  • Jolly Christmas: BBC celebrates 'return' of a 'lost tribe of Israel' -- and not a word about Palestinians' right
    • There is a petition "The BBC Trust: Hold a Public Inquiry into Pro-Israeli Bias" which currently has 7852 signatures. Does the BBC report objectively or does it skew its reports with political bias? The debate has simmered for years, why not push for a proper investigation? It would be a challenge to get it right, but it could be worth the effort. Ask for an inquiry--our media, our responsibility. link to change.org

  • Why I joined Mondoweiss
    • Welcome, Scott! I appreciate your sharing your motivations in furthering your role with Mondoweiss. I imagine it mirrors the sentiments of many of us around the world who read Mondoweiss commentary, no matter our religions.

    • Adam, great explanation on Citizen's query. I think that you've captured the idea that there is actually a dialogue/debate in the UK. While it can be argued that "Friends of Israel" has tremendous influence over British government officials, for example, there are also "Friends of Palestine" who counter-balance. (Citizen: these are under various parties, Labour, Lib Dem, Conservative--just google them. National Archives also offer loads of heated debates in Parliament history). So too go the ngo's. Neither "side" is viewed as the norm; they are each different opinions, both getting a voice. It seems that in America the pro-Israeli/Zionist perspective is the default mode, and that pro-Palestine is seen as merely opposition to the norm. What we hear from America is not much of a dialogue, but a lot of shouting and back-room deals....

  • Update: Israeli Military deploys Patriot missiles in Haifa, Israeli warplanes stage mock raids over southern Lebanon, break sound barrier
    • Well said, Walid. And if you stayed tuned to Amr Nassef after, there was the graphic re-enactment of how it happened.

    • Not sure why--try http://www.friendsoflebanon.org and follow link to FB.

    • Thanks for that, Walid. For all of us internationals out here, that is Thursday 20:30 pm (17:30 GMT) on Al-Manar TV --which you can watch online. For non-Arabic speakers, Press TV usually runs simultaneous English translation online. Getting input directly from the source is a good habit! We'd also welcome you all to our Friends of Lebanon FB page at link to facebook.com. We welcome constructive dialogue from all points of view.

    • It is worth considering this: on Monday 8th October UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon) stated specifically that NO DRONES WERE DETECTED coming from Lebanon. link to nna-leb.gov.lb UNIFIL also stated on Sunday 7th October (the day after the drone was shot down) that all has been so very calm at the Lebanon border link to dailystar.com.lb Yet the unidentified drone that was shot down Saturday the 6th at the southernmost corner of Israel, far away from that very calm northern border with Lebanon, that drone is now being labelled Hezbollah/Lebanese. The media persists in reporting such baseless speculation as the ABC News headline 'Israelis Deploy Patriot Missiles After 'Hezbollah' Drone Enters Airspace' (over 1000 articles and spreading). So neither UNIFIL nor Israeli forces nor Jordanian (Israeli-friendly) forces detected this drone en route the full length of Israel (not on or before this past weekend and of course the Mediterranean is monitored!)......doesn't this instant judgement defy common sense? QUESTION: If we take the word of a tweeting Israeli parliamentarian over the declaration of UNIFIL, then why the heck is UNIFIL in Lebanon anyway? If we don't trust UNIFIL to do their job in monitoring, then they shouldn't be tasked with being there. And please, enough of the indignation, Mr Ehud Barak--Israeli drones fly over Lebanon all the time, have for years--despite the lack of media attention it is common knowledge and well documented with the UN.

  • 'Goldstone Report will pale' next to damage we will do to Lebanon, says senior IDF official
    • The reality is that the threats have never stopped. The Winograd findings after the July War substantiated that aggression has always been on the table, that even as IDF left in May 2000 their bosses were planning how to strike again. With this latest threat, look to the statement "In the Goldstone Report, the community and the world tended to get confused and think that this can be done in a nicer way. It cannot be nice. Without the use of great force, we will find it difficult to achieve the aim." Answer what the 'aim' is and the puzzle is solved. We should note, too, that these bold threats launched into Israeli media have gone virtually ignored by major Western media outlets. Which begs the old question 'but if the shoe were on the other foot'.....

  • Israeli Interior Minister on African immigrants: 'Most of those people arriving here are Muslims who think the country doesn't belong to us, the white man'
    • Caught this article in the newsletter and had to take it further than a comment space would allow--you'll find 'The White Supremacy of Zionism' here link to friendsoflebanon.org Thanks for keeping the pressure on a practice that is surely no good for anyone.
