I am an author who addresses contemporary issues by writing stories. I also do a little blogging on TPM. My first novel, Glass half-Full, utilizes a plot line (among several plot lines) pertaining to a vindictive antisemitic group that inflicts semiterrorist acts of violence in the Washington area. My second novel, Glass Chimera, deals with issues surrounding genetic manipulation. It is set in New Orleans, near my original hometown, Baton Rouge. While living in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina since 1980, my wife and I have raised three grown children. I am a Christian who has enjoyed visiting Israel, and hope to go again sometime, if somebody doesn't blow it off the map. I generally appreciate the Jewish emphases on family and culture passed from generation to generation. "Sunrise, sunset...", and admire the historic Jewish sensitivity to issues of of social justice. But I do see hypocrisy in the "apartheid" attitude that seems to define Israeli policy toward Palestinians. My ultimate hope for eretz Israel is that a two-state solution can be worked out. Wouldn't it be nice if the Israelis could collaborate with the Palestinians to administer the Temple Mound as a world shrine for peace. Pie in the sky, you say? I can dream can't I? Joseph did, and look where it got him, but it sure wasn't easy. Shalom.

As a native Louisianan who grew up near New Orleans, I appreciate your linking this timely issue to a great American who manifested a perfect balance between breaking American apartheid and personal success. What a great tribute to Mr. Armstrong.
I'm wondering if there is a Palestinian musician out there whose art and life can parallel Satchmo's unique contribution to the cause of human rights.
1.) I hope no one is able to reconstruct Tevya as a fantasy; this goy loves the guy and his family.
2.) What's the Solzhenitzyn book that's banned in the US, as if such a thing were possible?
Thanks, Phil, for revealing the contents of your heart in this one.
As a Christian who has stood on the Mount of Olives and looked out across the Kidron valley and Zion and west Jerusalem--as a gentile who has listened intently to live Bridge Ensemble klezmer music at the Odeonsplatz in Munich where the Nazis began their campaign of hate--I am very moved by what you have written. Thanks for sharing.
I pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
