  • Bibi & Barney: Spring Pollard for 3-month freeze extension
    • Apparently the US congress has two sets of rules, one for Israel and one for the rest of the world.

Why would the US release a convicted spy/traitor and what on earth does releasing him have to do with the ME peace process?

I used to have respect for Barney Frank but he has proven to be a blind supporter of Israel.

  • Code Pink aims to stage barbed-wire Gaza outside White House tomorrow
  • PLO urges Yale president to speak out on 'anti-Arab hate-mongering' conference
    • To Mondoweiss:

Good job of reporting on this racist conference. Just imagine if the ME department of a major university (I know this is far fetched) had a conference on anti Muslim movements around the world, and one of the topics was the role of Israel in such movements. There would be an uproar from the ADL and op eds in all the major newspapers ....not to mention the countless rightwing bloggers (Geller, Glick, etc..)

  • Flotilla was successful: NBC Nightly News airs searing report on Gaza 'prison'
    • Bravo NBC for broadcasting some truth in the midst of the journalistic sea of shit we get here in the US when it comes to Israel.

  • Internet killed the hasbara star
    • News, images, videos, etc, are traveling around the globe at an amazing pace and people are becoming more and more informed. As hard as they try Israel's PR machine can no longer distort the truth.

  • An unqualified defense of Helen Thomas
    • All I can say is that if Helen Thomas resigned, then Caroline Glick, the deputy managing editor of the Jerusalem Post, should definitely resign and get lost . Her video " we con the world" is completely racist and distasteful and someone in her position should not be allowed to get away with participating in such a video.

I guess I forgot she is an Israeli, a citizen of a country that is out of control, occupies others, builds illegal/immoral settlements, and does all this with impunity and an in-your-face attitude.

  • My heart wanted to ask her: What will it take for Jews to say, Enough!
    • I attended the protest rally in San Francisco today. As expected there was a contingent of pro Israelis with their Israel and American flags. I watched the pro Israeli group as well as the pro Pal rally with a heavy heart. 1. Being pro Israel portrayed as being pro America, ie if you are with "them" you are on the wrong side. 2. So much pain and anger on the palestinian side; the sense that for so long nobody has listened to them. Speakers not necessarily eloquent but full of raw emotion. 3. The pro Israel group was playing music and I saw some dancing, apparently an attempt to show how much they love Israel. One side talking about flotilla deaths, occupation, the other dancing ! 4. For the pro israel group it seemed like the death of 9 flotilla activists, the occupation, settlements, 2 states for 2 people........were all irrelevant.

This was a day for Palestinian solidarity. As one of the speakers said: the US congress, the US senate, over $3 billion in aid, and practically the entire US media is not enough, they had to be there to rub it in the face of the pro Palestinians.

  • A prayer for her country
    • I am reminded of Neda Agha Soltan in Iran and the infamous video of her bleeding and dying that was posted all over the world. Another innocent young woman is a victim of a brutal regime. I hope this photo of Emily gets widespread distribution.

  • We aren't the world
    • I suggest some of the esteemed US journalists do this video: Bronner (with IDF son) and Kershner of the NY Times, Zacharia of the WP, maybe Gradstein of NPR, Blitzer of CNN, and a few others I forgot.........

  • Lessons from the UC Berkeley divestment effort
  • More on Toronto Pride
    • Typical reaction/behavior from Israel apologists is to silence any all criticism of Israel. What is even more disturbing is a) the antisemitism/hate excuse is used and b) israel apologists are getting the City of Toronto to do their dirty work by tying their agenda to funding i.e. get rid of the QAIA or the city will cut funding.

What happened to free speech? Some people believe (rightly in my opinion) that israel's policies represent apartheid, so what? They are not allowed to express this opinion because some pro israel apologist (Martin Gladstone) made a movie and cried to the toronto officials about how the QAIA group is hateful and has no place in the pride parade. Expressing yourself is what this parade is all about and nobody can and will change that.

I think this will backfire. The gay community has long experienced discrimination and will not stand for this censorship and silencing. Many of the members of QAIA are Jewish; the QAIA spokesperson, Elle Flanders, was raised in Jerusalem and has been active in pride toronto for years.

  • Dershowitz falsely suggests that Chomsky is against the existence of Israel
    • I read the posts from israel's apologist, but did not read one valid argument for the settlement enterprise (other than the lame and tired one of "it is complicated" ). Settlements are illegal for sure, immoral for sure, but most importantly demonstrate israel's true intentions. They certainly are no help to the security of Israel proper. What do you think hophmi? Maybe you agree with Dershowitz and think that Israel is 80% right.

Israel is a rogue state that has occupied and violated the Palestinians for decades, all with the full support of the US government. That is all changing not because of Obama, but because public opinion is changing as people see more and more what Israel has done and how it stops at nothing to lie and deceive.

In just one week a settler thug shot and killed a Palestinian boy, professor Chomsky was denied entry into the ME's "only democracy", an Israeli diplomat was expelled from Australia due to the Dubai debacle, and newly revealed documents strongly suggest Israel's nobel laureate Peres was willing to sell nukes to apartheid south Africa. One embarrassment after another for Israel, and things aren't looking good moving forward thanks to the power of the Internet and the instant flow of news/images/video.

  • Making the case for Zionism
    • Oh the famous word "context" used over and over by Zionists to justify whatever it is they need to justify: occupation, illegal/immoral settlements, bombing the crap out of Gaza, all in the name of another often used term "security".

The WSJ reports: "Palestinian woman whose house has been occupied by Jewish settlers argued with Israelis who came to celebrate Jerusalem Day in the mainly Arab neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem" and you say maybe the Jewish boys and the woman are neighbors.

Now tell me who is the nut here?

    • Two things stand out for me when I look at this picture
      1. The evil of religious fanaticism
      which justifies
      2. Oppression without any empathy

  • Elvis Costello cancels Israel concerts: sometimes it's 'impossible to simply look the other way'
  • Englander short story in 'New Yorker' says Holocaust legacy gives Israel a pass to do anything
    • As much as I detest the veiled pro-Israel slant in this piece, the much bigger challenge in my opinion is to change public opinion by bringing the facts to the average American. When practically all the media (from Fox to MSNBC, NYT, WP, NPR, etc....) and politicians on both sides are deaf, dumb, and mute to the reality of the Israel Palestine conflict, what is one to do? Anyone criticizing Israel is marginalized as anti semitic, pro terrorist, far left, self hating jew, and a variety of other nonsensical brands. Is it the Israel lobby that is incredibly well organized and well funded? Is it the lack of a Pro Palestinian lobby? Is it the US corporations that benefit mightily by manufacturing weapons and by continuing this and other conflicts in the ME? Is it oil? All of the above and thus a big challenge ahead....

  • Excerpt from: 'The Unspoken Alliance: Israel's Secret Relationship with Apartheid South Africa'
    • In your eyes anyone who criticizes Israel is wrong. If a Jew criticizes Israel, that person is even more wrong because it is more difficult to dismiss him. Finally, if it is a respected Jewish judge criticizing israel, it becomes unbearable for you and the hurling of insults and the hate filled campaign to discredit him is in full swing.

You are not alone but very wrong.

BTW did you read the HRW report on Cast lead? Let's go to work discrediting that instead of looking at what's really wrong with Israel?

  • Hillel to DePaul SJP: The Nakba is a 'festivity to to delegitimize and destroy Israel'
    • Rachel this is not necessarily about commemorating but speaking the truth about what is going on in israel/palestine, and we all know it is not pretty. So a die-in is actually appropriate. As much as you may dislike this event it is aimed at bringing awareness about the occupation ..and yes death of the palestinians is a part of this occupation.

  • NPR report on West Bank expulsion order turns horror into a she-said/she-said debating point
    • A week or so ago the program "the world" produced by the BBC, wgbh in boston, and PRI had a segment on settlers trying to attract Israeli tourists. The WB was referred to as a "disputed area". This is how the mainstream, even the so called liberal, media reports on this conflict. The WB is not disputed but occupied and no major media outlet dares to speak the truth.
