This was a great action.
- I hope they do it again.
- I hope people set up #BabalShams support committees.
- I hope people set up #BabalShams tents in front of Israeli embassies and consulates and public buildings around the world.
- I hope people carry the slogan #BabalShams in the upcoming demonstrations in DC, like
"Stop Israeli settlements! #BabalShams"
"Free Palestine! #BabalShams"
"No blank check for Israel! #BabalShams"
Maybe some people who see those signs would think to themselves, I wonder what #BabalShams is? and look it up on their smartphones.
Thanks for this update! The first link to the MoveOn petition in the post appears to be broken, but the second one is correct. Here it is again:

I would caution everyone to be wary of right-wing spin on developments. A big part of the battle is psychological warfare. So, you have a bunch of right-wing commentators saying Hagel is going down because of X development, and you go inspect X development, and it's not what the right-wingers said it was. We have a lot of troops on our side right now: former military brass, former ambassadors, combat veterans of all recent wars, J Street, Americans for Peace Now. If there were ever a time to beat the neocons, this is it. If Hagel withdraws his name from consideration, that's when we've lost. Til then, let's recruit new allies, push back against lies and slime, and fight to the last.
Key things for people to know:
1) Hormel accepted Hagel's apology:

2) Human Rights Campaign welcomed Hagel's apology:

3) Prominent foreign policy analyst Steve Clemons, an openly gay man who has known Hagel closely for years, posted this very strong defense:
The Chuck Hagel I Know: A Staunch Defender of Gay Rights

4) There is a petition in support of Hagel's nomination at MoveOn here:

You've totally missed the boat here, Alex. J Street and Think Progress are doing what they are doing because *they are trying to win.* The Washington playing field is dominated by AIPAC - is this news? Are you faulting J Street and Think Progress for trying to win? If so, isn't this raising the flag of the "loser left" - leftists who can only be happy if the left is losing, and have no interest in ever trying to win anything? This is a rare opportunity to have a chance at beating AIPAC - not a big chance, but a non-zero chance. Isn't that where focus should lie, not on beating the ideological purity drums of the loser left?
If there's anyone here who actually cares about winning, there is a petition at MoveOn you should sign. Note that there's nothing in the petition about being "pro-Israel" - it's all about getting out of Afghanistan, preventing war with Iran, and cutting the Pentagon budget.

Make that 13. I added my own comment of deep disappointment, not so much in their position of opposition - that's disappointing. But their lying and slander - that is deeply disappointing. The resolution *was* focused on the *occupation* and *not* on *Israel*, contrary to APN's shameful lying about it.
