  • Video: Olmert, Livni & Barak were 'masters of war' 3 years ago
    • Sorry, but Bob's lyrics in connection with the pictures of the Star of David or praying soldiers disturbs me. Of course it's an anti-war song. But sometimes a collage is more than it seems to be. This is not just an anti-war but an anti-jewish video. Just look at the video and listen to his song at 7:39.

  • What I've witnessed on the West Bank
    • Compare it with what happened to the Sinti and Romanies during their destruction in WWII. While the jewish victims always reported afterwards about sexual harassment and violence (for example: did you ever read "House of Dolls" by Yehiel De-Nur?), the Sinti and Romanies mostly remained silent because they where ashamed of what happened to them (and because they never had such a huge number of intellectuals who would talk about it openly). Maybe it's a bit like this.

  • What does secular mean? 'J Street' official says American Jews 'ideally' want the whole 'land of Israel'
    • At the moment you are fighting a ghost. You call me facist just because I do not aggree with everything what is writen in the comments? Just because I critisize some of the comments you think: he belongs to the "other side". Stop thinking of black and white. There are many colours.

    • Oh come on. It's enough now. Of course jewish people suffer antisemitic hate even today. It's not just an invention to immunize oneself against critizism. That jews are not killed with shovels anymore does not mean that a lot of people do not have a lot of anti-semitic shit in their heads. And sometimes the same logic like in anti-semitism is today used against muslim people, too. You are ignorant. Of course there are zionists who uses the guilt and the destruction of the European jews. Or who are cynical in using the smear of anti-semitism to bring forward their goals. But: Do you really want to deny racism?

    • Please, they live there. What you do: you repeat history. I don't care if they have a legitimate right or not: jewish and non-jewish people live there. And they have to live together. Dot. You can critisize the idea of a nation, critisize the idea of a state, but to take the Israeli people and say: you are too late. All the nations, who invented (!) themselves have a right, but you don't, because you don't exist 100 or 200 years but just 60, is nonsense. In just this small piece I aggree when some people say Israel is singled out. They are right, because what Israel does in 1 year, the US and the West do the same on one day. Like Finkelstein said in a lecture (and he was completely right) to Gaza: for example the embargo is exactly the same th US did with Iraque for 10 years. And they did it even more strictly: more than one million people did in these more than ten years.

Every process of creating a state is bloody. It was bloody everywhere, where nations were created. Take a close look at Britain. Or the Balkan.

    • Yes, you are right. Beside this: look at Germany or France, they have huge communities. Well organized. But yes, maybe you are right, I do not know the communities in the countrys he wrote very well. My answer was a bit polmic.

    • Maybe you are right. But this is a complete different question and a different debate.

    • Yes, assimilated by gas chambers, dude.

    • Come on: they know it, you can read it everywhere how much the US supports Israel. The US supports Israel not because of a dubious lobby (even the tobacco lobby is bigger). The US supports Israel because they share the same security reasons in the Middle East. And at the moment the US detects an Arab Spring and a lot of other trouble. So they want Israel to be more calm. And Israel? They say (just watch Bibis speech in front of the Congress): The US and Israel belong together. We have given up our sovereignty because we are addicted to your help. But we know better than you whats good for our shared security: Israel has to be a strong state with huge a deterrence capacity.

    • Isn't it more this way?
Zionism is at first a nationalistic liberation movement. And in it's logic a nationalism needs: a country and traditions. So they discussed several places they would try to establish an jewish state. That Palestine was chosen had strategic and tactical circumstances: a jewish homeland without palestine makes no sense, because you need something what connects you to the ground. Otherwise people would not hold on to the land. Of course there are different factions: some, who would give up the Westbank, some who don't. Even some of the non-religous zionists want to sweep the Westbank because of security reasons.

    • No. But in the past and even today some leftist supported a liberation by war and not by peace. So I personaly want to avoid any bloodshed on both sides. It is enough! So not how Algeria and the french occupation endet but how South Africa ended is a model for Israel. One- or Two-State-Solution is another question.

    • I am realy disturbed by this guy called Woody Tanaka: why is he always talking about "we" and "you"? Who is "we"? Anyway..

What eee wants to say to you: there are millions of jews living there. It is a fact. They will not, I repeat, not go away. The have not only just deed, but families, friends, history, they live there. You cannot turn time back.

And eee, what the others try to explain to you: no, we do not want a second Algeria, but we want a second South Afrika. Hopefuly...

  • In London, Benny Morris runs the gauntlet
  • The general vanishes
    • Unbelievable that Mondoweiss is censor an input on an article just because I am criticising the way Iran's president is whitewashed! This is how you discuss here? If somebody writes wrong stuff (even the rest is interesting and maybe right) and somebody points his finger on it, you just cencor it? Wow, this is how you will get us all in line!

      I am out!

    • This is who's game? My? If you take a look at my blog you would see that I am the last one who is defending the crimes of the right wing gouvernment of Israel, the settlements or the racism towards the Palestinians inside or outside Israel or anything else.

But, like I said: Call a spade a spade. This is why I resist an article which (I hope by mistake) trys to whitewash Ahmadinejad’s Anti-Semitism and nationalism. All I said is: you don't need to defend Ahmadinejad when you criticise the politics of the state of Israel. So the article could be (even without proofed facts) really informative. But - I repeat - it is annoying when it comes to Ahmadinejad.

  • Deutscher saw the future before he died in '67
  • The Lebanese Army finally acts to protect Lebanon's sovereignty
    • Hm...something with the quote didn't work. I am talking about the clusterbombs and wanted to cite Seham, who wrote that Israel did not have given the ecact position of the dropped clusterbombs. Instead I quoted myself.

    • This isn't right. The german newspaper taz ("Die Tageszeitung", close to the Green Party) had two articles last week about clusterbombs in Lebanon and Laos. It read that Israel already told Lebanon, where it bombed with clusterbombs. Another taz-Article (link to taz.de
gives the exactly date: May 2009.

This doesn't justify the bombing. The taz-Artcile last week also quotes a member of a NGO, which clears the fields from clusterbombs: a lot of killed and wounded people could have been avoided when Israel had told the areas where it droped clusterbombs not only in May 2009, but right after the war.

  • NYT op-ed page has run 0, count em zero, Palestinian authors since flotilla attack
    • Okay, you are right. Maybe I just know too few prominent Palestinians. And yes, you made a point with the comparison with the Jena 6.

    • Exactly! That's what I am talking about in my comment. I forgot to mention that out of the 6 columns there where several critical.

    • This is a false view to the columns. Because you have to recognize that New York has the biggest jewish population right after Israel. There are 5 Million Jews living in the USA. A big number of them in or around New York. How many Palestininans are living in New York or in the USA? Your math does not make any sense. Of course Newspapers let jewish people speak to jewish issues or issues connected to Israel. It's the same in France, Germany, USA, Italy. While the IDF was bombing Gaza the european talk shows where full of conservative or right wing european jews, no Palestinians, no left or critical jews. What do you expect? It's because there are no prominent Palestinians, Edward Said is dead. They have no intellectual voices in the West. You can call it a "conspiracy" or whatever, I just call it a lack of prominent leaders oder intellectuals. Sorry for my bad English. but I think you'll understand what I want to say.

  • Recasting the Gaza blockade as a humanitarian project
  • We aren't the world
  • Israel's war against non-violence
    • "No mercy for the weak" means, that Israel will be destroyed if they are not aware enough. It doesn't mean: We have nor mercy with the weak. Two complete different things.

And no all of you are with Erdogan? The man who is the chief of a country that kills Kurds and left-wing unionists for decades now? Don't you applause to the wrong one? Is he better than the Irsali leaders like Sharon, Netanjahu or Barak?

  • NPR, the CIA, and the settlers: a detective story
  • 'Amnesty International' contradicts Benny Morris
    • Of course ai will not find any evidence. Who could they? But: what does this mean? Does it count? Would it be okay to attack a hospital IF there are Hamas leaders are hiding? Of course not! This is the logic if you say there were no Hamas fighters. Because if they were there it would have been okay to destroy the hospital. You give the IDF or western armys excuses to attack civilians when there are fighters in between them. Because that's normal if you don't have a regular army: you are in the middle of the normal people.

  • 'Forward' cartoonist says Americans are abandoning their Jewish identities because of Israel's actions
  • Bethlehem Checkpoint: Waiting in a Line vs. Waiting in a Line under Occupation
  • Dershowitz falsely suggests that Chomsky is against the existence of Israel
    • Isn't it funny that Dershowitz attacks Goldstone by the subject of beeing a supporter of torture? Did anybody read what Dershowitz tells about torture (in Israel)? God, what a good joke...

  • Finkelstein on Morris, on the root cause of the conflict
    • Some of you, like annie, make the mistake Norman Finkelstein wanted to avoid: you speak about the person Finkelstein instead of speaking about the subject Peace in for tow people. This is why he didn't come to Germany: the right wing jewish community and a lot of the new anti-Semites (you can also call them philo-Semites) made such a noise around the person NGF and the other jewish "anti-Semites" from the peace groups, who supported him, that he said: I will not speak in Germany. Just stay at the record, ignore what they say about him, don't start talking about him and his personalty or his mind. Stay by the truth, focus your way, focus the subject. If you start to talk about the person, they got you where they want to have you.
