This overlooks that with the coming of the French Revolution came the modern version of citizenship which became the right of individuals, not of groups. Religious leaders, including rabbis, no longer were the necessary go-betweens that separated the rabble from the rulers. This released people from the old and necessary group identity to a whole new range of identities based on individual sensibilities. Loyalty was transferred from the group to the nation state. Nineteenth Century rabbis remined Jews in Poland that their loyalty was owed to the nation including the obligation to serve in Poland's military.
"Hear, O Israel" will have to be modernized from the old fashioned Deuteronomy 6:4 to something acceptable to Gorenberg.
When the head of the most powerful government in the world sends the commander of US forces to grovel before a well paid puppet, the world can see unbounded weakness.
Wonderful title. How about, "Indians in the United States of America."
The status quo of course being the junior high school (or is it grade school) notion that Democrat versus Republican is as much sophistication as the US media can comprehend.
Let us guess how many media outlets will ignore this.
Why did Obama send top US general to Israel to grovel before Netanyahu? This is how a world power treats a more than well paid puppet government!
It is wrong to believe that Israel put Obama into this lose-lose situation. It was Obama who did it by his comittment to capitulation whenever there is a conflict.
Is this equivalent to Ethan Bronner getting a bad report card from his teacher?
The power of the Israel Lobby is not AIPAC or even money from Jewish Zionists. It is the US media, of which, the uncontested Lobby leader is the New York Times.
Because their primary loyalty is to Israel, it is unfair to expect American Jewish Zionists to be patriotic to this, their second, country.

Letters: Museum must drop West Bank link
Tuesday 17 January 2012
It is extraordinary, but true, that one of our great national museums is co-ordinating an activity that breaks international law. That museum is the Natural History Museum, which is collaborating in research with an Israeli commercial firm located in an illegal settlement in the Palestinian West Bank.
The firm is Ahava/Dead Sea Laboratories, whose business is manufacturing cosmetics out of mud, which it excavates from the banks of the Dead Sea. Ahava/DSL is located at Mitzpe Shalem, a settlement 10km beyond the Green Line. The collaboration with the Museum is through an EU-funded project called Nanoretox, in which Kings College London, Imperial College and a number of foreign institutions are also involved. The museum is the coordinating partner for this project.
Ahava/DSL is based on occupied territory. It extracts, processes and exports Palestinian resources to generate profits that fund an illegal settlement. Israel's settlement project has been held by the International Court of Justice to break international law. Organisations which aid and abet this process may well themselves be found to be in violation. We find it almost inconceivable that a national institution of the status of the Natural History Museum should have put itself in this position.
We call on the museum to take immediate steps to terminate its involvement in Nanoretox and to establish safeguards that protect against any comparable entanglement.

The Israel Lobby has pushed the embargo against Iran to expensive extremes especially the higher price Americans and most others in the world will have to pay for their oil. An editorial in today's Financial Times chides Saudi Arabia for announcing it intends to see that the price of oil goes from $75 to $100 a barrel. Taking advantage of the US embargo against Iran, Saudi Arabia seems the kind of US ally that Israel is. Add to the expensive farce created by the Lobby's embargo, that all the companies who are owed money by Iran pledged to be paid back in oil, are exempt from that embargo until the debt is repaid with Iran's oil.
At what point did the Israel in "Hear o hear Israel" become the state?
How many in our media took up their cause by rebranding white racists as Evangelicals?
Israel is more recently famous for committing terrorism rather than being a victim of what our media will call terrorism. This may help to get SOPA and PIPA passed by our Congress which remains Washington's largest whorehouse.
The Israeli Jews who run and support their government imagine themselves to be intellectually superior (whether they consider the reason to be their race or their religion, they don't say) to Arabs, Palestinians, Iranians, etc. So why has this happened to the brilliant stuxnet folks:
Hackers disrupted online access to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, El Al Airlines and three banks on Monday in what the government described as a cyber-offensive against Israel.

This must be counted as a media breakthrough. Thanks to you Phil for sharing it with us. It would be nice if our media compared the plight of Israeli born Shamai Leibowitz for reporting on Congresswoman Jane Harman's sharing classified information with Israeli agents.
Who were the lawyers who helped Hitler write his many and varied of laws against Germany's Jews? Good Germans, I imagine.
USrael.
I can't help but notice that the Times has yet to report on Mossad agents posing as CIA agents. Will this ever hit the news in the US?
Our media is far and away the most important member of the Israel Lobby. No amount of money can match their free contribution.
Archimedes: “Give me a place to stand and with a lever I will move the whole world.”
Don't worry about American Jews suffering from guilt by association. This story would actually have to be reported in our media for that to happen.
USrael. A single entity.
I would love to hear from Chomsky how this latest event fits in with his theory that Israel does the bidding of the US, and not the other way around.

It's reasonable to accept that the US media will do their usual best and ignore this. Imagine if a real reporter questioned Panetta, Clinton, and Obama about this! What will people in other countries think when they see that there is no official response from Washington?
You pay for what you get. All that money shelled out to Israel seems not to have bought any kind of leash normally worn by US lackeys.
Notice that Huntsman called for a pull out from Afghanistan.
When push comes to shove Beinart, is a supporter of the newly created and promoted state created by our media called USrael.
For the record, Occupy Wall Street has returned to Zuccotti Park/Liberty Park now that the barriers have been removed.
Speaking of friends in government, here's from a comment in Common Dreams regarding Iran.
"... given the fact that USrael is constantly threatening it with invasion."
That such a country as USrael has come into existence is a tribute to the power of our media.
In the US armed forces in Europe during World War II, the largest ethnic group was made up of German Americans. Would anyone suggest that Americans of German extraction who supported Hitler be deported to Germany? We are not talking about spies but of the politics of such individuals.
\
The Marxist economist Ernest Mandel was well aware of the expulsion of the Germans at the end of World War II from lands where they had been living for as long as seven hundred years.
This relates to the two groups of people who believe there is such a thing as a Jewish Lobby in the US. One is Jewish Zionists. The other is powerless white racist anti-Semites.
A question for Presidential contenders of any party. Is anyone who is afraid to say no to our Israel Lobby, qualified to represent the US to the world?
While our media may use the term "peace process," for Ross, Clinton, and Obama it has always been about a "piece process" Sudetenland style.
Instead of understanding Judaism as a religion with a history, Goodman has transformed a religion into an external object that is able to serve as a protective shield that must necessarily be defended if Goodman is to feel that he is safe. One wonders what it is that happened in his life that caused Goodman to take his religion from inside his head and transform it into a tool to protect him from who knows what.
I just heard that Adam Horowitz and Lizzy Ratner will be regulars on WBAI's Beyond the Pale. I look forward to hearing from both of you.
This is an odd way to make Americans believe that Obama is trying to distance himself from Netanyahu's plan to bomb Iran.
Is Blitzer still being paid by AIPAC or is he now just one of its army of volunteer workers in our media?
Picking up from Gingrich's advice to Romney about "manning up" and admitting his complicity behind the negative ads Romney's PACs paid for, why not ask the same of Obama for his complicity which is more serious than the weaker charge of "capitulation" which lets him off the hook.
Didn't Hitler have a fetish for legalism?
Obama can now ship Paul off to Guantanamo as an enemy of the state.
When prominent Jews start to criticize our media's old fashioned racist anti-Semitic imagry of swarthy complected Palestinians and Arabs, we might give more credibility to their attempts to link white racists and anti-Zionists. The more obvious link is white racist Christian Zionists and Jewish Zionists -- both white-minded extroardinare.
Because she always has been awful we expect her to continue to do what NPR approves of their god awful "reporters." I wonder how she would report on Zionists in the 1930's expelling Jewish settlers from Palestine back to Germany and Austria because of their ill health.
Glen Greenwald reminds us that Saudi Arabia is just one of America's friends in the Middle East.

Christian Zionists recommend that Israel baptize the expropriated land as well to make it more legitimate. As for Christian Palestinians, screw them for not being white the way Jewish Israelis clearly are.
The State Department, like our racist media, considers "Palestinian intellectual" to be an oxymoron.
Hardly the first and surely not the last slap in the face.
We have a situation now in which Democrats in Congress support President Obama's efforts to strangle Medicare and Medicaid. What would those same Democrats do if it were President Paul working to strangle Medicare and Medicaid?
President Kennedy refused to spend funds allocated by Congress for specific weapons he opposed in violation of the Constitution according to your reasoning. I can't imagine a single President who would not/has not ignored legislation he disagreed with.
Orthodox and Hassidic Jewish women in Brooklyn can only have arranged marriages.Such imprisonment suggests that many American Jews are quite happy to look the other way when it comes to domestic politics.
Palestinian Christians have a remarkable number of creeds.
This is where the money is going that used to go to for food stamps for hungry American children and adults.
This sounds like Germany's objections to outside interferemce in its domestic affairs in 1942. Ethnic cleansing and occupation then and now is a strictly domestic matter.
Let's give credit to Bush and now Obama for creating terrorists for generations to come of innocent Americans thanks to the slaughter of innocents in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, . . .
One step backward -- the museum tries to buy her off.
One step forward -- she refuses
Second step forward -- the museum cancels the exhibit
I would like to see two scales. One that puts the power of Jewish members of the Israel Lobby on one side, and on the other side the money they actually donate.
The second scale also puts the power of the Jewish members of the Israel Lobby on one side, but on the other side is the money that people THINK they actually donate.
The point being that it is the THREAT of Jewish money that counts, not the actual dollars. Our media is critical to promoting that threat.
My lines for a t-shirt or pin:
Occupy the White House, because fish rots from the head.
I would only add that the trial of Bradley Manning for revealing war crimes could be understood by Americans if it were taking place in Nazi Germany.
We would like to imagine that the trial of Bradley Manning is part of Germany's history under the Nazis.
. . .
Much later I would come across the words of a German university professor who described to journalist Milton Mayer what it had been like under the Nazis in the 1930s:
To live in the process is absolutely not to notice it — please try to believe me — unless one has a much greater degree of political awareness, acuity, than most of us ever had occasion to develop. Each step was so small, so inconsequential, so well explained or, on occasion, ‘regretted.’. . .
Believe me this is true. Each act, each occasion is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join you in resisting somehow.. . .
Suddenly it all comes down, all at once. You see what you are, what you have done, or, more accurately, what you haven’t done (for that was all that was required of most of us: that we did nothing). You remember those early meetings of your department in the university when, if one had stood, others would have stood, perhaps, but no one stood. A small matter, a matter of hiring this man or that, and you hired this one rather than that. You remember everything now, and your heart breaks. Too late. You are compromised beyond repair.
. . .
But one thing is for certain, time is running out. When you have a Democratic President supporting military incarceration without any constitutional protection, you don’t have many friends left. This is not just a difference in ideology; it is two Americas.
And we may not even get a next time in which to know better how to do it.
. . .

Imagine Obama having to run against an anti-war Republican!
Yes. The world wants to know what was the message Corporal Goldberg dashed off to Klein.
Has the US media ever presented Israeli Jews as anything but white?
It's a truism to state that the US media is disproportionately Jewish, and even moreso at the top. No one believes that every single one of these Jewish editors, publishers, and managers in our print and broadcast media believe it is a good idea for the US to support Israel no matter what. It is a sad fact that not a single one of this group of Jewish bosses has the courage to go public with their criticism of Israel and free their underlings to actually report what's happening on the ground.
I repeat myself, but regarding Israel/Palestine, Remnick was and is part of the problem, not the solution. Take him for his word.
The non-Jewish members of the Israel Lobby are baggage that its Jewish members are happy to welcome aboard if not pay for. When it comes to the Israel Lobby, our politicians bow to the (perceived) desires of the Lobby's Jewish members with no regard by those same politicians for the Lobby's white Christian members, knowing full well that they, for the most part, are very much a part of America's underclass.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. David Remnick stance is to be part of the problem.
Gingrich is committed to taking food stamp funds from lazy Americans in order to help subsidize Israel's socialized medicine.
I thought Zionists shopped exclusively at our Congress supermarket where everyone and everything is for sale.

Why the US & Israel May Agree to Bombing Iran
by FRANKLIN C. SPINNEY
link to counterpunch.org
Ginsberg is invariably tooting the same mono-message on Huffington Post. Why does Huffington Post encourage his droning monotone?
Jew counting is only permissible when counting literary luminaries or Nobel Prize winners. And, of course, only Jews are allowed to do the counting.
Add from Moon of Alabama, that having used these for years over Iran to find evidence of atomic weapons research, the US has failed to find evidence that Iran is doing so. Why not make that information public?
We know that Bronner's new boss is soft on Zionism. This might be a test of her support for feminism.
I did now. Thanks for including the comments in your link which certainly add to the story.
As for the drone landing intact, here's what a L A Times story says: "Another U.S. official with access to intelligence said that losing the Sentinel is a major security breach. The official, who was not authorized to publicly speak about the information, wouldn't say how the drone fell into Iranian hands, but confirmed that the downed drone was largely intact."
link to latimes.com
Who knows how long before the Russians sell the once secret technology.
The notion that there is no defense against drones is a reminder that the person who dreamed up the idea of dropping bombs from airplanes also presumed there was no defense against them -- but for how long would that be the case, he did not ask.
At the September 2011 Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, there were simple winged light weight V-shaped solid flat plastic vehicles/drones flying around controlled from the ground. How long before these are put to military or other use, if that is not already happening? How long before they are flying around the White House?
For a good examination of how it was done and the comments, check out

And still another question. Does our government allow dual citizens of other countries to make policy decisions about the other country for all those employees having dual citizenship, or are Israeli citizenship holders the only ones allowed to do that?
When will there be demonstrations in Williamsburg and Borough Park in Brooklyn against the arranged marriages which victimize Orthodox and Hasidic women?
The US media has no need for instructions from Israel to promote the notion that real Israelis are as white as American white people.
It's a truism that the US media is disproportionately Jewish and even more concentrated at the upper echelons where decisions are made. It's absurd to believe that 100% of these support the occupation and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians. Of those in oppostition, 100% have, to date, been unwilling to go public. The fearful silence of these owners/operators sends a clear message to each and every underling reporter below. Were someone at Jill Abramson's level, to break the silence, think of the floodgates that might be opened.
Just what do you think is the purpose of the dollars of American taxpayers?
I suspect that I am not the only one who thought that Jews for Jesus was another case of out of the frying pan, into the fire.
He uses "Jewish Lobby" when he means the American Jewish branch of the "Israel Lobby." If there is such a thing as a Jewish Lobby created to support Israel at all costs, what does one call those Jews who disagree?
How terrible are the times we live in when it is an act of bravery to put a "Free Palestine" bumper sticker on your car. Nothing newsworthy enough her for our 1% media..
Not everyone agrees that ending military rule in Egypt is bad for Israel. Belief in the Muslim bogeyman can warp a person's thinking.
Marc Ginsberg [without his thinking cap]
Unholy Alliance: Egypt's Military & The Muslim Brotherhood
Posted: 11/23/11 06:49 AM ET
"Despite protestations of its purported political neutrality Egypt's besieged military leadership has been secretly funneling financial, food, and security support to Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood and its allied Salafist parties in the run up to next week's parliamentary elections."
Ginsberg misses that the feared Muslim Brotherhood is committing political suicide by not participating. He also fails to notice that the West Wall of the Gaza Concentration Camp has not yet come down because the Brotherhood and the military have been collaborating.

When she was on the New York City Council Messinger supported methodone centers so long as they were stuck in one far corner of her district, which, by coincidence was the same spot where adjoining districts placed their methadone centers. The affected neighbors were just thrilled to have so many drug addicts take over their neighborhood. She's a classic liberal, a la Bloomberg who has been such a sweetheart for the homeless.
The world is always interested in what the little corporal has to say.

Lawyers File FOIA Demand #OWS Docs From Federal Agencies
The Partnership for Civil Justice sent out a press release this evening announcing the Freedom of Information Act Request which focuses on confirming whether or not federal agencies coordinated the recent sweeps of various occupy encampments. It states:
The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF) and the National Lawyers Guild Mass Defense Committee filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests today with the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the National Park Service (NPS) requesting that the agencies release information that they possess related to the involvement of federal agencies in the planning of a coordinated law enforcement crackdown that has taken places in multiple cities against the Occupy Movement in recent days and weeks.
The FOIA to the various federal law enforcement agencies states: “This request specifically encompasses disclosure of any documents or information pertaining to federal coordination of, or advice or consultation regarding, the police response to the Occupy movement, protests or encampments.”
The Occupy Movement has been confronted by a nearly simultaneous effort by local governments and local police agencies to evict and break up encampments in cities and towns throughout the country. It is now known that mayors and other local officials have met together on conference calls in recent weeks and developed a coordinated strategy to dislodge and break up the encampments using common talking points including a public pretextual rationale to justify police action.
Mara Veheyden-Hilliard, Executive Director of the Partnership for Civil Justice and the co-chair of the National Lawyers Guild’s National Mass Defense Committee, states: “The severe crackdown on the occupation movement appears to be part of a national strategy to crush the movement. This multi-jurisdictional coordination shows that the crackdown is supremely political."

For those who wondered about the likelhood about Homeland Security, the FBI, and other federal police agencies role in these coordinated evictions, take a look at this from the Minneapolis Examiner

"will Obama capitulate to that as well?" Let us know when is the last time Obama did NOT capitulate to Israel.
To say that there should be open debate except for Israel/Palestine, is to discuss the cheshire cat while taking special care not to mention its grin.
