He’s not a politician. He’s a diplomat and a military officer.

Phil:
What have you lost? Was it worth keeping? Is your loss just or unjust?
The man and his crew presented themselves as CBC journalists. This was clearly a lie. See Ali Abunimah's report on his interactions with Mr. Himel. link to electronicintifada.net
On Tuesday, Andrew Sullivan declared that he would stand up for anyone who is smeared or silenced because they speak up about Israel's occupation.

Just a week ago, progressive and liberal bloggers were tripping over themselves to defend people at the Center for American Progress from unfair accusations of anti-semitism.
For PennBDS, a university professor has singled out Jewish students and called them kapos. This is an attempt to silence non-violent solidarity organizing. Where is Andrew Sullivan? Where are the liberal bloggers?
Any serious journalist would look at the dossier provided by the ADL and want to verify the authenticity of the statements and ask for a response from the person being smeared.
It's sad that Jewish community media is the primary outlet for these attacks, because it shows the journalistic standards are simply non-existant on this issue. The ADL is apparently exploiting this weakness to disseminate false information through Jewish community media.
Yes. Ali Abunimah called them. https://twitter.com/#!/AliAbunimah/status/160453738270691328
Reminder that you can type Barack Obama and the name of so many mass murdering war criminals into Google Image Search and find horrifying photos of them smiling and shaking hands.

Racist, sexist, homophobic principles don't greatly distinguish the presidential candidates, but style and culpability for murder do.
I'm not interested in seeing Ron Paul be president. I'm interested in seeing him oppose Barack Obama. I want neither of them to be president.
I hope video surfaces. If I'm understanding the description correctly, Besbes stood still as Mills struck her five times so she could win. Then Mills collapsed in tears! This could be quite a powerful image.

Can anyone confirm the real life existence of these people? The emphasis appears to be on the word "real," which of course, makes me have doubts.
The Electronic Intifada has identified the company behind the film: Zed Films. Writer and actor also named. See link to electronicintifada.net
Are you the same Scott Long who is accused of creating the fictitious internet persona "Zayed Salloum?" link to mpetrelis.blogspot.com
He was bullied as a child and became a powerful player in government as an adult, so we should excuse his (unmentioned) dehumanizing racism against Palestinians. This is great reporting from The Forward?
Does he mean that the conversation should include Palestinians? Or just more Jews?
This American Life's Christmas special may also validate your participation, Phil. link to thisamericanlife.org
No wonder it costs so much money to oppose BDS.
Better Place builds infrastructure in the illegal Israeli settlements, and James Wolfensohn is one of their big investors. See link to electronicintifada.net

I should have added specifically this item, linked from the original. link to hypatia.ca
I won't debate sexual consent here. It's a basic human decency and understanding issue. The information from the bail hearing explains the specific complaints: not stopping when told to stop, using force, and sex with an unconscious person. These are the charges Assange has to answer, and the toxic rape culture engages in apology for him and slut-shaming, victim-blaming. Photos, address and phone numbers of the women have been leaked on the internet with specific incitement to violence. The media has deliberately misrepresented the situation and Wikileaks supporters have bought into the rock star persona of Assange and conflated him with the mission.
I only bring this stuff here because the reaction to Naomi Wolf's misinformed article has been mixed, and the basis for attacking the alleged victims is this misinformation if not outright malice.
sorry annie. "not wearing condoms" is a matter of consent. if i consent to sex with a condom, and then you are not wearing a condom, i have not consented to sex. read the article.
Umm.. no. Naomi Wolf has "bravely" alienated her allies by maligning women who complain of sexual assault, diminishing their rights and misrepresenting their situation.
Please see other awesome feminists like Liz Henry who have made really compelling arguments in favor of wikileaks while also standing up for the right of women to consent to sex.
If it's the same Jeff Shapiro, google "jeff shapiro san antonio" reveals that he teaches 7th graders at Temple Beth-El and is the chair of the Federation's San Antonio Association for Jewish Education.
Israel and its apologists love to attack Lebanon and Syria because Palestinian refugees there are deprived of some basic rights, citizenship. But who has the most Palestinian refugees under its control? And who deprives them of citizenship and rights?
The Chronicle of Higher Education published an article about this topic last week. It's behind a pay wall but I helpfully reposted it. link to bangpound.posterous.com
As a Chicagoan, I'm very glad that Lake Michigan is vital to the national security of the United States and is protected by ... 1 Navy base? And maybe 1 major Coast Guard base?
How many bases are on the Persian Gulf? There's probably about a dozen.
This strikes me as dangerously naive.
People born in a country have a right to live there. People born in a country which was created through violence and colonialism have a duty to decolonize. But it's still their home! I'm sure that if Israelis value their privilege more than their homes, they might escape to the places of their ancestral origin if they can secure another passport. But Jewish Arabs are unlikely to return to Iraq or Morocco, and their children born in Israel shouldn't be victims of another unjust population exchange.
Moreover, Palestinian identity is not a commodity. It's not something you can put on and take off. "Oh I am in solidarity with Palestinians, therefore I am Palestinian." For an Israeli to take up this line is the essence of colonialism not solidarity.
Here's a bit more context. The link Phil posted to the Twitter list is mine. It's not any official New America Foundation list. I first learned of the trip from Matt Yglesias' blog, and he identifies all the participants. link to yglesias.thinkprogress.org
As far as I can see, the New America Foundation has not made any official peep about this trip.
(in his best slashdot meme voice) “You must be new here.”
It's insincere and even threatening. They're "warning the Israelis" that if they don't act, democracy and equality will be the only option. What near-sighted leaders.
it's an elite school for elite ideas. why shouldn't he be at harvard?
see Beneath the Ivy, a Legacy of Chains.
But the poll only surveyed Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, and most Palestinians do not live in those places.
It's pretty transparent. A film festival is supposed to exhibit new films, and the only current film in this lineup is Eyes Wide Open. SFJFF should have some better standards than this... people don't attend film festivals to watch stale overplayed films that came out 8 years ago! (Yossi & Jagger)
I don't understand you. Copti is his family name. link to imdb.com
