    • Please correct me if I am wrong but your comment makes it sound like Israel should stop this massacre only because of its economic impacts, not because of what is being done to Palestinians, and it being against International Laws, and human rights.

    • Unfortunately Canadian politics is following in lock-step with the Israeli lobby here as well. There is not ONE party that has not given Israel complete 1000% support for everything they do....want to kill thousands of Palestinians go for it. There is an Federal election here next year and NONE of the parties merit support from anyone concerned about peace and justice in Palestine and in this world.

  • 'Ads Against Apartheid' is going national
    • Sorry, this is the correct link for Dr. Masri’s Speech at “Crisis in Gaza and West Bank: Context and Action”

    • When the Israelis are openly calling for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. They are using that language of “Ethnic Cleansing.” They are openly calling for genocide. There was an article that was published twice in The Times of Israel, entitled: Genocide is permissible. they have openly changed the game on language being used. We can no longer just beg for people to listen to us about Israeli war crimes.

I would invite you to listen to Dr. Rania Masri’s Powerful Speech at “Crisis in Gaza and West Bank: Context and Action”

  • Israel accuses Gaza children of using Hamas as human shields

    • Why aren’t the Palestinian people getting fair coverage?

Some say it is because Jewish people or the Israeli lobby “control” or “unduly influence” U.S. media outlets. But this is not the case.

The real force behind this biased reporting is the huge aggregate of U.S. corporations that pull in mind-boggling profits from exploiting Middle East resources, including the media monopolies themselves.

Take the powerful media conglomerate NBC, for example. Why would NBC be so biased? Because NBC is owned by arms manufacturer General Electric, which profits from the war on Gaza.

GE Aviation makes the propulsion systems in the U.S. aircraft sold to Israel, including the F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-4 Phantom, the “Apache” attack helicopter and the Black Hawk utility helicopter, as well as the Israeli-made Kfir fighter plane. GE also makes parts for Hellfire II laser-guided missiles as well as T-700 and 701C jet engines used by the Israeli military.

NBC executives don’t mention that their salaries are paid by a company that makes a mint providing the very weapons that Israel uses. NBC doesn’t make a cent from exposing the murder of four Palestinian children playing on a Gaza beach.

    • "The ad sponsored by The Values Network, which was founded by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, has run in The New York Times, Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, among other U.S. newspapers."

This article might clarify why the papers you mentioned carried the ad: "Israel’s Military Censors Demand ‘Prior Review’ of New York Times’ Gaza Reporting"

  • Elie Wiesel plays the Holocaust trump card in Gaza
    • Thanks Annie, I will remember that in the future. :-)

    • Wiesel states that though Abraham lifts his knife to sacrifice his own son Isaac, his hand is stayed by God’s own command, thereby rejecting child sacrifice forever. He added that, “Jews rejected child sacrifice 3500 years ago. Now it’s Hamas’ turn.” Prof. Wiesel argues that while the suffering of those in Gaza is immense and a true tragedy, the blame lies solely with Hamas who use children as human shields and stores rockets and ammunitions in nurseries, schools, hospitals, and family homes."

By painting a picture of an army that never attacks civilians, that indeed goes out of its way to protect them, the Big Lie says Israelis are civilized and humane, and their Palestinian opponents are inhuman monsters. The Big Lie serves the idea that the slaughter in Gaza is a clash of civilizations, a war between democracy, decency and honor on one side and Islamic barbarism on the other. And in the uncommon cases when news of atrocities penetrates to the wider public, Israel blames the destruction and casualties on Hamas.

George Orwell in his novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four” called this form of propaganda doublethink. Doublethink uses “logic against logic” and “repudiate[s] morality while laying claim to it.” The Big Lie does not allow for the nuances and contradictions that can plague conscience. It is a state-orchestrated response to the dilemma of cognitive dissonance. The Big Lie permits no gray zones. The world is black and white, good and evil, righteous and unrighteous. The Big Lie allows believers to take comfort—a comfort they are desperately seeking—in their own moral superiority at the very moment they have abrogated all morality.

    • Chris Hedges: “The lesson of the Holocaust is not that Jews are special. It is not that Jews are unique. It is not that Jews are eternal victims. The lesson of the Holocaust is that when you have the capacity to halt genocide, and you do not, no matter who carries out that genocide or who it is directed against, you are culpable. And we are very culpable …”

  • The JDL gains influence in Canada as Jewish community moves to the right
    • Here is animportant counter-balance the JDL and AIPAC etc: “Boycott from Within”: Citizens of Israel Charge Israel with Genocide, Letter to the United Nations

    • It is extremely disturbing to see the rise of the JDL in Canada and all that implies for Canadians fighting against Israel's apartheid and genocidal policies.

It is made even worse by the unquestioning support for Israel's actions that are constantly given by ALL major political parties in Canada. That is why many are protesting, sending messages and tweets letting them know that they will not have our support in the next election unless they stand up to Israel and its lobby and demand a halt to this genocide and to stop the blockade of Gaza.

    • He used the "tunnels" talking again:

The tunnels that Israel has somehow managed to use as a pretext for the current invasion of Gaza ex post facto, are another product of Israel's skewed logic. When Israel banned the import of basic items into Gaza, including cement, irrigation pipes, tar, plaster, A4 paper and even chocolate, and attempted to reduce the flow of goods to a"humanitarian minimum" in order to put Palestinians "on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger," they also created the conditions necessary for such desperate attempts at reaching the outside world.

It was only after the blockade in 2007 that the makeshift system of tunnels was transformed into a major commercial enterprise. As Nicholas Pelham notes, the tunnels, became a "key driver of upward mobility and social change, empowering previously marginalized groups…."

John Holmes, the United Nations under secretary general for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, remarked in 2010 that "the situation without the tunnels would be completely unsustainable." It is fair to assume, then, that the existence of the tunnels, first discovered by Israel in 1983, are predicated upon Israel's perpetual occupation of Gaza.

He also, of course, failed to mention that Hamas used monies to build hospitals, rebuild infrastructure etc that was destroyed in the last Israeli bombardment!

    • "The oppressed becomes the oppressor, the culprit becomes the victim, occupation is security, illegal colonization is cultural liberation, aggressive expansion is righteous reclamation, genocide is self-defence, apartheid is justice, resistance is terrorism, and ethnic cleansing is peace." ~Nima Sirazi

    • With the crash of the Malaisian flight over Ukraine, govts around the world immediately called for a moment of Silence…..for Gaza’s inhabitants…..nothing, thus showing the world picking and choosing whose lives have value and who doesnt.

Where is the "Right 2 Protect" gang? US, UK, France, Canada, where are you?

Where is so called the most powerful president Barak Obama? The nobel price winner for peace!!! It's a sick joke! US should stop playing and talking about freedom and democracy. What a sick world we live in!!

    • "To its young climbers in 1942, the shadow of the desert fortress of Masada falls “like the shadow of a hulking, sunken ship”. "

He must know that newly conscripted Israeli soldiers are often bused to Masada, the desert mountain fortress where ancient Jews committed mass suicide to avoid subjugation by the Romans, to pledge that the fortress must never fall again.

And yet listen to the hate spewed against Palestinians who are dying for the same reason only this time against subjugation by the Israeli's!

    • Protesters should stood outside the offices of big media corporations calling them out on their biased coverage....they are very vulnerable, both TV and written because they are loosing viewers/readers to the internet, so their revenues are down. If people let them know that their "viewership" ($) is going to be impacted maybe it will have a positive impact!

I also think protests should take place outside of stores who sell any product being produced by Israel in the Occupied Territories.

    • In 2010 Archbishop Theodosius Hanna (Orthodox Church of Jerusalem), on a visit to Ireland, told politicians: “The problem in Palestine has nothing to do with religion – it is not a religious issue. It is not a conflict of Christians, Muslims and Jewish people. It is a conflict between those who are the holders of a rightful cause and those who took away that right by military might.”

    • Show us the evidence of the carnage and death caused by the so called rocket barrage that is supposed to be landing every minute of every hour causing untold death and destruction in the chosen peoples homes and cities of Israel

    • Let’s face it if Palestinians were Jews the whole world and their dog would be on their way to exterminate whoever is killing them. But they are not Jews they are Muslims so no one even sees them as humans. At best they are looked down upon as people that brought this on themselves, because fighting for your freedom or against an occupation and not sanctioned by the US/NATO is called “terrorism” these days.

    • "particularly when they were directly in front of a hotel full of foreign journalists."

So...they were either targeting innocent children on a beach or journalists...both are war crimes!

    • For anyone interested and if you want to participate in the protests against Israeli massacre in Gaza, here is the international list of protests taking place:

They also want to be able to publicise any protests that are not on the list, so if you know of a local protest please add it!

    • On CBS’s Face the Nation program on Sunday, Bob Schieffer said “The Palestinian people find themselves in the grip of a terrorist group that has embarked on a strategy to get its own children killed in order to build sympathy for its cause."

Part of an online petition demanding he be fired says:
"Schieffer’s remarks are a deliberate attempt to shift the moral culpability from where it belongs—with Israel—to the victims, innocent Palestinian civilians. They attempt to dehumanize Palestinians in a vile and racist way by suggesting that they don’t love their children like other people and are thus undeserving of our sympathy and solidarity.

These comments are unacceptable from the anchor of a major network news program."

    • Rula Jebreal is a Palestinian author and political analyst. She has been a paid contributor on MSNBC, where, during an interview this week, she critiqued that cable network's coverage of Gaza:

"We are disgustingly biased when it comes to this issue. Look at how [much] airtime [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu and his folks have on air on a daily basis, Andrea Mitchell and others. I never see one Palestinian being interviewed on these same issues." She tweeted later, "My forthcoming TV appearances have been canceled! Is there a link between my expose and the cancellation?" While MSNBC host Chris Hayes bravely brought her onto his show to discuss her critique, she is unsure if her contract will be renewed.

  • Statement: Legal experts and human rights defenders demand international community end Israel's collective punishment of Gaza
    • And Isreal's reaction: Israel intensifies Gaza shelling, warns of ‘protracted campaign’
The Israeli military intensified the shelling of Gaza overnight, killing at least 26 people and leaving hundreds injured in air and missile strikes. Israel's PM told citizens to prepare for a “protracted campaign” until the “mission is accomplished.”

At least 26 people were killed and 241 others injured in Gaza after Israel resumed shelling on Monday night, bringing the day's death toll to 44 people, Ma'an news agency reported.

Israel reportedly told at least 400,000 Palestinians in northern Gaza to evacuate their homes via text and phone. The IDF confirmed sending out such warnings before the shelling was renewed.

“The situation is somewhat extraordinary,” journalist Harry Fear told RT on the phone from the Gaza strip. He said that he and his colleagues received warning phone calls from the Israeli army warning them to seek shelter, as they were planning to intensify the strikes.

According to Fear, the Israeli warning said that “tonight would be a very dangerous night” and that it would be “unsafe” for journalists to remain in the area of “West Gaza City.”

As someone commented on the article: "Meanwhile, Israel reportedly told at least 400,000 Palestinians in northern Gaza to evacuate their homes via text and phone. The IDF confirmed sending out such warnings before the shelling was renewed.'

Israel forgot to tell text them they can return once the bombing is over, or maybe they didn't forget. And why text 400,000 people? Just who exactly are these guys targeting? "

  • New York Times silences Israel’s Palestinian citizens on Gaza war
    • Cant the NYT be added, even if unofficially to BDS and publicize it by protesting outside their offices?????

  • How many would be alive today if Obama had not quashed Goldstone Report?
    • "Bibi has decided to keep killing babies. I guess his target is to top operation cast lead."

He is massacring the next generation of Palestinians. Another reason this is really about genocide.

    • In her acclaimed book “A Problem From Hell; America and the Age of Genocide” (2003), Samantha Power, current American Ambassador to the United Nations, sharply criticized the United States deliberate inaction and its failure to prevent a genocide in Rwanda where up to one million lives were lost.
As she explains it, Washington simply was not interested in stopping the death toll. The thinking in Washington was: “Look, if something happens in Rwanda-Burundi, we don’t care. Take it off the list. It’s not- U.S. national interest is not involved "

In the face of media reports of the escalating death toll, Washington remained resolute not to stop the killings. As dead bodies piled up, Washington’s imperative became the avoidance of the term genocide. The concern was that if the ‘G ‘word was used and the Clinton administration did nothing, what would be the effect on the November congressional elections.

Power explained the term genocide: ‘Raphael Lemkin was looking for an all encompassing word that would describe the assaults on all aspects of nationhood – physical, biological, political, social, cultural, economic and religious. He wanted to connote not only full-scale extermination but also other means of destruction: mass deportation, the lowering of birthrate by separating men from women, economic exploitation, progressive starvation, and the suppression of the intelligentsia who served as national leaders.’

Twenty years after Rwanda, the Genocide in Gaza is ignored. Samantha Power has either lost all memory, or she has lost all humanity –but without a doubt, she is completely void of integrity, and complicit in the crimes against Palestinians.

Two decades later, again, prior to November elections, the US is careful to avoid the “G” word. As Israeli law makers call for genocide and indiscriminate killing of Palestinians under siege, and with calls of rape of Palestinian women, the massacre continues with the full backing, arming and and funding by the United States.

America has once again exercised its political clout in favor of the perpetrators of crimes against humanity; its voice the lone one to vote against a call to investigation by UN Human Rights Council into the Israeli offensive’s violations of international laws. As the population of Gaza is left without food, clean water, and medicine, and as the annihilation of Palestinians continues, Power and her bosses give their full support to Israel’s continued crimes against humanity and genocide.

Hypocrisy has never shown such an ugly, shameless face as that of America’s ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power– in this age of genocide.

  • Kerry is off the Israel bandwagon
    • RE: "The tragedy of the situation is Gazans, like the people of Carthage,
have resolved to die rather than continue under the jackboot of the current Israeli government."

Netanyahu, who surreally accused Hamas of "piling up" the civilian dead, as though Palestinians somehow choose to be killed by brutally disproportionate Israeli force, knows about resistance. He must know that newly conscripted Israeli soldiers are often bused to Masada, the desert mountain fortress where ancient Jews committed mass suicide to avoid subjugation by the Romans, to pledge that the fortress must never fall again.

  • Destruction of Gaza's children is something 'every one of us must confront' -- Jon Snow
    • Golda Meir met secretly with King Abdullah of Transjordan on 17 November 1947 and, in return for Abdullah's agreement not to interfere with the establishment of the Jewish state, committed Israel to turning a blind eye to Abdullah's ambition to annex that Arab part of the partitioned Palestine known today as the West Bank.

The Deir Yassin massacre took place on April 9, 1948, when around 120 fighters from the Irgun Zevai Leumi and Lohamei Herut Israel Zionist paramilitary groups attacked Deir Yassin near Jerusalem, a Palestinian Arab village of roughly 600 people. The assault occurred as Jewish militia sought to relieve the blockade of Jerusalem by Palestinian forces during the civil war that preceded the end of British rule in Palestine.

This lead up to the Dier Yassin massacre 1948: Around 107 villagers were killed during and after the battle for the village, including women and children—some were shot, while others died when hand grenades were thrown into their homes.

    • I imagine if there is any suspiscion that a Palestinian American was going to go back to fight for the resistance, he would at least risk being considered a "terrorist" i.e. supporter of Hamas with all that would entail in the US

  • Claim that Hamas killed 3 teens is turning out to be the WMD of Gaza onslaught
    • You might be interested to do some investigation into "Operation Northwoods" as well as "Gladio". These sorts of tactics have been used for a very long time and the US/NATO is still using them today and Israel uses them too.

    • Israeli genocidal policies is what this new Gaza war was all about since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge. The media was used to justify Israel’s war on the Palestinians in regards to the three Israeli teens as self defense. The media is a weapon, it always was. They must build public support in order for Washington, London or Tel Aviv to launch their wars of aggression. Without it, they will only anger their own population because they will only say no to war. That is one outcome those in power will try to avoid at all costs because once they lose credibility with their own citizens, their agenda automatically collapses.

In his new documentary, ‘The Lab,’ Yotam Feldman explores how Israel’s weapons industries interact with the country’s politics, economy and military decision-making. Israeli weapons, military technology and know-how become more valuable because they have been field-tested in its wars and combat against Palestinians and neighboring countries.

Former IDF General of Northern Command Amiram Levin speaking at a conference of officers and arms manufacturers: “I want to move on to speaking of Gaza, speaking of Lebanon, and any other places we will occupy in the future. Since we want to maintain equilibrium as a developed country, punishment as a strategy should be the main element. In punishment you have room to maneuver, you decide if you slap them once or twice, in front or from behind, whether to strike property or leaders, but the main objective of units in the field is to kill the enemy. Before he makes contact, while he makes contact, and when he retreats. That’s the most important thing. Quantity is more important than quality. One mistake the army makes is judging each case individually, whether the person deserves to die or not. Most of these people were born to die, we just have to help them.” @ 4min 47 sec

  • Controversial, illegal, and documented: Israeli military strategies in Gaza
  • Hamas mimics Hezbollah tactics, and no one will have stability till blockade is lifted
    • It sure puts the lie to Israel's capabilities in anything but bombing. With Israel having such technological capabilites and not doubt access to US spy satelite info (i.e. ground piercing radar etce), it is amazing that they have to bomb whole cities to dust while claiming they are just "looking for tunnels".

Of course looking for tunnels is just an excuse used for invasion and genocide.

    • I agree 100% with your assessment of Abbas. He has in the past caved inb to pressure from Israel and US. The only PA rep that spoke out against what Israel has been doing is Hanan Ashrawi, who did so very eloquently.

The only reason Abbas is speaking up now after 18 days of slaughter is the uprising of Palestinians in the WB.

  • Humanitarian agencies warn of imminent water crisis in Gaza
    • I agree 1000%. Every attack by Israel on Gaza demolishes critical water supplies.

Israel is following the example of the US/NATO.... one of the first things they do is to demolish critical infrastructure, creating havoc, fear and despair. Past experience has shown that Gazans will not give up, they are strong.

As to your questions, while world-wide protests continue to grow, we can only hope that governments will begin to feel the pressure to tell Israel to stop. Unfortunately, they might only listen to the US gvt....and this only if the US says it will stop supplying weapons. However, with great sadness I doubt that will happen.

There is however a petition circulating for resolution to the UN General Assembly to condemn and call on Israel to stop. This move is being made due to the fact that the Security Council has done nothing. Please sign and share:
