      Sometimes I think life in America, especially the suburban, middle class variety, is so bland and banal that some Jewish people cultivate all this paranoia in order to make their lives more dramatic and interesting.

      As a former painter, one who has worked for and in a major art gallery, the answer is "yes" gays are tribal. This is not a huge problem most of the times

      I think that you could have simultaneously anti-Muslim and Antisemitism outbreaks in the USA... Remember that this was Christianity's default position for centuries. If Israel starts a war in the Persian gulf and Americans cannot afford to put gas in their cars to go to work (if they still have a job) I can easily imagine Joe Sixpack hating both Muslims and Jews at the same time.

      Philip Weiss's wonderful blog is the most sensitively tuned of all the Internet to this potentially very destructive, but avoidable problem: the birth of a new and viral American antisemitism. That is why I read him all the time and have for years.

      Here is something I wish we could define as soon as possible to avoid painful misunderstandings: where is the dividing line, the frontier, where "Jew-fatigue" or "Jew-overload", becomes "antisemitism"? I say this because the majority of humanity suffers under a condition that I would call, "Asemitism", which could be simply defined as the state of "not being Jewish". This means that a certain point, with all the good will in the world, one simply gets a little tired of such a massive presence in one's daily life of a group of people one doesn't belong to, no matter how much one may initially like or admire that group.

      I would really like to open up a separate thread to discuss this more thoroughly.

      One of the best comments I have seen on this issue comes from one Snuffysmith over at Talking Points memo, I quote:

      Sanchez: Jews control the media
      Jews: No we don't. BTW, you're fired. LOL

      I think that sums the whole thing up pretty well.

      Well, of course not all Israeli Jews come from Europe: Yemen, Iran, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, all are represented there. In that sense what Thomas said was wrong.

      What worries me and what I think is the main issue here is this hysterical lynching of a much beloved old lady. It is so grotesque and ugly, that the people behind it must be completely out of touch with reality, completely self-referential and have no ability to see themselves as others see them.

      And that loss of perspective bodes ill for the future.

      My plan for solving Arizona AND the Middle East simultaneously

      My plan for bringing peace to the Middle East is quite simple.

      Most observers including most Israelis and an overwhelming majority of American Jews are in favor of the "Two State Solution": this would entail the creation of a sovereign, viable and contiguous Palestinian state whose boundaries would be the the 1967 frontiers with some "adjustments".

      The principal obstacle to a Two State Solution are the Jewish "settlers" on the land which would comprise the bulk of the Palestinian state; land which the settlers refer to as "Judea and Samaria" and which they view as an essential piece of "Eretz Yisrael Ha-Shlema" or "greater Israel".

      It is said that any attempt to remove them by force from their settlements in order to create a sovereign, viable and contiguous Palestinian state might very well tear Israel apart by causing a mutiny in the Israel Defense Force, 30% of whose officers are said to be religious conservatives who support the settler movement.

      Now it appears that many if not most of these settlers are American citizens. This is the key to my plan. (Read More)

  • Israel lobby bares its teeth

      I have always thought that it was a mistake to try to go forward simultaneously on the ME and health care.

      It seems to me that there was some chance of getting health care, but it would have been almost impossible to get anything done with the Netanyahu (or any other Israeli) government and certainly to try to do so would only gain the hostility of AIPAC, which would probably otherwise have been indifferent or even sympathetic to health care.

      Obviously AIPAC objective is to weaken Obama, therefore by obstructing health care they can achieve that or maybe even trade their future support for health care for an attack on Iran.

      I think all of this shows an enormous lack of strategic sense on Obama's part. It appears that running for president is not a preparation for the presidency.

      It would have been nice to have had health care, I have little hope of ever seeing peace in the Middle East.

      I've always thought that world's greatest public relations job in the world has been to convince Americans that they like Israelis... in fact they are like oil and water.

      Actually, I see a positive side to the enormous power of Jews in America infotainment industry and the Lobby's power to neutralize congress.

      Normally, historically, over centuries, a depression like recession in the midst of two losing wars would simply be blamed on the Jews and a pogrom would ensue and then it would be business as usual.

      Since Jewish people are not really responsible for all of this but have just been using the system, like skillful sailors use the wind, this would mean that the root cause (the system itself) would never stand revealed.

      However, today's Jewish power means that the simple expedient of blaming everything on the Jews is not available, so we actually get to the bottom of all of this finally.

      Certainly Jewish people have often been used as cat's paw to pull the chestnuts of the powerful out of the fire. The kings of Spain, Ferdinand and Isabel, for example, tried to avoid the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492 as they were so useful to them, collecting taxes and so forth, but finally they were forced to -- much against their will -- by popular demand.

      Modern DNA testing has proven that most of the Spanish Jews converted to Christianity rather than leave. The Spanish inquisition that followed was so savage because their was a much doubt that these conversions were sincere... Spain is still suffering the consequences of all of this.

      Nobody is against Jewish people having a monopoly of Kosher delicatessens, for example.

      The question is really not if Jewish people have a great influence in the infotainment industry, that is obvious. The question is whether we are satisfied with that industry, whether they are giving us true information or agitprop. Are we being manipulated against our own interests? Is this having a harmful effect on the broader interests of America and its people... on the world at large?

      I'll be turning 65 on Wednesday and I never thought I'd live to see Jews turn into fascist bully boys. I think this amazement that I feel is the moving force behind MondoWeiss; it certainly is what moves me to come here to read and to comment.
