  • Trump's path to 'most pro-Israel' president paved by bankruptcy expert and real estate attorney who once lived in a settlement
    • No. As if 'that' carries a Sigma (PhiEpislon as in "building better men") ? Wait, settlement, not university. The shtelment just carries the stench of oppression. No stigma, sigma or enigma, just straight out farshtunken.

    • I tried, but just looking at that name and title gives me acid reflux. Actually saying that name and title caused uncontrollable emesis. zionist leader is quicker, but if you want it fancy and all, how 'bout Racist Jackass Zionist Leader. how's that honey?

    • I agree with you Kay24, I really do and this is mondoweiss, and the focus is the middle east, but there are millions upon millions of americans who are being marginalized right this minute by the make america hate and make america white crowd, his loyal brownshirts or redshirts or whatever they'll call themselves. Did you see this? Day One in Trump’s America

  • 'Trump shows America's dominant ideology': A Palestinian take on the US election
    • "Why not deal directly with Israel......."

Why not? Maybe this will help you -

Dealing with israel would be like asking a vegetarian to get help adding meat to his diet by Hannibal Lecter.

Dealing with israel would be like asking victims of sexual assault to get one-on-one counseling with the likes of anthony weiner, donald tRUMP or bill cosby.

Dealing with israel would be like asking the zionists of 1937 or so to make a deal with the nazis......wait, never mind that one.

    • "I suspect you have an unrealistic idea of America’s standing in the world. "

If you mean that I expect it's standing is greater than it actually is, I agree.

    • "there is a good point when they say that we get what we vote for, and for the consequences of such a decision, which would be felt in every corner of the world."

Being the 'only superpower' (hate these descriptors - unbelievable arrogance) comes with a lot of responsibility. If the u.s. hadn't been acting like the world police since the end of ww2, who cares what you do or who you vote for. But the meddling into other countries affairs and other countries election processes is a hallmark of superpowerness. A Donald tRUMP presidency or HRC presidency will have tremendous negative impact on the rest of the world, not just americans. It's a scary time to be human.

    • I think an invasion of the u.s. for their terrible choice of president may be in order. They obviously can't vote in their best interests and are in need of a strong intervention. Friends don't let friends elect the lesser of two evils. The whole election should have been boycotted.

    • He definitely doesn't like women. His marital history isn't a testimony to his love of women. Jesus RoHa, what are you on? That doesn't equal respect or seeing women as anything other than body parts. He's the man who believes women must be 'punished' in some way for abortion. I'm guessing, provided the woman is attractive enough, a spanking at Trump's tower of power.

What's going to happen with that rape case I wonder? It will vanish into the ether. Just like america's standing in the world.

      misogynist

A person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women.
      ‘a bachelor and renowned misogynist’

    • I think my sister voted for trump. She tried to tell me that maybe 'health care' will 'get fixed now' and the 'government will help the people'. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I told her that Hitler was going to be a man of and for the volk, and get the trains running on time and get rid of the 'vermin'. I don't live there anymore, I haven't been back since I left many, many years ago, but my family and my husband's family are all there and I'm worried for them. I'm not surprised about the election results. I think both choices were deplorable and think Bernie should have kept his ass out of the race if he wasn't planning on fighting all the way and I'm pretty sure he could have gotten the nomination, instead he bailed out and told his millions of angry, hurt and resentful supports to vote for HRC.

The united states has done irreparable harm to people all over the world, in the name of oil and mineral wealth hidden with the cloak called democracy. It has harmed her own citizens of color, before they were considered citizens and to this day. The u.s. is proud and arrogant, but hasn't yet atoned for the crimes commited against the indigenous people of the land and the Africans captured and transported to build the country. Something's gotta give, and this might just be it.

  • Groping and crying
    • Wandering through Oz this week (Jerusalem Post) I read an article pertaining to Shavit and was astonished at the vitriol in the comments section - not against Shavit's sexual predations, no. The comments were angry bytes wrt his 'lies' about the state of israel vis a vis My Promised Land, his being a 'leftist', etc.

The right is vewy, vewy angwy.

  • 'Atlantic' editor says that Israel's 1948 expulsion of Palestinians was not 'a tragedy'
    • You know what? It would be really swell to have an actual 'American black person' answer the question of whether he or she were tired hearing about slavery, instead of white folks assuming to know.

If I were an American black person, I'd be tired of hearing about slavery as if that were the ONLY HISTORY I HAD.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the holocaust is the only history jews have, is it? It has become a prop of the zionists and their enablers. That is disgusting.

  • Ari Shavit’s humiliating fall from grace: AIPAC, Hillel cancel events in wake of groping story
    • If Ms. Berrin wasn't as 'telegenically' attractive, would this have gotten so much attention? A less attractive woman would be humiliated by the real dogs of the media for not being cute enough so of course, the story can't be true.

We just can't catch a break. There's always something wrong with us. We're either too old, young, smart, stupid, light, dark, ball-busting bitches, nags, thin, fat, cold or dogs.

Don't excuse shavit's behavior because she was such a beauty that he couldn't help himself. Really? I have a hard time believing this is shavit's first rodeo. His 'apology' sounds like it's had practice. Ms. Berrin didn't ask or allow shavit to touch, grope, kiss or proposition her and since he did without her premission, it's called a crime.

Maybe he could interest playboy or penthouse or even jugs to get his focus off sex in the bathrooms unless he'd like to be a contributor to playboy or penthouse.

    • 'She added later, “I am glad Ari Shavit has at least acknowledged an encounter took place. As a committed Jew, I am always open to the possibility of forgiveness and redemption.”

“But Ari Shavit has yet to apologize for what he actually did; he did not apologize for committing sexual assault,” Berrin said."

I think his being able to return to his post at Ha'aretz should be contingent on that very thing. Thank you for coming forward.

  • A game of cat and mouse in the Jordan Valley
    • "The last time I visited Al Hadidiyye, our host Abu Saqr took us on a tour to see water cisterns which were demolished in the early years of the ’67 occupation. Some bureaucrat actually sat and mapped all of the water cisterns used by Abu Saqr and all other Palestinians in the Jiftlik-Tubas-Tamun area, and ordered to systematically destroy them all. What that war-criminal understood in his sick mind was that if you deprive a people of water and livelihood, you can quietly displace them in a way that is invisible to international media."

Those bureaucrats have quite a history of coming up with 'solutions'.

"Just an example showing that the boycott movement should focus on the Israeli economy as a whole, and not attempt the logistically impossible task of differentiating settlement products from products produced in so-called “Israel proper.”

Couldn't agree more. The 'lines' have become purposely blurred - boycott all products from 'israel'.

  • Israel paints fighter jet pink to raise breast cancer awareness while preventing cancer patients in Gaza from receiving treatment
    • "After putting that basic facts that you chose to ignore, I want to praise Israel, which despite the state of war, is giving critical life-saving treatments to Palestinian patients in Israeli hospitals. Even the price she charges the Palestinians, from Gaza Strip and Judea & Samaria, is a discounted price. All this at the expense of the citizens of Israel that pay state health care tax for life."

Let me remind you of the huge basic fact you ignore and that is none of this would be happening if 'israel' wasn't in the 24/7 business of maiming and murdering Palestinians, be they in Gaza, the West Bank or Tel Aviv. The 'citizens of israel' don't pay for anything - its the Palestinians who've paid for it all. The 'citizens of israel'? There is no such thing as an 'israeli citizen' unless that person is Palestinian. All 'israeli' jews are either going to be in the IOF, have been in the IOF or are on active duty in the IOF, don't you agree?

    • There isn't a hell hot enough for these criminals. I pray for redemption for Gaza and all the occupied territories and that these criminals pay for their crimes.

  • 'Personally I was glad to see the outpouring of anti-Semitism,' says Jewish journalist targeted by haters
    • " she was glad to see the outpouring of anti semitism. i found it revolting."

I find it revolting too. Someone who is 'glad to see the outpouring of antisemitism' can only be an israel firster, a rock solid zionist. Reminds me of netanyahoo on his Israel is the only safe home for the Jews tour in Paris after charlie hebdo. The more danger, real or imagined, the better it is for the zionist enterprise as they need a steady supply of useful idiots. What keeps it going (besides the u.s. and other enablers) after all, is not because it's 'a light to the nations', a place where the mantra is 'justice, justice, you shall pursue'. Oh hell no. Instead the mantra is 'god gave this land to the Jews' and 'death to the Arabs'.

I found her honesty refreshing and horrifying at the same time. The ghost of ben gurion.

  • Israeli Defense Minister says next Gaza war will be the last 'because we will completely destroy them'

      mondoweiss.net/2014/08/knesset-genocide-against

I think lieberman/liberman/liarman is speaking in code and the aim is (and has always been) for the extermination of every living thing in Gaza.

  • Israel supporter refuses to share Bard stage with Dima Khalidi and cites stereotypes about Jews smelling bad
    • “One of the historical stereotypes of Jews is that they smell bad. You don’t have a debate about whether Jews smell bad or not. You can have a discussion about what are the the reason why historically some non-Jews have developed kind of disgusting and false stereotypes about Jews. But you don’t get into whether gentile breath is fresher than Jewish breath.”

Holy shit what a screwball! I've never ever heard anything quite like this, is he for real?

If he's worried about his breath though, honestly, follow tRUMP's lead and pop a few Tic-Tacs. Just in case you have to talk to a non-Jew.

  • Jeffrey Goldberg is Jewish
    • "Now I state that Goldberg’s Jewishness is central to his career, at a time when Goldberg is trying to pivot from that role; and I’m evil. As I said, it’s laughable."

There's nothing more subversive than stating the obvious. I agree with pabelmont's pov and I think goldberg should be countered for his zionist bona fides. Anyone can be a zionist after all. Anyone can be a Jew. Oh well, up is down, right is left, black is white, etc. The world of Goldberg is very frightening to me.

Thank you for not backing down or away from this creep and his supporters/enablers.

  • Clues to the end of the world shared during final 2016 presidential debate
    • "just listened to Trump’s policy speech in Gettysburg and watch out Zionist Lobby; Trump’s gunning for foreign interlopers and foreign influence on government and policy".

Thanks for providing the only reason for me to hate him a little less that clinton, but they are both horrible, horrible choices. Here's the choice (between trump and hrc) how do you want to go - burned at the stake or beheaded? How about both?

  • Israel's bogus history lesson
    • I'd like to think that the 'world powers' would get off their collective behinds and do whatever it takes to end this colonial nightmare and I hope so for the sake of Palestinians who are sick of this 70+ year illegal, unending attempts to wipe them off the map: first, their physical bodies, then demolish their cities and towns, destroying their livelihoods and livestock, robbing their children of their childhood and security, etc.

    • Will the zionist eternal victimhood ever end?

  • B'Tselem calls on world to 'intervene' to stop 'more perfect occupation,' and Netanyahu goes ballistic
    • By Michael Schaeffer Omer-Man
      |Published October 21, 2016

Netanyahu's coalition whip wants to revoke B'Tselem director's citizenship

"Senior Likud official, angry that Hagai El-Ad demanded the UN act to end the occupation, admits there’s no legal avenue to strip his citizenship — at the moment. The Israeli human rights organization says threats won’t deter it.

“I examined whether, legally speaking, if I can ask the interior minister to revoke the citizenship of B’Tselem’s executive director,” declared the Israeli parliament’s coalition chair, David Bitan, who serves as the whip for Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party.

“I checked, and there’s no legal avenue for doing so today,” Bitan told Israeli television’s Channel 2 on Friday (Hebrew). “But we must strip his citizenship.”

Another beacon of light from the only demoncracy in the ME. Yeah, right.

    • Hagai El-Ad, one of the most courageous israeli's I can think of, whose integrity and honesty is a rare thing coming out of the zionist state. His breakdown of the crimes perpetrated by the zionist state is clear and concise, without embellishments. I hope they listen and act. If not, it isn't because they didn't know; it will be very clear that it's because they don't care. Watch the last video 'are you an Arab' over and over again. History repeating itself, we're all witness to this and nothing is done. I'm ashamed to be a human being.

  • Lesson from Kahane and Trump -- ideology outlives the ideologue
    • As an aside - the late kahane and current kahane/trump have tiny hands in common and were and are constantly point, jabbing, waving, etc. Maybe that's the cause of the angst, past and present?

    • "Newt Gingrich, for example, has built on Trump’s proposed Muslim ban, advocating a religious test for all Muslims who wish to remain in the United States."

My oh my. It looks like this democratic experiment has come full circle. From bygone times, people fleeing their countries to seek freedom from religion in the 'new world' to a proposal to require current and future american citizens of the Muslim faith to pass a 'religious test'. If Kahane were alive today he could go back to New York and feel like he'd never left the occupied territories. Holy Sh*% Batman.

  • A letter to Gaza
    • 'As you mentioned in your letter, the outrage over Colin Kaepernick’s silent and peaceful protest, proves that there is no ‘right’ way to resist, especially in the eyes of the oppressor'. Exactly right. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Thanks for offering this piece of your heart and soul.

  • Trump and Clinton blast UNESCO statement on Jerusalem
    • "And the real tragedy is the lack of education".

      Yeah, yours.

    • "While none of the phrases used by UNESCO innately negates the heritage of other religions to the sanctuary in Jerusalem, Israel views it as a word torpedo aimed at Judaism’s connection to Jerusalem. So do the Trump and Clinton camps, and the U.S. government, which voted against it."

Of course the zionists are acting all offended. It's always been their place to have top billing in this game of thrones. They've always been shown and continue to be fawned over by a so-called 'super power'. But UNESCO, smart people that they are, have not given them what they wrongfully demand and now they're having a tantrum, like a spoiled rotten brat. Trump and Clinton are upset? Of course, that's their job. They are bought and paid for by Sheldon Adelson, Haim Saban, the Koch brothers, AIPAC and are probably strong-armed by the JDL and Mossad. This was pretty funny reading.

  • Despite groping revelations, Israeli-American Trump supporter says all five of his daughters will vote Trump
    • Agree with you on that RoHa, let's just stick to the 21st century wrt proxy wars that are still in process. As far as China (or is it Jhina), too soon to tell.

    • RoHa "Perhaps Trump is this mysoginist, racist, rapist, who will plunge America even deeper into red-neckery.

      I don't care."

The world needs a rest from 'America's wars'? Don't you mean america's proxy wars? Talk to netanyahooooooooo.

      Thanks for sharing.

    • Whatever. I said I can't stand HRC or him. His lewd comments are just part and parcel of the whole misogynistic package. I don't give a fuck what anyone says to defend this sexual predator and rapist, who sets off all sorts of bells and whistles with regard to inappropriate interactions with his own daughter Ivanka, who he'd date if she wasn't his daughter, who he gave permission to Howard Stern to refer to her as a 'piece of ass' and who took some really creepy pictures with. To hell with him. The degradation of women is still A-OK in the world and people like trump continue to legitimize it. trump is the great white hope for cross burnin', miscegenatin' hatin' inbred ignoramuses who for centuries have blamed all their misfortunes - poverty and performance issues (real or imagined) wrt women, they blame not their own incompetence or ineptitude, nor the fact that the rich men on top, who've skimmed off all the cream and left them with 1%, who do not want this poor white trash as a neighbor, a member of their church or country club, that is their real enemy and always has been. No, they blame every non-white man, woman and child for their sorry state, and trump is fueling this eternal flame of hatred with his own. He's now suggesting drug tests before the next farcical 'debates' and on this I actually agree - all of his supporters should be tested immediately.

Pussy grabbing aside, with trump's hair-trigger temper and absolutely no governance over his mouth or his tiny little hands, I'm more worried about a 3 a.m. end of the world scenario with him at the helm because of a perceived offense or he gets a presidential itch to decimate a country or culture just because he thinks that's one of the perks of his job, the only thing he'd gladly do.

Another thing to consider - trump explained the vice-president's job is to actually do what the president is supposed to be doing! So Pence would be the real power behind the curtain? trump's master plan is to outsource all presidential responsibilities to the jerk in the side-car. Jesus.

    • I can't even fathom a trump presidency. Will he reverse Roe v Wade? The equal rights amendment? The voting rights of African Americans and all women? Will rape on the workplace and everywhere else become commonplace? This nightmare can't be made a reality. It's very easy to see why trump is popular here - he's a lying, racist sexual predator, like so many zionists. I've never been so disgusted by an american in my life. And I'm saddened, tremendously saddened, that the only decent candidate, Dr. Jill Stein, has been upstaged by the tongue twisting idiot savant Gary Johnson. I can't stand HRC or DJT. It's the end of the world as we knew it and I feel fine....

Thanks to all who worked to finally get the ability to comment back!

  • Israel begins deporting women who tried to sail to Gaza
    • I feel so humbled by these women. Will there be any more 'disappointment' and condemnation expressed by the world? Couldn't there just for once be a collective thunderous shout by all european nations to the united nations to immediately impose sanctions on the zionist enterprise? These women were on a mission that's purpose was in a humanitarian spirit, to show solidarity with Palestine. The only cargo on board was the hearts and souls of sisters in solidarity, and they are stopped in international waters, kidnapped and brought to the last place they wanted to be, in the belly of the zionist beast. Shame on these zionist cowards and the nations that support them.

  • 'Perpetual occupation' -- White House slams Israel over new settlement
    • How can anybody be surprised by this. The united states is seen as weak and gutless, a 'freier' for agreeing to give even more money to the zionist state. And now they are treating the u.s. just like they see it, a whore - good for only one thing and no respect, no quid pro quo, nada, except the ongoing israeli brand of treachery in your face 24/7.

They don't understand condemnation or displeasure. Try something much more forceful, PLEASE.

And not being able to post any comments is getting old.

    • I told my sister about this a couple days ago and when she asked for the 10th time 'where' did this happen, I told her 'in a Kansas public library'. She couldn't believe it. I told her she had better believe it and get a passport to beat the rush.

'And speech has become a crime.' You got that right RobertHenryEller, unfortunately.

  • Shimon Peres, Israel's greatest ambassador, will be remembered for enabling oppression of the Palestinians
    • What's more relevant - the zionist revisionist history wrt all the founding fathers, or the people who were done the most harm and continue to suffer to this minute as a result of Szymon Perski and company. Unfortunately we'll mostly hear all of the fond recollections of his fellow zionist-in-arms, including from the 'phenomenal' number of dignitaries planning to grovel at his burial. Another sad day for the truth as his less than noble deeds, ethnic cleansing and murder will be attempted to be buried with him, leaving the 'gold-standard' - an old man with a nostalgic smile (nostalgia for what - Poland or the Haganah?) who was for peace? Let the BS-fest commence.

Jews like Boteach, Saban, Adelson, etc., can openly bribe and blackmail anyone they perceive as not being pro-israel enough and demand these elected officials' decisions be driven only by what's good for israel and not the united states. Why is that? They have no consequences for their treason. They'll stay in their country of origin until it gets too hot in the kitchen, then skip out for their true love, apartheid borderless israel. Who else can do that? Being Jewish, all they have to do is go to israel and declare they are olim and they're in. (All the christian zionists out there - uh, that won't work for you.)

That picture of the happy, red-cheeked smiling boteach reminds me that he has a great future where he'd actually have a function (no offence). https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/fe/01/eb/fe01eb307822d868302b42042d9e3678.jpg

  • 'There is no stronger disorganizing force in American Jewish life than Israel'
    • The message from Brandt Rosen sounds great - energetic, invigorating and more historically in line with the Judaism I studied (tikkun olam) than ziojudaism (destroy the other) and the complete opposite of the oh woe is us/shame on you american Jews from the smug settler/colonialist yossi halevi. The only relationship that is possible with 'israel', thanks to the magical thinking of Theodore Herzl, the dishonest and corrupt Balfour 'declaration' and the cirminal masterminds of the nakba including haim weizmann, david ben gurion and all the future prime ministers of this faux borderless state, accompaniied by the mass murder/ethnic cleansing/occupation/apartheid since 1948 (why do you say the occupation is almost 50 years old and not 70?) there is no other possible 'relationship' with this criminal enterprise than one that is critical and hostile; you have yourself and your fellow zionists in 'israel' and the united states to blame. If you don't like the way you're perceived, facts on the ground have to change, period. Don't expect anyone in their right mind to look at what happens in Palestinine every single day and then break out into a rousing chorus of hatikva.

Being 'nice' to israelis? That makes you a 'freier', a sucker. They only understand one thing, and it isn't 'negotiations'.

    • It's amazing that zionist causes get so much of their material from the dixiecrats, the 'white citizens councils' and the KKK. How can this continue to be swept under the rug? How is segregation wrong in america and in south africa but fine and dandy in israel? Why are Jews always privileged?

WRT 'settlers', I think they've done plenty of damage to him while he's been in office (netanyahooo et all are settlers too, not just the murderous thugs in Hebron, Jerusalem, etc.)! He didn't get any respect from these thugs as a sitting u.s. president at all. I sure can't imagine he'd put himself or his family through another visit to ye olde holey land if he didn't have too.

"A nation ringed by walls would only imprison itself," Obama declared to the assembled representatives of the UN's member states.

Gone were Obama's idealistic appeals to bring about a world free of nuclear weapons and an agenda focused on peace, as were his previous UN addresses. The "hope and change" of his argument as a presidential candidate himself was also replaced by exhortations against a future filled with chaos.

"Time and again human beings have believed they finally arrived at a period of enlightenment, only to repeat cycles of conflict and suffering. Perhaps that's our fate," Obama suggested.

"We have to remember the choices of individual human beings led to repeated world war," Obama said. "Each of us as leaders, each nation can choose to reject those who appeal to our worst impulses and embrace those who appeal to our best. For we have shown that we can choose a better history." IMHO, that remains to be seen Mr. President. Sounds like you're saying fighting proxy wars isn't such a good thing. Did you tell the blue-haired booby in private or are you hoping he will see himself in your statement?

    • Really enjoyed Professor Hage's thoughtful response to the invitation by the AAI and I'm very really happy about his decision. I loved this 'This I feel is all what me presenting a keynote for your organisation would achieve: some conservatives will be upset. But that’s because they are dumb. Then there will be the intelligent liberals who will leave saying “what a feeling. I have heard a genuinely and authentically anti-Zionist intellectual with really confronting views, and with an Arab background to boot. It was a really enriching experience, I must be so open minded and groovy.” This does not and never did help the colonised. There will be a minority however who will fully understand these limitations and who will genuinely want to move towards the territory of decolonising anthropology. Those, I would love to work with, but I don’t believe the AAI is the best frame for this to be done.' And this 'I would be happy to meet with Israeli anthropologists who aspire for such a decolonial politics. And it would be a delight for me to discuss with them possible strategies. Given that the numbers in the foreseeable future will be small perhaps we can meet in a Palestinian café and invite some local Palestinian anthropologists to participate in a dialogue about radically different non-colonial directions. I would genuinely be happy to take part in something like this.'

I hope he will share the reply he receives from the AAI.

Lieberman Orders Israeli Defense, Military Officials to Boycott UN Envoy

Decision follows UN Envoy to Middle East Mladenov’s criticism of settlements, treatment of Palestinians and Lieberman himself.
      Haaretz |  Sep 15, 2016 3:25 AM

The office of Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has instructed ministry employees and military officials to boycott UN Envoy to the Middle East Nikolay Mladenov, Channel 2 reported last night.

According to the report, the orders were issued following Mladenov’s criticism of Israeli policies on settlement construction and toward the Palestinians, as well as of Lieberman himself.

Two weeks ago Mladenov told the UN Security Council that the illegal expansion of settlements and the lack of Palestinian Authority control in Gaza are the primary obstacles to peace. He added that there had been “a surge in Israeli settlement-related announcements and continuing demolitions.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office issued a sharp response to Mladenov’s remarks, saying they “distort history and international law and distance peace.”

The obstacle to peace, Netanyahu’s spokesman David Keyes said, “is the unending attempt to deny the Jewish people’s connection to parts of their historic land, and the stubborn refusal to recognize that they aren’t strangers there.”

Lieberman’s office refused to address the Channel 2 report. An official source in Mladenov’s office said, “The UN special coordinator for the Middle East … is currently in New York, where the UN secretary general will review the latest developments in the field.”

MK Tzipi Livni criticized Lieberman’s decision last night, saying it harmed Israeli interests and security. Livni added it wasn’t the first time Lieberman had instructed his underlings to shun a UN envoy.

“As foreign minister he ordered his office to boycott the former envoy, Robert Serry. Then Operation Protective Edge happened and it emerged that Serry’s role was critical in terms of assessing the IDF’s position in relation to Hamas and the situation in Gaza, as well as for providing UN inspection of humanitarian programs so that Hamas shouldn’t exploit them. That’s also an Israeli interest.”

Livni added, “Lieberman may think that it’s politically wise to attack a soft target like the UN envoy and that it positions him as strong and tough, especially given Israeli contempt for the United Nations, some of it even justified. But this is a mistaken approach that harms Israel. One can and should get angry and argue with the United Nations on positions that are important to us, but we always have to act with restraint and in accordance with our interests.”

Livni calls UN envoy a 'soft target'. Interesting.

  • 'There's no occupation'
    • I find it hard to believe when someone would argue that israel's apartheid state and all the fine accoutrements of an occupation (segregation, separate roads, hospitals, schools, LAWS, etc.) that go with such is not really an occupation. That somehow, because it is being done by zionists and has the full support of the united states, it's sanctified, sanitized and wouldn't hurt a fly. The united states is more guilty than the zionist state because it could have prevented this, but chose to acquiesce because of guilt and are now so deep in this quagmire of lies, deception and extortion, it would take something catastrophic to cut this noose around the neck of Palestinians and americans who have a different idea wrt democracy.

  • Israeli government projects 'ethnic cleansing' on Palestinians
    • I don't believe, and there is no proof, that the goal of Palestinians is to replicate the actions of their enemy. That is zionist fear, which comes from guiltiness and nothing else. Ain't it a bitch the Nakba happened in the age of photography, video and the internet? Captured forever and eternity. Inconvenient truths for sure, as Bibi continues to blather about the supposed plans for ethnic cleansing of Jews ("Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others"), while continuing the ethnic cleansing of Palestine while he speaks. What a guy.

  • Trump and Clinton promise to repeat foreign policy mistakes of the past
    • “And when asked how he would stop the spread of global terrorism, Trump’s answer was simply ‘take the oil.’ The United States of America does not invade other countries to plunder and pillage. We don’t send our brave men and women around the world to steal oil. And that’s not even getting into the absurdity of what it would involve: massive infrastructure, large numbers of troops, many years on the ground. Of course, Trump hasn’t thought through any of that,” she said."

Who did she think she her audience was - a group of new citizens or 3rd graders? Of course the usa invades other countries to plunder and pillage - what other reason could there be? Iraq is sitting on a lot of oil, they couldn't work out a deal with Saddam Hussein who was getting ready to sell oil in euros and drop the dollar because maybe Saddam decided he couldn't trust the greatest democracy in the world any more. Tell the truth for once! Here is one time drumpf told the truth - they wanted iraqi oil. Period. Did HRC make it clear what the objective of invading Iraq was, if it wasn't to pillage and plunder? No. There is no other reason. Vietnam has oil reserves too. Hmmm. Seems to be a pattern of nothing but pillage and plunder, like, gulp, a barbarian horde or somethin'.

Anti-Racist Dutch MP Refuses to Shake Netanyahu’s Hand
      Robert Mackey
      Sep. 8 2016, 12:39 a.m.

A Dutch politician from an anti-racist party declined to shake hands with Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, before a meeting at the Dutch parliament in The Hague on Wednesday.

Tunahan Kuzu, a member of Parliament who was born in Turkey and co-founded the new multi-ethnic party, Denk, or Think, in 2014 to represent immigrants to the Netherlands, explained later that he intended the gesture as a sign that many in the Netherlands object to the abuse of Palestinian civilians living under Israeli military rule in the occupied territories.

Photographs and video of the incident showed Kuzu, who was wearing a Palestinian flag pin on his lapel, smile and nod as he was introduced to the Israeli leader but withdraw his right hand behind his back as Netanyahu extended his.

      http://www.telegraph.co.uk

Not part of this story I know and sorry for going off the rails for a minute here but just saw a commercial for Ricky Martin (anybody remember him?) who'll be playing the 'white city' next week. He and Elton John, among others, are boycotting Dolce and Gabbana for their remarks about IVF and traditional families. Looking at Mr. la vida loca's website, he is against human trafficking (Ricky Martin Foundation) too, "We denounce human trafficking and educate about its existence through global awareness, research, and community initiatives, anchored in the defense of children and youth rights". After reading through The Act, The Means and The Purpose wrt human trafficking, I'm shocked he's playing Tel Aviv. It seems like some actors and musicians (who hit their stride 20 years ago) are incapable of reconciling their so-called passions or projects with the facts on the ground when it comes to Palestine. Human trafficking is big business in the Holey Land. Oh and boycotts are just find and dandy as long as they aren't against the occupation.

    • "There have always been perhaps too many jewish people among the internationals. many (at least till proven otherwise) kept believing, deep in the recesses of their minds, that there was commonality between jewish people raised and educated in Western democracies, and israelis, raised and educated in a semi-Sparta-like garrison state mentality."

I agree. There is no comparison between israeli Jews and western Jews, except for the western Jews that are zionists. Everything about "Jewish" life in israel is military-centric. It's us vs them, separate roads, walls, schools, etc. American Jews may get a taste of 'garrison state mentality' if there is a President Trump in the near future. I hope not. How sad that it comes down to the lesser of the two evils. However, it appears there are many Americans who seem to actually desire a garrison state, but I think they don't think they really know what they're hoping for, or maybe they do. There seems to be a real doomsday mentality there, as well as here. Certainly christian fundamentalists have played a role in keeping zionism on life support when the plug should have been pulled a long time ago. I don't look for the united states to do the right thing about anything, but especially wrt to Palestine. If any change is to happen, I hope that it will be from the actions of Palestinians and not the united states, which has a history of dark plans, dirty deeds and evil intentions. The people who are doing the suffering and dying should be the people who control their destiny.

That is a false statement from the get go. And it is the zionist state, not Burger King, that's the home of the Whopper.

And that's only the tip of the iceberg of lies and BS your post dropped here like a hot load of horseshit. "Islamic terror enclave', "Oslo process" and "And why won’t this author state clearly that the BDS platform does not call for two states for two people. But rather will continue its campaign until israel is dismantled as the home of the jewish people."

"Israel" isn't the home of the Jewish people. The ancient Hebrews may have lived here, only if you believe the words of the torah to be absolute truth, but most of them left. Not 70 years ago, not 700 years ago, but over 2000 years ago. This isn't the 1800s 'A12Sultan' and the colonization of Palestine is a crime. You've got a whole lot of questions that I'm thinking you really don't want any answers to, but you could start here:

      BDS Movement |
      https://bdsmovement.net/

      What is BDS?

'Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) is a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality. BDS upholds the simple principle that Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as the rest of humanity.

Israel is occupying and colonising Palestinian land, discriminating against Palestinian citizens of Israel and denying Palestinian refugees the right to return to their homes. Inspired by the South African anti-apartheid movement, the BDS call urges action to pressure Israel to comply with international law.

BDS is now a vibrant global movement made up of unions, academic associations, churches and grassroots movements across the world. Eleven years since its launch, BDS is having a major impact and is effectively challenging international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.

Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall.

International law recognises the West Bank including East Jerusalem, Gaza and the Syrian Golan Heights as occupied by Israel. As part of its military occupation, Israel steals land and forces Palestinians into ghettos, surrounded by checkpoints, settlements and watchtowers and an illegal apartheid Wall. Israel has imposed a medieval siege on Gaza , turning it into the largest open air prison in the world. Israel also regularly carries out large-scale assaults on Gaza that are widely condemned as constituting war crimes and crimes against humanity

Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality.

One-fifth of Israel’s citizens are Palestinians who remained inside the armistice lines after 1948. They are subjected to a system of racial discrimination enshrined in more than 50 laws that impact every aspect of their lives. The Israeli government continues to forcibly displace Palestinian communities in Israel from their land. Israeli leaders routinely and openly incite racial violence against them.

Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN Resolution 194..

Since its violent establishment in 1948 through the ethnic cleansing of more than half of the indigenous people of Palestine, Israel has set out to control as much land and uproot as many Palestinians as it can. As a result of this systematic forced displacement, there are now more than 7.25 million Palestinian refugees. They are denied their right to return to their homes simply because they are not Jewish.'

I hope this helps you. And if you look back some 70 odd years and see that what happened to the Jews at the hands of the nazis isn't something that should have been replicated by the zionists to the Palestinians, who had nothing to do with the extermination of most of Europe's Jews, but that's what happened, without gas chambers. What Lehi, the Stern gang and the Haganah perpetrated against a civilian population as ordered by ben gurion and witnessed by the British, were crimes against humanity and continue to be. And the right of Palestinians to return to their country isn't some claim from a religious book going back to antiquity FFS - their removal was an event that took place in modern times and in the memory of many survivors of the creation of the zionist state.

    • I heard years ago, maybe it's an urban legend, maybe it's the truth, not sure, but kind of following along your information, that the NAACP was an organization invested in and closely monitored by Jewish folks, who, I don't know, just heard. This had been in response to someone saying that Jewish people have always had a connection to African Americans and their struggle to which someone replied yeah, that's right and it's because they want to keep close tabs on everything we do and say. That seemed a bit odd at that time, but not anymore. Thanks Keith.

    • "......and when you start telling these people: no room for pro israel and progressive, this type of student will say sayonara, or l’hitraot, as in “later, dude.”

'later dude' isn't the definition of l'hitraot - it means 'see you later'.

What is a pro israel and progressive yonah? Is that your code for PEP? It seems to me the words 'pro israel' and the word 'progressive' don't belong in the same sentence, much less universe. That smells like 'liberal zionist' and 'democratic jewish state'. More Newspeak nonsense from a great practitioner.

  • 'Good' and 'bad' Palestinian village policy gets first test in raid on Sa'ir
    • "The Israeli army’s reported threat to crack down on Sa‘ir seemed to come as the result of Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s recently unveiled “carrot-stick” policy toward Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, whereby harsher punishment would be imposed upon families and villages from which “terrorists” originate, while economic benefits would be granted to areas that “have not produced terrorists".

I don't see Lieberman's 'carrot-schtick' policy being any different from the collective punishment policy of the criminal zionist enterprise that's been in place for 70 years. There is no change.

  • Many leftwing Israelis are leaving the country -- 'Forward' breaks an important story
    • Echinococcus - "Thank you for the voice of sanity all the way from the belly, as the cliché so rightly says, of the Beast. Boycott and sanctions are not going to do anything on their own, of course."

We'd better redefine sanity then. Anyway, I disagree. BDS has done a huge amount on its own; there's articles on MW every week about it's growing impact and you know that yourself. I said that "BDS alone" won't kill this beast.

ritzl "Hi Marnie. I had thought that Ms. Zonszein had considered Israel her home as well. "

That may be, but maybe, like Annie suggested, she feels she'll accomplish more somewhere outside the beast.

    • I wonder if there will be americans leaving the u.s. after this election? Or if there's been any that have already left because of the politics?

    • ritzl - Thanks for your thoughts. "Mairav Zonszein has some courage but she’s leaving. Haneen Zoabi, who faces bigger and more numerous threats to life and liberty, is staying and slogging it out."

This is and has always been Ms. Zoabi's home. That's not true for Ms. Sonzsein or myself for that matter, but I'm not going anywhere unless I'm physically removed. I've never been back to the u.s. since I left and have no plans to return.

I think the so-called 'left', departed with Yitzak Rabin. There are no loud Jewish voices of sanity here. It makes me think about nazi Germany. I wonder how many German christians left Germany before 1939? Jews then were in the same straits as Palestinians now - they couldn't get out even if they wanted to.

BDS is awesome and has opened a lot of people's eyes, but I'm not optimistic that BDS alone will make things right. I think with israel having nuclear weapons and settlers armed to the teeth, these criminals won't hesitate to shed a lot of blood, even their own, before there can be a real secular democratic state for all people. And again, the Jewish holidays coming up fill me with dread.

    • Annie - don't understand your response. BDS has done and continues to do a lot, but I'm afraid it will take a lot more to end this because the right isn't interested in peaceful solutions and I think this other 'peculiar institution' won't end without bloodshed.

    • Mairav Zonszein is also a +972 contributor/staff and has faced abuses for her articles, possibly death threats to her and other staff. I don't know how brave I'd be if my life or my child's life were threatened; however, that would put me kind of on par with a Palestinian mother and that might give me strength. I don't knock her for leaving, but she has the freedom of movement no Palestinian has had in the last 70 years and that's pathetic.
I don't think so-called liberals/leftists/whatevers heading for Ben Gurion in droves is going to have any effect on the present situation. The right wing knows they can't change the so-called left, and the so-called left hasn't been able to change the right. BDS alone isn't going to be able to take down this beast and kill it once and for all. The so-called high holy days are just around the corner and I'm filled with dread.

  • Liberal Zionists see 'window of opportunity' for two states in last three months of Obama administration
    • A Jewish Israel can never be democratic, which is what we've had for 70 years. The land that was meant for a separate Palestinian state has been chopped to pieces by the metastatic settlement disease process. The only option imho is a secular democratic state for all. Not Jewish, not Palestinian, but with respect for all it's citizens, not favoring one over the other and religion can play no part in making laws so no rabbinute, sanhedrin or whatever. Strictly democratic. Religions will be respected, but have no impact on anyone outside the individual practitioners. There will be civil marriages so no one will have to go outside israel to be married, etc., etc.

      That's the truth.

    • A most malevolent one.

    • 'When a Zionist or American Catholic or an Arab Apologist loses that momentous dignity, he becomes a zero, his soul is torn in two. Let Amos Kenan, the Israeli writer, speak the bitter truth: “I believe that Zionism came to establish a shelter for a persecuted people, and not to persecute other people. Even when facts strike me in the face and prove to me ex post facto that Zionism was nothing but a useful tool to deprive the Palestinian Arab people of their homeland, I will stick to the lie.” Let him stick to the lie. But let him also know, the lie sticks to him. It sticks in the throat, it sticks to the very soul. To the point where a Christian must continue to ask of Israel those questions which Israel proscribes, ignores, fears. Where indeed are your men of wisdom? Where are your peacemakers? Where are your prophets? Who among you speaks the truth to power? Where are the voices that abhor militarism, torture, bombing, degrading alliances with the great powers? Israel knows the answers. She has dealt with “this people,” who are her truest people. Her peacemakers, her men of truth and wisdom, are dispensed with, are disposed of. They have neither power nor voice in the affairs of the Israeli state. Many of them are in prison, or hounded from the scene, living in exile. They are equivalent to Palestinians; no voice, no vote; non-persons.'

Did you read this Dbakr? Why'd you bring up pedophilia? Deflect, distract and deny.

  • 'The defiant femininity of Israel's female soldiers' -- you're kidding, right?
    • Whenever I see a female soldier, I almost burst out laughing. The majority are so concerned with the puerile - their hair, their makeup, how low riding their trousers are, how sexy they try to be and in a heartbeat become the Mademoiselles de Sade. I wonder sometimes if their aggressiveness towards Palestinians is the way they release their fear and anger for being nothing more than a handy piece of ass for their superiors, whether they like it or not, nothing more than an object in the IOF and in the israeli culture. Israeli women share common ground with Palestinians, but their tribal affiliation more precious to them, no matter the cost to their bodies or souls, than joining their Palestinian brothers and sisters in the fight for justice and equality.

  • Church of Sweden explores BDS as 'only chance to liberate Palestinians and Israeli Jews'

Especially someone who is, no offense 'Raphael', such a screwball. How did you start your inquisition? 'Hi, my name is Raphael. I'm a half-Jew, half-Catholic zionist MF and I want you to tell me how great it is to work at this factory, how these Jews treat you like family and how much you hate BDS, m'kay?'

'The money part of the video was when I asked a Palestinian worker what he thinks of BDS and he said he felt it was “Sh-t!” How’s that for politically incorrect.'

      Yikes.
