You don't understand there is no way Israel is allowed to go to a major war without Washington's permission. Every single major war going back to 1967 Israel had to get approval from Washington. Take the 1982 invasion of Lebanon or the recent Gaza war Israel asked and got Washington's permission. Obama will not give permission for Israel to attack Iran and that's the end of it. Bibi may huff and puff and may try to persuade his friends in Washington to put pressure on Obama like he is doing, but Obama won't agree especially during election year. If Iran was such a threat and Ahmadinejad the new Hitler like Bibi has been saying for the last 5 years, why hasn't Israel already attacked Iran? Simple because Washington will not give permission!
There won't be any war. Israel's planes can barely reach Iran and even that is with having to re-fuel in mid air:- a very tricky manoeuvre. Even then they have to violate airspace and risk being shot down passing through several countries. It's all bluff. I don't believe Netenyahu who surprisingly is one Israeli leader who's never gone to war has got the guts to do it. Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words. If there is one person who does not want war more than anyone else its Obama as it would ruin his re-election chances.
Why does Israel not have a Constitution? Because it would have to abolish itself as a Zionist state. Someone who is not a Zionist but wants to become an Israeli citizen is forced to accept the ideology of Zionism wether they agree with it or not and that's the difference. What if to become a Russian citizen you had to swear allegiance to Communism or swear allegiance to Capitalism to become an American citizen? Zionism and democracy are not compatible. A Jewish and democratic state is an oxymoron. Tony Judt was right Zionism is an anarchism, a 19th century ideology stuck in the 21st century.

Apartheid or Hafrada as the Zionists call it means seperation. Separate legal system, seperate schooling system, separate residential areas all enforced by checkpoints, passes, separate road system, unequal allocation of resources, racist laws in relation to marriage, residency, employment enforced by massacres, demolitions and expulsions over 60 years adds up to de facto and de jure apartheid. Israel is now being outed as an apartheid state, attempts to deny it are now seen as being as ridiculous as King Canute trying to stop the tide coming in.
When Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982 it killed 20,000 people. You seem to have forgotten them.
Lebanon is a republic like the USA, it has a constitution which guarantees the rights of the minority against the majority so far from being a bad example its a good example! Israel the only "democracy" in the middle east doesn't even have a constitution and has instigated far more violence than Lebanon.
There will be no war! Obama does not want $200 a barrel oil unless he wants to be a one term president. There will be no more UN sanctions either as Russia and China will not agree to it. There will be a lot of huffing and puffing but going to war against a country 3 times the size of Iraq is out of the question. Robert Gates the previous Defense Secretary ruled it out and so does the present one. Israel will not bomb Iran either they cannot and will not do anything without permission from Washington DC which will not be given.
Don't forget the so called Anti-Defamation League, which is now nothing but a blatant right wing Zionist organisation defending the Occupation and opposing equality.

It's a criminal offence for a realtor in the USA to give racial profiling of a geographic area to a potential home buyer. In other words if a buyer says "I want to live in area where there are absolutely no Blacks" if the realtor answers affirmatively he commits a felony. What if the Security Council eventually fails to grant statehood, Abbas might then come under enormous pressure to go the GA from his own people and most likely other Arab states where he is bound to get a majority. Furthermore if Palestine is accepted as a "state" by the GA like the Vatican it in theory could join organisations like the International Criminal Court where it could then start making claims against Israel for violations of the Geneva Convention and crimes against humanity.

Just come out. Tzipi Livni narrowly avoided arrest a couple of years ago whilst trying to come to the UK for war crimes. A magistrate in London was given prima facie evidence and immediately issued an arrest warrant. She was tipped off (probably by the British Government which hadn't yet got round yet to altering its procedures for arresting war criminals) and decided at the last minute not to come. A WikiLeaks cable seems to strongly implicate her for war crimes in Cast Lead:-

The USA and Israel are desperate to keep the question of Palestine being resolved at the UN and by international law specifically resolutions 242 and 194. They will try every dirty trick in the book but its important the Pals do not back down and fall into the trap of endless negotiations whilst still being under occupation like in the past.
There's has actually been a sea blockade of Gaza since 1967. Gaza is a port on the eastern Mediterranean. For thousands of years the port has been open and traded with ports across the Mediterranean until 1967. That means the closure of the port by Israel is for political reasons not security reasons. In other words its part of the occupation to keep Gazans completely dependent on Israel.
The position of the UN is not that the blockade is legal, its only the opinion of the people who wrote the report who admit by their own terms of reference they are not making any legal judgements nor are they qualified to do so. Only a body like the International Court of Justice can do that. NATO has made no judgement or comment on it at all and it certainly is not going to enforce any blockade by a non NATO member.
As a foreigner my observation and that of many others is that the USA can now no longer be regarded a liberal democracy. It is a plutocracy increasingly a theocracy. There is a cosy relationship between the corporate class who pay the campaign fees and the ruling political class. The fact that changing the president from Bush to a so called "liberal" Obama has not changed the policies of the US proves this. Why bother voting if it makes no difference?
If Israel attacks a Turkish ship in international waters it is an attack on NATO. NATO should then declare war on Israel for attacking a fellow member.
The ICJ is different from the ICC. Actually the ICJ has already made a unanimous ruling on the apartheid wall. The ICJ ruling is that it is illegal should be dismantled and Israel should pay compensation. The spineless PA has not done anything about it to highlight it though.
This is a smart move by Turkey unlike the PA it is not beholden to the USA or Israel and the Palmer Report is not legally binding but a ICJ ruling is.

I don't think they do! They have not been in occupation for over 40 years and many of them left voluntarily anyway. Iraq has paid Kuwait £20billion so far(and they are still required to pay them billions more). So that's at least £800 billion £20billion for each year of occupation and that does not include 1948 claims!

The USA use to be an apartheid state. It stopped being an apartheid state only when people like Martin Luther King and hundreds of thousands of ordinary people challenged the apartheid or Jim Crow system as it was then known with a mass civil rights movement by doing things such as ignoring segregated lunch counters and organizing freedom rides to segregated areas which were dismissed as a "provocation" by the authorities. Similar freedom riders to Gaza are today dismissed as a "provocation". But in the end it worked.
Israeli apartheid will be beaten the same way not by politicians not by Barak Obama or "President" Abbas but by ordinary people, hundreds of thousands even millions of people all over the world. Bishop Tutu has said without the support of ordinary people across the world apartheid in South Africa could not have been defeated. I was watching Akiva Eldar on Al Jazeera English TV last night in which he said if the Israelis refuse to end the Occupation then the Palestinians should demand Israeli citizenship and equal rights! But then you don't get Al Jazeera in most of the USA unlike here in the UK where its available on every TV. You can watch it online though.
China is moving up the value chain:- it is increasingly moving away from making cheap low value goods to send principally to the USA and making more expensive high value goods which it wants to sell to Europe and elsewhere. Wen Jiabao the Chinese Prime Minister has just made a visit to several European states signing trade deals and agreed to buy European debt. The fawning way he was greeted said it all. As far Europeans are considered he is more important to them than the President of the USA is. If the Chinese wanted they could buy all the debt of Greece, Ireland and Portugal solving overnight Europe's fiscal problems. Can the USA do that? It could once after the Second World War like it did with the Marshall Plan. A new railway now goes from Central China to Germany loaded with trains with goods every day cutting the sea route which was 30 days down to just 11 days. For me the increasing irrelevance of the USA was exposed when Gates the outgoing Defense Secretary chastised other NATO states to increase military spending as the USA could not take the burden indefinitely. His words fell on deaf ears. European states face no outside military threat and are not going to increase military spending to fight Washington's wars, since they do not have the money even if they wanted to. At some point China will humiliate the USA and the world will know that there is a new Superpower. It maybe that China will aggressively push the Yuan to replace the Dollar as the world's reserve currency. If that were to happen, a distinct possibility within the next 20 years, the USA would loose its empire and its hegemony.

That is exactly my point there is no "right to exist" recognized in international law only the "right to self determination". The term "right to exist" is only ever used in relation to Israel I have never heard it used in any other context!
Correction. Hamas say it would recognize Israel but not "Israel's right to exist". This is an Orwellian term first used by Henry Kissenger that has no meaning in international law. Most countries recognize other countries but they do not recognize their "right to exist" because only people collectively have rights like the right to self determination that states do not have. Did the Soviet Union or White Supremacist South Africa have a "right to exist" when they existed? Of course not! Recognizing their "right to exist" would have meant recognizing their right to oppress subjugated people and neither of these states exist anymore which is a good thing. Of course the Zionists have added another caveat added by Olmert in 2007 which even Obama now uses. Palestinians must now recognize Israel as a "Jewish" state which would be like White South Africans insisting Black South Africans recognize South Africa as a "White" state(which they also tried to make them do). Funny how they never insisted Egypt and Jordan recognizing Israel as a Jewish state before signing peace treaties with them!

Hafrada is Hebrew for separation. Apartheid is Afrikaans for separation. So what he is saying is Israel is an apartheid state by its founding and by policy. The Zionists use the same word without any shame, for example they use the term hafrada wall meaning the apartheid or separation wall(note not security wall!). So when activists use the word apartheid in relation to Israel they are using the same word the Zionists use all the time but in Hebrew.

This reminds about Scotland. One third of Scottish people apparently want "independence" from England. But does the Scottish National Party who have the majority of seats in the Scottish parliament really want independence and is Scotland capable of being a viable independent state? The answer is no. Unfortunately the British Government has just within the last day changed the law on Universal Jurisdiction. Israeli war criminals are now free to come and go as they please with complete impunity thanks to the Prime Minister David Cameron who is a fanatical Zionist(his Government also voted against the Goldstone Report claiming it was Hamas that started hostilities). He said changing the law would be one of the first things he would do if elected. Universal Jurisdiction still stands "claims" the Government but the Attorney General will now be able to veto any arrest warrant by a private prosecution on political grounds. This will apply no doubt to Mousa Kousa who will be given amnesty despite his blood drenched record including the Pan Am bombing of 1988 which he was almost certainly involved in.

Noam Chomsky criticized Goldstone and his report as being only very mildly critical of Israel when it came out. Many people believed the report was extremely damaging to Israel but it was not. As Chomsky so brilliantly pointed out but is still missed by many people on the Left, is that there was absolutely no justification for the Cast Lead War whatsoever. Goldstone deliberately omitted investigating this aspect merely stating "Israel has the right to self defense" as he would have had to come to the conclusion the war was illegal and not in self defense as Israel broke the ceasefire and refused to end the blockade. Had that been so it would have meant everything Israel did was illegal, in effect what Israel carried out was not a "war" but a massacre or pogrom. Now of course he can now excuse Israel for making a few token investigations where "mistakes" were made whilst condemning Hamas for not making any investigation without taking in to account that Israel is the aggressor not Hamas and without the huge disparity in power between the two sides.

It found 48% of Americans supported Israel as against 13% for Palestinians.
In Spain however only 9% sympathised with the Israelis and 32% with the Palestinians almost the reverse as it is in the USA. A similar poll would likely yield a similar result in most other European countries such as France, Italy, UK etc. And note this is BEFORE Cast Lead and before the Flotilla incident and before the European Parliament(admittedly a fairly toothless organisation) voted to endorse the Goldstone Report unlike the US Congress.
On the other hand in Europe support for Israel has nosedived amongst ordinary people. The most Zionist country in Europe is probably the Netherlands where Geert Wilders comes from and Islamophia is endemic but otherwise any opinion poll would show the vast majority of people are more sympathetic towards Palestinians than Israelis. In the USA the problem I think is with the mainstream media the fact Al Jazeera is not commonly available and 9/11 turned many Americans against the Arab and Muslim world.

I disagree with this analysis. I think the regime has one fundamental weakness that could be its undoing and that is the nature of its army. The Egyptian army is mostly an army of conscripts who have to serve 3 years and are very poorly paid. There is no way these soldiers are going to fire at protesters any order like that would be refused by the vast majority of them. Once the police fail to stop the protesters in any oppressive regime only the army can be relied upon to act with overwhelming force and brutality as happened in Tiananmen Square in China in 1989. But only a highly professional army well trained, highly paid and loyal to the regime can be relied on to do this, something the Egyptian army definitely is not in the lower ranks. The impotence of the Egyptian army was seen recently when a high ranking General tried to persuade the protesters to leave Tahrir square but they just ignored him and howled him down. Of course this is not the same as Tunisia where the regime could be toppled in a few weeks. The Egyptian regime is far more resilient, determined and brutal and will be a much harder nut for the protesters than was the case in Tunisia. They need to stick it out for the long term organize and present a united front as far as possible against the regime.
