I am a mother of two children and a Montessori teacher living in the San Francisco Bay area. I graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a B.A. in psychology. I have also lived and taught in rural northern Thailand and Shanghai.

What's with the "God Bless" stuff? It makes me puke. Considering the fact that the horror stemming from belief in sky gods is the very reason for your website's existence, the least you can do is to not invoke his sorry ass when you want to praise something.
"People marvel at the idiocy of these Nobel awards, but there’s method in the madness, since in the end they train people to accept without demur or protest absurdity as part and parcel of the human condition, which they should accept as representing the considered opinion of rational men, albeit Norwegian. It’s a twist on the Alger myth, inspiring to youth: you too can get to murder Filipinos, or Palestinians, or Vietnamese or Afghans and still win a Peace Prize. That’s the audacity of hope at full stretch.
It’s dawning even on those predisposed to like the guy that when it comes to burning issues the first black president of the United States truly hates to come down on one side or the other. He dreads making powerful people mad. He won’t stand up for his own people when they’re being savaged by the nutball right, edges them out, then has his press secretary claim that they jumped of their own accord. This may impress the peaceniks of Oslo, but from the American perspective he's looking like a wimp. "

"Wiggling" is not how I'd put it. She's backpedaling. Now she claims to want only "both" narratives to be heard. Yeah, it's a beautiful symphony, let's rejoice.
I don't care what Ms. Fonda thinks--why is this site keeping her relevant? Stick a fork in tomahawk-chopping-born-again -Barbarella...she's DONE.
It's Khouri that "puts the lie", not the NYT. We're obliged to praise them for the Op-Ed crumbs they toss? Puhlease....
Joel Stein is proud of the fact that the Jews control Hollywood. Young hipster that he is, he wrote an op-ed piece in the L.A. Times mocking recent polls that indicated a disinclination of the public to believe such canards as "Do the Jews Control Hollywood?" With feigned outrage he offers the evidence, listing all the studio heads and people of influence in Hollwood who are Jewish.
Imagine if Noam Chomsky had written this.
"We do appreciate Israel’s stated intent to place limits on settlement activity and will continue to discuss this with the Israelis as these limitations are defined. "
Obsequious gibberish. Translation: Please don't interpret this feeble expression of concern over settlement expansion to mean anything , or that we expect Israel to actually stop settlement expansion, that would be silly, only that we will continue to talk about talking about definitions and, you know, discuss stuff.
I'm confused. There are Israelis who readily admit they break treaties, slaughter Palestinians, and put the remainder on reservations? Not that there's anything wrong with that?
"It isn’t possible, though, to really know the whole mind of a historical actor"
Oh, right. We have no way of knowing how native americans felt about things. They were most likely enjoying themselves on the Trail of Tears.
"Well, no, it isn’t degrading to Indians to talk about them as victims. Victims can be quite active and even capable of committing atrocities themselves and can’t all be lumped into one category (a child is not responsible for what an adult does) and still be victims who were ultimately crushed by overwhelming odds against them. And as for whites, it degrades them (if we wish to play that game) to say that they were incapable of understanding the immorality of what they were doing"
Bingo!
