Look how easily all the Christians in Jerusalem have been erased. And no one noticed?
Abdeen is correct for the most part. BUT, he cut's Obama too much slack.
Berry does have political space and ammunition: he is not faced with re-election; he is the President of the United States and appoints all heads of all executive branches, including Treasury. If he wished, he could cause the end of tax exemptions for all those millions that go to support the settlements and the fanatic zionists. He could, if he wished, INCLUDE Israel in the budget cuts that will effect every citizen of THIS country. He could even END tax payer dollars, if he wished to take on the challenge. He just simply does not want to face off against the Israel supporters. He has NO real moral center. Like he said: he's a politician.
Amen. Amen. Amen.
The power IS in his hands should he choose to use it. No more US tax dollars either directly via the Treasury or indirectly via tax deductions for Israel and its supporter/enablers.
Time for action NOT just words. Everyone and everything has to be mobilized to make sure Hagel's nomination is not killed before it is actually made and when/ if made supported by the widest possible spectrum of interests.
Careful folks. Believing in the reliability of the NYT, especially when it characterizes the nature of the Syrian rebels is pretty dangerous. Many in the West are too happy to attribute 'oppressive social policies' wherever and whenever see citizens of the Middle East fighting for freedom from the oppression of their governments. The is especially true where the 'rebels' maybe primarily Muslim. Take a look at this report from Australia. Melhem actually went in, talked and filmed the report. link to sbs.com.au
All this talk about Beinart and his book but a strange silence about another author who is/was making the rounds in the US: Gilad Atzmon. Other than some 'noted' Palestinians trying to distance themselves from "The Wondering Who?" there seems to be very little controversy about that book. Or is it just to hot to touch? Don't know, but find the contrast intriguing
The U.S. Institute of Peace: another target for the Deficit Commission to take aim at. Maybe not a lot of taxpayer dollars, but a total waste nonetheless.
