I was exposed to a different CNN when I was visiting Spain a few years back. It was more explicit,detailed,and evn handed in describing the Palestinian situation.It was broadcasting weeklong on gaza/WB issue. I think it was year 2007.On my wayback I met a person from Midwest who said to me that he had noticed a different tone and emphasis on English channel incluing in the contents of CNN. I dont remeber the specifics but I remember my reaction to International CNN that, in US ,CNN would not never broadcast those material .

There are many areas in this world inlcuding in ME/Seast Asia/Russia where one ethnic group is fighting against another. The difference those have to Israel is this
1-In India ,kashmiris have same rights as that of any Indians.
2-In Russia , muslims including caucasian muslims have same right as those of ethnic Russians.
3-There no F 16 flying over the cottage and shack of Western Saharan dropping Phosphorus or firing "rubber bullet" for crossing street or drawing waters from well or for harvesting thier crops or for herding their cattle. They tarvel for higher education or for pilgrimage and when they return they still have those shacks and huts. They have never been put on diet for suporting "freedom"
There is no need to categorize Gleen or other as "leftties' or "rightist". Its always desirable to look at the merits of the nature of the problems and the at the proposed solution without any preconceived leanings or mindset. Gleen does that. -
On a different note, I support Kurdish causes but I wont team up with Israel or USA or any global power. Kurdishtan has been run currently by nepotisitic families having no regard for justice or good governance. One wonders what would have happened if US did not meddle in the nascent democratic babysteps of Syria in 1940s, Iraq in 1960s, Iran in 1956. Kurdistan and its peopel would have achieved thier dream mcuh sooner in a democratic envioroments.

I agree with your last two lines.But this will be determined in the street brawl in the US involving military and civilian. US is heading to an ominous future of relgious fundamentailsim,ethnic tension,moral and economic bankruptcy and loss of competitiveness against the rest of the world in a way that will not allow it to dominate the SE Asia or Latin America or large parts of ME. Israel will suffer from passive neglect of US .US will no longer be able to provide coverage in UN or in financial support . Israel will have to be satisfied with diminishing returns from politically illegal investment on US and will be forced to give upon US .It will look for a healthier host.But that is unlikely to materialize.Jewish middle class will leave Israel.
US will not suffer massively from current meltdown but the US is used to certain way of life and it will not be able or even if , it will not compromise, a situation- which will result in its demise as a hegemon.

If any of you followed news from India lately, you would have been perturbed at the continued prevalence of a wide range of discrimantions and outright hostility against female gender resulting in abortions of female fetuses ,intercaste marriage resulting in "honor killings",public shaming of lower caste female in most abject manner including nude parade and scores of other kind of violences . But India offers a hope to its female population through its judicial and political process and opening of education/employment to female. Religion has little or no influence on the way Governemnt works or makes policies. Despite having centuries old custom of such nature Indian has been able to move to a more egalitarian society. Could it be due the fact that India was no longer occupied or continously tied to the changing whims of another country?
The argument against that is the assertion the British intriduced female education and stopped widow-burning. But that again misses the points that the education before the arrival of British was available to a large section of the population including female through the religious schools whose economic significance dwindled under the onslaught of the British juggernaut . Widow burning was already under decline from the intervention of Mughal kings. This is really an interesting article. It raises more issues and conflicts that it plans to address. I have always wondered why Islamic practices has clung to the concpet of culture and traditions pertaining to "burkha"/child education/female education/women's employemnt and bondage labor or serfdom in Afghanistan,Pakistan,Jordan,Egypt to vayring degree. The prophet of Islam destroyed a lot of local customs sometimes according to the Koranic injunctions and sometimes according to his own ideas of what was good for the community. Why today's Islam fails to emulate his teachings to practice? Taliban was in power in Afghanistan for 4-5 years.In that time it imposed one of the harshest civic laws on the girls and on the women in name of Afghan culture despite it being unsupported by Koran or the practices of the prophet of Islam. These fanatics dont know their own scriptures. In Pakistan one seees rampant corruption and torture on poor disenfranchised community that has nothing to do with the war or poverty ( Somlia was more poor and until now it allowed women privileges and rights not seen in Kuwait/Saudi arab/Pakistan and it was not cruel to its impoversihed starta of the society). Bangladesh is poor than any of these countries but oppression of poor or vulgar display of men's power on women is not it's shortcomings)
