    Assad never claimed Syria was a democracy. That is the standard hasbara line for Israel --'the Middle East's only democracy.' But the democracy is only for the Jews, not the non-Jews.

Interesting story, meditating on whether we can really know the reality of history. I think it was also his way of venting over the 'everything is great in Texas' crap kids raised in the state are force-fed.

    I forget when it was, but Sec. of State Clinton once gave a speech praising Israel as a valuable US ally. Behind her was a banner with the US flag melting into the Israeli flag. An image, I might add, that has been used on antisemitic websites. My mind was blown.
