"...Lap dogs in the US Senate have signed onto this bill..."
OK, Except that the bill also would allow for weapon storage in Israel and comprehensive strategic military accommodation to the US. Sounds like a clear military and economic alliance.
No room for "pets" in that agreement.
We all know that The 1967 cease fire line is usually thought of as Israel's formal border, but being as there has never yet been a formal defined "Palestine," the lines are still considered "in dispute" going back to the British partition proposal after the Treaty of St. Remo around 1920, plus the 1947 UN declaration. Of course the hardest line PalArabs and their supporters still demand "River to to the Sea" plus the extinction of the state of Israel and most of its current inhabitants, for peace.
But for the purpose of this discussion & the turning around of undesirable foreigners hostile to Israel, Ben Gurion Airport is universally accepted as one of the key border points of Israel.
This is silly. Every country has the right to refuse entry to suspected foreign troublemakers. It's also kinder to simply turn the suspected person(s) around rather than put them through detention and deportation proceedings. MOST countries in the world, ie: China, Russia, Mexico treat suspected spies and saboteurs at their borders MUCH more severely than Israel. I'm going to guess that the writer's real point is that Israel; should have no right to control its own borders, or indeed..have borders or sovereignty at all.
This is one of the most reassuring things that I have ever read here on Mondo. It reaffirms the fact that there is a wide concern not just about all this highly synchronized Jew hatred churned out by various radical groups, but that there is a very definitive cult-like terror aspect as well. One of the most common cries we hear on campus these days is "Palestine will be free from the river to the sea!" There can be no illusion what this represents, and it sure ISN'T a 2 state solution!
Just another publicity stunt. And not even a very good one. Jews are forbidden to enter most Arab countries on pain of death. Obviously there were too many instances of "Palestinians" abusing family reunification in the past to cause security problems... so that's that. Their spousal unit can always leave Israel and go to live in the West Bank or Gaza with their beloved.
The good news is that there are some changes going on in Israeli policy to make life just a little better for everyone.
First thing is a clear designation that both rock and molotov cocktail throwing are considered deadly force, whether done by grown up Arabs, international "peace activists" or as we have seen increasingly in the last 6 months... children.
Both Israeli civilians and military are being advised to respond with live ammunition fire, preferably to maim rather than kill, because then the wounded person is presumably going to need to be cared for, rather than simply buried, and not in Israeli medical facilities either. Of course a shoot-to-kill response to stone and firebomb throwing is fine too. That's what's done in other Arab countries, and if it's good enough for them, then it should be good enough for these "human rights activists" too.
I think that's fair.
Looks to me like a whole series of criminal charges are in order. Shoplifting, theft, vandalism of a business premises, preventing entry and exit....any arrests?
Pretty poor way to make your political point.
actually I think Greta Berlin's sentiments reflect the general attitude of pretty much everyone I've ever known who were involved with BDS, the Flotillas etc. It's all bogus, all the time in my view.
What a hero! Hey were you able to see the vapor trails of the missiles randomly launched at Israel 3 miles out from Gaza ?
You dorks must be kidding...
way worse than this.... link to atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com
Looks like these few fellows are really just looking to be martyrs. Especially as the deal has been done and everybody else just wants to put in their time and get this over with. Personally I think their effort is wasted and history won't remember them doing anything particularly great or emancipating.
Will their deaths free anybody? Probably not.
Would Hamas, Islamic Jihad etc. free anybody by actually deciding to live beside a Jewish state with negotiated borders?
I think so.
@ Sumud
That hysteria stuff's getting a little old, don't you think?
Though I suppose it's more dramatic if you have a handful of stones to throw and a burning tire around your neck. Otherwise the sheer idiotic hypocrisy of Queers beating Israel is head shaking.
VeteransToday? Ha Ha HA HA. They print anything. Holocaust denial, KKK rants, you name it.
If indeed Obama said such a thing as "giving the Israelis more attention now," I can really see why.
Everybody's more or less waiting for the Palestinians to come back to the table and actually negotiate a set of borders and the many other details that a real 2 state solution would require, but Abbas and company just won't make the move.
Not exactly unusual, because several time in the last many years, they'd been offered all kinds of proposals, but always run away, preferring I suppose to opt for "waiting people out," refusing to relinquish they're rejection of a majority Jewish state inside any borders.
So until that day happens, there's not much point in "chasing" after them.
But two other things are happening concurrently. The USA is revising its donation scenario that's been keeping this bloated UNRWA thing going. And the Israelis know that there's no point in waiting for the Palestinians to come around so they will keep on building...
If I was Mondoweiss then I wouldn't be exactly bursting my buttons at the coverage this received...because nearly every MSM I read describe Mondo as a more or less extremist blog that only props up one side of this Israel Palestine issue.
No. The reason this became a wider story is because it details the fact that Israel is using more and more sophisticated and contemporary methods to safeguard its national security. Which you can expect other countries take a lesson from..
Anyone who actually reads the story and looks up the actual character can quickly ascertain that were indeed misrepresenting themselves as "ordinary tourists."
If anything, it confirms again to a wider audience that all this Israel hate stuff and its proponents are basically fraudulent, racist, and more than occasionally violent.
One more thing. I see that the managers here are horrified to discover that to a wider audience, Mondo has again been typecast as just another pro terror regime mouthpiece. My question is why should they be surprised now?
@ Hasbara buster "... the MSM stories are painting Israel, not Mondoweiss, in a negative light. ...These two ladies clearly presented no risk at all to Israel’s security, but rather to its image. ..."
Nope, haven't seen that all, except for maybe the media out of Iran or something. Most folks understand the need for airport security and defensible borders.
So what do other countries do when they intercept suspected saboteurs, provocateurs or spies? In Iran, Syria, Myanmar, China, North Korea & many other places ... they are incarcerated, abused, tortured, starved, raped or simply disappear.
Israel quickly expelled these women without harming them.
Hello again. I see that some of you weren't pleased with my comment.
@Annie "...why, because they do not support apartheid? there are no palestinians who support the occupation and very likely no friends of palestinians who support the occupation...."
Hmmm. That's kind of interesting. There actually are a lot of Palestinian Arabs who would really just like to see an end to the occupation and walls and extraordinary security measures & are already working together with Israelis in a number of ways towards a more normal existence and an eventual 2 state solution. That includes the western supported Palestinian police force in the West Bank.
We all know that "apartheid" as Annie uses it doesn't really apply to Israel.
There are only 2 problems with this.
First, that Mondoweiss is nearly always described in the MSM as being virulently biased and anti-Israel and secondly, any kind of internet search quickly reveals that Najwa Doughman has a history as a BDS and anti-Israel student activist.
So what this means to me is that she and her friend have clearly lied about themselves to the airport and security authorities. Now that they've been deported as undesirable security threats they and their associates can expect future security problems in other places.
Finkelstein makes an interesting study for this issue, because few intellectual Jews have paid as high a price as he has for his views and activism against Israel. Years ago his "We are Hezbollah" nearly defined what being a self-hating Jew could be.
So that's what makes it a bit interesting to see that the Great Finkelstein has come around to realize that a one-state solution and an unlimited right of return are non-starters.
Which is only practical. In a way, he's doing the BDS cause a service by suggesting that the goals of eradicating Israel and killing all the Jews are just not going to be worth the attempt.
No. What's on the boards while the PA drags its feet and the Hamas takes Gaza back to the middle ages is going to be a complete re-definition of what a so-called Palestinian refugee really is. Effectively the appellation should only apply to direct survivors of the 1948 failed-war-of annihilation, and they number perhaps 30,000 or so today, nothing like the so-called 5,000,000 descendants waiting in the wings to overrun the Jewish state.
