Our World: Gingrich’s fresh hope
CAROLINE B. GLICK
12/12/2011
Gingrich's statement about the Palestinians was entirely accurate. That is, the Palestinian people were invented 91 years ago.
According to a 1937 report by the British Peel Commission (Palestine Betrayed, Prof. Efraim Karsh, Yale University Press, 2010, p. 12), “The increase in the Arab population is most marked in urban areas, affected by Jewish development. A comparison of the census returns in 1922 and 1931 shows that, six years ago, the increase percent in Haifa was 86, in Jaffa 62, in Jerusalem 37, while in purely Arab towns such as Nablus and Hebron it was only 7, and at Gaza there was a decrease of 2 percent.”
As a result of the substantial Arab immigration between 1880 and 1947– and despite Arab emigration caused by domestic chaos and intra-Arab violence - the Arab population of Jaffa, Haifa and Ramla grew 17-, 12- and five-fold, respectively.
The conquest by Egypt's Mohammed Ali between the years of 1831 and 1840 was solidified by a flow of Egyptian migrants settling empty spaces between Gaza and Tulkarem up to the Hula Valley. They followed in the footsteps of thousands of Egyptian draft dodgers, who fled Egypt before 1831 and settled in Acre. The British traveler, H.B. Tristram, identified, in his 1865 "The Land of Israel: A journal of travels in Palestine" (p. 495), Egyptian migrants in the Beit Shean Valley, Acre, Hadera, Netanya and Jaffa.
The British Palestine Exploration Fund documented that Egyptian neighborhoods proliferated in the Jaffa area: Saknet el-Mussariya, Abu Kebir, Abu Derwish, Sumeil, Sheikh Muwanis, Salame', Fejja, etc. In 1917, the Arabs of Jaffa represented at least 25 ethnic groups, including Persians, Afghanis, Hindus and Balochis. Hundreds of Egyptian families settled in Ara’ Arara’, Kafer Qassem, Taiyiba and Qalansawa.
Many of the Arabs who fled in 1948 reunited with their families in Egypt and other neighboring countries.
"30,000-36,000 Syrian migrants (Huranis) entered Palestine during the last few months alone," reported La Syrie daily on August 12, 1934. Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, the role model for Hamas' terrorism, which plagued Jews as early as in the time of British Mandate Palestine, was Syrian, as were Said el-A'az, a leader of the 1936-38 anti-Jewish pogroms and Kaukji, the commander-in-chief of the Arab mercenaries who terrorized Jews in the 1930s and 1940s.
Libyan migrants settled in Gedera, south of Tel Aviv. Algerian refugees (Mugrabis) escaped the French conquest of 1830 and settled in Safed (alongside Syrians and Jordanian Bedouins), Tiberias and other parts of the Galilee. Circassian refugees, fleeing Russian oppression (1878) and Muslims from Bosnia, Turkmenistan, and Yemen (1908) diversified the Arab demography west of the Jordan River.
Mark Twain wrote in Innocents Abroad (American Publishing Company, 1969): “Of all the lands there are for dismal scenery, Palestine must be the prince…. Palestine is desolate and unlovely.” Analyzing Mark Twain’s book, John Haynes Holmes, the pacifist Unitarian priest, cofounder of the American Civil Liberties Union and the author of "Palestine Today and Tomorrow – a Gentile’s Survey of Zionism" (McMillan, 1929) wrote: “This is the country to which the Jews have come to rebuild their ancient homeland…. On all the surface of this earth there is no home for the Jew save in the mountains and the well-springs of his ancient kingdom…. Everywhere else the Jew is in exile…. But, Palestine is his…. Scratch Palestine anywhere and you’ll find Israel…. [There exists] not a road, a spring, a mountain, a village, which does not awaken the name of some great [Jewish] king, or echo with the voice of some great [Jewish] prophet…. [The Jew] has a higher, nobler motive in Palestine than the economic…. This mission is to restore Zion; and Zion is Palestine.”
It should be noted, this same site promoted the Shlomo Sand lying book ‘The Invention of the Jewish People,’ reviewed by Jack Ross.
link to mondoweiss.net
The wretched scholarship of Sand’s post-Zionist inspired agitprop was condemned by historians and literary critics.
Leon Wieseltier, literary editor of The New Republic, characterized it as “intellectually worthless”.
Hillel Halkin called assertions made in the book “the exact opposite of the truth”.
Yaacov Lozowick’s review deconstructed Sand’s “astonishingly unconvincing scholarship”.
Jeffrey Goldberg argued that “Sand… is dropping manufactured facts into a world that in many cases is ready, willing, and happy to believe the absolute worst conspiracy theories about Jews and to use those conspiracy theories to justify physically hurting Jews.”
In a commentary published in Ha’aretz, Israel Bartal, dean of the humanities faculty of the Hebrew University, wrote that Sand’s claims about Zionist and contemporary Israeli historiography are baseless, calling the work “bizarre and incoherent,” and that Sand’s “…treatment of Jewish sources is embarrassing and humiliating.”
A review by CAMERA noted that “When it comes to undermining the legitimacy of the Jewish state, there is no thesis too absurd to be published, regardless of how preposterous the underlying thesis…Such is the case with The Invention of the Jewish People, a book by Shlomo Sand.”
Of course, Sand’s book did receive critical acclaim by anti-Zionists ideologically predisposed to such a deconstruction of Jewish identity, and therefore Jewish nationalism.
Why is Philip silent on the plight of the Coptics? Watch this testimony from a Coptic at the U.S congress.
If Philip would finally protest Arab aparthied, then the plight of the Copts would get better.

The Term Palestine is not named after the Palestinians.
Its the Roman name the Roman gave for Israel after they defeated Israel.
They gave the new name after the Philistines who were from Crete and not Arabs.
Who won the Elections in Egypt and Tunisa? Islamists.
Who won the election in Algeria, when they had an election? Islamists.
Then Weiss says, the complexities of the Arab Spring;
There are no complexities. Its jihadists taking over all these Arab spring countries and in Syria, you have a goverment thats killing thousands of its own people, which doesn't seem to bother Philip.
2nd, we find out last month, that Saeb Erekat confirmed Olmert had offered a final peace settlement that would include territorial concession equivalent to the entire West Bank and the division of Jerusalem.
The Palestinians also control 100% of Gaza.
Erekat also admitted the Jews only live on 1.1% of the West Bank.
link to haaretz.com
So it proves what lies Philip Weiss has said over the years that Israel never offered the Pals a state.
The problem is Palestinian Rejectionism.
So why did the Palestinians not respond to Olmert's offer?
All you have to do is go to Palmediawatch and see the Palestinians genocidal plans against Israel.
www.palwatch.org
Why dont Weiss see how the Palestinians glorify terrorists who massacre Israeli civilians, names streets after these terrorists and talk how Israel will be eliminated.
I guess talking about that dont fit Philip's radical agenda against Israel.
Having a conflict is a goldmine for the Pals. They been living on handouts for over 60 years.
They dont want to end the conflict, because they would have to take responsiblity of their people.

In fact, on the same day Arafat signed the Declaration of Principles on the White House lawn in 1993, he explained his actions on Jordan TV.
"Since we cannot defeat Israel in war, we do this in stages. We take any and every territory that we can of Palestine, and establish a sovereignty there, and we use it as a springboard to take more. When the time comes, we can get the Arab nations to join us for the final blow against Israel."
Citizen, you say this.
Meanwhile, on TV last night, I watched Michelle Bachmann tell the view that the I-P conflict boils down to bigotry reflected in Palestinian school books for children, which she saw when she visited Israel years ago. She summarized, that the problem is Palestinians teach hate.
This has been well known. Palmediawatch for years has documented the Palestinians hate campaign and glorification of terrorism against Israeli civilians and how Israel will be eliminated.
The problem is the Pals know the left will turn a blind eye to this.
Barghought supported and Eilat massacre and lies that soldiers were killed when it was Israeli civilians who were murdered.

Dr. Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary General of the 'National Initiative' movement, in PA TV telephone interview:
"Of course, there is the operation which took place in Eilat - that is true. This operation harmed soldiers and people from the Israeli army, and was not directed towards civilians."
Where are the articles about Kristen Luken, the American who was murdered by Palestinian killers in Israel.
Oh yeah i forgot, where not supposed to talk about that on here.
Everyone knows that the Palis are descendants of Ishmael... no, wait.. descendents of the Caananites..., hold on... no, the descendents of the Philistines! Yeah, that's the ticket!
The Palestinian Culture of Hate everyday supports terrorism against Israeli civilians, denies Jews have any link to Israel.
Palmediawatch closely monitors the messages to which Palestinians are repeatedly exposed by their broadcast and print media, their school textbooks and teachers, and their political and religious leaders. The composite content of these myriad messages is a horrifying testament to just how assiduously the PA has worked to turn the minds of Palestinians into reservoirs of venom.
But you wont hear one peep by Phil about this.

Opposing Arab colonialism and Muslim oppression of women and non-Muslims, and supporting the free and democratic state of Israel are progressive positions.
Inanna, its sad you support the Arabs who stole over 1 million Jewish holmes in the Arab countries and attacked Israel in 48 with the intentions of commiting a massacre against Jews.
Annie Robbins you own an apology to every foreign worker for trying to blame then for the Itamar massacre, when it was the Palestinians who did it.

The 1 state solution was tried by a Kurd named Saladin. Saladin won the wars but opposed a state for his people the Kurds, cause he wanted a 1 state solution with the Arabs, Turks and Iranians. How did that work out for the Kurds?
A few years ago, there was a play written by a Kurdish writer called “The Trial of Saladin.” In it Saladin is brought back from death to appear in a Kurdish court. Realising what the Arabs, Turks and Persians did to his people, he apologises to the Kurdish nation and commits suicide knowing he was responsible for all the Kurdish suffering by opposing a Kurdish state.
I guess you can say the 1 state solution didn't turn out to good for the Kurds?
Are you listening left wing Jews?

Annie, their is no occupation. It was never Pal land to begin with.
There was never any state called Palestine governed by Palestinians.
But lets take it from your point of view.
Last month Saeb Erekat confirmed Olmert had offered a final peace settlement in 08, that would include territorial concession equivalent to the entire West Bank and the division of Jerusalem.
The Palestinians also control 100% of Gaza.
Erekat also admitted the Europeans showed him maps that showed Jews only live on 1.5% of the West Bank. Yes, only 1.5% of the West Bank.
Which proves to any left wing person the only state the Palestinians want is Israels.

Fatah Recognizes Israel? Not According to PA
In more double talk from the Palestinian Authority, its ambassador to India says Fatah does not recognize Israel anymore than Hamas.
Elad Benari
12/2/2011
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party is generally seen as the more moderate of the Arab factions and is seen as a “partner for peace” with Israel.
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party is generally seen as the more moderate of the Arab factions and is seen as a “partner for peace” with Israel.
However, that notion may be completely off, according to comments recently made by the PA’s Ambassador to India, Adli Sadeq.
In an article he wrote in the official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, on November 26, Sadeq admitted that Fatah does not respect Israel anymore than Hamas does, and that moreover, the PA and Fatah utterly reject that Israel has any right to exist.
Sadeq’s comments were translated by the Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) research institute and presented on its website.
According to Sadeq, Israelis “have a common mistake, or misconception by which they fool themselves, assuming that Fatah accepts them and recognizes the right of their state to exist, and that it is Hamas alone that loathes them and does not recognize the right of this state to exist. They ignore the fact that this state, based on a fabricated [Zionist] enterprise, never had any shred of a right to exist...”

Its amazing the people who have been barred from this site cause Philip didn't like the fact they were Pro Israel, yet he allows hater mongers like yourstruly and lobewyper to post on here.
The Israel haters, do not like Jews, period. Not when they do something wrong but when Jews do anything at all, even when its hardly controversial, it arouses their ire. It is not this or that aspect of Israeli society they loathe, its the existence of Israel that offends them.
I will never understand why these leftists and gays support the Arabs.
It is the height of hypocrisy that they support societies that stand for everything that they claim to be against. Perhaps their hatred of Jews is greater than their love of 'human rights'.
Ms. Schulman should conduct an in-depth and comparative study of how lesbians fare in Gaza, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Egypt and Israel. After she dons her burqua and takes a walk on the wild side with some out-of-the-closet Arab lesbians (there are many, aren't there?) she can then compare how Israel treats its gay citizens, ARAB OR JEW to her experience in any of the aforementioned theocracies ruled by sharia law.... If she survives the stoning.

Since the patriarch of The New York Times, Arthur Hays Sulzberger, determined that his paper was going to lead the charge against Israel’s founding in 1948 (he was a charter member of the infamous American Council for Judaism, the group formed to oppose a Jewish state at the height of The Holocuast) the “grey lady” has maintained its anti-Zionist policy in reporting and, for the most part, in its editorials. Its agenda, cloaked in the familiar guise of “fair and objective reporting” even extended to downplaying The Holocaust while it was occurring. Laurel Leff chronicled the paper’s misdeeds in her widely acclaimed book, “Buried by the Times.”
The Times bias over the years has been expressed in its choice of reporters. Serge Schmemann, Chris Hedges, Deborah Sontag, Max Frankel, and now, Ethan Bronner have all shared the dominant NY Times hostility towards Israel and the concomitant sympathy for Palestinian Arabs. Bottom line: you don’t get hired by the Times’ Middle East bureau unless you share its anti-Israel positions. Bearing a Jewish name does not imply a pro-Israel point of view at the paper; as historically demonstrated, the opposite is the case. Such a case in point is the current lead reporter, Ethan Bronner. I recall asking him a question when he worked for the Times’ sister paper, The Boston Globe in 2000 when Pope John Paul II made his epic visit to Jerusalem. Sheikh Ekrama Sa’id Sabri, Arafat’s appointed Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, took the occasion to spew outrageous Holocaust denial sermons and statements. When I asked Bronner why he chose not to write about Sabri, he replied that the story wasn’t worth reporting since “everyone knew Sabri’s comments.” I then asked him why he didn’t report on these statements when they first occurred. Bronner declined to answer.
seanmcbride, Arthur Sulzberger/Arthur Sulzberger Jr were never for Israel.

Top Hamas official working on the Hamas-Fatah unity deal believes anyone negotiating with Jewish apes and pigs will burn in hell....
People on here dont mind Arab aparthied.
In his address at the UN General Assembly, Abbas denied that the Jews have any profound historic connection to the land of Israel. His repudiation of Israel’s most basic rights and Jewish identity coincides with his audacious racist insistence that the new Palestinian State should be Judenrein. He has argued that the Zionist movement fabricated the “six million” Jews being murdered and he financed the Munich massacre. But dont worry Arab aparthied is what the left loves.
Israel is defending itself against Pan-Arabism, Arab imperialism and Arabization of the Middle East. Just ask the Kurds, Coptics, Black Christians of Sudan, Berbers and Western Sahara about this.
The real problem is global Arab/Moslem insistence to spread hate, violence, wars, terrorism, lies, false accusations against Jews and reducing Jews to subhumans or second class citizens - slaves or servants - without any human rights, civil rights or national rights whatsoever.
Arab Jew hatred and Arab refusal to recognize our right to live and exist - they want to kill us and take our land through falsification of history and through terrorism and blackmail and threats.

Infact, their was a Jew who tried to return to Libya after Gaddafi was overthrown.
All the Jews were thrown out of Libya by Gaddafi after he took power.
David Gerbi who tried to move back to Libya once the Rebels overthrew Gaddafi's regime.
When Libyans found out Gerbi was trying to return to Libya, Libyan mobs threatened him that would kill him if he tried to live in Libya. Gerbi then went back to Italy. Even one Jew is to many for Libya. But ofcourse thats not aparthied.

Must see: Israel’s ambassador Ron Prosor’s UN speech
link to israelmatzav.blogspot.com
This is a must see. This is the speech given in the UN General Assembly on Tuesday by Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Ron Prosor. The occasion was the General Assembly’s annual bash Israel fest, which takes place every year on the anniversary of the UN resolution approving the partition of Britain’s Palestine Mandate in 1947.
As Ambassador Ron Prosor said, find me one Palestinian leader that wants 2 states for 2 people, instead of the Palestinians wanting 2 Pal states. There own state that is Jew free and to swamp Israel with millions of Arabs for the 2nd Pal state.
There is no Palestinian leader, cause the Pals want all of Israel.
The Jews’ willingness to compromise on territory was demonstrated not only by their acquiescence in the UN’s 1947 partition plan, which gave them a small state, but even by their earlier acceptance of the 1937 Peel Commission partition plan, which gave them nothing more than a part of the Galilee and a tiny strip along the coast. Yet the Arab nations, refusing to accept no Jewish sovereignty, even if it was the size of a postage stamp, unanimously rejected the 1937 Peel plan, and nine years later they violently rejected the UN’s partition plan as well.
They also rejected the peace offers in 2000 and 2008.
Taxi, if someone was firing thousands of missles at you, i dont think you would be to happy about that.
Taxi, the Arabs want the Jews to live but not ruling a sovereign country like Israel is today. Of course they would love to see the Jews as the dhimmi they were among the Arabs before 1948, paying taxes for not being Muslims and be like the Kurds, Coptics, Black Christians of Sudan and the Berbers today. 2nd class citizens stripped of any Judicial rights. That's the reason they won't distinguish Israel as a Jewish State.
We have heard Israeli leaders from the right and the left all admit that they are willing to make "painful compromises" in order to achieve true peace with the Arabs. We have not heard the Palestinian Arab leaders ever say that phrase. Asking their people to give anything up for peace is utterly foreign to them, so instead we will keep seeing stunts - stunts that prove that the Palestinian Arabs have never been serious about a peace agreement and that today's leadership is just as intransigent as Arafat was.
The post is about Iran. There are massive human rights abuses by the Mullahs, which doesn't seem to bother Annie.
annie, you didn't answer my question.
Why is Mousavi under house arrest in Iran?
Why are the Mullahs in Iran murdering gays for just being gay.
The way democracy works in Iran is, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei choses the candidates.
Its not a free system where anyone can run.
So Khamenei assumed Mousavi was a hardline islamist, and thats why he let him run. When Khameni realized Mousavi wasn't a hardline Islamist, he basically had him put under house arrest. Thats some democracy Iran has.
The Mullahs chose the candidates and if won wins that they dont like, they put him under house arrest.
Mir-Hossein Mousavi who won the Iranian elections in 2009 is under house arrest in Iran. Why is he under house arrest? I'v never heard of this, someone defeats Ahmadinejad in the elections is under house arrest.
