  • NYT fails to report that Netanyahu started air war over Syria as corruption probes close in on him
    • Brewer - I've enjoyed reading through your comments to this article. There's a lot there that I didn't know. I hope you are right that the US Saudi Israel coalition is more bark than bite and that Iran will not be attacked.

People here in the West talk about an attack on Iran in terms of when not if it will happen. I'm sure there's a lot of posturing going on along with ample amounts of misinformation. I never pretend to know what is actually happening behind the scenes but im always interested in what others have uncovered or believe is transpiring or planned.

    • Rob Roy - I completely agree - moving on Iran has been part of the plan for years now (I think everyone has seen the Army Gen. Wesley Clark's recounting of his discussion with the Pentagon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rz5fZziMWEE ). That's not to say that Bibi wouldn't like the West/Saudis to attack Iran soon given his current domestic woes. I have to believe he is lobbying harder now than ever. If bombing Iran is not currently available as a distraction there's always the Palestinians.

It's anyone's guess on whether the drone strike was staged by the Israeli's as a false flag to attack Syrian targets or whether it was a Russian drone used to draw out Israeli jets for a ground to air attack with Russian missiles. One thing is for sure, things will heat up in the area now that a new axis of evil has been formed under tRUMP's control - US, Israel, Saudi - all hostile towards Iran.

  • Resisting 'the new normal'
    • You could have been describing tRUMP in your last sentence.

    • Maghlawatan - Why is it that so many of these utter bastards are Jewish ?

Because so many of these Jewish bastards are Zionists. The fear is that a growing number of white Zionists bastards (the non-Jewish variety) like Richard Spencer are teaming up with the Jewish variety creating a much larger movement or constellation of bastards. tRUMP's own government reflected and encouraged that convergence filling office after office with Zionist bastards (just met my self imposed 5 bastard quota).

As a Canadian I am utterly amazed at how things are breaking down in the US. It's nothing less than shocking, absolutely shocking how much pull and leverage Zionists have in the US - challenging constitutionally entrenched freedoms and respected established norms and institutions like tenure - all done without shame and with malice.

Our only hope is the young and I am hopeful. But this will be a fight for minds and power.

  • NYT op-ed describing Israel as a place of refuge is missing the word, Palestinians
    • Scott

"...but the idea that you can just break into a country and live there seems nuts to me."

Agreed - absolutely nuts. Aside from the African migrants, can you think of another group of migrants that did the same thing in historic Palestine but were never deported?

    • In the hierarchy or ranking of races, Zionists clearly rank Palestinians below the recent African immigrants. Let's not lose sight of the fact that the Africans would be seen and treated as second class citizens should they ever be allowed to remain in Israel - just ask the Ethiopian Jews.

Susan Silverman is a disgusting bigot who is using her anti-expulsion stance to score some brownie points from her leftist friends. That's what these liberal Zionists do - attach themselves to a leftist cause (anything that has nothing to do with Palestinians) to paint themselves as liberals or progressives. This PEP crowd, whom I loathe the most, do the most damage to the Palestinian cause and, imo, need to be called out as bigots and shamed for their hidden but very real racism.

Wonder if there were any liberal or progressive Nazis - perhaps they were the ones that assisted the Jews in establishing Israel through such agreements as the Haavara Agreement.

  • Israeli ambassador devotes much of his speech to small group of protesters outside
    • Ya but at least we treat these primitive Arabs better than the Saudis treat women or gays or Yemenis so the hasbara goes.

    • JosephA - agreed that the conflation of Judaism with Zionism is wrong although many argue that the two are inextricably linked. See for example

      http://www.gilad.co.uk/writings/2017/10/9/judaism-zionism-and-conflation

One question though, why are the "overwhelming majority of decent Jewish people who are not disgusting racists" so SILENT? Is it they are not given a platform to proclaim their equality with others like the Palestinians, or are they worried about the ire of the not so silent minority of Jewish racists or is it mere apathy or willful blindness (assuming one can be apathetic/willfully blind and decent at the same time)?

Love to know how to get the overwhelming majority of decent nonracist Jewish people clamorous for peace and equality in historic Palestine - assuming this cohort exists.

We need to hear from this silent overwhelming majority of Jewish Voices for Peace - perhaps one can start a group - IfNotNow when? Justice for the Palestinians depends on it.

  • Roger Cohen misses the Palestinian reality
    • I'm with Eljay on this - Cohen knows who his masters are and what they want. He wrote to his audience as provocatively as he could without losing his job and seat at the country club table.

Despite his intentional misrepresentations, Cohen went further than most. Granted not nearly as far as the full truth without slant but far enough to get some people thinking, I'm sure.

Ms. Darin is of course correct - no context and no specificity is provided by Cohen - typical of zionist writings. Focus on the shortcomings/faults of the victims (Palestinian leadership in this case), gloss over the excesses of the perpetrators (settler violence, unemployment, funding cut offs, land theft), link the excesses to the shortcomings (without detailing any causation) and never ever provide any meaningful context (the history or law that frames the discussion).

Thank you Ms. Darin for following up on Cohen's slant

  • 'Killing civilians is unheard of' -- Israeli propaganda gets red carpet reception in US press
    • It seems to keep coming up and for good reason this struggle with the term liberal zionist - like there were or are liberal nazis. Phil did comment on my comment about the term - link below.

    • I may be taking some liberties here and im sure some Jews will disagree but as a Palestinian, I often say Zionism to me is what Nazism is to a Jew.

    • Caruthers- all the while claiming Mohamed granted them the USA by divine right, that being Muslim gets you membership in the Muslim nation, that all Muslims have a right to become a US citizen, and that cheeseburgers are and always have been part of the Muslim nations cuisine.

    • The most moral army in the world - napalm for the men on the USS Liberty - white phosphorus for Gazan civilians and cluster bombs for Lebanese civilians. Targets include kids playing football on the beach, UN schools while housing students, mosques during prayer time, hospitals full of patients, ambulances, reporters, the handicapped and pregnant. It matters not when you have taken the high road - a vantage point that makes killing easy.

  • The Insult: Six points toward clarification
    • Never heard of him or his work - Ziad is an Arab Zionist or a Phoenician Zionist (some Lebanese like to rep themselves as Phoenicians to distance themselves from the poor image Arabs have in the West) that must be perceived and dealt with as any other bigot, with disdain.

I've read that Lebanese authorities are not pleased with Ziad. They detained him at the Lebanese border last year and some pretty tough players in the region think he deserves to be punished for his propaganda.

      http://eng.majalla.com/2017/09/article55254506/hezbollah-on-the-attack

Let's hope that the worse thing that happens to the racist Ziad is that he and his work are shunned.

      Let the shunning begin.

  • Pro-Israel Democrats concede 'human rights' issue is killing the brand
    • Devils in the details - thx eljay

    • "Just as Americans can question and criticize the Trump administration while still loving their country and remaining patriots, so too can Americans criticize Israeli policies and its leaders."

    • Thank you Rabbi Gottlieb - glad to hear you believe the trend away from zionism continues for young jews

  • Israeli lawmaker tells BBC he'd put Ahed Tamimi 'in the hospital' by kicking her face
    • “Appalling that @oren_haz was given airtime on BBC 2 ... shame on @BowenBBC 4 selecting him in the first place”

Once again Israel is cast as the victim - the victim of BBC's poor judgement in selecting an Israeli LAWMAKER (forget the irony) to speak on Israel's behalf.

The eternal victims - soon to be the victims of their own demise.

  • Israeli lawfare organization sues BDS activists for advising Lorde to cancel Israel concert
    • ahh the victim card yet again - zionists have made an art of it - a culture of victimhood

these poor israeli zionists didn't get the chance to enjoy a Lorde concert on stolen land violently cleansed of its indigenous inhabitants by the most moral army in the world for God's chosen people to enjoy their divine exclusive right to the land - clearly these concertgoers are victims that should be compensated.

It's not all bad - I hear this guy is available to fill Lorde's spot.

    • Kaisa - can't we just provide Catalan with all the rope he needs? Giving is loving.

    • Looking forward to being told by you, Dr., that you told me so.

There does seem to be cracks in the zio-armour these days. IMO, these cracks are caused, in part, by Israel's continued trend towards fascism which will become growingly harder to defend triggering even more departures from Israel and Zionism while tempting governments/countries to finally take a stance against Israeli apartheid.

IMO, the key will be the departure of Jews from Zionism. They have clout, access and representation in the West that can be brought to bear to change the discourse from Jewish state to a state with equal rights for all.

  • Thomas Friedman justifies slaughter of Arab civilians by 'crazy' Israel
  • 'We are proud of her': Palestinian teenagers on the importance of Ahed Tamimi
    • Eva - great comment. I have a sneaky suspicion you are right about Ben - nothing about Zionist predilections amazes me any more. Vile to the core especially the Israeli variety.

    • It's so difficult to take it all in. Children and their mothers tortured by the most inhumane regime while NYT columnist Friedman and other illiberals provide cover in the West.

Innocents found guilty for being Palestinian and refusing to kowtow to their benighted oppressors.

Thank you Jaclynn Ashly for making this an intimate read through the eyes of the oppressed.

  • Palestinian activists shut down Bethlehem meeting with US officials: 'you are not welcome anymore!'
    • nutjob - your comment confirms your stupidity and bigotry - making you a classic example of a zionist whore.

the US has been a dishonest broker for decades - allowing Palestinians to languish in poverty under a brutal occupation and apartheid regime. it bothers you when you see others actually standing up for their rights instead of bending over as you and your zionist whores have done to earn your keep.

zionists have whored themselves to the US for protection and have whored out the jewish faith, the holocaust and your fellow jews to own an apartheid regime and occupation - job well done. Israel continues to be seen as a pariah, a rogue state that continues to make the top three worst countries in the world. The UN has called Israel one of the worst human rights violators in the world.

All this whoring going on and this is what you have managed to achieve for yourselves? stupid, backwards bigots - the lot of you

  • We'll be waiting a long time for Al Jazeera's undercover investigation of Israel lobby
    • Wasn't able to read the article as a nonsubscriber but the title seems relevant to this discussion.

      https://www.haaretz.com/whdcMobileSite/us-news/.premium-qatar-to-u-s-jewish-leaders-al-jazeera-israel-lobby-film-won-t-air-1.5803936

    • So disappointing - I was hoping the report would be televised soon. No chance of that now. The gulf Arabs (the Beverly Hillbillies of the middle east) are truly a disgusting bunch. Intoxicated by wealth. The path they are heading down will topple their kingdoms/dictatorships - the Arab street (overwhelmingly anti-Zionist) will see to that.

Be nice if there was an investigation (documentary) on why the AJ investigation will not be televised. There seems to be enough information and interest out there to get that done. Perhaps RT America will pick up the ball.

Thanks Phil - lots of information there I was not aware of at all. Time to unsubscribe from the AJ English channel. I'll start posting links to this Article on the AJ Youtube channel informing Palestinian supporters of AJ's backroom dealings with Israel.

  • Trump calls Egypt, Afghanistan, Turkey and Jordan 'enemies of America' for Jerusalem vote
    • Citizen - They never fought along side them as friends but one could argue they did fight above and along side them as foes - thinking of the USS Liberty.

Gifting Israel Jerusalem for using gifted US weapons to kill and maim US citizens and destroy US property - I think that explains why the Palestinians are undeserving.

    • we have bought and paid for your patronage - now do as you're told you shitholes

    • Chuck Schumer - venal politician par excellence. If ever there was a foreign agent in the US government it would be good old Chucky - indirectly bought and paid for by Israel for Israel.

    • Ossinev - the age old question - nature or nurture? I usually fall on the side of nurture but with tRUMP I'm not so sure. I think he is biologically hard-wired to be a dickhead and hence shall remain so - passing on his dickhead designer genes to his dickhead offspring.

  • Federal judge blocks Kansas law punishing BDS supporters
    • These anti-BDS laws violate the US Constitution, cast Israel / US Jews / Jewish organization in a bad light, and introduce the plight of the Palestinians for equal rights to a wider audience.

No real foresight here by the Zionist bigots that advocated for these laws - quite a strategic blunder. Perhaps its time to give the Zionists as much rope as they want.

  • A Jewish 'sickness': Israeli journalist explains young American Jews' support for Palestinians
    • Pabelmont - thx for sharing the link to your blog. Good read.

    • Hummous and falafel too

    • Hear hear - the Palestinians are mere novices. As one I'll venture a lie - Zionism is good for the Jewish people. This is fun - I'll try again - Bibi is a human being.

    • "When someone criticized the New York Times, Yemini promptly pointed out:
And we also have to bear in mind that we are speaking about a Jewish newspaper."

At least the "journalist" got one thing right (can anyone call themselves a journalist these days? or does it just sound better than propagandist?).

Phil - the name of the talk was "Industry of Lies" but did Yemini speak to these Palestinian lies or disprove any of them? It seems to me that getting rid of the Industry of Lies that young Jewish minds are tempted by or succumbing to is easily done by disproving the very lies upon which the industry is built upon. You've got Zionist media darlings like Wolf Blitzer, Ben Shapiro, and Alan Dershowitz to assist - throw in the NYT rank and file as well. These are big names, hired guns, with all the MSM access they want and yet this Industry has not been dismantled notwithstanding that young Jewish minds are at stake.

There is only one obvious explanation - the lies are truths - young Jewish minds are tempted by or succumbing to the truth. To most people that's a good thing.

  • Zionists should be excluded from left-oriented protests
  • In 'NYT,' Israeli minister calls BDS activists 'enemy soldiers' and compares them to Nazis
  • Israeli poet apologizes for comparing Ahed Tamimi to Anne Frank
  • Struggle for equal rights for Palestinians is 'right choice,' and will lead to 'significant exodus of Jews' -- Henry Siegman
    • why would an anti-Zionist not get any MSM air time? because he is a holocaust survivor? because his Papa was a leader in the European Zionist movement? because he is the former head of the World Jewish Council? because he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations? because he is a Jew? a rabbi? balding?

    • Never heard of Siegman but I sure do like his thinking/politics. If someone that was so deeply indoctrinated has managed to break the zio-chains that bound him there is hope.

Thx Phil, great read, hoping Finkelstein gets a chance to read Siegman's article and perhaps feel a tad bit better about the growing groundswell of support for Palestinians rights due in part to the departure of Jews from Zionism.

  • Naked justice
    • Jackdaw - people unlike yourself

    • The Zio-Creed summed up concisely. Thank you.

    • The blatant hypocrisy of Zionists asking that we remember the horrors of the holocaust while perpetrating atrocities on innocents is startling and deplorable.

With every accounting or insight read I am still amazed that world leaders and governments haven't taken the next step and sanctioned Israel or downgraded their embassies or cut off all diplomatic ties. How much more suffering and murder must take place before Israel is treated like the rogue state it is?

Thank you for penning your insights Dr. Kanaaneh and for all your hard work.

  • Radiohead and Nick Cave-- sing with the caged birds
    • Not sure these pseudo self described liberal artists that proclaim their support for human rights care about anything other than accumulating wealth. I'm sure Israel pays a pretty shekel to entice the likes of Radiodead to play in an apartheid regime on stolen land. Get in, make some good scratch, get out and go silent waiting for peoples memories to fade. But their will be no silence - Israel will use these concerts to promote their "democracy" and "normalcy" so that the status quo can continue on and the Palestinians and supporters will continue to advocate until Thom-some-fucking-people-Yorke see the light.

I only hope Palestinian flags are raised at all their concerts to remind them of their hypocrisy. Shameful privileged bigots the lot of them.

  • New Orleans City Council rescinds human rights resolution, igniting the movement for Palestinian rights
    • I wonder if the resolution which never mentions Palestinians or BDS would have passed and stayed in effect if it were brought forth by Tibet activists or East Timor or Western Sahara activists without any Palestinian fingerprints on the matter.

Perhaps that's the strategy to adopt going forward. Be as covert as the Zionists. Draft and support other movements on such resolutions but in a clandestine way.

    • It now seems that you are an antisemite if you champion human rights in America!

  • 'We’re going to have nothing to do with (peace process) any longer' -- Trump threatens Palestinians
    • ckg - lol - brilliant - wish i could get a horses head in tRUMPs bed right next to his half eaten cheeseburger - id have to be quiet so as not to wake up the Russian prostitutes or porn stars.

  • Norman Finkelstein's new book on Gaza is a meticulous account of Israel's crimes
    • Couldn't agree more. I disagree with finkelstein on the 2SS and his take on BDS but I have the greatest respect for his work and contributions - every Palestinian should in my opinion. He is steadfast in his support and a true scholar.

He has been calling on the Palestinians to make this fight a legal one and to exploit all such avenues in international courts/tribunals and forums. Can't argue against that.

I was saddened to hear he has a deeply pessimistic outlook for Palestinians. Not sure the Palestinian conflict will languish like the struggles in East Timor or Western Sahara given there is much more representation and support for Palestinians in the West. Having said that, the status quo can hum along for decades unless and until countries decide to sanction/isolate Israel. Without a punishment or threat of one apartheid shall continue.

  • There are two narratives, but one reality: Palestinian dispossession
    • It's really amazing how daft these Zionuts are. Information from third party sources on the demographics of Palestine pre-1948 are readily available.

I think Boris has fun instigating but he has no idea how fun it is to make him look like a fool. Time to burn your copy of From Time Immemorial Boris and start reading some nonfiction.

    • Great read - Thank you Mr. Levine.

As to the question asked ": what accounts for this influence? Why were British and American leaders, but especially British ones, during the crucial years of the Mandate, so wedded to the Zionist project?"

I say start the investigation by following the money.

Given the enormous unparalleled financial clout of the confirmed Zionist Rothschilds (and their peers like the Warburgs) and their lust for a Jewish state, one would be remiss not to investigate what, if anything, the Rothschilds did or leveraged or withheld or promised or paid or extorted to get the US and GB to ignore the Arabs/Palestinians and provide a Jewish supremacist homeland in Palestine.

One thing is for sure, money buys politicians/elections/power; perhaps even a country.

  • Examining 'Ten Myths about Israel', by Ilan Pappe
    • DaBacle - Refute the facts/findings of Pappe's writings. Show us where he misrepresented findings and facts and use the same standards Pappe uses to make his assertions i.e. back up your arguments with reliable third party sources. Otherwise your comments are nothing but a waste of our time.

I can't imagine how tough it is for scholars like Pappe to go through the rigours of research and writing and publishing only to have the likes of you name call him instead of reading his work and discussing his findings. It's the height of laziness and conceit.

  • White House official: Kushner and Greenblatt haven't spoken to Palestinian leadership since Jerusalem fallout
    • Agreed. Tuck Frump. I'm hoping the Palestinians tell this US administration to shove their Piece Plan in their ...

Time to form new alliances which I believe are out there. What choice is there really? The Saudis have caved in, the US is a zio-lover and Israel no longer has a leftwing. This new axis of evil is not covert - the world knows of their wrongdoings and collusion. I would think Palestinians and their supporters would do better on the world stage if they distanced themselves from US imperialism, a brutally oppressive Saudi monarchy and the Zio nut jobs operating the Israeli apartheid.

Countries are beginning to form some interesting alliances to combat US excesses like the BRICS association. Perhaps the Palestinians can be as creative and look to form or be part of new alliances/associations that will lean on Israel for Palestinian rights and sanction Israel if they misbehave.

  • Netanyahu has taken a wrecking ball to Israel's favorability ratings among Democrats
    • Keith - sobering assessment of which I agree with.

Having said that the tide is clearly changing in favour of the Palestinians. BDS, Linda Sarsour and the womens movement, Black Lives Matter, religious organizations like the Quakers and Presbyterians, the Green Party, Young Turks/Jimmy Dore/Mondo/JVP/Dem Now and many other people and groups are getting behind the cause. There's much work to be done but thankfully more and more people are stepping up. Soon the 50+ generation will parish and with it thier steadfast support for Israel. The generations behind them are more discerning and will see Zionism for what it really is.

Other than cutting cheques to US politicians, is there anything else that can be done in the US to further the Palestinian cause that isn't being done ?

  • After Seattle Jewish establishment honors police department, progressive Jews honor immigrants' rights group
  • Military spying unit to enter Israeli high school curriculums in search of recruits
    • The Zionists have a captive helpless populace that they can do with as they please - conduct experiments, surveil and test weaponry without any real oversight and away from any outside influence or eyes.

Truly grotesque demonstration of corrupted unchecked power and unabashed bigotry. Hope I'm around to see it all implode.

  • Open Letter to Ben Jealous: Please take a progressive stand on Palestine
  • Why is the Israeli army finally worried that Gaza is on the brink of collapse?
    • "But the survey does at least suggest that Israel’s top brass may be open to new thinking, after decades of treating Palestinians only as target practice, lab rats or sheep to be herded into cities, freeing up land for Jewish settlers. Has the army finally understood that Palestinians are human beings too, with limits to the suffering they can soak up?"

The same army that has and is using Gaza as its military arms testing site is now concerned about Gaza? No chance - there may be changes to how the military deals with Gaza but we would be fools to believe those changes have anything to do with Palestinian suffering.

  • After disturbing tour of Hebron, Roger Cohen takes a step away from Zionism
  • Aren't Ahed and Nariman Tamimi women too?
    • JWalters - Does a Zionist Hollywood cabal exist? Some notable Hollywood actors have had their careers disrupted and or ended for answering that question in the affirmative. They were accused, of course, of being antisemitic. Hope you don't have any plans to act on the big screen.

I'd pay to see a debate between Linda Sarsour and Scarlett Johansson - give Scarlett the new Wonder Woman bigot, Natalie Portman, and Roseane Barr and still no contest. The truth is the truth and bigotry is bigotry.

    • Great work.

    • Marnie - it doesn't take long for the zionist criminals to paint everything antizionist as antisemitic. Thanks for sharing that.

    • Thank you so very much Nada - I so enjoyed reading your article. Wonderfully written about perhaps the most exciting arm of the movement for Palestinian rights. Women's rights and Palestinian rights converging to liberate the oppressed - nothing could be better.

Perhaps it's more befitting for Scarlett Johansson to be the spokesperson for the Zioness Movement - handing out SodaStream cola's to quench their thirst for supremacy.

  • Once again, 'NYT' says Judaism = Zionism
    • “On campus after campus, the B.D.S. movement — Boycott, Divest and Sanction Israel — has driven a wedge between Jewish students and students of color, challenging university administrations and straining the traditional bonds between Jews and other minorities.”

Ya BDS is the culprit here not the racist violent tenets and actions of Zionism and Zionists. All BDS has done is provide a platform to expose Zionism for what it truly is - minorities can decide on their own whether to support a violent criminal apartheid regime and brutal occupation or the victims.

  • Braying donkeys
    • Vergangenheitsbewältigung - "In Germany, and originally, the term refers to embarrassment about and often remorse for Germans' complicity in the war crimes of the Wehrmacht, Holocaust, and related events of the early and mid-20th century, including World War II. In this sense, the word can refer to the psychic process of denazification." - wiki

When all the designed brutality and racist beliefs of Zionists and Zionism is fully documented and exposed to the world and the process of dezionification occurs, I have to believe all those complicit in the crimes against the Palestinians and the world will feel a collective shame and guilt (some (perhaps the liberal zionists) more than others no doubt). I wonder what the word will be in Hebrew to coin this sentiment.

Nakba memorials and museums will hopefully keep alive the memory of all the brave souls who fought Zionism's excesses and serve to deter and combat against racism just like all the Holocaust memorials and museums throughout the world have so effectively done . Never again right?

    • Ben-Gurion - “We view them like donkeys. They don’t care. They accept it with love…”

Not sure I have ever read anything so racist and from a leader of a country at that. Psychologists call this "Projection."

"Projection is a symbolic process by which one’s own traits, emotions, dispositions, etc are ascribed to another person. Typically accompanying this projection of one’s own characteristics onto another individual is a denial that one has these feelings or tendencies."

Good riddance - hee haw hee haw

Thank you Dr. Kanaaneh for a well written and informative read and all the hard work done to make the lives of Palestinians better.

  • Documentary on Israeli-Palestinian dialogue -- 'Pomegranates' -- leaves the viewer even more despairing
    • Ejay- so perfectly worded - whenever I get asked by people that know little about the plight of the Palestinians I break it down, just as you have, to simple basic terms describing the forced dispossession of land, theft of culture, brutal violence, racist laws, etc.

It is so effective - who can fault any one for being angry and fighting back when "... someone occupied their house and killed the father and raped the mother, etc., and kicked out the children..."

    • oldgeezer - An accurate summary. The Green Party leader is why the party did not fully adopt BDS despite the best efforts of senior party members. She almost resigned over the whole pro palestinian push in her party. I was hoping she would.

It remains to be seen how far the NDP will go but I'm not expecting anything shocking. They are not a player at the federal level but may be in a few years with the right leadership.

I used to vote liberal but Trudeau is a Zionist stooge and not very bright - his environmental record is also substandard. He's more concerned with how his hair looks than the country or world.

    • Great news coming from one of the three major parties in Canadian politics. The Green Party of Canada (not one of the three) is about as good as it gets in terms of political support for Palestinian rights. They stopped short of endorsing BDS.

Ya - it must have been much less challenging for the Tamimi's to sit across from their zionist oppressors that have exacted enormous violence on them and their compatriots.

"A person who makes videos that promote a kind of anti-Zionism that can so easily cross over into anti-Semitism and make the world a more dangerous place for Jews."

Zionists make the world less safe for Jews and last I checked are becoming supremely antisemitic - just ask JVPs members.

"It was difficult to imagine encouraging one’s children to throw stones at soldiers. And it was disturbing to watch the Israeli military respond with tear gas and violent arrests."

Its always the Israelis responding to Palestinian aggression - never freedom fighters resisting their oppressors - whether children are throwing stones or playing soccer on the beach they are targeted by the most moral army in the world.

    • I grew up in Canada, having immigrated there after the 1967 war, just before my 3rd birthday. The Orthodox Christian Ukrainian community was kind enough to allow us Christian Palestinians to pray in the churches (something my parents are forever grateful for). Once enough money was raised we formed our own church which continues today. It was at our church where I began to get a sense of what Palestinians (at least the Christian variety) thought about the proposed 2SS. I can't tell you how many times I heard from them that the 2SS would be a miserable outcome for Christian Palestinians.

They feared that a Palestinian state under Palestinian rule would be an Islamic state funded by Saudi, the UAE and other Gulf Arabs. True democracy, they believed, would never be granted to the minority Christians or any other minority within this new republic. Many went as far as to say that Christian Palestinians would be better off in Israel proper than an independent Islamic Palestine. What all of them wanted was to return to their olive orchards, to smell the orange blossoms, to pray at their holy sites, to eat their local fare, and unite with family and friends in the land that their ancestors have lived in for hundreds of years. The ONLY way they could achieve this, so I was told, was to be granted equal rights - period.

Years later in university I heard the same calls from both Christian and Muslim Palestinians. No one ever believed that a carved up Palestine would lead to true justice and a good life for all Palestinians. They called for the bloodshed to stop and for Palestinians in the OT and Israel proper to be given equal rights – period.

Years after that I began to solicit the opinions of Palestinians who managed to make their way from Palestine to Dubai where I was living and working. I was unsure of whether the opinions of Canadian Palestinians differed from the opinions of Palestinians who had only recently left Palestine/Israel. To my amazement, the differences were insignificant. Instead of being angry and calling for all Zionists to be removed from historic Palestine they, once again, spoke about equal rights for all under the law. They do not want to be herded and corralled into 22% of their ancestral lands - they want to be able to enjoy all of historic Palestine.

All this to say that the 1SS with equal rights for all has always been part of the discourse for Palestinians. It has never been given the publicity it deserves until recent times. There is a simple reason for that - a 1SS with equal rights for all has a nice ring to it, is easy to understand and is in line with what most colonial settler states have done in their inadequate attempts to right the wrongs of the past. Indigenous populations in N. America, New Zealand and Australia, for example, provide all their citizens with equal rights under the law. Had the 1SS with equal rights message been sincerely presented and often by the MSM, I am certain that the plight of the Palestinians would have had much more popular appeal/support in the West.

The Palestinians are desperate, made so by the greed and criminality of the Zionist invaders for obvious reasons. The more desperate the Palestinians get the easier it will be to placate them with small offerings (like 22% or less of their historic homeland) so the Zionists hope. This tactic has had some success with many Palestinian leaders calling on their compatriots to be realists and support a 2SS as detailed by the UN. Messrs. Finkelstein and Chomsky (who I both have the greatest respect for) are of the same belief believing that a 1SS has no viable support in Israel or abroad. What they don’t realize is just how desperate the Palestinians (particularly the young) have become and that being a realist for Palestinians in Israel and the OT means realizing that the US was never an honest broker (pigs don't fly), the 2SS is and always has been a sham - a stall tactic that has allowed for the very real confiscation of Palestinian land and the very real denial of basic human rights.

I, of course, will support whatever the Palestinians in Palestine and Israel want for themselves and will do my best here in the West to assist – 1S or 2S - theirs to decide. When I am solicited for my opinion, I side with the 1SS. Always have.

    • Perhaps I am being a bit lazy but I've only got my phone this weekend to read from and I'd really enjoy reading up on why many commentators here are suspicious of JVP's relationship/views with and on Zionism. It comes up often and has a couple of times just in this comment section.

I was upset to read about JVP's stance on If Americans Knew and Alison Weir (which I disagree with whole heartedly) but I've briefly read that JVP has denounced Zionism and did so in their last annual conference.

Can anyone point me to something recent (2017) that casts a suspicious light on JVP and their commitment to rid the world of Zionism.

    • Marnie

You may be right about the self destructive nature of a majority of Israeli jews (I sincerely hope you are not as you are). Given these tendancies and the nuclear arsenal Israel has at its disposal, ridding Israel of Zionism may be an apocalyptic endeavour.

I'm betting there's more bark than bite from the Zionists and enough money to go around to placate the ones that have their finger on the button. Having said that, a rogue nation with nukes is a global threat and one that won't cave easily.

  • What Palestinians can learn from South African anti-apartheid struggle
    • Citizen

All your points are, IMO, spot on as to why the Palestinian struggle to end Israeli Apartheid is much more difficult.

Unlike the ruling white racist elites of apartheid SA, the Zionists are everywhere and well established and entrenched in the west and in all the influential industries from mass media to politics. They provide cover and have been keeping the status quo for decades while the hardcore Zionists go about the business of exterminating Palestinians and our culture along with confiscating land. Any push back and out comes the antisemitic card to defame the source.

Western familiarity with slavery and the struggles the Black community has faced and continues to face did serve to make boycotting aparthied SA much easier to get behind. The history and struggles of the Palestinians are still largely unknown to the average westerner, for now.

The lack of a united Palestinian political leadership is also a substantial hindrance. There are many reasons for this not the least of which is Zionist money and violence. The Zionists have created a desperate vulnerable population where individuals are easily dealt with. Bribing, jailing or killing political leaders has played a large role in ensuring political disarray.

But, despite it all, I remain hopeful.

Liberal Zionists, who I believe make up the great majority of influencers in the West, are starting to turn on Zionism. The more that do the less cover that is provided - the NYT has recently published a couple of articles that suggest Zionism is being sincerely assessed by many liberal Jews. Weaning off of Zionism will take time but we know it's possible and happening more and more.

BDS is educating young students on the injustices exacted on the Palestinians and leaders like Linda Sarsour have popular appeal with a relatively uncontroversial (or at least familiar) message - equality for all under the law. The plight of the Palestinians is becoming a staple cause in the political left along side the plight of women, blacks, other ethnic minorities and the LGTB community. The Palestinian brand is starting to gain some recognition.

As far as Palestinian leadership goes, I suspect it will take the informal leaders of the movement to unite the politicians - leaders like Ms Ahed Tamimi may serve to rally all to stand together no matter the consequences. At least I hope so. I say hope because when a leader emerges the Zionists are quick to counter aided by an accommodating MSM that either defames or ignores the person or message. The power of the internet is the only chance the Palestinians have to combat Zionist hasbara and have their stories heard and leaders popularized, praised and followed.

Zionism has a shelf life but the expiry date is still unknown.

"... i know lots of anti zionists who are ex self defined liberal zionists."

Perhaps something like the 12 step program for addicts is appropriate to wean Zionists off of thier supremacy addiction in faster order. Here is a bastardized somewhat pirated version with one additional step:

      1. We admitted we were powerless over Zionism – that our lives had become unmanageable as bigots
      2. Came to believe we couldn’t solve the problem on our own, but that the group power of non-zionists and Palestinian humanity could restore us to sanity.
      3. We each nominated greater powers to remind us there are things bigger than ourselves – then we began to let go of self-will.
      4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
      5. Admitted without reservation to ourselves and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
      6. Every few months made a shortlist of our defects most in need of attention.
      7. Made it a project to minimize one or more of our worse faults and improve our behavior.
      8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
      9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
      10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
      11. Sought through prayer and or meditation to improve our spiritual awareness and our understanding of the non-zionist way of life and to discover the power to carry out that way of life.
      12. We admitted to ourselves and openly proclaim to all zionists that hummus is not an Israeli dish nor is meze, stuffed grape leaves, or tabouli and that Rachel Ray is an idiot.
      13. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to zionists, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

    • "The reason that Israeli liberals are viewed with contempt by the left is that they have more pity for themselves than for the people under the Israeli boot."

Well summed up - thanks Philip. I would only add that the left is starting to view all "liberal Zionists" with contempt. Linda Sarsour being one of many leading the charge.

As you rightfully point out, it's not like these liberal Israeli's have seen the light, understand the evil that Zionism is, feel the need to repent, to sympathize with or have empathy for the Palestinians, none of it. They only feel the coming defeat. No remorse. No self reflection. Only the realization that the alternatives are either long gone or too painful or detrimental to entertain.
