An old Jewish guy in Oz. Tired of the fallacies surrounding the I/P issue We were given the territory for a homeland state, with more than enough room for every Jewish person on the planet, even today Since proclaiming its frontiers in the May 15th 1948 in the Israeli Government plea for international recognition, Israel has illegally acquired by force and occupied more and more territory outside of it's proclaimed and recognized Sovereign territory. None of which has ever been legally ceded to or legally annexed to Israel by any agreement or legal instrument The occupied have a right to violent resistance against armed citizens of the Occupying Power. However, no one has a right or excuse for committing acts of terrorism against innocent civilians. To that end: I condemn all forms of terrorism, murder and any other harmful crime by any individual, group, organization or state and; condemn any government, individual or organization who purposefully encourages the illegally settlement of territories held under occupation thereby purposefully endangering its own citizens by using them to create illegal facts on the ground Today the State of Israel continues to encourage Israeli civilians to create illegal settlements, illegal facts on the ground, breaking law that was adopted by the UN and International Comity in large part because of the treatment of our Jewish fellows under the Nazis. Law adopted to protect all civilians including those of an Occupying Power from the expected violent consequences of occupying another people and their territory Israel demands the swap of non-Israeli territory for non-Israeli territory so it can keep non-Israeli territory in a future settlement. There is no legal basis for the demand nor is there for the disarmament of a future Palestinian state. All states have equal right to self defense. Likewise, there is no legal basis for the demand to be recognized as the Jewish state. Israeli demands have no legal precedence or validity The Palestinians have no legal, moral or ethical obligation to forgo any of their legal rights. Negotiations mean only one thing, the Palestinians forgoing legal rights so Israel can benefit Were Israel to adhere to the law, it can easily protect itself, grow and prosper. It'd have no UN resolutions against it. No need to continuing to corrupt US politicians in order to maintain a UNSC veto vote. No need to lie to and endanger its citizens I've received too many threats for opposing Israel's policies towards the Palestinians, broken windows, graffiti'd walls, hate mail, I'd prefer to remain anonymous, if that's OK. Who I am is irrelevant. Reliable information is essential to informed dialogue towards resolving the I/P issue. Propaganda has no place in struggle for peace

  • Shmully and guilt
    • One wasp buzzing around is not a big problem. Don't poke around in their nest tho...
Their stings are like the guilt you were made to feel. (after a while it'll go away). To make you feel guilty was after all the purpose of inviting you. Feeling guilty and shunned. Next will come the slurs

Nothing in the reported conversations has any bearing on the actual legal status of Israel's legally recognized sovereign extent and rights under Customary International Law or the UN Charter which Israel agreed to uphold or; the inherent and inalienable rights of the people outside of Israel's legal sovereign extent under the same laws and Charter

The 'Jews bought land' argument is a nonsense. Some Jewish individuals, families and Jewish organizations/institutions bought some 'real estate'. The amount of 'real estate' they bought is minuscule compared to the amount of Palestinian 'territory' the world's Jewish population was given, completely gratis, as the 'territory' of the Jewish state. It was accepted without any registered reservation and the UNGA resolution by which it was offered was enshrined in the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel.

No 'territory' was ever bought by Israel. Added to which 'territory' outside of Israel has been illegally acquired by war, illegally annexed by Israel and illegally settled by Israelis.

  • Netanyahu goes looney tunes on Israeli Independence Day
  • Israeli gov't advises bringing a gun on West Bank picnics
    • Bizarre. In "territories occupied", armed citizens of the Occupying Power are belligerents. Valid military targets for armed resistance.

Belligerents have rights, but they must carry their arms openly and; according to the Hasbara, they must wear uniforms.

The reason the GC's exist is to PREVENT this sort of thing happening, where the civilians of the Occupying Power are also protected by having them STAY OUT OF "territories occupied" so they DON'T become belligerents or illegally settle!

  • Knesset members celebrate latest E. Jerusalem settlement by posing on evicted Palestinian family's sofa
    • "Ok, on this one I’ll give in."

OK .... but then you immediately d o n ' t . The well trained Ziobot kicks in and attempts to make excuses for the court

"there has to be some way of dealing with land issues"

Indeed, it is written into the Laws of War, the GC's the UN Charter and accepted as Customary International Law, all of which Israel has ignored for the last 63 years. The laws and courts of the occupied apply to civil matters. 'real estate' ownership is a civil matter.

"How is a court to know whether the particular Arabs on the land at the moment have any more real claim to the land than the Arabs who(according to the documents) sold it to the Jews"

The first processes of a court is to determine whether it has jurisdiction over any matter brought before it.

According to the Laws of War, the GC's the UN Charter and Customary International Law, the civil courts of the Occupying Powerhave no legal jurisdiction in "territories occupied". The court should know this by reading the hundreds of USNC Resolutions against Israel's illegal activities over the last half century or more.

Who, in their right mind, would trust a court that claims jurisdiction over a matter it has no legal right to preside over?

    • "Perfectly good sofa. It would have looked nice in a small tent"

    • Fred desperately pushes forward a legless little strawman, struggling to get to it's non existent feet, while attempting to point a non existent finger on a non existent hand at a non existent event

"Oh, I know, because the owner was Jewish he _must_ be lying and because the evicted family was Palestinian they _must_ be telling the truth."

If you say so Fred... no one else has

    • Fredblogs

      Say Fred, have you ever read UNSC Resolution 252 (1968) UNSC Resolution 267 (1969), UNSC Resolution 271 (1969), UNSC Resolution 298 (1971), UNSC Resolution 465 (1980), UNSC Resolution 476 (1980), UNSC Resolution 1860 (2009)

"They were legally evicted by someone who proved to the court that he owned the land. "

Israeli civil law has no jurisdiction in "territories occupied" and never unoccupied and; the Military Law of occupation has no jurisdiction over civil matters in "territories occupied" and never unoccupied and; Jewish AND/OR non-Jewish Israelis have no right to be settling in "territories occupied" and never unoccupied.

Furthermore the conflation of 'real estate' (owned by individuals, corporations, even state bodies and institutions) is not the same as 'territory' E.g., Japanese Government institutions and Japanese corporations and Japanese individuals own 'real estate' in Australia. The Japanese have no rights over any Australian 'territory'.

'Territory' belongs to all its LEGAL inhabitants, whether they own 'real estate', rent 'real estate', lease 'real estate' or are 'real estateless' bums living under a bridge.

I know you have zero interest in the above, however, please move to the next point in your list of bullsh*te so I can show folks how empty your arguments are

    • Israel has it's brain in backwards. The notion of the activists is to draw attention to the issue. By attempting to stop them, Israel helps their cause. It's so simple, so obvious.

But Israel's leaders go right ahead and the issue is promoted far beyond where it would have been were they to do a normal security check and allow them on their way.

Stupidity reigns supreme in Israel and amongst the supporters of the greater "Land of Israel". Out right and complete stupidity.

BTW the "Land of Israel" is soooo cute. Israel is a Sovereign State.

It has defined borders as acknowledged in the reply of the Provisional Government of Israel UNSC S/766 to the questions addressed to the “Jewish authorities in Palestine” . Israel has never legally annexed any of the territory it has illegally acquired by war since becoming a state.

All the UNSC resolutions on the matter are based on that status. Only the US prevents the law having effect, which is why Israel and its Greater Israel supporters concentrate on the US senate.

    • Sheeeeesh.... That kinda blows the lid off things.

Meanwhile, Israeli Military Ordinance deems a Palestinian to be an adult at 16 yrs of age. How many Palestinian children (under 16 yrs of age) have actually been suicide bombers? Answer.... NONE!

How many (under 16 yrs of age) have been caught with a suicide bomb? Answer .... ONE!

    • Quite simple.... One can legally drive a car on the street. However exceeding the speed limit is illegal. Lose your license, pay a fine or if a serial offender, go to gaol, no longer drive a car. If contraband is found in the vehicle it too can be confiscated and if one is found on further investigation to have profited from crime, one's house could well be confiscated and those who aided and abetted in the crimes also taken off the street

According to numerous UNSC Resolutions, which are based on the laws agreed to by becoming a UN Member, Israel has repeatedly broken the rules governing occupation and the UN Charter. The responsibility of being the Occupying Power should be taken away from it. It's citizens removed from territories it has illegally acquired by war and occupied and reparations paid to the victims of its crimes. The illegal facts on the ground handed over to the victims.

The UNSC has already ruled Israeli actions illegal. There is only one thing preventing the law being given effect. The US veto vote in the UNSC.

Israelis are victims to Israel desperately trying to keep ahead of the laws it voluntarily obliged itself to May 15th 1948 and on acceptance into the UN. Now it is Israel who MUST negotiate an agreement with the Palestinians, because an agreement is the only way of actually circumventing the law apart from the US veto vote in the UNSC

Under the law, Israel will be bankrupt for decades paying reparations and compensation and; very likely melt down into civil war as it attempts to evacuate its hundreds of thousands of citizens from 62 years of illegal facts on the ground. Unfortunately a civil war OUTSIDE of Israel's actual borders, yes, Israel does have legal borders recognized by the Israeli Government on May 22nd 1948, allows for legal intervention by the other Regional Powers, just as it did on May 15th 1948 when Arab forces attempted to expel Jewish forces from Palestinian territory OUTSIDE of Israel's sovereign extent.

Although the Palestinians have born the brunt of Israel's crimes, it is actually Israel who's in deep sh*te and desperate. When one is fed a diet of Hasbara BS for 63 years, facts seem hard to believe.

  • The Israel/Palestine conflict will be resolved when Arab countries kick the U.S. out of the region
    • "They will buck US direction when they perceive it to threaten their own rule, but certainly not to support Palestinian self-determination. We have seen such behavior for as long as there has been a so-called "peace process." The closest any of them reached to outright rebellion against the United States over the Palestinians...."

I find this rather odd odd, because the Arab states have from the outset (circa 1917-20) to today, argued for Palestinian self determination per the LoN Charter, the UN Charter, International Law. They have continued to host refugees for 63 years, costing countless billions. They have fought wars on behalf of the Palestinians, costing countless billions. They've changed their legislation to ensure Palestinian refugees have not lost their status/RoR. All of which has been done at enormous cost.

What peaceful options for " outright rebellion " are there for those Arab State who're not oil rich?

  • 'We must expel Arabs and take their place': Institute for Palestine Studies publishes 1937 Ben-Gurion letter advocating the expulsion of Palestinians
    • What was said prior to the International recognition of Israeli independence and its subsequent admission to the UN, is irrelevant to today and the actual legal status of Israel's Sovereign extent from which flow all the UNSC resolutions against Israel's illegal activities since becoming an Independent Sovereign State

That said, Israel's illegal activities bear witness to the intentions of the Zionist Federation, a small band of influential people who were not even from the region and who were not elected by the world's Jewish population who they claimed to represent.

Were the US to have dropped the veto vote in the UNSC, the I/P problem could have been resolved according to the law years ago, (the Arab States have actually based their objections in law, the LoN and the UN Charter)

Under the protection of the US veto vote, Israel has mis represented and ignored the law, the UN Charter, in fact anything that gets in the way of its insane addiction to the notion of a Greater Israel which has now become a multi billion dollar industry with huge far reaching contracts no one wants to lose.

Without the US veto vote and under the law, Israel would exist within its boundaries, protected by the law and the UN Charter and there'd very likely have been a Palestinian State circa 1950.

By attempting to assert its influence in the region thru support of Israel after the British signaled its withdrawal from the region, the US has created an abusive, ghastly little monster it is afraid of even attempting to control.

    • Izik "Most of the commentators here expressed a desire to see Israel destroyed"

Name 'em. Give us a statistic. Thx . LOL.

    • LOL, so funny the stuff some people will say.

"Anyone who has fired a tear gas canister will tell you that you cannot aim these things. "

Under Customary International Law (the laws of war), it is illegal to use a weapon that cannot be aimed. In fact it is a war crime. The same war crime Palestinian militants are accused of for firing unguided home made rockets.

      San Remo Manual
Paragraph 42(b) of the 1994 San Remo Manual states:
In addition to any specific prohibitions binding upon the parties to a conflict, it is forbidden to employ methods or means of warfare which:

      (b) are indiscriminate, in that:
      (i) they are not, or cannot be, directed against a specific military objective; or
(ii) their effects cannot be limited as required by international law as reflected in this document.

  • Gilad Shalit's father says, 'If I were Palestinian I'd kidnap soldiers'
    • One can only wonder what Gilad Shalit actually has to say about his captors
The demand to be recognized as a Jewish State is just schtick in the spokes to prevent Palestinian statehood. The demand has no legal foundation. No state has recognized Israel as anything other than the 'State of Israel'.

Israel was recognized by the majority of the International Community of Nations before the USNC recommended it for UN Membership. Yet it was not recognized by every country. A higher percentage of the International Community of Nations recognize Palestine than recognized Israel. There are a number of Sovereign, UN Member States, who're not recognized by other Sovereign/UN Member States.

Answer this one : How many states has Israel recognized? As far as I know, it hasn't even recognized the USA.

The Declaration for the Establishment of the State of Israel says "THE STATE OF ISRAEL .... will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel ; "

      Now read Deuteronomy 20:15

Almost everything Israel says about the Palestinian issue, Israel's borders, its right to self defense, its right to the "land of Israel" is easily shown by Israel's own words, to be either a lie or completely illogical.

The law and the UN Charter are actually in favour of the Palestinians. Only the US veto vote in the UNSC stops Israel from being rightfully held to account.

  • @IDFSpokesperson tweets inaccurate video and fake civilian casualty statistics
    • OlegR "the people that voted them into power share some responsibility for their elected government actions just as we Israeli citizens share it for ours"

Answered your own question there didn't you. Took the rope both ways and hung yourself.

Consecutive Israeli Governments have for 63 years been illegally dispossessing Palestinians, illegally acquiring their territory by war, illegally annexing territory, illegally settling their territory. The Law which actually falls on the side of the Palestinians has been prevented from being enforced only by the US veto vote in the UNSC at the behest of the elected Israeli Government.

According to you, Israeli citizens share the repercussions, which happen to be Palestinians using whatever means at their disposal, including the use of inaccurate home made devices without the advantage of advanced technology Israel has to see what they might be aiming at. According to IDF statistics that armed Israelis have been killed in far larger numbers than un-armed Israeli citizens.

    • Izik says:

"That doesn’t make any sense. Why would Israel want to provoke Palestinians into terrorism which claims the lives of Israelis?"

Why do you think ABUSERS provoke their victims into slapping them? They can then turn around and say ' look s/he's insane, s/he attacked me!'

Scale it up to a state, which if made to face the law which actually falls in favour of the Palestinians, would be sent broke for decades attempting to pay the Palestinians their rightful compensation for dispossession, for the 50% of their rightful territory illegally acquired by war by Israel since 1948/49. Israel would be forced to relocate hundreds of thousands of illegal settlers. All those big fat settlement contracts worth millions upon millions, cancelled.

The Palestinians, beaten senseless for 63 years concede to forgo about 50% of their territory, to the '67 Armistice Demarcation Lines, for peace. Yet Israel wants more and more. Typical of an abuser. Once the victim concedes for peace, the abuser escalates.

Israeli citizens have been lied to for 63 years by consecutive Israeli Governments, told they're living in Israel, when no borders have ever been legally altered. They're made to serve in the IDF, cannon fodder for a the insane notion of a Greater Israel.

    • "it is absolutely unacceptable that a UN employee working specifically on dissemination of information to the media and public tweets malicious and false information to libel Israel"

Uh huh. One incident where she may have been unaware it was faked.. Meanwhile, lying is against the basic tenets of Judaism. The Jewish State and supporters of a Greater Israel have for 63 years been LYING PURPOSEFULLY to the world, to the UN, and to Israeli citizens. Assisted by the likes of yourself in order to demonize the Palestinians

Netanyahu: some 36 blatant lies in his speech to the UN

Peres : Lies to the UN

The lies are so transparent, so illogical and so easily disproven, only a moron or a child would believe them. Then of course there are the complete denialists who purposefully believe the lies and the purposeful liars for Israel, propagandistas, pushing Habarrows full of bullsh*te

    • When civilians are purposefully factored into the equation it's murder.

Fact: there is no Internationally accepted formula for collateral damage. The International Community have never been allowed to reach an agreement by the major powers.

An assessment is made by the officer in the field as to the value of the military target compared to the possibility of killing/injuring civilians, the armament is then PURPOSEFULLY fired.

"Why would Israel want to kill innocent children "

To drive the Palestinians out of their minds in frustration using whatever they have at their disposal, even terrorism. Then the 'peace loving' state of Israel can say look, they're savages. It's typical of ABUSERS.

The legal system has failed the Palestinians, even though the law is on their side in relation to Israel illegally acquiring Palestinian territory by war, illegal annexation, illegal settlements. 63 years of dispossession, 63 years of theft and 63 years of death destruction and slaughter all on behalf of the vile notion of a Greater Israel.

Uh huh. Grateful for being under occupation. Grateful for being apportioned THEIR OWN water, from territories illegally acquired by war by Israel since 1948/49 .. You're %&*ing hilarious. Israel is the Occupying Power If it chooses to strangle the Palestinian economy by imposing bans on imports, finances, the Palestinian ability to be self sufficient, BY LAW the Occupying Power must make up the shortfall

Article 55 : To the fullest extent of the means available to it, the Occupying Power has the duty of ensuring the food and medical supplies of the population; it should, in particular, bring in the necessary foodstuffs, medical stores and other articles if the resources of the occupied territory are inadequate

The Occupying Power, Israel, being a UN Member State, is bound to Chapt XI of the UN Charter. Israel has obligations

"And yet they are firing Grad missiles. Resistance my a.."

The Occupied may resist by any means available to them. It's the law. Israel agreed to adhere to the law.

"Cast Lead 2.0 would mean devastation to the civilians in Gaza."

But Israel does everything in its power to avoid civilian casualties, including having all means of escape from a war zone closed as it did in Cast Lead. They couldn't even flee into the sea The only place they could go was ... another place in the war zone. It's illegal under the laws of war to prevent civilians from fleeing a war zone.

    • OlegR "Meanwhile my girlfriend tells me that another grad rocket fell near a hospital in Ashdod"

The Southern part of Ashdod is in Palestine. It has never been legally annexed to Israel.

"Beer Sheva where my parent live is targeted as well"

Be'er Sheva is not in Israel. It was never legally annexed either

Best tell your friends to go live IN Israel.

    • Shlomo Gazit is almost right "I don't see the possibility of an Israeli government capable of taking the decision of removing [60-80,000 settlers so as to achieve a] border that can allow the establishment of a viable Palestinian state... It will be literally a civil war in Israel"

Alas it will be OUTSIDE of Israel. Under the UN Charter, other regional powers will have the right to intervene as they did May 15th 1948. (which is why there was no UNSC resolution condemning the Arab States Invasion of Palestine)

He is right in that no Israeli government is capable of taking the decision to start a civil war. Civil war is feared by states more than any other war. No state, to the best of my knowledge, has ever started a civil war.

He is wrong in his numbers for illegal settlers. Israel has never legally annexed any territory to it's recognized sovereign territory. No state recognizes Israel beyond the " frontiers approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations in its Resolution of November 29, 1947" as Israel asked to be and was recognized. It is in fact millions of illegal settlers, though how many would depend upon the generosity of the Palestinians. Thus far, they have made incredible territorial concessions to Israel, none of which have been accepted.

Were China to threaten to call in US debt unless the US drops the veto vote in the UNSC, we would soon see Israel face the law. Under the law, Israel would be sent bankrupt for decades. Israel must therefore reach an agreement with the Palestinians in order to circumvent the law, which rightfully falls in the Palestinians favour.

One must also consider who else is gonna find 'emselves shafted by Israel's illegal activities if a two state agreement is reached. You can bet they'll be lobbying like crazy for a Greater Israel.

  • Israel is sucking up all the oxygen in the White House
    • Israel threatens to attack Iran, although it can't even stop home made rockets fired by ill equipped militants in Gaza.... think about it..

Israel knows the US/world powers don't want another war, but must take Israel's threats seriously because the US/we WILL be drawn into another war if Israel is stupid enough to attack Iran. So Israel threatens knowing full well there will be offers from the US/et al. Turn a blind eye to Israel's illegal activities and provocations on the Palestinians. Maintain the US veto vote in the UNSC. Don't say anything about Israel's extrajudicial assassinations of Palestinians who're only suspected of planning terror attacks.

An attack on Iran by Israel ain't gonna happen. The remainder IS ALREADY happening

    • Israel has been the squeakiest door in the US for decades.

  • Israel's bogus case for bombing Gaza obscures political motives
    • Not quite right Max...... Israel is on plan...

Bibi goes to the US, threatening to attack Iran, knowing full well Israel cannot even stop home made rocket attacks from Gaza even with billions of $$$ of US military aid, all it can do is kill a few militants and twice as many civilians, as it did in Lebanon, not achieving any of its stated aims. All it did was rain death and destruction, always killing plenty of civilians..

Israel attacking Iran would result in a war Israel would not be able to win alone, the US and others would by consequence and necessity be drawn into. They cannot, by necessity ignore Israel's threat even if they think it is bluff. So they play along and nothing will be done about Israel's extrajudicial assassinations or it's illegal acquisition of territory or illegal annexation and non-annexation of the Palestinians rightful territories under law, or Israel's blatant lies justifying this latest round of violence (on that, by their own words, you're right)

Israel will demand the Palestinians be forced to bargain away more of their territory in an agreement, because an agreement can circumvent the law. Made to face the law, Israel would A) be sent to the wall, broke for decades. B) erupt in civil war (outside of Israel) as it tries to make hundreds of thousands of illegal settlers leave Palestinian territory and C) under the UN Charter, an Israeli civil war outside of Israel's legal sovereign extent becomes the business of the neighbouring powers, who can legally intervene (as they did on May 15th 1948, when Jewish forces were outside of the newly declared State of Israel), none of the world powers want the Middle east to erupt in another war they will have to become involved in.

The US will maintain the veto vote in the UNSC, protecting Israel from the law, while it continues to batter the Palestinians into submission.

There'll be no Israeli attack on Iran, the threat is a fake carrot on a fake schtick ..... the rest has already begun, just days after Bibi arrived home ... on plan

  • 86 Republicans to Obama: 'You have already waited too long' on Iran
    • They're quite stupid. I hate to say this, but the republicans are morons and the Dems not far behind. Doesn't matter who's in power in the US they're subject to the same lobby groups and offered the same bribes and fed the same bullsh*te lines to say. Ratchet up the fear .... It's bluff along these lines

'If the US maintains the veto vote in the UNSC against Israel's ongoing crimes against the Palestinians and demands the Palestinian negotiate instead of Israel facing the law, Israel will not attack Iran, thereby dragging the US into another war'

But after almost a decade of trying, the US can't even defeat poorly armed insurgents in Afghanistan or Iraq and Israel can't even stop home made rockets from Gaza. So who's pulling whose leg?

There is one way of stopping this insanity. The US has stopped banks trading with Iran in order to get them to forgo their nuclear program, China could demand its banks stop trading with the US in order to force it to stop capitulating to Israel's insane demands.

  • Israel's lobby (updated)
  • 'We are you and you are us,' Netanyahu says-- but Obama thumbs him with talk of Palestinians and diplomacy
    • Unlike his predecessor, Obama seems to know how to be diplomatic and tactful.

Bibi/Israel hasn't a clue, as though diplomacy and tact has been bred out over the last 63 years, replaced with the arrogance and stupidity of believing their own propaganda.

Kinda like 'I'd rather believe my parents stories than face the fact that Santa doesn't exist!' ...... and when the stocking isn't filled ... 'there's always next Xmas'

Guess where this is from ..."whereby its inhabitants will enjoy complete equality before the law, [and whereby] minorities will be assured of all the guarantees recognised in democratic constitutional countries, and [whereby] the holy places will be preserved and the right of access thereto guaranteed."

    • The stupidity of MK Uri Ariel is to be expected. "the entire territory will be annexed"... Meaning it ISN'T now Israeli.

It'll never get past the UNSC. For territory to be legally annexed, there must be a referendum of the legitimate citizens of the territory to be annexed, sans illegal civilians who're citizens of the Occupying Power.

    • You've come to the wrong place to post bullsh*te stevez22

    • Israel attack Iran? Doubtful. Israel can't even stop home made rockets from Gaza. None of its stated objectives were realized in Lebanon. So, what is the game plan? A bluff? The world does not want another war the likes of which might be unleashed by an attack on Iran by Israel.

Israel will demand that in return for not attacking Iran (not that it can effectively), the US will:

      1) maintain the veto vote in the UNSC

      2) turn a blind eye to its illegal activities in Palestine.

      3) demand the US keep pushing for a negotiated settlement with the Palestinians.

Israel must reach a negotiated deal in order to over ride the illegalities Israel has committed thus far. Were Israel made to face the consequences of its illegal activities, compensating the Palestinians would drive it into bankruptcy. One third of what Israel claims as its own, has never been legally annexed to Israel. It's not just in the West bank, East or West Jerusalem . Hundreds of thousands of Israelis live unwittingly outside of Israel's legal boundaries

Even cutting a deal, Israel will still have to legally annex all the territories it has illegally acquired by war since May 15th 1948. At this point a lot of people should begin to realize A) if it needs to be annexed to Israel, it was never Israeli territory in the first place B) a vile swindle has taken place C) it's too late, the international community has allowed the Palestinians to be drawn and quartered.

No matter what the result, Israeli lies and deceit attempting to justify, will continue throughout history.

    • "Jews have legitimate rights in their historic homeland"

Problem: The historic homeland is not the same as the State of Israel accepted by the the Jewish People's Council as the Jewish homeland state (regardless of which country or citizenship we held/hold).

Historic means just that 'historic'. The unreserved acceptance of the territory recommended by UNGA Res 181 (enshrined in the Declaration for the Establishment of the State of Israel) put the right of Israelis to settle in all of Palestine out of reach.

By default, the Independence of Israel legally created two entities. One Israel. The other Palestine (whatever remained of Palestine after Israel was declared independent of Palestine) It is now illegal for Israelis of any kind to settle in Palestine, as Israelis.

      "especially in Jerusalem," Read .... UNSC Resolution 252 (1968) of 21 May 1968 - UNSC Resolution 267 (1969) of 3 July 1969 - UNSC Resolution 271 (1969) of 15 September 1969 - UNSC Resolution 298 (1971) of 25 September 1971 - UNSC Resolution 465 (1980) of 1 March 1980 - UNSC Resolution 476 (1980) of 30 June 1980 .... oh and UNSC Res 497 BTW.

Your rickety Hasbarrow over floweth with nonsense peddled in order to justify a Greater Israel at any cost, even sacrificing the very basic tenets of Judaism. 63 years of lies, deceit and lawlessness has resulted in breeding ignorance and arrogance peddled by the likes of yourself.

None of the arguments you can present will hold water. They're all holey olde Hasbara. Twaddlespiel formulated for the ignorant and those too stupid to check their 'facts'.

The only thing protecting Israel from the consequences of it's illegal activities is the precious US veto vote in the UNSC.

For Texas to be annexed by the US there was first a referendum of the Mexican citizens of Texas, BEFORE any US Act of Congress.

1st) The citizens of the territory to be annexed determine whether they want to be annexed. 2nd) The annexing country then passes an act incorporating that territory.

    • Avi_G.

The US annexed Texas through a referendum amongst the Mexican citizens of Texas. It was one of the annexations that were instrumental in the International Community embracing the notions of self determination and formulating a corner stone of the UN Charter '45, before the partition plan '47, before Israel was Declared '48 and before Israel was admitted to the UN '49, when Israel obliged itself to the Charter in its entirety.

"The acquisition of territory by war is inadmissible" A sovereign may however, 'restore' their own territory by war. Schwebel/Lauterpacht
Israel has never had to 'restore' any sovereign Israeli territory by war. It has 'acquired' Palestinian territory by war.

    • Amazing how many US Americans don't know Texas was legally annexed, via a referendum of the Mexican citizens of Texas.

"The acquisition of territory by war is inadmissible" The notion of self determination was Customary International Law some years before Israel ever existed and; no such referendum has ever been conducted in any of the territories Israel has acquired by war.

"and the answer is: Germany post-WW2"

LOL. Germany was busy taking over other countries, bombing the crap out of England , invading Poland, France, shipping Jews off to be slaughtered. Even sinking US merchant shipping in the Atlantic There is no comparison with Iraq/Saddam pre WW2 ...

Post WW2 The Marshal plan was an investment scheme still paying huge dividends to which of the countries it invaded? England? Poland? France? Who are the recipients outside of Germany?

"We live in an age in which Holocaust ‘remembrance’ and ‘never again’ have become litmus-test mantras, and the idea that liberating a country from their own tyrannical leader is considered a good thing"

Bush Jnr was a candidate. How many grunts died in his idiotic escapades? How much money has been spent? Blair was another. Both ignoring huge demonstrations against the war on Iraq. The different in those demonstrations and the Syrian and Libyan demonstrations is that the latter have been armed uprisings, revolts/civil wars.

Civil wars are within the boundaries and the business only of the states in which they occur. (there was no civil war in Iraq even though there were plenty of civilians who had guns, before Saddam gave out a small arms in 2003) Civil wars are always met at the beginning by the state and rightly so. All states have a responsibility to maintain order for the majority. Just how far the state should go, is a very blurred line and immensely difficult for any Govt facing an armed uprising.

When outside influences interfere in a civil war without a request from the state concerned, they do so A) against the UN Charter and B) usually for their own purposes. NATO Has not interfered in Syria. Syria has no oil

The US always acts to protect US interests, US citizens are used to protect the US's interests. US interests in the Mid East is for strategic position against China and Russia (those who dare win) dictated by the US's need for energy and the smooth flow from the source to the US gas tanks. Energy policy is dictated by the DOE, those policies are carried out by the business sector (oil companies) who in turn express their needs to DOE who formulate policy and the Government policy in policing to protect US interests. A viscous circle.

The PNAC policy for a New American Century was instituted by a Government and WhiteWashHouse infested with PNAC members.

  • Israel's mythological borders: an interview with Rachel Havrelock
    • Hostage

Some pre-exisiting documents are referenced here

Also worth mentioning is the fact that UNSC resolutions and Armistice Agreements on the wars differentiate between Israel and Palestine.

An independent State cannot be in, or part of a non-self governing territory. Israel didn't exist before Israel was declared. It is not, nor has it ever been a part of or in Palestine. Nor was it a part of the Mandate for Palestine which expired before the Israeli declaration of independence came into effect. The area that became Israel was re-named. Palestine was not.

As corpus seperatum was never instituted and not declared or recognized as Israeli, it is still a part of Palestine. UNSC Res 470 "....of the Palestinian territories and other Arab territories occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem...."

No UNSC Resolution or armistice agreement calls for 'peace in Israel'. They do however, whilst at the same time referencing Israel (and the other relevant States) , call for "peace in Palestine". The only other (one instance) is a call for "peace in the Middle East".

    • What a load of olde twaddle. Nothing prior to the Declaration for the Establishment of the State of Israel is actually relevant to the legal status of Israel's recognized borders.

On May 14th 1948 the Jewish People's council drew a line in the sand. Israel was recognized by the International Community before Israel was accepted into the UN, before Israel signed any Armistice Agreements and before Israel ever made any official claim on any of the territory it had acquired by war by the time it signed those armistice agreements. Israel has never legally annexed any territory of the territory it acquired by war. Israel's borders are still those of May 15th 1948.

Seems some folk will drag out any olde BS and waive it around as though it somehow justifies stealing the rightful territory of the Palestinians. It's caused by 63 years of being told and believing the propaganda. Generations of people who have been born into and lived their whole lives on a diet of justifications, know only justifications.

      A map is a prerequisite

      From the North working clockwise..

Iran has territorial waters, exploration and resource rights over a big chunk of the oil and gas rich Caspian Sea.

Iran has huge gas reserves to the East it can sell to India.

South, Iran has territorial rights over almost half the Persian Gulf and the ability to close the Straits of Hormuz.

      West, Iran borders Iraq etc

Iran sits in the centre of a region the US will need to control, as expressed in the New American Century, for its energy needs according to the Department of Energy's 25-50 year predictions.

Department of energy makes recommendations. Govt institutes policies based on recommendations. Oil companies carry those policies out on the ground. Department of Energy bases policy recommendations on the success and needs of those companies to be able to implement Govt energy policies into the future. Govt makes policy. Companies carry out policies and around it goes.

  • Background on Israel as a 'Jewish state' and the ongoing discrimination against Palestinian citizens of Israel
    • A couple of extra notes:

"Recognizing Israel as a Jewish state would mean acquiescing in the permanent second-class status of Palestinian citizens of Israel, who make up about 20% of the population"

This is a misconception. Palestinian citizens of Israel are governed by Israeli Law, not an agreement with the PA/PLO or a newly Independent Palestinian State.

"Recognizing Israel as a Jewish state would mean renouncing at the outset of negotiations the internationally recognized right of Palestinian refugees to return to the land and homes that they were expelled from during Israel’s creation"

Again, not so. RoR is an individual right. Only the individual has the right to decide whether or not to return or accept compensation. The PA/PLO (or a newly Independent Palestinian State) only has the ability to argue on their behalf that RoR be respected.

An agreement taking away that personal choice could set a legal precedent effecting all refugees, whoever they might be.

    • There is actually no legal basis for the demand to be recognized as 'a Jewish State'. No other country has recognized Israel other than by its official name, the "STATE OF ISRAEL"

In fact, there is no legal basis for demanding to be recognized at all. Israel didn't.

"WE APPEAL to the United Nations to assist the Jewish people in the building-up of its State and to receive the State of Israel into the comity of nations"

An 'appeal' is not a demand.

The US says: A Sovereign or non-sovereign state is considered ‘recognized’ when the majority of the International Community of States grants recognition. Recognition of statehood is not mandatory. ” the view of the United States, International Law does not require a state to recognize another state; it is a matter for the judgment of each state whether an entity merits recognition as a state. In reaching this judgment, the United States has traditionally looked for the establishment of certain facts. The United States has also taken into account whether the entity in question has attracted the recognition of the International community of states.”

There are different forms of recognition within the UN and the International Community. Although it is not obligatory for Member states to grant recognition, all states must acknowledge boundaries and acknowledge the right to live in peace within those boundaries. This is reflected in the UNSC resolutions on conflicts between the Arab states and Israel.

UNSC res 242 “…acknowledgment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force;”

Evidence of this can be seen in the UN Member States who do not recognize each other.

One might point out that the State of Israel had not recognized ANYONE before it was recognized an " independent republic within frontiers approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations in its Resolution of November 29, 1947,"

Like the demand for 'defensible borders', the demand for recognition as a Jewish State, is Hasbara nonsense
