Love that photo of Netan-yee-haw and Obama. I noticed Reuters has a story today that quotes Obama saying that Iran is "one year away" from a nuke. Never mind that Iran has been "one year" away from a nuke for the last 30 years. I predicted in 2006 that it wouldn't be Cheney who bombs Iran, that it would be a Democratic president who does that. I predict my prediction comes true!
German origin, yes, but also Jewish.
Hi, Kathleen! I agree it's important to acknowledge the decades-long silence. But the most damaging silence has come from America's liberals than from America's liberal Jews. Just look at the Democratic Party, mostly comprised of gentiles, for an example. Since the 1980s, I have known quite a few Jews who have been willing to criticize Israel. But they are not invited on the boob tube and Wolf Blitzer ignores them. Back in 1948, a number of Jews, including Albert Einstein, criticized Israeli fascism in a letter to the New York Times. Over the years, I have found that more Jews than gentiles are willing to criticize Israel.
Thanks, Mr. Roth. As a "goyem" I almost always quote the words of Jews in order to criticize Israel to my friends, family and others who are insanely uncritical. It's safer for us gentiles to do so because we're constantly berated for being antisemites. I predict I'll be quoting YOU in the future as well. I can't go wrong with a name like "Roth," right? Or a name like "Weiss". I guess you're the vanguard! Mondoweiss is so important. Peace and good luck! -- Jim
Thanks for the info! I'm just a humble goyem watching the carnage, trying to change people's minds in my own little American world! Love MondoWeiss!
It's interesting that Israel, by stealing Palestinian land, has set the stage for a one-state solution and thus the demise of a Jewish state. Demographics show that the Palestinian birth rate is dramatically higher than the Jewish birth rate and that, in 25 years, Arabs will out-number Jews in Judea and Samara. Consequently, the apartheid system in Israel will be too obvious for the world to ignore (just like South Africa in the 1980s). In 25 years, the world will overwhelmingly condemn Israeli apartheid and it will come crashing down. The result will be a "one state solution" with an Israeli Kennesset dominated by a Palestinian majority. And this majority will oppress the Jewish minority and around the merry-go-round we go!
Hey, thanks for this excellent summary! I ended my 30-year "relationship" with cable TV in 2010 after CNN Headline "News" hired Glenn Beck. Anyhoo, it really bothers me that people think Palestinians "started" this mult-decade of terror and colonization of their land. Perhaps all the esteemed readers here already saw this, but Albert Einstein co-authored a 1948 letter to the NYT warning Americans about fascism by specific Jews in Israel, namely Menachem Begin, who later became PM of Israel and whose philosophy survives today at the Kenesset. The warning letter shows how precient old Albert and Co. had been! We need to spread this important letter of history far and wide! Check it out: link to globalwebpost.com
"Without the State of Israel, the self-confidence and sense of belonging that American Jews now take for granted would quickly disappear." LMAO!! As an American of Irish descent, the State of Ireland provides me with "the self-confidence and sense of belonging that America's Irish now take for granted!" Haha!
I wonder how many teachers know about the CIA's 1953 overthrow of Iran's democratically-elected leader that installed the American-backed dictator we knew as "The Shah," who brutalized and tortured political dissidents for 25 years, which thereby sparked the 1979 Islamic revolution? Here's a good video: "History of Iran & USA in 10 minutes": link to youtu.be
A very inconvenient truth! Incredible that such an opinion could never get published here in the United States of Denial.
I'm always weary whenever someone uses the name "al-Qaeda." A bomb goes off? Blame al-Qaeda. A massacre by Salafis in Iraq? Blame al-Qaeda. The temperature is hot? Blame al-Qaeda. I believe government officials worldwide have an incentive to blame "al-Qaeda" because it makes American taxpayers support more "aid" for those governments. That's because, for Americans, al-Qaeda means "September 11." Also notice there are different types of "al-Qaeda" mentioned in the news media. There are "pro-Al-Qaeda" groups (as this article says), al-Qaeda "affiliates", al-Qaeda "inspired" groups and al-Qaeda "off-shoots." LOL. We are all being played like a cheap banjo by governments and even local terrorists who use the word "al-Qaeda" but have no designs to be international terrorists.
Awesome glimpse into the Occupation. As an American, I'm greatful for your website. It continues to open my eyes (and I'm sure the eyes of many others).
I would bet CBS has a clause in the contract that allows them to dismantle any billboard for any reason and refund the money paid. CBS has far greater bargaining power than the rest of us suckers and its lawyers likely added the "escape" clause in its billboard contracts.
As an atheist, I'm a bit embarrassed that Harris is an atheist (along with that other pro-war neoCon, the late Christopher Hitchens). Atheists are some of the most bigoted people when it comes to Islam and support for Israel. Just look at Bill Maher who never misses an opportunity to declare he's an Israel Firster. It's incredibly dangerous and helps fuel the flames of perpetual war. I never thought any fellow atheist would jump in bed with Christian evangelicals and right-wing religious Israelis. What a world.
It's very naive for Clawson to claim the ongoing covert war won't "provoke a nationalist reaction in Iran." I bet he predicted in 2003 that an Iraq invasion would be a "cake walk."
He lives under the rock of American Exceptionalism. People who have a moderate level of confidence in Obama's intelligence are the same people who regret voting for the man. Perhaps you are one of those people?
I believe Obama is well-intentioned, but he is also naive and ignorant. He trusts his military and State Department advisors, many of whom are neoCons. I think the same can be said of George W. Bush. He was merely following the advice of people he trusted, people who were neoCons. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama has never heard the word "neoconservative." He is literally tone deaf and stupid.
Barack Obama is a neoconservative, too. I know it's difficult for many to accept this fact since he agreed (reluctantly) to withdraw troops from Iraq. But this withdrawal gives him cover to wage his covert slaughter campaign in the Middle East. Remember, Obama hired neoCon technocrat Bob Gates for defense secretary. There is no reason to assume Obama has fired any neoCon leftovers from the Bush administration who currently inhabit positions at the Pentagon. I'm stunned the opponents of the Iraq war are silent on Obama's covert wars which are creating new terrorists everyday.
It's not just you! He's a good dude. Glad I found him on twitter, along with MJayRosenberg and Mondoweiss!
Israel Firsters are turning the word "antisemite" into a big joke. The other day I was quoting Albert Einstein's critical comments about Menachem Begin in 1948 and an Israel Firster told me to stop spreading "pro-terrorist" propaganda. LOL. Almost fell out of my chair laughing.
Testing testing. My first comment here! But I have nothing to add since the article and the commenters said everything I wanted to say! Well done!
