If refusing to assimilate into American secular society is a basis for worrying that a community of religious believers are potential terrorists, then shouldn't we be watching out for the Amish?
I wonder when President Carter will get an apology for the abuse that was heaped on him by the non-existent lobby for his daring to use the "A" word in his book?
Maybe he wants his cabinet to reflect the demographic makeup of the US Supreme Court?
I'm sure that's in the works, along with a series of hearings into fundy Christian white supremacist infiltrators in the US military. ;)
Israeli embassy where? Do they have a diplomatic presence in any Arab or predominantly Muslim countries?
Why would Geller balk at endangering Israeli lives, when the Israeli government itself has announced their willingness to accept 500 Israeli civilian casualties in a war with Iran?
So, if Gays get their own nuclear armed state, will they be able to get married in America?
The only people who see a "threat" in the changing demographics of a democracy are those who believe the majority has a right to vote itself special privileges. In a democracy that has a written constitution that guarantees equal rights for all AND political and social institutions that work to make that promise more than just words on paper, demographic changes are just statistics, not a threat.
This article reminded me of a scene from Monty Python's Life Of Brian, in which Jewish Zealots complain about Roman colonialism: link to youtube.com
While you might be right about Shrub's intelligence affecting his policies, I don't believe Obama has that excuse. He's just a good-old-fashioned politician, doing and saying whatever he needs to to stay in power for as long as possible. If we want America's financial industry regulated to benefit the majority instead of the elite, and America's foreign policy to favor just governments over authoritarians, we must strive to make those the more electable positions.
I don't know if you've seen this article from 2005, but I think it makes a good argument that a "Palestinian Gandhi" would have a much tougher time struggling against the Israelis than the original did against the Brits.
