  • Gingrich comment that Palestinians are an 'invented people' enters primary debate
    • Even Jabotinsky referred to them as Palestinians. Excerpt from 'The Iron Wall', 1923:

"They have the precise psychology that we have. They look upon Palestine with the same instinctive love and true fervor that any Aztec looked upon his Mexico or any Sioux upon his prairie. Each people will struggle against colonizers until the last spark of hope that they can avoid the dangers of conquest and colonization is extinguished. The Palestinians will struggle in this way until there is hardly a spark of hope.

We cannot give any compensation for Palestine, neither to the Palestinians nor to other Arabs. Therefore, a voluntary agreement is inconceivable. All colonization, even the most restricted, must continue in defiance of the will of the native population.

LOL. That feed brightens up my day everytime.

  • 44 weeks of pro-Palestinian protest in Adelaide and not a word in print
    • Kudos to you and the rest of the group Margaret! It's of course no surprise that the Limited News is keeping you off their pages, just as it's no surprise that a country where Murdoch owns 70% of the press happens to be home to some of the most insular and poorly informed people on the planet. I hope your efforts go some way to changing that.

The Zionists might have the media on their side, but you have decency, patience and manners on yours. That will be obvious to anyone who bares witness to the hysterics and bully tactics of the pro-occupation crowd who have been harassing you at your demonstrations. When the public see them for what it can only make your job easier.

    • Sometimes I think this country is socially stuck in the 1950's. Then I read things like this!

Props to all the hundreds who stood in solidarity with BDS campaigners, this must have made the lobby here wobble. Good to see at least some people care about something other than AFL and masterchef.

Labor has been carrying the water for Israel for decades so Rudd's grubby little comments are no surprise. And as for the Liberal party and their war on free speech and extension of police power in every state they hold office- well, they're just a bunch of fascists, obviously.

  • This draconian law seeks to delegitimize nonviolent struggle
    • I 100% support the legislation, hope it doesn't get overturned and hope more of the same kind of laws are implemented ASAP.

The sooner Israeli society is exposed for what it is, instead of being of sold to the west for all that it isn't, the better.

  • UN report on ‘Freedom Flotilla I' was questioned from the start

"If you are going to work towards discrediting a UN report based on those participating in drafting it, then would you also cast similar doubt on reports by the UN Human Rights Council who has a plethora of Human Rights abusers as members? I think not."

The UNHRC flotilla report was authored by Desmond de Silva, Karl T. Hudson-Phillips and Mary Shanthi Dairiam. Not one of those people people have a cloud hanging over them, unlike Uribe. Your argument is laughable.

    • "Months of effort by diplomats to find a word between regret and remorse ended in failure yesterday, forcing the head of a UN inquiry panel to shelve a report he intended to issue on the clash last year in which Israeli naval commandos shot dead nine Turkish pro-Palestinian activists.

Sir Geoffrey Palmer, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, was to issue his long-awaited findings yesterday but held off in the hope that Turkey and Israel could come up with a formulation to heal the deep rift."

    • Richard Witty said:
"The legality of the blockade is now contested."

I could steal my neighbour's car and 'contest' that I've done nothing wrong. It means nothing. The only thing that matters is the law and as the UN and a bunch of other bodies and international law specialists have pointed out, it's not on Israel's side with relation to the blockade.

Criminals always 'contest' and 'dispute' they've done anything wrong. It's part of the pathology of the criminal mind. I'd be pretty embarrased to use a report written by a terrorist supporter like Uribe as justification for, well, anything. The Zionists lambasted the UNHRC report because of all the human rights abusers which fill it's seats- are they going to apply this standard to the authors of this report? Dumb question.

Besides, we all know that even if some dink says it's legal to blockade the strip it doesn't relinquish the blockading power's responsibility to make sure aid gets through to the population.

    • Oh dear, Mr Hitchens appears to have reduced himself to a 2-bit hasbarat. Even in his worst articles he can sometimes articulate his own original arguments yet it seems he's lost the ability to even do that now, judging by the litany of copy-paster talking points which polluted my screen upon the clicking of your link.

It's a wonder anybody could consider him worthy of any e-real estate after his post 9-11 meltdown. By assuming the mantle of mindless-defender-of-the-tribe-no-matter-what-the facts he's just reminded us that he's another one of the easily duped who prefers the warm, delusionary glow of belonging to a 'special' club over honesty and ethics.

    • I emailed the ICRC regarding the Israeli claims about the humanitarian situation in Gaza:

      From: XXXXXXX
      To: "hihassan@icrc.org"
      Date: 02.07.2011 23:33
      Subject: Humanitarian situation in Gaza

      Dear Mr Hassan,

I write to you in regard to an article published on the Israeli Defense Force's website on 20 April, 2011. The article is titled "Red Cross official: There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza" and quotes Mathilde Redmatn, allegedly the deputy director of the Red Cross is Gaza, as stating that there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

However, an article on the ICRC's website from 20-05-2011 which interviews Mrs Redmatn (her name is spelled Mathilde De Riedmatten in that particular piece) and is titled "Gaza: no end in sight to hardship and despair" seems to contradict the statement attributed to her on the IDF website. Can you please clarify what the Red Cross's position is on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and whether or not she actually did make the comments attributed to her in the article on the Israel Defence Force website?

      Sincerely,
      XXXX XXXXXX

      Their response:

      Dear Mr XXXXX

Thank you for your message and your interest. The official position of the ICRC is the one you saw in our web interview on the ICRC website. The way Mathielde way quoted on the IDF website does not reflect accurately and fully what she said. Please do consider that the position expressed on our website is the what we consider as more accurate.

Hope this answers your question. In any case do not hesitate to contact me for further details

      Regards

      Hicham

IDF=liars, but no surprise there of course. Obviously it was too much effort for the world's media to contact the red cross and verify the quotes in the IDF piece before regurgitating it.
