Let's get some other perspective on this ongoing discussion. Please read "The Arabs and the Holocaust: The Arab- Israeli War of Narratives" by Gilbert Achcar, or listen to him speaking at Chicago University: link to youtube.com
I think one day most people will see that Achcar's perspective is just and true. The attempt to put the blame on the Arabs and to portray them as hating Jews is a (well-funded) desperate attempt to justify the wrongdoings since 1948. Of course there were incidents of violence on both sides, but to try and compare them as equal is simply out-of-this world ridiculous and criminal. I don't think most Americans, in particular, and Europeans (especially Germans) realize how manipulated their viewpoints have been - not to forget the indoctrination of Israelis (well-documented in the films of Eyal Sivan), which has made people like Netanyahu absolutely certain that Jews are threatened everywhere. It has been insidious and very effective. But people are waking up and there is a great thirst for truth and justice (and I include justice for Israelis whose society is being perverted by a right-wing government with neo-fascist tendencies), despite extensive repressive measures.
Why don't you stop communicating with this guy. He is not interested in understanding anything, learning anything, or shifting his position - there are people like him on all Palestinian-related sites. An Israeli woman who made a film about the settlers said, when asked what the men do, "they pray and lobby" (they don't need to work because they are supported by Jews in America and other countries, plus support from the Israeli government) - I would add they and many other pro-Zionists spend a lot of time on the internet and probably some are hired by Mossad. Let's use our energy for more productive communication.
...which is why I wrote "a high degree of association with white supremacy and hate groups" - but he may just like the number 7....? Let's not get sidetracked from more important subject matter.
I hear from more and more people who have been treated this way at Ben Gurion on arrival and when leaving. Some never want to return, even though they have Israeli friends or business connections.
Whoever chooses Ben Gurion's security personnel seems to pick particularly nasty, vindictive and sadistic characters to interrogate visitors. They revel in humiliating and demeaning people, all too reminiscent of former East German guards (there are many similarities to East Germany besides the gross wall Israel has built). They also don't seem to care if they are creating enemies.
Check out the decision not to allow Arkia, the only Israeli airline flying to Sweden, after Denmark refused to permit Israeli security procedures at its airports... Swedish port refuses to allow Israeli methods of security inspections dictated by Shin Bet, which include ethnic, personal profiling, extensive questioning. link to haaretz.com
Well, East Germany no longer exists and perhaps one day, inshallah, Jews and Arabs will live together as they did before the Zionists came and brought a new chaos and hatred to the entire Middle East. In the meantime Israelis are leaving the Jewish State in droves. The tragedy is not just that Palestinians are prohibited from leading fulfilling lives, but the lives of young Israelis are being damaged by indoctrination.
Incidentally, there are people like proudzionist777 on almost every site, blog etc. related to Israel/Palestine. It is a waste of time discussing anything with them because they are only interested in dogma and seem incapable of shifting their attitudes. Besides anyone using the 777, which has a high degree of association with white supremacy and hate groups, is a questionable debating partner...
Please stop this annoying agitation and go out and inform yourself. It is quite simple, visit one of these villages or go to youtube to witness olive trees being torn up. There can be absolutely no reason, nor excuse for destroying these trees or the livelihood of Palestinian farmers unless Israel's government wants to get rid of them. It has become quite obvious that this is precisely what they do intend. This information is widely corroborated by independent witnesses, human rights groups, government officials from various countries, and Jews who either care or who have bothered to question the Zionist narrative and indoctrination. Israel's government flails around desperately, disputing facts, presenting bald-faced versions of their own invention, bullying some into silence. It is foolish to believe they can go on for ever without destroying themselves.
It is not about winning. Turkey's abuse of human rights can be addressed and so can Israel's, despite all the lobbying and millions invested to prevent this. BUT Paul Auster's ignorance of actual human rights abuses in Israel, in Jerusalem and in the Palestinian territories IS breathtaking. Add to that Israel's widespread exploitation of culture and even gays (pink-washing) to detract attention from these abuses. It is every artist, writer, musician's responsibility to be informed as far as possible about, in this case, Israel. Paul Auster should read the following: Putting out a contract on art. link to haaretz.com
Perhaps Paul Auster should also try to understand the reasons behind the US Scholars' Delegation Calls for Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel: link to usacbi.org
I would advise Paul Auster to inform himself, to investigate what exactly is going on in Jerusalem. He should take a trip to a Palestinian village where peaceful demonstrations take place, where the villagers are constantly harrassed by settlers, where every move is ordained by the IDF, where men and children shot, tear-gassed, are picked up and imprisoned and kept without trial, where people cannot move freely, cannot work, where children's education is undermined and their health as well. All part of the plot to make people's lives so unbearable that they leave in droves
- and voilà! - more land for the settlers. Only someone who is willfully blind cannot see this.
Israel has become a shameful country and if it were not for the billions pumped into it by the US, it would long ago have had to adapt to the very region in which it exists.
