The purge took many forms and not only in releasing employees or closing down departments and reducing funding. "Suicides" were high. Look it up.
My father worked in the Truman administration. My Uncle for State. My uncle died with a bullet to his head on December 24th. at a US military facility in Kansas in the 1950's. He had four very small children. Before the war, he was a consular attache to the Ottoman terrories before WW II. Upon his return he was supported to do a PHd. at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Princeton. We think his thesis subject (that US support of the establishment of a Zionist State would not be in the long term interest of the Unite States) killed him.
I am sorry to post this.
Huffpost is now a worthless news aggregator based on depraved sensationalism. That is the model.
Valuable commentary is leaving fast. Bloggers other than tripes (my made up word) and trolls are the only ones left
Is that media value?
A very very creepy bunch that has nothing at all to do with so-called American values.
Yes, facebook is another creepy enterprise.
And do not forget that the State Dept. internet freedom initiative is a tied into Narus, which is now owned by Boeing and started by Ori Cohen, and other Israeli internet security experts.
We are all watched and screwed.
Who said Jews cannot live in live in a setting Jews only! Or Jews who are the majority?
No one anywhere or ever said that.
In fact there are many of such settings for those who seek jewish exclusivity, if that is what one wants.
Did I hit a nerve?
Well....yes. Your scenario is based on the realities of human nature. But I have hope, otherwise I do not know if I could get up in the morning.
One hope is this: That honest and smart non-brainwashed voices within the Jewish communities will stopped being snuffed out. More and more Jews are getting sick of the Israel Idolatry around them.
There was this interesting commentary recently written by Allan C. Brownfeld
Israel Is Not the Homeland of American Jews
"Sadly, because the organized American Jewish community has embraced the philosophy of Zionism, which holds that the State of Israel is indeed the “homeland” of all Jews, and that all Jews should make “aliyah,” or emigrate to that state — and that those who do not do so should, at least, make Israel “central” to their practice of Judaism, it is necessary to clarify the real nature of Jewish life in our country at the present time. ...."

Jews, like others enjoy self determination.
"We believe that although Israel is the birthplace of our faith, it is not the place of our national affiliation.
As American Jews, we believe that our nationality is American. We are tied both geographically and emotionally to the United States and to its values of democracy, freedom, liberty and justice. We believe we can be Jews and Americans. "

Zionism is a sham, at the expense of others, and an enterprise that has usurped Judaism. It is, indeed, the Golden Calf.
OMG!
"The film presents the dangers Iran now poses to America, the Middle East and the rest of the free world and the options being considered to combat these threats.
This video will be presented to Congress in a Capitol Hill Screening on February 8. "
I'd like to know what Congress people attended the freak show.
No, no a third way.
Let's not give emotional anti-anything room. (Modern day Jews are generally not necessarily a Semitic people, so we can start with not using false language adopted at the start of the Zionist enterprise, and begin to set things straight)
No imposing collective guilt onto any group. It is simply stupid. That way any truly anti-Jews have no room.
Forgive them because they are brainwashed dupes and do not know what they are doing.
Understanding starts with forgiveness.
Are you aware of what was done to the US State Department in the 40's and 50's? What happened there?
Be prepared for this and cut it off at the pass before it appears:
Once and if ever the destructive Agents of AIPAC are driven from office as traitors, the squealing cries of the "anti-Jewish" canard will be shouted from the roof tops of the Capitol dome.
But the political organizations AIPAC and JINSA have really nothing to do with Jews and are using Judaism for Zionist ideologies and the hijacking of US resources to nurture and protect Zionism.
So best to drive from office as being dupes and stupid. Forgive them and let them go.
It is the truthful reality.
As your comments on Congress: Maybe citizens of the USA will demand a government accountable to its own citizens. "Don't vote. It only encourages them."
We could start by removing money from the legislative process, declaring financial contributions to be interfering with due process and to be coercive.
So much, so well said. A hegemon will be a hegemon and always act to protect itself as such. It has noting to do with what is "right."
The ongoing deterioration and hijacking of the US political institutions is a threat to US Hegemony. This may motivate positive change.
Israel will of course act to protect itself. But there are growing realizations, even within Israel, that it is on a unsustainable and ideologically driven path that will lead to its own self destruction. There are emerging voices in within Israeli and Israel-European press hinting that changes in the ME can be only good for the future security of Israel. (no such voices to be heard in the US MSN....yet.)
That it is up to the Palestinians people to unite, transform and demand democratic powers for themselves. This will lead the way home.
Ms. Tilley, thank you for your commentary.
I've been to Egypt a number of times and have wonderful memories. It is a third world country. I have dear friends there (male and female) and was in daily contact over the past weeks. Egyptians will do everything to make you feel at home and welcome. Most have so little really. Best wishes for your travels
True. Ignorant comments by toads should not be engaged. Look what happens.
Unlike Europeans earlier (shall we remember King Ludwig and his crimes in the Congo -- the first time the expression "Crimes against humanity" was used in reference to the horrific treatment of the Congolese) the Chinese are building huge infrastructure in Africa. Hospitals, schools, roads., etc.
Heck, they even bring in their own labor and workers and pay for the privilege. The Chinese, Indians (and the Saudis) are also building farms in Africa.
Of course it is self interested motivation. Point is,as MRW said, China got there first!
Well....Israel is the only Nuke power in the ME and the current government is ultra nationalistic and Lieberman (former Kach party member) has made veiled threats and repeated rants for a Palestinian Holocaust of Gaza.
Has supported what would result in a genocide of the Egyptian people by calling for the destruction of the Aswan Dam in Egypt.
An ultra nationalistic regime driven by religous fevor may not hesitate to use the Samson option.
No one anywhere will care about Tel Aviv when that happens. Israel's neighbors have reason to feel threatened.
I wish I could share your optimism. I hope you are right. Hope all can be friends and give up on the sickness of who gets what. It is all really meaningless.
A little more history and a "core" issue that gets lost in the fog of the sham "Peace talks."
"Palestinian refugees and internally displaced Palestinians (IDPs) represent the largest and longest-standing case of forced displacement in the world today. On the 60th anniversary of the Nakba (or ‘Catastrophe’), the destruction of Palestine and the massive displacement of Palestinians by Israel in 1948, two out of every five refugees in the world are Palestinian. At the beginning of 2007, there were approximately seven million Palestinian refugees and 450,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs), representing 70% of the entire Palestinian population worldwide (9.8 million).
Palestinian refugees include those who became refugees following the first Arab-Israeli war in 1948 and the second Arab-Israeli war in 1967, as well as those who are neither 1948 nor 1967 refugees, but outside the area of former Palestine and unable or unwilling to return owing to a well-founded fear of persecution."

The responsibility of a state is to protect it's citizens and borders. Thinking about it, does Israel have borders? Is it a State yet?
Ordung über alles.
The resolution did not call for the removal. They can stay there on a legal basis. No one is calling for cleansing. Those are your words and your projection.
Who said all Jews are Arabs? Jews are of all blood and population groups. I live in a mostly Jewish neighborhood. Many, if not most, of the kids running around here are blond/red headed and blue-eyed. Very northern European and Slavic looking.
Not Semitic. But they are Jewish and have been for generations. Let us not confuse identity.
To keep Jerusalem requires it and is justified by ideologies as you explained earlier.
Richard, the continued abuse is required if Israel wants to exert it's will to annex, for example, Jerusalem. And as you explained here: Jerusalem must be occupied for sentimental reasons. Because a population has been brainwashed with ideas of ownership. Again blut und boden ideologies.
That insanity demands violence and destruction of a people. This is this is the price Israel will pay -- genocide and and cleasing of a people -- for it's sentiments.
Your ideology demands the abuse of Palistinians.
Exactly why not Richard?
Part of Jurusalem was annex just as Germany annexed areas of the Sudenten. Germany, too, claimed ancestral ownership to lands. But now makes no claims at all and never will. Any claims are beyond looney -- nothing more than the insane politics of blut und boden (blood and soil). A dead Nazi past.
Please explain why the old city section Jerusalem will never be returned?
All the comments coming into the Washington Post are bitter and angry about this vote. Interesting. A few years ago there would be little reaction. Is open gov. listening????
That so many comments are coming in deploring this in the most clear terms, and not yet a single Hasbarabot tells us that the Megaphone software must be down or delayed.
It is a strange perpective, filled with much opinion and conjecture. It leaves out that the German foreign Minister at the time, Genscher, was immediately sacked because he --on his own initiative and because he was born in and grew up in Croatia -- recognized the Croatian call for independence. This sparked and legitimized the grab for power by different interests -- each, and especially Serbian, resorting to ancient nationalistic sentiments to move the masses. The Serbs, as a group and for many structural reasons, had access to the military resources and were well positioned to force their will. Thus the sieges onto Bosnia and Croatian populations by Serbians. Easier to quickly kill (8000 snuffed out in four days) than work on building integrated civil society. Interestingly some Serbian military joined in helping to defend the Bosnians.
The bombings by NATO forced a rapid end to that horrible war. Nationalistic Serbian sentiment feel that if the bombings had not taken place, their objectives would have been met and all would be Now be Serbia. To say the bombing was unprovoked is well....strange.
The Dayton accords leave much unresolved and have and introduced new problems. Mostly assuring all parties remain weak, divided and dependent as Keith concludes.
The (unhealthy) romantic nationalism can be compared, but the analogy of the Irish with Jewish Israel stops there.
The Irish of Ireland were under British control and occupation for 300 years. A culture and language essential wiped out. A people almost wiped out under the policies of taking land holdings, occupation and settlement by English Lords and their Scottish subjects. And policies that eventually led to forced starvation and exile. In the end Ireland may be scared forever and it brought Great Britain nothing.
If you read the history and debates in British Parliament concerning the Irish in the mid 19th century, the language and sentiment rings of the justifications behind the Palestinian occupation policies. It is haunting.
You use the words "hate" and "hatred" often when referring to the perceived sentiments of others who express only a different view.
Reminds of inarticulate rants of an adolescent against his/her parents "you all hate me!" blah blah....
Giving sanctuary, support and patronage to a group escaping the Inquisition, and building a temple on behalf of the new community sounds pretty good to me.
All groups were taxes.
You may want to read Noel Malcom.
Actually the Ottoman Empire was good to Jews.
One example is the Synagogue built in Sarajevo under Ottoman patronage in the 16th Century. One can make the case it was marauding Christians that made life difficult for all non-Christians, including the Jews and others.
Well....here we go again with race based genetics. Or "Science" applied to race studies.
The Cohen Modal Haplotype is found in many groups all over the world. Just as other Haplotype sequence markers. It is really meaningless.
We are all out of Africa......
But a very rich one.
He is protecting his job.
Keeping it irrelevant.
Thank you.
I was wondering that also. But Feingold was very clear in his opposition to Bush's war from the get go and was not a coward about it like so many of his colleagues in the swamps of DC. So I guess that is why.
He has honorable talents and abilities to think and act clearly, except when it comes to all things Israel (that is power of indoctrination).
What a dream......
Munich was a terrible movie. Munich was no story. We know governments and institutions do very bad things to protect their interests . It was like we were supposed to be so shocked that even Israel is just as rotten as every other state.
The pattern and tactic of targeted assassinations of real or perceived or anticipated enemies has been in place by Zionist since before the establishment of the Zionist state. So that is a little bit unique to Israel.
Sounds like projection. Your projection about "your people."
Having said that, I don't think one can make any conclusions really about anything citing statistics of how many from one group or another wind up in the military.
If any at all, perhaps only that the military generally has a larger proportion of volunteers from less privileged groups in US society. It is a way up and out.
As a group, Jews may not need the ticket.
Huh, not the Arab Jews I know. And how about the Jews of Iraq (an ancient cohesive community and most now in Israel) who proudly consider themselves Arabs. Or the Mizrahim from what is now called Yemen. I know, I know the idea is difficult for Zionists. But Zionism is an enterprise that has really little to do with Judaism.
As for the scandal at the AF Academy of Evangelicals overstepping their boundaries. Another false equivalency. And besides there have been severe and still ongoing consequences into that.

The Ultra Orthodox, and specifically of Haredi Judaism, is the fastest growing religious group in the world and in the US and UK much larger than 60 years ago. And estimated, even by Israeli demographers, that before 2050 the Israeli majority will be mostly Haredi Ultra Orthodox. For those who do go beyond the very Orthodox way of life, they pay a high price of rejection from community and family. Few leave.
This development brings ongoing and rapid change to the nature or even sustainability of Israel's "strong and vibrant democracy."
(Do you get that language "strong and vibrant" out of a manual?)
Some Jews are Arab.
Your question is a false comparison. The Evangelical Christian movement does not violate any laws in their activities, as much of the Settler does movement violate Israeli laws. And more and more they are becoming a threat to the Israeli state within.
"“If Netanyahu continues the freeze, we would see it as a declaration of war,” said Samaria Regional Council head Gershon Mesika. “We would do everything possible to topple the prime minister,..."

Yes, but she is a rich chicken shit and full of more....as evil as much of the media industry. And not because she is rich, but because she has no standing, credibility. Does it only take money and a good face lift to get a megaphone and be on TV?
I've been thinking about this Wisner fiasco. He was sent there with lots of noise and coverage by MSM, and then suddenly after his bizarre and turncoat performance in Munich, he got the big slap down. Worse are the revelations of his blatant conflicts of interests -- Patton Boggs, Egyptian lobbyist; on the board of a large Egyptian Bank. ... What was the Obama Administration thinking? Did anyone outside of State even know he was going over at the US Envoy?
He was supposed to have a conversation with Mubarak. Don't we have an Ambassador for that? A State Department? An Administration?
I have a feeling Obama gave Clinton a long leash, but maybe never again as she has shown herself over and over again to be the in-house girl for the I lobby and not for US interests.
This was a fascinating documentary on the grass roots organization behind protest, leading to this revolution. It was years in the making.

It should be shown on US television and it would render the fear mongering talking heads irrelevant and out of touch with realities.
Incredibly powerful visualization. It says so much. Is the world listening?
Note that Zeinobia (a woman) is a large circle at the center between languages. So much for trying to discredit the movement as one to be disenfranchising to women.

Great Cartoon. Truth by Jest.
Another would be writing the Dear John letter to Israel, and a sign off with "we can still be friends."
Most Egyptians are Semites.
To make a claim about the degree of Egypt's anti Jewish sentiment, Spitzer will have to back up his claims with facts.
Not saying there is not such a sentiment, (but do not know if it could be characterized s the "most virulent AS state"). But whatever.....with a change in policy and relations, that could improve very fast.
Not everyone wants to watch TV over their computer. Some want to lie in bed in the evening without a Computer and simply watch a bit of TV at the very end of their day.
There is no reason that American citizens should be denied a major world news network.
"The problems of establishing such a state..."
What problems exactly? Please explain, without going into a rant about different ethnic groups, culture, religion "they all hate us" blah blah.
If the Israeli Government wanted and needed to find a solution to these so-called problems, solutions would be found. That such "problems" exists -- real or imagined -- point to the failure of a democracy in Israel.
Solve those problems and then proudly shout to the world about the only Democracy in the Middle East.
Until then Israel runs the risk of turning into a failed state. Let's hope that does not happen.
Name a SINGLE law in Germany giving more privilege to any religious group over another.
You cannot because your statement is made out of gross and projected ignorance or simply a lie.
Egypt is basically a homogeneous population..."
You have obviously never been to Egypt. It has a very mixed population -- the melting of Africa, the ME and the West.
As for it's terribly flawed "Democracy:"
The political classes and most of the population in Israel are beholden to an odious nationalist mind-set on a par with Serbia.
A toxic brew of a nationalistic identity built on the myths of ancient kings and heroes, primitive tribal ideas (shall we keep searching for the Cohen and Levi genes?) and religion.
Blood, soil, religion and nation. That is everything other than foundations of democracy.
Zionism is a politic, not a people.
And you might be surprised.
Did she and her husband donate to the Woodrow Wilson Center in a big way to secure that job?
"How is the Center funded?
The Center is a public-private partnership. Approximately one third of the Center's operating funds come annually from an appropriation from the U.S. government. The remainder of the Center's funding comes from foundations, grants and contracts, corporations, individuals, endowment income, and subscriptions. There are special tax deduction allowances for Canadian and Mexican taxpayers. Please contact the Center’s Development Office for more details. "

Huh? Could you please cite a source where the MB states that the desire to end the Peace with Israel? The claim does not add up?
"The Muslim Brotherhood are not seeking power," Mohammed Morsi, a member of the group's media office, said at a news conference. "We want to participate, not to dominate. We will not have a presidential candidate, we want to participate and help, we are not seeking power."

And nation states do not have friends, but only interests. People have friends.
And since when is riding Egypt of a thieving and repressive government all about it's treaty with Israel?
Talk about conflicts of interests. (And we like to say that the Egyptian Government is corrupt!)
From the Patton Boggs web site:
"Patton Boggs has been active in Egypt for 20 years. We have advised the Egyptian military, the Egyptian Economic Development Agency, and have handled arbitrations and litigation on the government’s behalf in Europe and the US. Our attorneys also represent some of the leading Egyptian commercial families and their companies, and we have been involved in oil and gas and telecommunications infrastructure projects on their behalf. One of our partners also served as the Chairman of the US-Egyptian Chamber of Commerce, promoting foreign direct investment into targeted sectors of the Egyptian economy. We have also handled negotiation of offset agreements and managed contractor disputes in military sales agreements arising under the US Foreign Military Sales Act.
Patton Boggs maintains a correspondent affiliate relationship with one of Egypt’s most prominent firm of lawyers in Cairo, the law firm of Zaki Hashem.
WISNER Biography:
Ambassador Frank G. Wisner provides clients with strategic global advice concerning business, politics, and international law from the firm’s Washington and New York offices.
Ambassador Wisner’s diplomatic career spans four decades and eight American presidents. He served as ambassador to Zambia, Egypt, the Philippines, and India during his extensive career in the State Department."

The history of that election can be debated, but with Dersh's logic no country should have democratic elections because a "Hitler" might be voted in.
Great overview. But there is another reason why the US is saying slow down the transition. Even though it appears there are structures in place to allow the complete removal of Mubarak and his thieves and put in an interim government until elections can take place.
The US currently has billions of open military contracts with Egypt. This would put all of these on hold and likely cancel many. This is just too much to loose!

McCain and his ilk should keep on talking. The more they talk, the more ignorance and insanity is exposed and the middle east policy of lies and destruction is laid out for all to see.
To think that he is a Senior Senator, and an almost-POTUS. Frightening, indeed.
Not only integrating opposition into the State, but allowing for the organization of legitimate civil organizations. The memories of prison and torture for those who asked questions are too fresh. How can their rights be assured? This (and the endemic corruption and stealing) will have addressed. Case in point, the US/Egyptian citizen Saad Ibraham (The Stated Department did nothing to come to a fellow American's defense, btw.)

It is her right and not wrong to give voices to all, but an example of Arianna's ongoing pandering to the Hasbara project is here
"Taking back Zionism"

"dislike and even hatred of Zionism ..." blah blah..
"...500 hundred energized Birthright alumni, who had gathered for a powerful event of Birthright Israel and 30 partnering Jewish -- and Zionist -- organizations.
These alumni are part of a whole generation of eyewitnesses to what is Israel. ..." blah blah
"...it is imperative to work together on the Zionist project to ensure that its potential is realized..."
This is a sad rant on HP and after reading it twice one does not even know what it is really about other than some kind of "project" to use the author's words.
Oh well....
The coverage in Aljazeera has been stunning. Professional, up to date. Many sides. Very broad. It leaves the US media in the dust. When will Americans be allowed to view Aljazeera?
Today Bloomberg TV interviewed John McCain. The reported asked him about any support of El Baradei. With the mention of his name, McCain's face went all sour and he quickly stated, "Mohammed El Baradei is an enemy of the United States." The reporter did not follow up asking for any qualification.
I know that Bush was unhappy with him and Israel also because he tried to get Israel to come clean about its nukes (that was his job, after all), but what was THAT all about?
Frances, the government policies of South East Asia did it to themselves, unleashing the currency devaluation at the time with inane policies. And Soros's Quantum fund (active at the time) cannot and did not control the currency markets. No entity is large enough. Not even National Banks can control currency movements, as much as they often try.
Currencies, like water, will find their natural path.
Maybe she will advise them to get out of their bubbles and stop being afraid. Have you ever walked past a US Embassy or Consulate in the last years since 2000? They are disgusting fortresses of fear in capitals around the world. Not nice places.
The media would not report on that because it would require too much thought and analysis.
If there is violent uprising to the Muzzling of fellow Americans, including Jews, the media MIGHT report on it.
There is always the fear that it would encourage the real Anti Jewish bigots and give them a voice. That is understandable, but a strong society and group is not threatened by the bigots who will always be among us. Repression does not make them go away, it increases their resentment and the pressure.
Letting them vent shows the primitive and vapid voice they are. Just listen to the anti Arab bigots on the US airwaves now. They are hurting their own racist causes the more they talk.
"I still worry about the role of the Muslim Brotherhood,..." Good golly can't you guys give this mantra up? It seems to be the talking point beamed. The fear of the MB is repeated everywhere (on the BBC, CNN, etc.) and repeated over and over by the same group of people.
This FEAR is never backed up with anything more than bogey man talk. The facts are that the Egyptian people are looking for Mubarek to be gone, for a transitional government and for elections. And the MB does not have all that much support anyway.
It is the dictatorship that has kept the MB alive. If there were an open and free society the MB probably would not even exist.
Keep fear alive, Richard. When it is gone, the Zionist game have no cards left.
Well articulated lay of the land. Change in the mindset will come rapidly. However, I do not know if it is fair to write: "Americans must be as willing to dream as the people in Tahrir Square. We must dare to step outside our old understandings and our old fears."
People are afraid when they are taught to be afraid. Fear keeps a population in better control. For the last 40 years our media and government has created this fear, but not all Americans succumbed to it -- many never fell into the trap of racist fear mongering and actively resisted it ordinary daily life. So I felt of tinge of "please do not speak for me" reading those words.
" Liberalism will be called upon again in the Jewish spirit, and Jews will answer. "Can move beyond tribal identification
Those who promote it on the airwaves and cling to it are looking more and more ridiculous -- even ugly -- everyday.
Yes, the winds are changing. Thank you.
There is some Evil over at HP. (Not to mention all the trash.)
Ariana is in bed with APCO, a Communications consultancy, often contracted to keep fear and Zionism alive and she has even their own people (i.e. former "I-bought-my-Ambassadorship" Marc Ginsberg) as regular HP writers/bloggers.
There is too much interest in keeping bogey men alive and the public fearful. The US audience really has no idea what the MB even is. So professional Hasbarist and paid propagandist like Bolton and Marc Ginsberg are allowed to dominate the disinformation on Fox News. There is a method and purpose in this.
Agreed. And US Embassy employees/workers/representatives everywhere live in a bubble. May be wrong, but I simply cannot imagine that scenario.
They would never venture outside the neighborhood and a group of select restaurants in Cairo, and then be shipped off somewhere else before they become too close to the natives. That is how it works everywhere.
Oh they are already scribbling very hard on the talking points all over Washington D.C. Lobby groups (AIPAC) and think tanks are already hooking up with the likes of communication consultants like APCO on how to most efficiently get the new spin out. It is not easy for them now as the more they spin the more they begin to look like the absurd propagandist of the DDR (Deutsche Democratic Republic) in it's last months talking in circles.
Founded in 1996 by boyhood friends Michael Brunn, president, and Jacob Kravel, vice president, the facility is the extreme in the manufacturing and engineering industry. Among 14 buildings situated on 150 acres, the ISO 9001:2000 certified company manufactures its own designs of less-lethal munitions used to defend and protect its sole customers — military, law enforcement and government personnel.
"If we make mistakes," explains General Manager Joe Schrecengost, "an officer or a military person could lose their life."
Combined Tactical, which has 15 patents and produces nearly a million products a year for such agencies as the police, ATF, FBI, U.S. Customs, Army and Marine Corps, as well as Special Operations Forces, has had steady growth in the past few years. Now employing nearly 130 workers and running two shifts, five days a week, at its Greene Township facility, the plant is a leading provider of sting balls, known for their powerful emission of BB-sized pellets and tear gas spray, and the fuses used in hand grenades.
"Growth in the company is due to the development of new products, not necessarily 9/11," Kravel says of the demand for less-lethal munitions. "We are really proud of the products that we manufacture here."

So true, so true!
Have received messages from colleagues in Cairo. The population is huge and the city enormous. Not all areas feel the protests. Messages are that it is only "some demonstrating for their legal rights."
Egyptians live under strong repression and are cautious as to what they say. The military runs the country. Ironically, like Israel all in power come up through the military. (Mubarak, like Sadat came up through the military.)
If this could be broken and Mohamed ElBaradei could run for president this might break the pattern. He would have support of the proud (but repressed for centuries) Egyptians, but to succeed and run the country as an open society he would have to make alliances with groups the US does not like. If this demand for "legal rights" takes hold, I wonder if the US will support an outsider that will not be a puppet?
Egypt has a very young population. In spite of its poverty and poor infrastructure and education system, it is still the most educated population of young people ever.
Under the aid agreements with Egypt, they are required to make purchases of US Wheat with the aid.
You think Iran and Egypt are the same?
Comhghairdeas!
Agreed. "Final Solution" does not sound like a 17th century phrase and I have only memories of reading that the phrase as first used and attributed to Cromwell's military campaign and the solution of settlement of Scots into Ireland. Some writers viewing it through modern eyes now refer to it as "Cromwell's Final Solution" as estimates on the death toll to the Irish population at the time were almost 40% as a direct result of his campaigns.
More important is your good point that the peace achieved in Ireland is based on the idea that all are there by right and not by the grace of the "other" side. That is an anathema to ideas of Zionism.
"America’s political system has been far more thoroughly subverted by Israeli interests than Britain’s ever was by Irish ones. "
True and one of the reasons that the welfare of the Irish had difficulty finding any support in the US political system for well over a century is because it was successfully framed as a religious conflict and not a dreadful racist colonial grab designed to annihilate a people.
In fact the first time the expression "final solution" was used was under Cromwell's campaigns against the Irish for colonial conquest and attempt at complete eradication.
The historical parallels are many. Revisiting this historical account "The Great Hunger" by Cecil Woodham-Smith what is striking are that much of the language of dehumanization, etc., used then is the same now. (The book may be at times cumbersome for today's reader.)
But the Irish are deeply tired of the conflict resulting from British colonialism. And regardless of the strong parallels, most all native Irish Catholics of Northern Ireland want nothing to do with linking their tragic struggle with a violent movement of resistance. And those who want to revise it are thought to be thugs looking for a cause.
As an aside, the town of Drogheda has the crescent as its flag in memory of that Ottoman hunger relief that broke the blockade landed there after being turned away by the British in Dublin and Cork. It is a fascinating history and the parallels canny.

Your comment does not make any sense. The article was not even about BDS.
The Hasbara attack brigade is out in full force over at HP below this commentary. It must have really hit a nerve.
Thank you. A must read article. So much so well said. Should be featured and deserves a wide readership. Thanks for the link!
Ignorance is bliss.
A stunning and calouse statement. You say on one had that no one should use anything like white phosherous or anything like it and on the other discrdit the idea thta it was even used on a civilian population. Yet have not even bothered to read the reports of the excessive use.
"White prosperous was used throughout the ground phase of the operations. The Israeli Government has set out s reasons for doing so, emphasizing that is is not only not a proscribed weapon under international law but that it was deplored with a high degree of success......In addition, the highly toxic substance, used so widely in civilian settings, posed a real health threat to the doctors dealing with the patients.....The Mission understands the need to use the obscurants and illuminant for various reasons during military operations and especially in screening troops from observations or enemy fire. There are, however, other screening and illuminating means which are free from the toxicities, ....inherent in the chemical white prosperous "
THE USE OF CERTAIN WEAPONS, Goldstone Report.
If you are interested in the inhumane decisions, the levels of the massive crime to which you not dare look at closely with an open mind, which to this day is defended by a continued inhumanity of bureaucrats cheered on and supported by those who dare not look at a truth.
Different "background "or "cultural background" surely would have been the better expression.
Judaism has nothing to do with ethnicity. Jews are of many different so-called ethnic backgrounds. A universalistic religion, if you will. Found all over and practiced among many different ethnic groups.
I guess this relegates the search for the "Jew Gene" into the dustbin of race-based pretend science just as the disgraced Arian racial genetics pretend research of the 20's and 30's
Being major of a major US metropolis...stuff happens. Think Giuliani and what that did for his career. Or potentially did....after all, he was a candidate for the US Presidency.
He is now trying to keep his relevance alive for himself and his terror consulting company, Giuliani and partners.
Rahm is a bit slicker and smoother, but the game plan is the same.
Thank you Colin. Labels such as "left" or "right" attempt to define and ultimately box in and distort any reality and attempts to arrive at a truth. It is like packaging something in a box.
Why put emerging truth into a box, label it? To use a tired phrase, "it is what it is."
Why call the voices behind Breaking the Silence "left?" This welcomes polarization of a message. They are simply telling a truth.
This should be required viewing for all Americans (above a certain age) and the entire US Congress; should be broadcast on Prime Time TV over and over. Questions will be asked. A citizenry might become informed.
Our complicit government that enables these crimes based on lies and the crimes of occupation and blockades might be motivated to stop the ongoing crimes against humanity which are supported by our tax dollars.
Where are the protest on the Mall? You know the ridiculous and meaningless Glen Beck and Jon Stuart shows in the open air that are an entertaining diversion.
When will BDS kick in?
Your comment is a diversion. The point of his post was that
"there that Israeli judges have contributed with the aim of furthering the criminal activity or criminal purpose of a group pursuing illegal settlement and illegal restrictions on the freedom of movement of Palestinians in the occupied territories.
That is undoubtedly part of the reason the report is not held in high regard by the members of the Israeli government and the HCJ."
Not the lack of Israel's constitution.
Ridicule when one has no argument (the now ongoing ridicule of Goldstone) is a primitive tactic appealing to primitive instincts.
Methods of twisting a possibly respected truth teller into a joke to discredit is nothing new. We see it now in references to Goldstone.
Good golly, is Zionism a religion? By all that blather I would think so.
"I love the combination of characteristics that liberal Zionism is constructed of. It is an ideal...""
So something in your imagination, something that does not exist. A Utopian ideal.....an idea.
As for the US having matured.....that is doubtful. What has changed really?
You are all too funny. :) so true, all of it.

A great alternative, especially for the global community.
Shelly Moore Capito ( link to capito.house.gov) who went to and graduated from the same high school as Henocowitcz belongs to the Hall of Shame.
Moore, like so many in Congress is clueless.
"Did the Europeans have the right to attack Jews for centuries? Who cares, the fact of the matter is they did."
For centuries? This is a meme over and over again. Tragically groups are attacking each other all the time and all over. A tribal thinking, thing I guess.... Aren't Jews European? Asian, Caucasian, Arab, African, a Universal people?
You seem to feel sorry for yourself a lot here.
As long as legitimate criticism of Israeli policies can be loudly framed as "anti Jewish" or "anti Semitic" (whatever that shall mean as Semitism does not mean Judaism) truth will be repressed.
Tragically, the longer it is repressed, the worse it will be for Israel. It already is a disaster for the United States.
Sharek Youth Forum sounds like, for example, a USAID project.
"To transform Sharek into a model initiative and dynamic development agent for youth organizations in Palestine."

My goodness....it is not about who is responsible for what. Or even about Hamas...good or evil. This discussion here is about how genuine this "Manifesto"may be.
To be honest how seriously can anyone take a so-called manifesto/adolescent rant with such a lead:
"Fuck Hamas. Fuck Israel. Fuck Fatah. Fuck UN. Fuck UNWRA. Fuck USA! " And then degenerating into more fecal language.
"Israel very effectively bombed the shit out of us,..They did not get rid of Hamas, as they intended, but they sure scared us forever and distributed post traumatic stress syndrome to everybody, as there was nowhere to run."
Knowing Palestinian youth, this language, expression and tone just does not fit. Something is strange. I cannot pin point it.
I had that same problem. I finaly got around it when someone did it for me. It seems to be the service used to process credit cards? As Mondo has an international participation, it would be great if that could be fixed?
Antidote, It was the Russians who occupied Poland and cleansed both Germans and Poles from some regions, and brutalized and transported surviving Germans out East Prussia.
