I am a news junkie, and am passionate about human rights, and do not like any kind of violence against unarmed civilians. I love to travel, especially in Europe, and enjoy learning about different cultures, and eating the local cuisine.

  • As Israel 'staggers toward the abyss,' criticizing it is now 'the most fashionable cause' on the left
    • Thank you for extracting this article out. Maybe someone at Haaretz changed their minds about putting out this article. It does not look good for Israel that the EU is once again going against the US and Israel.

    • Thanks for posting. Sounds like a great idea to me. It would be interesting to see if the occupier is going to intercept this Ark, and what excuses it would come up with.
They do not want shipments in to Gaza, claiming it can be smuggling weapons, so what do they think will be smuggled OUT of Gaza, and if this Ark is stopped, it will be for sheer malice, and no other reason. Of course, the occupier must flex it's muscles on steroids, to show how ruthless they are once again.
I hope this attempt to help the Palestinians will succeed, or at least get world attention once again, to the endless suffering of these poor people.

    • I noticed that too Annie, it seems someone yanked that article out, and if I had not read it, I would have thought I was imagining it. Haha. The headline clearly said EU was breaking ranks with the US and Israel and willing to work with the reconciled groups in Palestine. I guess someone did not like that publicizing that article.

    • Just now on Haaretz, the EU breaks rank with US and Israel, and willing to work with Hamas and reconciliation. Looks like US continuously siding with Israel is making it look just as bad, and isolated. Good job the EU is taking a stronger stand against Israel, including boycotting illegal settlement products. The world is beginning to finally stand up against Israel, and give the Palestinians due support. Perhaps Abbas should now go to the UN and bid for statehood, and freedom, and ignore the occupier and it's protector.

    • It seems they pretend to not understand that the criticism of Israel and what their zionist leaders do, is no way connected to the Holocaust. It is convenient for them to lump it all together, and keep playing the victim. The Holocaust is over, and the majority in the world sympathizes with what happened, it is the apartheid policies and brutal occupation, that elicits the anger against Israel. There is a huge difference between the two, but they must not recognize it, because the Holocaust card is also a justification for breaking international laws, like the continuous land grabs. They keep using the phrase "never again" as they continue their crime spree.

    • Great comments by Nigel Kennedy. He is absolutely right, BDS is the only way to get world attention to Israel's apartheid policies. The apologist for Israeli lobbies complains that these lobbies are demonized, but one only has to look at the US, to realize the criticism is justified. From our zionist Congress, to the zionist media, politicians, and our think tanks, critical policies and decisions in the US, are not made without the approval of "evil" Israeli lobbies. When it comes to our constitutional rights, freedom of speech is stifled, when it comes to criticism of Israel. One can say all they want about the President of the United States, but dare not speak openly about the occupation, Israeli crimes against Palestinians, nor criticize the apartheid policies of the occupier. Palestinians are violently killed on a daily basis, but it never is mentioned by our zionist media. Israeli lobbies make sure of it in the US, like they make sure the unwavering support and aid keeps flowing to one of the most disliked nations in the world.

  • Settlers fell 7-year-old Palestinian with stones as she walks home from school
    • The first story is about settler thugs throwing rocks at a mother and her kids (injuring a little child), tell us here, what do YOU think of that?

    • What vicious lowlifes. It seems meanness is second nature to these cowardly terrorists, who pick on little children to show their brutality and hatred. It is hard to decide who deserves more condemnation, these out of control terrorists, or their despicable government that does nothing to halt the endless violence against helpless people. These illegal settler thugs have fire bombed cars, burnt Mosques, sprayed anti Arab graffiti, slashed tires, destroyed and stolen olive trees, burnt orchards, spat on Palestinians, and shown a brutality that comes from uncivilized barbarians. It is strange that the IDF does not hesitate to shoot innocent Palestinians near fences, or checkpoints, with unbelievable ruthlessness, and yet cannot control the thugs and murderers from Illegal settlements.

  • 'NYT' scrubs 'analysis' that Hamas is 'seen in West as the devil'
    • The NYT seems to be doing exactly what the rogue state of Israel and its lobbies in the US want it to - to make the other side, the occupied, and the long suffering, seem like the dangerous, violent side. Yet, facts are it is the zionist occupiers that murder and extract more casualties, have the deadlier weapons, and break international laws.
The NYT and other zionist news media are told to change the wording when referring to the other side. For instance, instead of calling victims "children" when appropriate, they refer to them as "youth", thereby taking the sting out of reporting Israel's crimes against childen. You can always count on those zionist to come up with devious means of downplaying their crimes, while exaggerating the crimes of the other side. If you take a look at the shrinking map of Palestine, you will have no doubt just who the real devil is.

  • Five reasons the breakdown of peace talks is a good thing
    • To think that there are folks who are even paid, to make some disconnected comments, totally ignoring land grabs, illegal settlements, and a brutal occupation, and blaming the victim, is unbelievable. From the response here, I would call it a lame effort.

  • Video: Israeli soldiers detain 6-year-old child on his way to school in Hebron
    • I wondered the same thing about Congresspeople, and why they "seem" ignorant about the horrible violence against little children, and other brutal crimes, as they consistently shower the love, devotion, and endless aid, to those who do such despicable things to innocent people. This is inhumane behavior, and no religion would condone this.

    • Make that vicious, brutal pigs.

    • Why did the illegal settlers allow/encourage their youth to throw rocks at little Palestinian kids going to school, burn Mosques, slash tires, spray paint racist graffiti, and fire bomb cars? What makes YOU the judge of little kids, and call them potential terrorists? How about the terrorist activities of the illegal settlers?

No one needs to "demonize" Israel. By it's occupation, crimes against kids and unarmed civilians, land grabs, and the violence shown by the brutal IDF, Israel is doing a "superb" job of showing the world it deserves the harshest criticism. No wonder it is one of the most dislike nations in the world.

    • Sympathy misplaced. These are Israel's thugs who terrorize little kids, and who viciously shoot unarmed civilians who dare stand near their fences. One of the latest victims being a mentally ill woman, and a poor man picking gravel for his living.
Then let us not forget the poor Jordanian judge, killed at a checkpoint.
There is no excuse for this disgusting behavior against little kids. I have seen videos of kids being used as human shields by the IDF (while Hamas is accused of it), and many other kids being arrested in this cruel fashion. This has resulted in a high percentage of kids suffering from trauma, depression, and stress. Shame, considering little Israeli children live better lives, and do not have to go through such suffering, like their neighbors.
      Science Daily:
Ninety-eight Percent Of Gaza's Children Experience Or Witness War Trauma

"Most children in the Gaza Strip have been tear gassed, have had their homes searched and damaged, and have witnessed shooting, fighting and explosions. Many have been injured or tortured as a result of chronic war that spans generations, says a recent Queen’s University study.
According to the study, there is a pattern of violence against Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip that has serious and debilitating psychiatric and psychological effects.
“Gaza has been an occupied territory for a long time, and still is; Israel controls its borders, its air and water access. It has been described as a vast open-air detention centre” says Queen’s community health and epidemiology researcher John Pringle. “Bombs are being launched into Gaza during this latest eruption of Middle East violence, but are being ignored in light of other crises.”
The Psychological Effects of War on Palestinian Children is Pringle’s Master’s thesis and the only study of its kind, analyzing data from The Gaza Child Health Survey to describe relationships between war trauma and psychological problems in children.
According to the study, a child in Gaza who has had a severe head injury has 4 times the risk of emotional disorder. A child who has been severely beaten has 3.9 times the risk of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. A child who has witnessed friends injured or killed has 13 times the risk of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A child in a refugee camp has 5 times a greater chance of witnessing traumatic events and 4 times a greater chance of direct physical trauma.
“Children comprise 47 per cent of Gaza’s population and are extremely vulnerable,” Pringle adds. “It seems the international community is neglecting them, that somehow Palestinian children don’t deserve the protections guaranteed under the Geneva Convention and humanitarian law. We must remember that where we drop our bombs, plant our landmines, and aim our guns, is where children are born, play, and go to school.”
Mr. Pringle is also a member of Doctors Without Borders (MSF). MSF is an emergency medical humanitarian aid organization that primarily works in war-zones with populations in danger, usually in refugee camps. It was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.

    • It was unbelievable that our dear VP, stood there with a straight face, and said those words.
I am sure many around the world saw the irony of that, too.
Funny, how they have selective memory, and cannot connect the dots, when it comes to Israel.

    • Amigo and thetruthhurts I agree. It seems there is a huge mountain to climb, especially in the US, where unwavering support for a disgusting rogue nation, seems to be the norm, so I have no hope any change will come from the US, but it will come from other parts of the world (thankfully the majority), and the EU has started calling for boycotts, which will hopefully start the avalanche.

    • Actually, the US State Department, refers to these crimes as "terroristic activities" by these out of control Israeli "front liners".

    • Here is some Izzywood for you. The production was cheap, devious, and produced by the official "defenders" of Israel, during the Turkish flotilla massacre:

When it comes doctoring tapes and falsifying stories (and later apologizing for it), the Oscar should go to Israel.

    • What goes around will eventually come around, and it seems Israel is going to self destruct, and face the consequences of their brutal actions.

  • 'NYT' photo feature on women in Gaza ignores Israel and Palestine
    • They have tried various dishonest ways to make it look the long suffering Palestinians look like they are flourishing:

"Health officials provided calculations of the minimum number of calories needed by Gaza’s 1.5 million inhabitants to avoid malnutrition. Those figures were then translated into truckloads of food Israel was supposed to allow in each day.

The Israeli media has tried to present these chilling discussions, held in secret, in the best light possible. Even the liberal Haaretz newspaper euphemistically described this extreme form of calorie-counting as designed to “make sure Gaza didn’t starve”.

But a rather different picture emerges as one reads the fine print. While the health ministry determined that Gazans needed a daily average of 2,279 calories each to avoid malnutrition – requiring 170 lorries a day – military officials then found a host of pretexts to whittle the number down to a fraction of the original figure.

The reality was that, in this period, an average of only 67 lorries – much less than half of the minimum requirement – entered Gaza daily. This compared to more than 400 lorries before the blockade began.

It does not need an expert to conclude that the consequence of this Weisglass-style “diet” would be widespread malnutrition, especially among children. And that is what happened, as a leaked report from the International Committee of the Red Cross found in 2008: “Chronic malnutrition is on a steadily rising trend and micronutrient deficiencies are of great concern.”
There can be little doubt that the diet devised for Gaza – much like Israel’s blockade in general – was intended as a form of collective punishment, one directed at every man, woman and child. According to the Israeli defence ministry, “economic warfare” would create a political crisis leading to the overthrow of Hamas."

      Devious Israel.

    • According to the zionist media of the US, even NYT, Palestinians hardly exist, and should not be referred to, especially the word "occupation" is hardly used. Have we EVER seen any coverage of this conflict from the Palestinian side? Have we seen the miserable lives of the occupied, who have their homes bulldozed, have their water controlled, or the hardships of the Palestinian farmers, who have their orchards destroyed, making it impossible for them to earn a living? How about the trauma and psychological problems of depressed children, who know of no other life, but one under a brutal military occupation, guns pointed at them, check points, and the unmentionable horrors of being dragged away at night, and thrown into Israeli jails, joining over 700 other children? There are plenty of horror stories, that should make headlines, for our journalists to cover in the US, but they prefer NOT to go there.
Hardly any of our so called "balanced" reporters DARE to criticize their mother ship, lest they lose their jobs and called antisemitic. They toe that line in the US.

  • UN peace envoy denied entry to Church of the Holy Sepulchre by Israeli police
    • There is truth in what he says. Islam is the only religion that is inclusive of Christianity and Judaism, and believe the Torah and Bible are from the same God.
The same cannot be said of Christianity and Judaism.

    • At least the Pope should do the right thing and cancel his forthcoming trip to zioland, to protest the discrimination going on against Christians and Muslims.

    • It will not take more than a few seconds for Bibi to make a simple statement condemning Russia, and supporting the rest of the world. All the silly excuses for not doing the right thing (at least to support their main aid giver), will not hold.
Perhaps Israel feels a certain bond with Russia, when it comes to illegal occupation.

    • The racist Israeli leaders, would have howled "anti-semitism" had a Jewish UN envoy been refused entry to a synagogue somewhere. They have shown disrespect for other religions, and have shown arrogance at every opportunity, even restricting Christians and Muslims, from observing their Holy days, but this time they have gone too far showing absolutely no respect for an UN envoy. The brutal occupation goes on, and the US Congress keeps protecting and financing these disgusting zionists.

  • Max Blumenthal's guilt by association – with Jewish ethics
    • Israel has managed to fool the world, cover their crimes through the zionist media, especially in the US, pretended to be victims, while the true victims suffer with no end in sight, managed to brutally steal land, demolishing homes, and kept these poor Palestinians in open prisons, while they use the term "never again" to justify their crimes to all, pretending they are the victims of unarmed, powerless, occupied people.
Apart from these crimes against the Palestinians, the zionists in Israel have been tremendously cruel, and shown arrogance, and a viciousness, no religion would condone. Unfortunately, Jews around the world, have to bear the embarrassment of what Israel does, and surely some must be torn between having loyalty to Israel, and their sense of decency that disagrees with the terrible crimes of the zionist. government.

  • How many 'Palestinian Arabs' want to kill 'all Jews?'
    • Many sympathize with the Palestinians at least outside the US. They know the truth, because it is not blurred like it is in the US. I do not fault the Palestinians for trying to get out of this brutal occupation. I am ashamed that my tax money goes to aid and abet this evil zionist nation. I really wish more nations, especially the Arab nations would use their clout and genuinely help your people. You have suffered for too long, lost so much, and still do on a daily basis. The zionist use every excuse in the book to keep the violence and brutality against unarmed people going. The last time Abbas went to the UN to get partial recognition, it was heartening that the majority in the world, voted and supported the Palestinians. They sent the US and Israel a strong message - that they could not twist arms, threaten, and bribe, other nations to do their bidding. I hope I see Palestinians free and with full rights in my lifetime.
Good luck to all, and may the good guys win.

  • 'Like the NRA, AIPAC sows fear in the halls of Congress' -- Dem consultant
    • Would Mayor Bloomberg take on AIPAC as he has bravely done with the NRA?
We all know the answer to that. The US has been held hostage by the NRA and AIPAC in various degrees, and we suffer the consequences. Our children are being killed by crazy gunmen, who are able to carry deadly weapons in our streets, that should really only be carried by our armed forces, and the Palestinians children are brutally murdered, by terrorists who carry weapons paid for by the US.
Here is a list of Congress people, who are responsible for the putting Israel above the interests of their own country, and judging by the amount of campaign donations, the top receivers of AIPAC donations, are devoted protectors of Israel. Bob Menendez, who happens to be my senator, recently went against his own President, in support of Israel's warmongering with Iran. I am glad I never voted for him.

  • Palestinian youth say the talks with Israel are futile
    • I think you are missing the point, and justifying what is a cruel crime against helpless human beings.
The illegal settlers are a vicious bunch they have destroyed Palestinian orchards, destroyed olive trees, stolen them, and the poor farmers are deprived of earning an income, and suffer the consequences of the greed and brutality of these settlers. The Israeli government is complicit in these crimes, and are doing absolutely nothing to reign in these terrorists and vandals. The IDF shows disgusting brutality when it comes to dealing with unarmed civilians who peacefully resist, or happen to be near the infamous fence, yet do nothing when it comes to these precious trees, that now line the streets of illegal settlements.
"A total of some 7,500 olive trees belonging to Palestinians were destroyed or damaged by settlers between January and mid October 2012, according to a recent report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
Since 2001, half a million olive trees have reportedly been uprooted in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (West Bank). It takes an average of ten years before newly planted olive trees can begin producing fruit. Consequently, the ramifications of this widespread vandalism are felt long-term.
The olive industry in the Occupied Palestinian Territories supports 80,000 families, and accounts for 14% of the OPT economy’s agricultural income."

    • I don't know about "oldest" but many ancient olive trees, even 500 years old, giving sustenance, and belonging to the poor Palestinians were stolen, and guess which stolen lands they now "beautify"?
Here is Jeff Halper taking you on a tour, and revealing disgusting crimes, and the arrogance of an occupier taking advantage of helpless, unarmed, occupied, families. Should make any apologist, if they had a conscience, feel ashamed.

  • Haaretz joins Rush Limbaugh and company in trying to link Max Blumenthal to KC shooter suspect
  • Palestinian writers bring Gaza's hardships to American audience
    • Anything that will bring attention to the plight of these poor people, living under a brutal occupation, and who has no support in the zionist media, is a very good thing.
Anyway they can tell their story, and show their suffering, would be helpful to their plight, since the zionist media, never, ever, tell it from their side of the apartheid fence. Good luck to all. Hope others will be able to follow, and be able to get out of nazi like restrictions imposed on them, to make it difficult to get out of the occupied territories.

  • Fear of Arab-Americans in the public square
    • Great comment. I agree that Muslims are demonized and their religion denigrated unfairly. perhaps the millions of dollars invested on a major campaign to attack Islam, and making all Muslim look like terrorists have succeeded. There are many Islamaphobes like Geller and Wilders, who have this vicious campaign, trying desperately to put Islam in a bad light, with lies and twisted versions of verses, then there are systematic ethnic cleansing of Muslims going on in Myanmar, where thousands of Muslims are being killed, and no one seems concerned. if we do not halt the attacks against Muslims at home, it will soon ignite a fire that we will never be able to extinguish. Hatred and ignorance, and the support for a brutal occupier, ethnically cleansing, intimidating, terrorizing, confiscating of lands, water, and eventually obliterating an entire population, all connected to the campaign against Muslims.

  • Handling holy hypocrisy at holiday season
    • The Pope should not make this trip to apartheid land, because he will be endorsing the crimes against Christians and Muslims, by Israeli thugs and bigots.
Terrorist settlers have attacked a Christian village, showing nazi like tendencies again.
It seems they are using their deep seated hatred against other religions in the most violent ways, and the Israeli government does nothing to halt these terrible crimes.
Zionist Christians in the US must be okay with this violence too.

  • Palestinians can have an embassy in Jerusalem, but God forbid not a capital -- Israeli mayor
    • He lies boldly when he claims the "Jewish Bible" tells them to treat everyone alike.
You have to be naive to look at their crimes against Muslims and Christians, and not realize they are neither following the instructions of they Bible, nor international laws.
They are experts at keeping a straight face when they keep lying. A disgusting habit.
A matriarch of the settler terrorist was asked if she could visualize Palestinians and Israelis living in peace side by side, in that area, and she said never, because they were promised that land by God, and that the Palestinians could never be equal.
They are full of it, from the mayors to the arrogant settlers.

  • Alterman says BDS is helping Netanyahu
    • You are right Sean, all it will take is for the US to threaten to stop ALL aid, support, and weapons, and Israel will soon change it's tune.
When our dear "ally" sold our weapons to China, the US was able to halt such treachery by threatening to cut the aid, and poof, they immediately stopped it. So why can't they do the same?

  • China Miéville: It's become a cliche to talk about Palestine as a dystopia, but when you see Hebron you know where the cliche is coming from
    • These poor Palestinian people have been brutally treated, dehumanized, and have suffered too much. I fear for the next generation, the little kids, who have never known to live in freedom, have rights, and without guns being pointed at them.
How would we, as Americans, have reacted, if we were living this life of squalor, fear, and under occupation? The brutality of these terrorists called settlers, and the pure evil that they show towards those who are in a very vulnerable position, is deplorable, and unacceptable. The IDF who have been equally violent, and selective in their protection of civilians, are no better than these front line terrorists from eastern Europe. If only I could confront my senators and representatives with these films and videos, and ask them how they sleep at night, and why they continue to arm the violent occupation. Israel is a disgusting rogue nation.

  • You know Israel's in trouble when 'NYT' runs op-ed saying it's replacing Iran as isolated theocracy
    • The NYT and the US zionist media have the truth staring at them for years, but they seem to have selective vision, and hearing. You want the truth, you have to leave our shores and look outside. The zionist media has been controlled, and their message totally biased, so although this article may give some hope that things may turn around, usually it is just a fleeting criticism of Israel, soon lost in in silence, and lack of response by our top journalists. The total disinterest, lack of cooperation, and the endless insults by Israel, that the US had to endure, when it tried to broker peace between the occupier and occupied, and the recent refusal to support the US against Russia, should have made huge headlines, and sparked outrage among our media, but we only had whispers of it, after all the zionist press cannot, and will not utter a peep against Israel, even though criticism is long overdue.

  • It's time to reveal the Israeli role in the US surveillance machine
    • Mondoweiss did cover it, and we were made aware of it. If only the US had an ex congressperson, who had the courage to reveal the evils of AIPAC, and if only the zionist media would cover it, like they did in Australia.
Let us not hold our breaths.

    • Yet that Israeli warmonger, Bibi Netanyahu, has gone on this "infotainment channel" far too many times, being interviewed by Greta Van Susteran, Hannity and YES, Chris Wallace, to spread his lies and propaganda, and try to convince the naive, that a brutal occupation and land grabs, is "defending" Israel against the endless enemies it keeps making. Lol.

  • 'Secret' London conference seeks to link BDS to... terrorism
    • Good comment and funny too. Even advanced night repair cannot undo the damage done by Israel, and it sure has a sagging, ugly face, brought on by evil actions. UGH.

    • What a long list of well known products. No wonder dear leader Ron is agitated, he is going to feel the consequences of BDS in his pockets. This is one "secret" meeting we know of, I wonder how many other "desperate" meetings and conference calls have gone on, to halt BDS.

    • It seems the BDS movement is making some who show false bravado, and who pooh-poohed their efforts, afraid. If they really are not making headway in the BDS campaign as hasbaracuda like to say, they would not be having these urgent meetings, and trying to attack BDS by calling it "antisemitic".
In that case the world boycotting Iran must be called anti Islamic, and when the world boycotted South Africa, it should have been called anti Afrikaners? Again the antisemitic card is overplayed to stifle criticism and calls for boycotts. Lame.

  • Israel to annex 1,000 dunam of Palestinian land; Peace Now spox: 'faithful reflection of Netanyahu policy to extinguish last embers of negotiations with Palestinians'
    • At least the EU is making some noise about punishing this shameless rogue nation.
We are aiding, abetting, arming, protecting, and defending their vicious actions, land grabs, and the endless list of crimes, and inhumane treatment, of the Palestinian people. We should be ashamed of our leaders, who are showing such disgraceful devotion to this nation of evil zionists, and going along with this dishonesty.

  • About that special relationship...
    • The US has been "occupied" by AIPAC and has it's tentacles around the necks of Congresspeople, leaders, the (zionist)media, banks, think tanks and businesses.
As long as Israel controls us (and we know it) this is how it will be.
We will be sending endless aid, weapons, support at the UN, support it's brutal occupation and colonization, and Israel will continue to be devious, spy on us, disrespect our WH administration, sell our weapons to our enemies, interfere in our political system, buy candidates, and get away with all their crimes. The US has a parasitic burden that it carries and cannot get rid of. So this reluctance to support the US, and condemn Russia should not be a surprise, Israel plays devious games, and besides, Israel loves illegal occupations.

    • How can Israel condemn Russia, when it has been an occupier for decades, and cannot afford to point fingers at the latest occupier? At least the people of Crimea, VOTED to be part of Russia, unlike the Palestinian people, who have had to live under a brutal military occupation, and have absolute NO choice, but to be victims. For all the unwavering support the US has given to Israel, even when it sends it's precision bombs into civilian homes and structures, for Israel to remain silent about Russia, is a diplomatic slap for the US. It is a shame, that after all the aid, weapons, support, and defending of Israel, the US cannot depend on it's "only" ally in the Middle East, the one that makes even our Congress people obedient, our zionist media refrain from criticism, and who we, the tax payers, keep sending our hard earned money, to keep them safe and comfy, cannot support it's benefactor, at a crucial time.
Perhaps the devious leadership in Israel knows, that to condemn Russia's crime, would be also bringing attention to their own brutal occupation, and really, no one will take that condemnation seriously.

  • Amid 'climate of fear' at Vassar, president comes out against 'action and protest' re Israel
    • That is one long interesting list. It seems most of the ivy league colleges are biased, and ignore human rights violations by Israel.

I noted that Princeton University is also one who defends Israel at this point.
One notable official at Princeton, ex US Congress person, Jane Harman, was linked quite openly to AIPAC:
      "2009 Wiretap/AIPAC Allegations[edit]
In 2009, it was revealed NSA wiretaps reportedly intercepted a 2005 phone call between Harman and an agent of the Israeli government, in which Harman allegedly agreed to lobby the Justice Department to reduce or drop criminal charges against two employees of AIPAC in exchange for increased support for Harman's campaign to chair the House Intelligence Committee.[9] The NSA transcripts reportedly recorded Harman ending the phone call after saying, "this conversation doesn't exist."[10] It was reported that Alberto Gonzales, Attorney General at the time of the phone call, blocked Justice Department lawyers from continuing the investigation into Harman (in spite of the alleged crime) because the Bush administration "needed Jane" to support of their warrantless wiretapping program, which was soon to be revealed to the public by the New York Times.[11]

Harman denied the allegations, and called for the government to release the full transcript of the wire-tapped conversation.[10] In June 2009, Harman received a letter from the Justice Department declaring her "neither a subject nor a target of an ongoing investigation by the Criminal Division."[12]

Most probably there are scores of Israeli loyalists deliberately placed in positions of prominence, to continue the devotion, support, and protect, the brutal occupier.

They continue to do AIPAC's bidding in all American institutions.

  • Israel's brand rides high on NPR
    • Looks like AIPAC has been able to poison NPR and make it yet another obedient member of the zionist media. It is disappointing, but not surprising. All it takes is one zionist at the top, and most probably a couple of phone calls from AIPAC.
Now those who trusted NPR will feel the toxic fumes of zionism, as it continues to brainwash more Americans into believing that Israel is faultless, and a victim.

  • Land seizures-- near Bethlehem, Hebron, Jenin and in Jordan Valley
    • It should make us all wonder, what sort of God has promised this land to the occupiers, and if God is okay with the brutal occupation, demolition of homes, control of the water, destruction of olive trees, killing of unarmed civilians by the fence, and human rights violations of helpless civilians. Which religion condones the evil we are now witnessing?

  • Florida university president who condemned boycott has financial ties to settlements
    • Most of these zionist minions, somehow have connections to, or benefit from, the brutal occupation, illegal settlements, and obviously they are financially better off, when Israel inflicts human rights abuses on Palestinian people. Shame on this woman for not standing up for what is right, and doing the decent thing. She is an embarrassment to the university, a woman with no principles. There are so many like her in our nation, apart from Congress (the most shameful) in the media, think tanks, banks, businesses, you name it, all doing benefitting in some way or the other, doing Israel dirty work, and protecting is from the rest of the world. 25 trips to Israel eh?
      That explains a lot.

  • For Miliband, the road to 10 Downing Street runs through Jerusalem and Sderot
    • I think Ed Milibrand is power hungry, like all other politicians, and knows he has to sleep with the devil, to reach the heights he aims for.
Without the devil, the politicians in the US, and it seems some in the UK, cannot win elections. After millions are poured in, zionist media support, and backing, they win their elections, but the country loses, because they suddenly show loyalty and devotion to the devil, and doing it's bidding, and controlled by it, which even their constituents do not have the privilege.

    • If Adelson buys the White House for Israel, and if no. 10 Downing street is also "purchased" for Israel, the US and the UK are doomed. The two nations will find themselves fighting wars for a brutal occupier, arming it, feeding it, and all our foreign policies will be written in Tel Aviv. Oy Vey.

  • Amira Hass predicts Israel's 'colonial project' will eventually fail--but at what cost?
    • Good comment. I agree that the Palestinians must take the lead and stop contributing to illegal settler's income. I understand there might be some need for food items, as they have been cruelly blockaded for years, and have no access to many items. Still, if they want the world to make a stand, they should show the way.

    • It is heartening to read her words, and she does give the Palestinians some hope, however the part about Israel failing is still doubtful. The UN has predicted that by 2020 the Palestinian territories will be unlivable. The brutal occupier has made sure there is no easy access to clean water, and the blockades prevent import and export.
I doubt Israel would fail by 2020, ( the zionist devotees in the US will make sure they do not), and most probably the world would have failed the Palestinian people by that time.

  • Simon Schama's Israel whitewash
    • Thank you Shingo, you responded better than I could. I agree with what you have said. May I add, the US wall will not cut through Mexican property, deprive their farmers of land, destroying orchards, or prevent them from visiting their families.
      From Wikipedia:
"Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other Human rights groups have protested both the routing of the wall and the means by which the land to build the wall was obtained.[112] The Israeli women of Machsom Watch regularly monitor events at checkpoints and report their findings. In a 2004 report Amnesty International wrote that "The fence/wall, in its present configuration, violates Israel's obligations under international humanitarian law."[113]

      They continue:

Since the summer of 2002 the Israeli army has been destroying large areas of Palestinian agricultural land, as well as other properties, to make way for a fence/wall which it is building in the West Bank.

In addition to the large areas of particularly fertile Palestinian farmland that have been destroyed, other larger areas have been cut off from the rest of the West Bank by the fence/wall.

The fence/wall is not being built between Israel and the Occupied Territories but mostly (close to 90%) inside the West Bank, turning Palestinian towns and villages into isolated enclaves, cutting off communities and families from each other, separating farmers from their land and Palestinians from their places of work, education and health care facilities and other essential services. This in order to facilitate passage between Israel and more than 50 illegal Israeli settlements located in the West Bank.[113]"

    • Well said. This eternal whining about the world out to get them, the hatred for Jews, and the constant "woe is us" is getting to be lame, and has no impact with the world anymore. The deliberate ignoring of why Israel is one of the most disliked nations in the world, is never addressed, and the fact that on a daily basis, Israel is accused of human rights violations against unarmed civilians, a brutal occupation, world condemned (even by it's only "ally") land grabs and illegal settlements, and the abuse of little boys in Israeli prisons, does not seem to factor in their claims of eternal victimization. I also notice that confronted with the facts about illegal settlements, these zionists never refer to, or discuss, that crime.

    • There is much to be done for the Native Americans, I agree. However, some of the things they are freely able to do are, they are able to travel in and out of the US freely, are able to move around any part of the US without blockades, checkpoints, and are not killed along any fence or checkpoint, their water is not controlled, homes are not demolished, fishing restricted, Native American kids are not dragged out of their beds in the middle of the night, terrified, and dumped in jail, with no legal representation or family visits, and not under occupation for decades.
What happened in the past, and out of our control, does NOT justify what goes on TODAY, at this moment, in the Palestinian territories. Right now, we should hold a brutal occupier responsible for the deception, human rights violations, murders, and colonization of lands they do not have a right to. So your justifying these crimes are really, a bit weak.

    • Certainly not from the zionist media of the United States, for sure!

  • 6 DC heavyweights tell Kerry, Netanyahu in West Bank is like Putin in Crimea
    • You are right, and demanding to be "recognized" as a Jewish state, has nothing to do with Israel's safety and security. This is yet another ploy by Bibi, to keep moving that goal post, making it hard for the US to achieve any peace for all.

    • Good point. We should note that instead of addressing what exactly Dr. Brezezinski and his group are saying, they make him out to be the "bogey man". Typical deflect and attacking of those who criticize, or bring attention to, the crimes of Israel.

    • This is not about the Nazis, it is about heavy weights like Brezezinski, and other credible American thought leaders, being able to bravely withstand criticism like yours, and speak the truth. Everyone has an agenda, and if Brezenzinski scares you, you obviously do not like what he says, and the hasbara-like attack on him, and not addressing the content of what he says, clearly shows you find it hard to defend the indefensible.
      Bad try.

    • Wow, I am impressed by these great people. I always found Zbigniew Brezezinski,
a very intelligent official, who spoke his mind, and was very rational in his thinking.
It is up to these distinguish Americans, to speak out, and try drive some sense into our leaders, who still dare not acknowledge, that Israel is resorting to crimes, we keep accusing others nations of. I wonder if this brave group would now be accused of being "anti semitic", as usual.
Russia's occupation was very recent, whereas Israel's occupation has been going on for decades. Decades of suffering and loss for the Palestinians. Time the US stopped being a hypocrite, or selective, in it's outrage.

  • 'There's a lot of anti-Semitism out there' -- Johansson reviews her role as 'new face of apartheid'
    • You are right, it served their purpose to get where they are today, in offices at Congress, the zionist media, and US, under their control.
That overused card has also been able to make certain nations feel guilty, and give the endless love to the victims. The real Holocaust survivors live in quiet dignity, and according to some reports, have been neglected by the Israeli government, who continue to take advantage of their suffering to achieve their devious goals.

    • Good point. The zionist media rewards a loyalist, or tears down those who dare to stand up to Israel (it all depends on that call AIPAC makes, of course).

    • There is also a lot of ignorance out there Johansson, especially not knowing the difference real anti-semitism, and criticism against Israel. It seems the koolaid was given to Johansson, and she must have drunk a hefty dose of it. Perhaps Johansson should spend some time doing some reading and lots of research, avoiding hasbara/Israeli propaganda of course.

  • 66 years ago today 42 members of my family were slaughtered in Deir Yassin
    • It is time the Palestinians were armed and trained to find the brutal occupier, and perhaps help them survive the violence against them. They are sitting ducks, and it seems the world prefers the occupier to keep murdering them.
What a sad story. I hope the writer finds some peace, and happiness, so that he will not be haunted by this sadness, for the rest of this life.

    • They always try to put a "slightly different spin" on everything negative but true, that comes up about about this poisonous nation. Perhaps they are under the illusion that we are simpletons, who believe them, and that we are unable to get to the truth, from credible sources, easily on the internet.
The Jewish terrorists, were responsible for the slaughter of many innocents, and their zionist leaders, like Sharon, responsible for state sanctioned massacres in Sabra, Shatila, and Qibya. Yet, the mindless minions have the nerve to come here, and blame the other side, while they still keep ethnically cleansing those who were there before them.
I have never seen such a evil bunch of human beings, who lie, deceive, provoke, massacre, steal, control, punish, and are basically mean, and then with wide eyed astonishment, cry victim. Never.

  • Australia opposed Palestinian UN bid because foreign policy was 'subcontracted to Jewish donors' -- report
    • Yet another example of Israel controlling other nations, politicians, and leaders, through treacherous means, control, and dishonest machinations. If they can do it, and control, the world's greatest superpower, the US, then others like Canada and Australia, will be child's play. The evils of zionism.

  • Brandeis retracts plan to honor anti-Muslim activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali
    • Some people have taken advantage of a liar, and most probably groomed her, and supported her campaign of hate, for their convenience and devious plans. It is interesting she had a junket trip to Israel, like our Congress people.

    • Excellent points. I am sure certain journalists who had the courage to speak out against Israel, and were viciously labelled "anti semtic" got death threats too. This woman has been caught lying too many times, even her own family contradicting her tall tales, I am glad that she was not honored in any way by Brandeis, for whatever reasons.

    • Let's not forget that millions of dollars are behind these anti Muslim campaigns, and that Geller and Islamaphobic Geert Wilders, are buddies.
Geller has been refused entry into the UK for her divisive and troubling campaign to cause problems for all Muslims.

  • Rioting settlers clash with Israeli police at colony deep in West Bank
    • The fact that Israeli leaders have failed to halt the terroristic activities (so called by the US State Department), protect the unarmed Palestinian people from these criminals, and shown unbelievable leniency when it came to due justice for the Palestinians, have come back to haunt them, even backfire on them.
Cars belonging to Arabs, have been firebombed, tires slashed, Palestinian farmers have had their orchards destroyed, and trees stolen, and the crime list goes on, now the IDF is facing the same problems, and the zionists do not like that eh?
As for the spitting, there is a video of a vicious settler woman, taunting and spitting at a Palestinian family behind their "caged" home, while an IDF soldier does NOTHING.

This settler woman looks like pure evil and arrogant…look like the Israeli government simply cannot control these terrorists. What goes around…..

  • Appeals court upholds dismissal of anti-BDS lawsuit against Olympia Food Co-op
    • I see one of the media favorites of the zionists, Bret Stephens in that picture too.
When it comes to Israel and it's crime he is far from fair, and mostly unbalanced.
Loyalty to the mother ship over his host nation, typical of these so called "American" journalists.
BDS is a movement that is gaining steam, and Israel, it's minions like zionist media, nor hasbara can stop it. The majority in the world (minus the US) know full well, that a rogue state is deceiving the world with tales of being victim, while victimizing, and stealing from, it's neighbors.

  • Chris Matthews gives Adelson and the lobby a pass
    • Chris Mathews, like all other who work for the zionist media in the US, dare not, and will not, say anything negative about Israel, even in passing….if they do, they will be attacked for being antisemitic, and will not find work with other zionist media.
No Jews or Christians working for the zionist media, ever criticize Israel, even when it sends precision bombs into Gazan homes, and murdered children are pulled out of the rubble, in fact they keep repeating the Israeli mantra, that they are only "precision bombing" the terrorists. Last time around 23 children were killed during Israel's incursion into Gaza. Terrorists eh?

  • 'Poof' -- Kerry blames Israel for breakdown of talks (Updated)
    • We should give them high marks for being devious and twisting the facts around, to make the Palestinians look like the guilty party (that has become a habit now), and the chutzpah the hasbara display here, by trying to convince someone (looks like no one to me) that they are the victims who wanted peace all along. I think there is a disease among the zionists, a total blank in their brains when it comes to the crimes, violence, and lies, perpetrated by their country. No land grabs, illegal settlements, and certainly no refusal to release prisoners, as agreed by the zionist colonist.
Yes, what a bubble they live in.

    • Not only the WH press secretary, the media too. We would never hear the truth.
Would anyone in the zionist controlled US media, ever emphasize the fact that Abbas only decided to join the 15 UN associations AFTER Israel refused to release the Palestinian prisoners, as AGREED? Will they mention that Israel kept breaking the rules, while it announced more illegal settlements, during peace talks?
So far, I have only heard the Palestinians getting the blame, even Kerry. Typical zionist controlled media. I have not respect for these pro Israel loyalists pretending to be Americans, in Congress to the media.

    • Everyone knows the truth, except the hasbaracuda, who keeps blaming everyone, even Kerry, for the peace talks failing. It seems the announcements of illegal settlement building, and Israel reneging on it's promising to release Palestinian prisoners, did not happen in their minds.
Here is proof that Bibi is vindictive, and already retaliating to the Palestinians making a bid to be recognized at the UN.

And now the US Congress will say "how high" when AIPAC demands they join in the collective punishment.

    • That was interesting. It seems Israel wants the status quo and not peace, and the US is simply going along with it, making it difficult for the Palestinians.
Coming soon, retaliation from the Israelis, perhaps refuse to release the Palestinian taxes to the victims, and the Congress voting to stop the aid to the occupied., like they did last time to show just how mean and vindictive they can be.

    • Desperate times calls for desperate measures.

Hasbara does not measure up to anything.

    • Finally, a top US official being honest, and deservedly blaming the side that was responsible for talks failing. Perhaps next they may try to down play what he said, and try to once again blame both sides, but for those who followed these ridiculous peace talks from the beginning, and saw time after time Israel show reluctance, arrogance, and violate many rules, this is not a surprise. I would have liked to have heard Kerry say, that the Palestinians have no choice, but to change their course of actions and go to the UN to be recognized as a legitimate state, and that the US is going to support them, but I doubt those words will ever be uttered, while we are under occupation too.

  • Because Rep. Jones voted 'present' on Israel aid, lobby group runs attack ad with burning flag
    • Seems like political candidates are now targeted, not only as a punishment for being anti zionist, but also to serve as a warning to others, you'd better toe the zionist line, or else! I cannot believe that Americans have allowed this alien rogue state, to have so much of influence over our political system, especially when we do not interfere with theirs.

  • 'The struggle for Palestinian liberation has become a mainstream global civil rights movement of our time': CUNY panel discusses the BDS movement
    • If BDS is to succeed, it will take the academia, in all American institutions, to make that fire burn. It will not come from the congress, leaders, zionist media, or even Hollywood - they are steeped in loyalty to a devious nation, that has control over how they act and think. It is heartening to know that our Institutions are beginning to wake up, and will soon catch up their counterparts in other nations.

  • Where is Sarah Ali?
    • I was disgusted when I read this article on Haaretz. The Israeli courts are just as mean and vindictive as the IDF. These are not human beings, they are vicious monsters, who have abused and ill treated these people for years, and still get away with it. I am equally disgusted that our tax money goes to keep them comfortable, and healthy enough, so that they can continue their crimes against their victims.

  • Friedman says Iran's friends include BDS and Jews in Open Hillel movement
    • I just read that article, and wondered who believed the claim that Iran was simply going to "wipe Israel off the map", something we have been told time and time again, even during the time of Bibi's speech at the UN, when he ridiculously held up a cartoon bomb, to emphasize the danger. We are told that this was an "illegal" shipment, but who really knows. Obviously there are greedy weapons dealers in Israel, who wants Iran to have the weapons that could destroy their own nation. Incredible.

    • Poor Israel. It is a victim of it's own brutal occupation of Palestinian territories. It has no choice but to keep building illegal settlements, in it's bid to grab more lands from those who were there before them, and are too helpless to halt the colonization.
I wish someone would have a "shrinking map of Palestine" day, where large posters and billboards can be displayed, around the world.
It would shock many people when they see what the Israeli occupation has done to indigenous people, and just how greedy the zionists, who falsely cry victim, really are.

    • He is just another paranoid zionist, who shows eternal devotion to the mother ship . I wish he would get into his Lexus, and drive away. He simply cannot see the Palestinian olive trees being burnt, stolen, and now decorating the streets in Israeli settler towns, depriving the Palestinian farmer of his livelihood. All he sees is what his zionist mind wants him to, and it is all a delusion.

  • Bill de Blasio gives Avigdor Lieberman the Big Apple
    • It is sickening, isn't it, that one of the first things an US elected official does, is pay homage to Israel, become a defender of Israel, support any of it's crimes, and kiss up to despised Israeli officials like Lieberman? It is also disgusting that newly elected Congress members are given an all expenses paid, junket trip to dear Israel, by AIPAC, and that they have been known to get drunk, and even swim nude in the Dead Sea.
What can't an organized mafia like alien lobby do in the US, after it has US officials dancing like mindless puppets, when they jerk their strings?

  • Israeli restrictions over Palestinian movement violate Christian religious freedom during Easter
    • The IDF does it, even the settler terrorists do it, and yet these poor Palestinian kids are abused, and treated as if their lives do not matter, and it seems there is a huge discrepancy in the punishment and treatment of mean, tough, settlers, and their horrendous crimes, versus so called Palestinian stone throwers (some are simply accused of it with no proof). Settler criminals are even released before serving their sentences, while Palestinian children languish in jails, with no legal representation, and are severely abused (according to UNHCR and others).

    • Not a peep from the second coming devotees, who have been made to believe the Jews will protect everything Christian in Jerusalem (so that they will ignore the brutal crimes against unarmed civilians, condemned by any religion).
Someone should send a memo to the right wingers, and inform them that their fellow Christians, once again, are punished by Israel.
After all, there is only one religion in occupied land, that is entitled to be secure and safe, and the other religion can go to heck.

  • Distracted by the peace process: What really happened during the talks
    • The ICRC list on occupation. Israel has violated most of these regulations, and should be severely sanctioned, and be held responsible for crimes against the occupied.
The crimes are documented by the UN agencies, Red Cross and BT'selem.
The US has been aiding and abetting a brutal occupier commit these crimes.
The US has plenty of opportunity to stop the mindless support of a rogue state, and do the right thing for it's helpless victims.

      3. What are the most important principles governing occupation?
The duties of the occupying power are spelled out primarily in the 1907 Hague Regulations (arts 42-56) and the Fourth Geneva Convention (GC IV, art. 27-34 and 47-78), as well as in certain provisions of Additional Protocol I and customary

      international humanitarian law.

Agreements concluded between the occupying power and the local authorities cannot deprive the population of occupied territory of the protection afforded by international humanitarian law (GC IV, art. 47) and protected persons themselves can in no circumstances renounce their rights (GC IV, art. 8).

The main rules o f the law applicable in case of occupation state that:

The occupant does not acquire sovereignty over the territory.

Occupation is only a temporary situation, and the rights of the occupant are limited to the extent of that period.

The occupying power must respect the laws in force in the occupied territory, unless they constitute a threat to its security or an obstacle to the application of the international law of occupation.

The occupying power must take measures to restore and ensure, as far as possible, public order and safety.

To the fullest extent of the means available to it, the occupying power must ensure sufficient hygiene and public health standards, as well as the provision of food and medical care to the population under occupation.

The population in occupied territory cannot be forced to enlist in the occupier's armed forces.

Collective or individual forcible transfers of population from and within the occupied territory are prohibited.

Transfers of the civilian population of the occupying power into the occupied territory, regardless whether forcible or voluntary, are prohibited.

      Collective punishment is prohibited.

The taking of hostages is prohibited.

Reprisals against protected persons or their property are prohibited.

The confiscation of private property by the occupant is prohibited.

The destruction or seizure of enemy property is prohibited, unless absolutely required by military necessity during the conduct of hostilities.

      Cultural property must be respected.

People accused of criminal offences shall be provided with proceedings respecting internationally recognized judicial guarantees (for example, they must be informed of the reason for their arrest, charg ed with a specific offence and given a fair trial as quickly as possible).

Personnel of the International Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement must be allowed to carry out their humanitarian activities. The ICRC, in particular, must be given access to all protected persons, wherever they are, whether or not they are deprived of their liberty.

  • Apathy in Ramallah as negotiations with Israel dive
    • That's rich. The brutal military occupier, with it's long list of human rights violations and war crimes, going to file war crime charges against it's victims.
This must be zionist comedy at it's worst.

    • I agree. Most definitely the European press, for that matter, the media all over the world, is more balanced in it's reporting of this conflict. The disparity is so obvious, the moment you leave the US. I was hoping Al Jazeera America would operate a little more like the rest of the world does, but it seems they have been stifled too.
You are right, I sense the sympathy towards the Palestinians outside the US, and it will be up to the EU to make a stand for the Palestinians.

    • I hope so Walid, although I think (more emotionally I suppose) that Israel does not deserve any more time, and certainly not another chance.
Enough is enough. Every day that passes is crucial, because zionists continue their brutal military occupation, and the Palestinian people suffer, or lose, even more than they have.

    • All brutal killings, murders, and human rights violations have been mostly recorded, and should be valid at any international court of law. Amnesty International, red Cross, UNHRC, and even BT'selem, have reported Israel's war crimes, and violence against unarmed men, women, especially children.
      M. Abbas should not hesitate to bring justice for his people.

    • They deliberately report falsehoods to make the Palestinians look bad.
Mahmoud Abbas signed those 15 applications after Israel refused to keep it's word (worth nothing really), and he knew the peace talks have failed.
Typical of the US media to twist it, zionist style and make the occupier look like a victim, again. According to the their narrative the Palestinians just love to be occupied, blockaded, resources stolen, and suffer, for decades.

    • Apart from hasbaracuda comments, most people who have been following these talks, know it was Israel that has been putting spokes in the wheel, making ridiculous demands, defying all and announcing more settlements, which we all know is detrimental to these peace talks being successful. The US media is once again dishonest in it's reporting, by trying to blame the Palestinians. When it comes to Israel neither the controlled congress, nor the controlled media, can be trusted to act in a balanced manner. This time Israel's deliberate attempts at sabotaging the peace talks and bringing peace for the region, are loud and clear. No doubts.
To think our congress keeps supporting them right or wrong, mostly wrong, is disgusting.
