to take advantage of the calm to improve, rather than markedly worsen, the economic plight of the Palestinians of the Strip … When you create a tahdiyeh, and the economic pressure on the Strip continues,’ General Zakai said, ‘it is obvious that Hamas will try to reach an improved tahdiyeh, and that their way to achieve this is resumed Qassam fire … You cannot just land blows, leave the Palestinians in Gaza in the economic distress they’re in, and expect that Hamas will just sit around and do nothing.’

The truce, which began in June last year and was due for renewal in December, required both parties to refrain from violent action against the other. Hamas had to cease its rocket assaults and prevent the firing of rockets by other groups such as Islamic Jihad (even Israel’s intelligence agencies acknowledged this had been implemented with surprising effectiveness), and Israel had to put a stop to its targeted assassinations and military incursions. This understanding was seriously violated on 4 November, when the IDF entered Gaza and killed six members of Hamas. Hamas responded by launching Qassam rockets and Grad missiles. Even so, it offered to extend the truce, but only on condition that Israel ended its blockade. Israel refused. It could have met its obligation to protect its citizens by agreeing to ease the blockade, but it didn’t even try. It cannot be said that Israel launched its assault to protect its citizens from rockets. It did so to protect its right to continue the strangulation of Gaza’s population.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that Hamas declared an end to suicide bombings and rocket fire when it decided to join the Palestinian political process, and largely stuck to it for more than a year. Bush publicly welcomed that decision, citing it as an example of the success of his campaign for democracy in the Middle East. (He had no other success to point to.) When Hamas unexpectedly won the election, Israel and the US immediately sought to delegitimise the result and embraced Mahmoud Abbas, the head of Fatah, who until then had been dismissed by Israel’s leaders as a ‘plucked chicken’. They armed and trained his security forces to overthrow Hamas; and when Hamas – brutally, to be sure – pre-empted this violent attempt to reverse the result of the first honest democratic election in the modern Middle East, Israel and the Bush administration imposed the blockade."

Trust jackduh to come up with a dud.

      This should be noted!!!.

"The history of the Jews in Ireland extends back nearly a thousand years. Although the Jewish community has always been small in numbers (not exceeding 5,500 by religion since at least 1891), it is well established and has generally been well-accepted into Irish life. Jews in Ireland have historically enjoyed a relative tolerance that was largely absent elsewhere in Europe."

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_Ireland

"Jews were certainly living in Ireland long before Oliver Cromwell in 1657 revoked the English Edict of Expulsion. A permanent settlement of Jews was definitely established in the late fifteenth century. Following their expulsion from Portugal in 1497, some of these Sephardic Jews settled on Ireland's south coast. One of them, William Annyas, was elected mayor of Youghal, County Cork, in 1555. Francis Annyas (Ãnes), was a three-time Mayor of Youghal in 1569, 1576 and 1581.[5] Ireland's first synagogue was founded in 1660 near Dublin Castle. A plot of land was acquired in 1718[6] as a burial ground, called Ballybough Cemetery, it was the first Jewish cemetery. It is situated in the Fairview district of Dublin, where there was a small Jewish colony.[7]"

Their desendants are todays Loyalist community in Northern Ireland whose bellicose Leader , one , Ian Paisley stated that Northern Ireland was A Protestant Country for a Protestant People (sound familiar). In any event that wet dream ended in a somewhat less satisfying climax for Mr Paisley and his colonialist brotherhood.

"Opinion Were Jews Ever Really Slaves in Egypt, or Is Passover a Myth?

Where is the real proof - archaeological evidence, state records and primary sources?

Here's a question for you: what do actor Charlton Heston, DreamWorks animation studios and Former Prime Minister Menachem Begin all have in common? Well, they've all, at one time or another, perpetuated the myth that the Jews built the pyramids. And it is a myth, make no mistake. Even if we take the earliest possible date for Jewish slavery that the Bible suggests, the Jews were enslaved in Egypt a good three hundred years after the 1750 B.C. completion date of the pyramids. That is, of course, if they were ever slaves in Egypt at all.

We are so quick to point out the obvious lies about Jews and Israel that come out in Egypt – the Sinai Governors claims that the Mossad released a shark into the Red Sea to kill Egyptians, or, as I once read in a newspaper whilst on holiday in Cairo, the tale of the magnetic belt buckles that Jews were selling cheap in Egypt that would sterilize men on contact – yet we so rarely examine our own misconceptions about the nature of our history with the Egyptian nation.

  • Israeli plan to 'transfer' 300,000 Palestinians to West Bank is new normal -- Zoabi
    • "Opinion In Israel's Eyes, No Palestinian Struggle Is Legitimate

Palestinians who oppose violent struggle champion diplomacy. But in Israel these days, that's also considered terror.

A headline in Haaretz on Wednesday reported that President Trump told the secretary general of the United Nations that Benjamin Netanyahu was more difficult to deal with on the peace process than Mahmoud Abbas. That’s can’t be true. Our Netanyahu? Bibi? More difficult than Abbas? There must be some mistake. After all, Netanyahu is dying to make peace. Year after year he has stood on the podium at the United Nations and declared, as clear as penguin black and white: “The people of Israel pray for peace,” and “I am still committed to the vision of peace.”

It’s just that “there’s no partner,” because “we’re surrounded by wild animals,” because Abbas doesn’t represent the whole Palestinian people, because they’re not ready for democracy, look what’s happening in Gaza. Did they seize the opportunity we gave them? Did they build a port there, concentrate on fishing and make their living from tourism? If only they had the political acumen of Ben-Gurion. The day we give them the West Bank, “Hamastan” will be established there.

When the Palestinian Authority “unilaterally” joined Interpol – that is, without the Israeli master’s consent – it was framed here as a “diplomatic defeat” on the right, and, shockingly, in the center and the left as well. What reason in the world could there be for people who support the establishment of a Palestinian state to thwart construction of infrastructure and democratic institutions on the Palestinian side?

The minister for environmental protection, who is also minster of Jerusalem affairs, Zeev Elkin, said that “Israel cannot show restraint in the diplomatic war that the Palestinian Authority leadership is waging against us.” Begging your pardon, Elkin, but what does “diplomatic war” mean? The sick logic that has seeped through Israeli political discourse has enabled the appearance of oxymorons like “diplomatic war” and “diplomatic terror.” Diplomacy, after all, is the polar opposite of terror. Those who oppose violent struggle – that is, terror – champion diplomacy. But in Israel, that is also considered terror these days. So what the blazes do Israelis consider legitimate struggle? According to that same superficiality of metaphor with which the concept of terror is treated, we can call what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians “logical terror”: Palestine is not qualified for membership in Interpol because it is not a state, and we’ll never let you be a state."

Mazel tov, Mr. Trump! To be honest, we were not as surprised as you were to discover that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the more difficult side to persuade with regard to a peace agreement, as reported Wednesday in Haaretz by Barak Ravid from seven Western and Israeli sources who asked not to be named. The sources noted that in Trump’s meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the day after he met with Netanyahu in New York, the president said that not only was he determined to advance a peace deal, “he had made many difficult deals, but he’d always heard that the hardest deal of all was Israeli-Palestinian peace,” and he wanted to try to meet this challenge.

How then will Trump do the impossible, bring the two sides to the table and overcome the obstacles that no one before him has been able to overcome? According to the diplomatic sources, Trump believes that while Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is advanced in age and faces internal political difficulties, he wants to leave a legacy behind. And Netanyahu, for his part, understands that he’ll never have a president more understanding of Israel’s security needs than Trump. And as noted, the president, who is no doubt an experienced businessman (although it’s entirely unclear how successful), has made his assessment of profit and loss for both sides and reached the conclusion that one side, the Palestinian side, wants to leave an agreement to his people as part of his legacy, while the other will come to the table because he has been compelled to.

It seems that never before has this been said so expressly: Netanyahu doesn’t want to reach a peace agreement. It’s no news to anyone that he is unenthusiastic, mounts difficulties, is a procrastinator and knuckles under to pressure. But we all live in the generalized and empty belief that as a people and a nation we turn aside from evil, as the Psalm says, and do good, that we seek peace and pursue it. This is so deeply embedded in our souls, and such an important part of our existence, that even the most extreme right-wingers will insist on calling themselves peace-seekers. That is the reason that Ehud Barak’s statement at the time that there is “no partner” had such a deep impact. Supposedly the nature of the real problem was finally clear.

And so there’s something sobering in this particular wording of Trump’s, something that could surprise even Netanyahu’s voters, who live with the illusion that while there is no one to talk to, on their side at least there’s the will.

Well, there isn’t. Not at all. Netanyahu is the one who doesn’t want a peace agreement, because he believes it isn’t necessary."

    • "Editorial Trump Exposed Not Abbas, but Netanyahu as the Peace Rejectionist

While the Palestinians are cooperating with Egypt on reconciliation, the Israelis continue to play the same broken record and refuse to give change a real chance .

Sissi has long been determined to jump-start the peace process. But it seems that as Trump saw, there is no serious partner on the Israeli side. Last year Sissi met secretly with Netanyahu and opposition chairman MK Isaac Herzog, after which the two Israeli politicians held talks on a unity government. Everyone remembers how the “talks” ended: a sharp right turn by Netanyahu and the appointment of Avigdor Lieberman as defense minister.

In light of the seriousness shown by Sissi, and the first fruits his efforts have borne, the response of the Israeli government is shameful: “We will not accept any fake reconciliations,” Netanyahu said disparagingly of the PA-Hamas meeting in Gaza, as if Israel does not use the Palestinian rift to undermine Abbas’ legitimacy. Netanyahu then presented a list of conditions; only if these were met would he be satisfied. Education Minister Naftali Bennett also called for the transfer of funds to the Palestinians to be stopped.

While the Palestinians are cooperating with Egypt on reconciliation – which, if it succeeds, would be enormously significant to the Palestinian leadership and the future of Gaza, where living conditions are almost unfit for human beings, and help renew the peace process – the Israelis continue to play the same broken record and refuse to give change a real chance."

  • Moshe Machover and the battle for the soul of British Labour
  • As battle rages in UK Labour Party, Moshe Machover expelled after asserting 'Anti-Zionism does not equal anti-Semitism'
    • Bad news for the "LFI " (Labour Party Friends of Israel).

"Israel lobby complaints about an Al Jazeera English documentary were rejected on all counts by the UK’s broadcasting regulator on Monday.

Ofcom ruled that January’s four-part investigation The Lobby was factually accurate, correctly observed rules on fairness, impartiality and privacy, and was not anti-Semitic.

After the news broke, the satellite channel’s Investigative Unit revealed that it will soon be broadcasting an undercover investigation of the Israel lobby in the United States.

Clayton Swisher, Al Jazeera’s director of investigative journalism, told the network’s Arabic channel on Monday that the documentary had been held back pending the outcome of the Ofcom investigation.

Swisher said he was announcing for the first time that “at the same time we had an undercover [reporter] in Britain, we also had an undercover in the United States.”

      More from the article!!.

"The UK documentary in January exposed the activities of Israeli embassy officer Shai Masot, and his efforts to influence political groups in the UK.

He had plotted to “take down” senior government minister Alan Duncan, and worked with pro-Israel lawmakers in the Labour Party who exaggerated and faked anti-Semitism in the party, amid plots and coup attempts against leader Jeremy Corbyn – long a Palestine solidarity activist.

As a result of the film, Masot was removed from his position as senior political officer and sent back to Israel. Israeli ambassador Mark Regev was forced to make an apology to the UK government.

A British civil servant who was recorded with Masot plotting “a little scandal” for Duncan was made to resign.

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn called for a government investigation into the issues raised by the program.

Ofcom ruled on Monday that allegations of anti-Semitism against the program were false."

    • "Enjoy your fantasy of Corbyn’s victory" jeffyboy.

No fantasy at all jeffyboy. What with the conservative party in shambles due to internal strife, lack of progress on Brexit negotiations and heading for another election , corbyn,s chances are considerably enhanced.

When he gets in , one of his first tasks will be to rid the Labour party of the traitorous Labour friends of Israel .Each and every one of those zionist loving miscreants.

"Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn received his longest and loudest standing ovation at his party’s conference when he called for an “end to the oppression of the Palestinian people” and Israel’s “50-year occupation and illegal settlement expansion.”

This was just one of the ways popular support for Palestinian rights was highly visible at the main UK opposition party’s annual gathering last week.

After some uncertainty last year, when Corbyn spoke at a Labour Friends of Israel reception, the Labour leader appeared to be more confident on the question of Palestine.

Corbyn’s better than expected performance in June’s general election fell just short of making him prime minister, but it did consolidate his control of the Labour Party leadership.

Left-wing magazine Red Pepper reported a new spirit of democratic debate at the conference, and clear signs that “the left has emphatically won Labour’s civil war.”

The other major arrival on the scene at this year’s conference was Jewish Voice for Labour, the new organization which opposes “attempts to widen the definition of anti-Semitism beyond its meaning of hostility towards or discrimination against Jews as Jews.”

The launch of the group was a direct challenge to the Jewish Labour Movement, a pro-Israel organization which has played a key role in a witch hunt aiming to misrepresent the Labour Party as “institutionally anti-Semitic.”

While the Israeli embassy’s allies at the conference were no doubt silently fuming, the mood among delegates was unmistakable – for Palestinian freedom and against Israeli occupation.

Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi, a veteran Palestine campaigner and a leading member of Jewish Voice for Labour, also received a standing ovation"

    • "The USA isn’t hostile to Jewish interests"jeffyboy

Better tell that to Nietandyahoo. He claims Jews interests are best served in Israel and they are only safe in Israel .Sounds as if he sees the USA as hostile to the interests of Jews.

"The Israeli prime minister has repeatedly called on all Jews to come to Israel, claiming it as the only safe haven from an immutable global anti-semitism. And yet, Mr Netanyahu is also introducing a political test before he opens the door.

Jews supporting a boycott of Israel are already barred. Now, liberal Jews and critics of the occupation like Mr Soros are increasingly not welcome either. Israel is rapidly redefining the extent of the sanctuary it offers – for Jewish supremacists only.

The paradox may turn out to be more apparent than real, however. For Mr Netanyahu may believe he has much to gain by abandoning liberal Jews to their fate, as the alt-right asserts its power in western capitals.

The “white Zionists” are committed to making life ever harder for minorities in the West in a bid to be rid of them. Sooner or later, on Mr Netanyahu’s logic, liberal Jews will face a reckoning. They will have to accept that Israel’s ultra-nationalists were right all along, and that Israel is their only sanctuary.

Guided by this cynical convergence of interests, Jewish and white supremacists are counting on a revival of anti-Semitism that will benefit them both."

"Take a look at Amigo’s response. He clearly indicates the point is to use the 2nd to accomplish the same goals as the 1st. " jeffyboy

I don,t speak for BDS or Jeremy Corbyn.I simply gave you my opinion.

No surprise, you use every opportunity to put words in the mouths of others.

Btw, if you are so concerned about your "Kid" how come you spend so much time here and on other sites .On second thoughts , it is probably to his benefit that he spends as little time as possible under your supervision.

We don,t want a JeffB -Jnr showing up here.

    • Say jeffyboy , shouldn,t you be over at 972 spouting your racist antisemitic trope (equating all Jews with Zionism) in your usual abundant and unfettered MO.

      https://972mag.com/autonomy-for-palestinians-in-israel-is-as-relevant-as-ever/126827/

Btw , I hate Zionism ,just as I hate fascism and Nazi ism and white supremacism et al bigotted ideologies.

I never mentioned hatred of Jews. That is your fall back position when you have run out of credible responses. It is way past time for your expulsion from MW.

    • "I don’t think you’ll be successful but I have no doubt about the intentions of people like you towards me, my kid, my future grandchildren… No doubt at all about what you want to achieve" jeffyboy

What I want to achieve is equal rights and justice for "The Palestinian Father and his kid and future Grandchildren" whose land has been stolen from him by your 650,000 illegal squatters/thieves .Corbyn does not call for their expulsion but I see no problem sending these criminals back to wherever they crawled out from.As to what happens to their children, that is the responsibility of their parents who should have thought more clearly before they brought their offspring onto someone else,s land .

You are a vacuous self serving racist bigot Jeff B.I sincerely hope you do not instill your ideologies and hatred into your Kid.He has my sympathy .

I ask again , if you are so completely dedicated to the (Rogue) state of Israel , then why do you not go live there and get your family out of harms way in the US , which is hostile to Jewish interests.

    • The Jews living in their homes in the UK are not illegal squatters like those living on stolen Palestinian lands in OCCUPIED PALESTINE. They need to be "repatriated" to whence they came. That is a normal response to people who steal from others.Nothing to do with them being Jews.

Jeremy Corbyn will take the reigns of Power in the UK and Freedland and all the other Israel first traitors and zionist trouble makers will be put in their place and none too soon. The world will be a far better place when the scourge of Zionism is neutralised and it,s adherents have been sent to the back of the class .You should look impressive sporting a dunces cap jeffyboy.

Jeff B , thou dost protest too much.

Indeed Kaisa , but I was placing it in the context of jackos breakdown.Wouldn,t want befuddle him any further than he already is.

Btw, we Irish would have not viewed the British as good guy,s for many reasons.but that is mostly over now.

    • "Actually that map is outdated by about 600 years, it shows the estates in 1450. The point was to show the extent of the family’s wealth."

You might want to check the details before you reach back 600 years to back up your reconnaissance into the myth of Antisemtism.

"The seventh Duke of Leinster, Edward FitzGerald, lost Carton House and ended up in a one-room Westminster flat where he died in 1976. Eamon Delaney on a fascinating book about Ireland's premier aristocratic family.

In the space of just 70 years, the Dukes of Leinster fell from being Ireland's leading aristocratic family, close friends of the British monarchy, secure within the world's most powerful empire, to relative obscurity in an independent Ireland that did not recognise titles.

When this book opens in 1872, the 3rd Duke of Leinster was residing in the Palladian grandeur of Kildare's Carton House. But by 1976, just over a century later, the disgraced 7th Duke, Edward FitzGerald, had lost Carton and everything else that remained and would die that year impoverished in a one-room bedsit flat in London."

As to your insult regarding "Popery" I will overlook that as Ireland is a secular nation .We managed to rid ourselves of the yoke of religious interference in our daily lives.I would suggest Israel adopt the same policy.

IE , We Pope-ists dont have to travel to another country to get a have a civil marriage or a divorce.

On the issue of the British Monarchies claim to Ireland--that ended in the treaty of 1921 and the Republic left the Common Wealth in 1949---see Republic of Ireland act 1948.

Britain is now begging us not to erect a Hard Border between the Republic and Northern Ireland.Oh how the mighty fall.Beware Israel

The only Duke to gain respect in Ireland was John Wayne and perhaps to a lesser extent , Duke Ellington.

    • As we all seem to be focusing on Jewish despair--how about we focus on what is real time despair of the Palestinian people.I am sure neither part of the show they have been watching for 7 decades has any happy moments for them albeit , they are all memorable.

    • jeffy boy, the Gov of the republic of Ireland does not recognise "Peers of The Realm".Your map is somewhat outdated --by about 100 years.

We have no Barons,Dukes or Marquis. The only official title awarded in Ireland is that of "Count" , a title given to the late great John Mc Cormack , the famous Irish tenor. We are a republic and don,t do the Monarchy thing.

Most of those people you listed left or were kicked out of Ireland long ago for their long history as agents of the British Empire and being cruel Landlords.

    • "Do you “favor” partitioning Israel to allow for the Palestinian Arabs between the ” River and Sea”? If so can you outline the geography and governance arising from your”favored” partition."0ssinev to jacko.3,37 pm yesterday.

    • "From 2004 to 2014, these attacks have killed 27 Israeli civilians, 5 foreign nationals, 5 IDF soldiers, and at least 11 Palestinians[5] and injured more than 1900 people,[citation needed] "

Jacko , Citation needed means "This claim needs references to reliable sources ".Check your link.

To quote your new found friend---nice try but No dice--or words to that effect.

"In World War 2, around 7 million Germans were killed,
but only 419,000 Americans were killed.
Does that mean that the Germans were the good guys & the Americans were the bad guys" jacko.

Actually , the Russians / French/British/ et al were the good guys.

The Germans were the bad guys because they attacked and occupied other nations and murdered their citizens.

      Get the point jacko.

    • "By defining the terms in a way supportive of western values you are putting Israeli at a disadvantage. " jeffyboy

Wait a minute --doesn,t Israel want to be seen as a "Western Style Democracy".

Better get with the plan jeffyboy. We in the west are fully behind the separation of Church and State. The only people putting Israel at a disadvantage are the zionist congregation and it,s supporters.A collective cultural and societal death wish.

      Go figure.
